Yesterday, I made the mistake of answering the following email, addressed to Big Government editor Mike Flynn, promptly:
Hi Mr. Flynn,
I’m a reporter from the Business Insider working on a short item about the new Big Journalism site launched today. Any chance you’d have Breitbart’s email so I can get in touch with him?
Would appreciate it so much.
Best regards,
Gillian

I spoke with Ms. Reagan for about ten minutes and gave her a long explanation as to why I started Big Journalism. I awoke to something so far off from what I said that I called her back and asked her specifically about the following quote that is a composite of her question, a hodge-podge of my response and flat out lies.
Let me begin with the biggest deception of all: Business Insider is a front for Gawker, the notorious leftist/media snark site. If she had been up front with me, like any sane person I never would have responded. (Go to www.Gawker.com to see why.) But she came to me under false pretenses.
Next, let me point out that when I told her she’d misquoted me, she told me that she had taped the conversation without my knowledge or my consent!
Here’s how it all went down:
Breitbart helped Arianna Huffington launch Huffington Post as “primary developer.” “My sites offer truth and hers offer leftist sin,” he said. “I’m very happy to be in competition with HuffPost, TPM or Politico,” he said. “I honestly don’t read those sites.”
Asked about only putting out right-wing ideas I stated, in essence, “My Big sites are certainly right of center but I am not afraid of other ideas. And I am proud to have been a part of creating the Huffington Post to show that I strongly believe in the marketplace of the ideas.”
I do not recall Politico being brought up, but the absurdity of stating that I don’t read Politico would never fall out of my mouth even if I were drunk. (I wasn’t.) I also read the Huffington Post. I just tend not to agree with the ideas expressed there, although I do love their pictorial spreads of the gals of the French Open! But Ms. Reagan and I didn’t talk about political philosophy or tennis.
In our talk I did use the term “war.” I believe I clarified with a laugh, “a metaphorical war,” but against the “mainstream media.” While Big Journalism is going to take on journalism, reporters and bloggers alike, the war is against pure hackery and media bias.
Her article has both in spades.
If you want to know what Business Insider’s intent on the piece was, check out the photo that they used to accompany it. One has to go through many frames during television appearances to find the perfect one to make the subject look crazy:
Now for the real journalistic “sin” of the article. I would never say the following: “My sites offer truth and hers offer leftist sin.” It isn’t my kind of language, and while Ms. Reagan may think that as a right-winger I’m a fire-breathing Evangelical, I am not. When I read that false construct of a sentence my body went numb.
I called Ms. Reagan up immediately upon reading it and blurted out, “I never said that.” She said, “Never said what?” And I proceeded to tell her the offending quote. She replied, “Yes, you did and I have it recorded.” I said, “Good, let’s play it. I want everyone to hear.” She fumbled around hemming and hawing for about 30-seconds and said the recording device “didn’t connect properly, I guess.”
What was she able to do in that 30-seconds (or less) that I called her on the tape recording? In a later call she said she looked to her bag and picked up the recording device and saw that it had no new information on it. I’m not sure how she was able to detect that in such a short time frame, and I didn’t hear any voice recording being played in the background. But, hey, anything’s possible.
In my first conversation with her upon reading the piece, I told her she needed to issue a big fat retraction. I told her I know how to give an interview and how to handle the issue of Arianna Huffington and the Huffington Post. It then struck me: Wait, she taped me. “You never told me you were taping me,” I said. Since I’ve spent the last four months being lectured by “real” journalists about some alleged hard and fast rules about when someone can and cannot tape-record a conversation, I would think that a reporter in a straight interview would state she was turning on her tape recorder.
“That’s what reporters do,” she said, and that “New York is a one-party consent state.” I’m not sure what the situation is on her taping someone in California without his knowledge, but at this point I found myself wishing that she in fact had taped the call. I’d have evidence that she made stuff up. Weird stuff. And it most certainly reinforces why a site like Big Journalism is necessary.
And now I am made privy to the fact that a the article was republished at Gawker, which is a site to which I no longer give interviews. Gawker is in the business of making people look ridiculous. Most know that and won’t take their calls. But when you get a call from someone from Business Insider, you feel more comfortable to talk because you trust that they’re trying to just get a (business) story out. Well, I most certainly stupidly fell into the Gawker trap.
Ms. Reagan put words in my mouth elsewhere:
He said: “I’m trying to fill a huge market void for original reporting and fact based journalism” for the “silent minority around the world” (that would be the right).
She asked me if Big Journalism was going to report stories no one else would report. I told her that is not Big Journalism’s specific goal, that all the Big sites as a whole (Big Hollywood, Big Journalism, Big Government and pending sites like Big Tolerance, Big Education, Big Jerusalem, Big EU, Big Soros, etc.). The Bigs are ALL set to report what the mainstream media refuses to cover. And we’ve proved that beyond a reasonable doubt.
But, as I also explained, Big Journalism was going to act as a checks and balances against the mainstream media.
She wouldn’t take that for an answer and apparently wanted to be told that Big Journalism is going to be a clearinghouse for stories the mainstream media won’t cover. She tried to put words in my mouth. And I refused to let her. I was very clear.
As to the statement regarding the “silent minority around the world.” Ms. Reagan asked about what audience we were writing for. I said that the media disregards a huge part of the country with its leftist bias, perhaps even the majority (since it’s a center-right nation). But that the expansion of the sites into the EU and the Middle East will show that there are tons of free-market thinking and non-leftists around the world who are not being served.
I think that Gawker is using Business Insider as a front to get interviews with people who long ago stopped taking Gawker calls because Gawker is a hit-job operation. They officially call it a “partnership.” Pretty clever arrangement there, Mr. Denton.
Well, I won’t be taking calls from Business Insider anymore, and I will make sure in the future to research whether other innocuous-sounding journalistic enterprises are being used in the future to smear people they disagree with politically.
As to asking for a retraction, I retracted that request. The news-reading audience is getting pretty savvy in the Internet-Age and I trust that the photo and the accompanying quotes that sound nothing like me will be detected – and the concept that the mainstream media is used as a weapon against those that don’t toe the left/liberal line is yet again reinforced.

Andrew, your service speaks volumes for you. They will try very hard to slam you. We, who are so proud of all you do, will not be in the least affected by such low tactics. But it does point out the level the left will go to obstruct the truth. This is war, and we know the weapons. Thanks Andrew!
So glad another leftist "site" (front) has been exposed!! Love Big Journalism's site for more truth to be told.
I work in a Pediatric ICU………years before reporters would come in to our unit and pretend to be familiar with our very sick patients just to get scoops on stories, etc…………………it is no wonder I think so poorly of many in the MSM!!! I look forward to going to all the BIG sites on a regular basis!!!!!!!!!!
Just went and read her article. She's changed it a bit because of your asking for a retraction. In any case, any place that sets up their quotes like this:
He said: “I’m trying to fill a huge market void for original reporting and fact based journalism” for the “silent minority around the world” (that would be the right).
Isn't held as credible. Who puts a synopsis in parenthesis after a chopped quote?
" A right, another right and then a 'left/liberal line' and she's down….." "DOWN goes Ms. Reagan, Down Ms. Reagan….oh the inhumanity."
"The news-reading audience is getting pretty savvy in the Internet-Age and I trust that the photo and the accompanying quotes that sound nothing like me will be detected – and the concept that the mainstream media is used as a weapon against those that don’t toe the left/liberal line is yet again reinforced."
You're right Andrew. We know who is who by now and the ideology behind that person. If that sneaky Ms. Reagan tried to pull the wool over your eyes, it only shows her unscrupulous methods. Not to worry, it'll all come out in the wash when this country is re-instated as our Founding Fathers intended for it to be. The left is not to be trusted under any circumstances because they all lie. Sad state of affairs that people are so brainwashed to promote a socialst agenda.
Keep up the good work. We are all behind you.
man you have to tape your interviews yourself ..thats what I do ..
They think that they are being smart and clever with these kinds of deceitful tricks, well, after all they are simply following the example set for them by their leaders.
The reality is that they can't stay in the dark. Just wait until America has a look at what the marxists have cooked up under the deception of a so called "health care" piece of legislation.
Sunlight is all we need.
Thank you.
You got Punk'd. Not the first time won't be the last. This shows you are making a difference. Soros and his Ilk will spend millions to get you. Sorry to hear that the IRS will be auditing you this year. But you knew that before you started BG and now BJ. Fight the good fight. You'll win in the end.
Congratulations, Andrew. If you're being smeared by some weaselly, two-faced "journalist" it could only be because of one thing- you're winning! Let's get this party started and bag some more leftist hacks with press badges.
Andrew,
Not to worry, but you just learned a valuable lesson. None of us would believe any stuff they can put out there. Understand…… anyone with a brain and concerns for our liberty do not read the lib garbage, so you won't ever lose your base.
Thanks for your website. Love it!
Watch out. They might try to claim that Ms. Reagan as a Giles or O'Keefe character, worthy of deceiving you to get 'the facts'. These people are slime balls.
Informal, conversational-style writing is appearing more and more frequently. Maybe due to our electronic conversations changing the way we express our thoughts?
Regardless, there is no excuse for the way she conducted herself unless she is resume building for a spot at MSNBC!
However, most assuredly Breitbart and Team will increasingly be considered targets but handle it with their usual aplomb!
Out of curiosity, doesn't this fall under federal wire-tapping laws? Just because she taped the call from New York, doesn't mean she is in the clear. The phone call crossed state lines into California, where recording voice requires two-party consent. Since it crossed state lines, it falls under federal guidelines. It would be as if I mailed medical marijauna from California to Texas. It may be legal in one state, but the person who sent it would still be subject to federal drug statutes. Just saying AB…
Does anyone know if the federal code is one or two-party consent? Wouldn't it be nice if she really did tape that conversation.
You should go to extra normal dot com and recreate the interview.
andrew – you're a big boy and i know not only that you can handle yourself, but that this is really fun for you! the left is just in fits right now as their utopic idea of what would transpire with obama in office is not even close to the reality of what IS happening. i think it's fantastic!
I'm surprised you were so easily punk'd, Andrew. You're going to have to be much more careful from now on. The entire media establishment is after you.
Could your purported quote on about "leftist sin" actually be that you bellieve all the Huffington Post offers is "leftist spin"?
That seems like a good idea to me!
Andrew, tape yourself. And get a 'spy' phone so you can keep track of the phone numbers of those who call you. Trust me, this is war. You are threatening the MSM with this site – so they're going to go at you with sharpened knives. (Witness the one Gillian just sank between your shoulder blades.) You're in a war, honey – and the other side is losing. Which makes them desperate. So you be careful out there, hon.
Scum, nothing else could ever really be expected from them.
perhaps andrew should always record all interviews, then he wouldn't so easily be mis quoted. it would be funny to play back actual words, and compare them to the reported words. and if any interview will not let hem record them, then he should back out of the interview.
Thanks for the warning. The gawker trashed my NY Sun columns and dubbed me its wing nut crazy lady. The only nice thing they ever did was praise my art work. Otherwise total insults. Since writing for Big Hollywood I've made the wing nut list of media matters and Daily Kos.I feel honored.
The ironic (or is it paradoxical?) dilemma that conservatives face is that they are naturally truthful. Hence, Mr. Breitbart's readiness to give an interview to the pseudo-site. The factual dilemma that progressives have is that they are inherently deceptive, and this makes them natural liars. They lie to themselves, to convince themselves of what they believe. The result is this ease in deceit toward everyone they interact with. It isn't natural to instant not trust someone we conservatives meet. People have the initial benefit of the proverbial doubt, so to speak. At the risk of losing our inherent truth, we conservatives will probably fall for more progressive lies every so often: Fool me once. Since we're also inherently more intelligent, there is no fool me twice, seeing as the progressives are the ones playing the part of the fools.
I agree, do no interviews unless the "Journalist" agrees that you can tape your side of it, why would an honest one care?
I visit and post to both of these sites (Breitbart and Business Insider). I hadn't noticed any overall liberal slant there, but that picture of you was clearly chosen for its negative value. Something to keep an eye on. The last thing we need is more things run by secretive liberals.
Gawker appeals to the juvenile and those suffering arrested development, therefore the vast majority of liberals. Kudos for catching them out Andrew, and always rely on your nous – it's served you very well to date.
Just the photo was enough to make clear the intent of the piece, and then the "quotes" sound nothing like your journalistic "voice". It's a little like hearing Reagan "quoted" as saying someone was "all wee-wee'd up".
Some lies are easy to spot.
I suggested there that they form the same kind of sharing agreement with you that they have with Gawker. I don't know if you're even interested… but I decided to try to broker a deal anyway.
Being a Liberal is never having to say your sorry! Your aim is true and the ends justify the means. Oh, there goes another Unicorn…………….
Just adding…. That blogroll is a thing of true beauty. Show 'em how it's done, folks.
Have never heard of Gawker, never heard of this leftist hack, but trust in that your reputation is BIG, Andrew.
Sorry for the left-wing insanity, but what a fun story this will eventually become to share with Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann or Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh (all smeared and vilified by lying leftist cretins) next time you bump into each other at an event, huh? Rites of passage suck when you're going through them (I'm sure James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles would agree), but eventually become colorful "war stories."
Keep up the excellent work!
I'm nauseous of liberal hacks parading as the only "real" intellectuals, journalists, seekers of truth, and the only ones concerned about the well being of fellow humanity. They're all shallow fakes who never got the memo from the 20th century that socialism is a failed economic model.
Conservatives yearly earn 65% more college degrees than liberals… every year, since 1955 when first tracked. Liberals need free stuff from the government because they are too ignorant to get real jobs… or tell the truth.
This is exactly the reason your site will be successful Andrew.
From what I've observed, a vast majority of liberals have difficulty reading anything that isn't peppered with f-words or mispellings. So, the readership of the piece is likely nil.
Many liberal college students, per Sean Hannity's "Man on the Street" interviews, are clueless as to who our VP is, although they all voted for The One. So, they're likely scratching their crotches, muttering, "Andrew WHO?"
ROFL – "Another unicorn…"
Good one!
That would be impossible. Her lies led to no facts. Giles and O'Keefee's lies did lead to facts.
Well, now they have proven they are liars………….and anyone that would want to read a web site that is proven to be liars, are not looking for any truth out there. I think the word is "programmable neanderthals".
As we are honored to read your incredible work.
Andrew – You're an honest class guy that naturally expects the same from others, my bet is there will be a time down the road when this little exercise is going to come in handy. Somebody is going to try that again sometime and the hair on the back of your neck will stand up and you'll remember this situation.
Someone nailed it for me, you need to document every encounter like this, certainly recording these phone calls and above all, stick to the book, make sure they know it and no one gets second one until they agree to it, on tape!
trickydick says GET TAPE!
They're real, you just have to BELIEVE, er or was that HOPE? Oh whatever……
Sue her & her rag— make her admit she didn't illegally tape your conversation.
This is good Andrew because it happened now with a little site like Gawker. You only had your site up less than 24 hours, correct? Now you'll be more wary. Look at the positives here.
Andrew, the right is not a silent minority but a majority as recent polls show so that statement of her propaganda is false.
As for taping…maybe you should start taping your interviews from now on (letting the interviewer know first of course). That way you have protection.
Well this surely is a story the main stream media will not cover.
Who's to say he doesn't? Just like no one knows all the ACORN locations still waiting to be released. Not that that would ever happen… (insert evil laugh here)
If California law require notification, all that is needed is an automatic answering system indicating that calls may be recorded for quality control. By the time anyone gets to the final interviewee, they will probably have forgotten.
Karma is coming for her and her ilk and she knows it. These so-called journalists know their days are numbered so they are reduced to "writing" for hack sites like Gawker…Gawker??? What do they have like 10 dope smoking 30 yr olds living in their mama's basement as subscribers? Don't sweat it and just put it up to experience. As others have so rightfully said, if you're making them resort to this type of tactic they must be running scared. Keep it up!
I'm a purist. If you spoke honestly there is nothing to fear. If answers are taken out of context that is a reflection of lost values of reporting. I have visited gawker and it reflected too much speculation and no substance. Bored me and I moved on. I'm glad we have options. Keep doing what you are doing and the rest will fall into place.
Andrew Breitbart because of your positive passion for our country and for ensuring that the truth gets told and your selfless approach in doing your job you have provided the means for many to be able to determine when others resort to any means possible in vain attempts to promote their selfish agandas.
Just keep doing what you have been doing and it will prove impossible for the neanderthal media to drag you into the primordial ooze with them.
I think I love you
Gawker were out to get themselves a cheap laugh.
More fool them by unwittingly (dumb-wittingly?) providing you with such a good example of why Big Journalism is needed.
Keep fighting the good fight.
She has a Degree and a License that makes her a Professional, she don't need no stupid ethics or talent. Do she!!
your next site can be about gawker, huffpo, and the daily kos. you can call it Big Douchebags.
I do find it ironic that the site-launch she was covering in her story, was designed to expose her.
I don't think she thought this one all the way through.
The left/lib medias punches are growing weaker and weaker. Soon, they will be hiding under the rocks they came from.
Let Gawker try to compete with Media Matters. Add the 2 together, and they may have the readership of icanhazcheesburger.
I too recommend taping all of your interviews yourself.
May I recommend http://www.HillBuzz.com for your blogroll? Gay Hillary supporters who have seen the light with Obama. Great, witty commentary from lefties that I don't actually hate, now.
Any reporter that works with such poor ethics and integrity deserves nothing finer than a lifetime infestation of pimples on her a$$ and vaginal warts. But, hey, that's just my opinion.
Wow. Talk about making your point for you! Sounds like a blessing in disguise.
There was a time when a hand shake and your word meant something solid and showed character. Now words are only a means to get to the desired end. It is a sad day for all of us to lose the integrity of the past and to move into the corruption of the present. Thank goodness you are here to shine a light on the misdeeds of the press.
A reasonable thing to do whenever dealing with the left…
And its going to be the "enforcer" for Obamacare…
Wonderful…
AB,
Well I just left my feelings known in her comment section. For awhile now I've been a reader of BG & BH. All bookmarked and one of my favorite daily reads. I'm not one to comment too much but for some reason this story was my own personal "tipping point". I've felt for a long time how the MSM has such a low regard for their own readers intellect about what's going on. Good for you and please keep up what your doing.
Gawker? Stalker is more like it.
Here’s a tip – record every phone call from here on out. Just state a simple disclaimer at the beginning of every converstation: “Hello Mr(s) X – This call may be recorded for quality purposes.”
If they hang up, you’ve dodged a hit-piece. If they stay on the line, you’ve got a transcript to prove your side of the story. It’s not like digital storage is priced at a premium these days.
Andrew Breitbart the new Sarah Palin?
Douche bag filthy liberals up to their old tricks. Liberals make me believe in evolution because if anyone is descended from monks and chimps those morons are!
Andrew – you should tape record every phone interview. Certainly, ask for consent or give fair warning first – they will change their tune immediately, or drop the interview. They're slimey cowards after all – the shrill minority.
Andrew, I still say that "YOU ARE MY HERO!"
This dishonesty of some people is truly amazing. I could tell you some stories.
Mr. Breitbart you have arrived. They tried to ignore you but your sunlight is too scorching for them. They are witnessing the genesis of an independent internet news empire and feel helpless to do anything about it. You and your contributors are returning the investigate into investigative reporting. “Big” is doing exactly what you intended showing them and us that we surround them. Within the next five years the “Big…” will not only be a household name but synonymous with world class journalism. It is a part of my daily education on current events and soon all of my neighbors. I like to call you the William Randolph Hearst of internet news but I think what you are doing is more unique and well… much “Big”-ger.
HillBuzz is OK for what it is — PUMAs who detest the current Admin, but their track record is somewhat off the rails.
For example, they raved over the integrity of Roland Burris, who would, in their overblown "Chicago-insider" estimation, block the Senate Health Care bill and save America. In the end, Burris traded his vote for ACORN funds:
http://tinyurl.com/ybjc8ym
No thanks.
Well now, that screen shot illustrates the usefulness of Media Matters. Gawker didn't have to sift through hours of FNC footage, they simply called MM, who in their obsessive monitoring of FNC, probably have all footage classified, categorized, sliced, diced and indexed for maximum muck.
Bonus points for the viewing pleasure of rabid leftists: it's from the Glenn Beck show! Heh.
If you're getting flak, it means you're over the target.
I hope you start recording all your interviews for yourself. That would nip this kind of thing in the bud very quickly. They wouldn't even bother trying to pull anything. What a scam!
you crazy right wing foo. they gots to demonize you, your readers and your opinions. that way they don't have to defend what they want.
The irony is delicious. You were punked by an unethical dishonest journalist into talking about your site which exists to combat unethical dishonest journalism. Love it!
(Big Soros? Seriously?)
Just adding…. That blogroll is a thing of true beauty. Show 'em how it's done, folks.
I agree Andrew! If the left doesn't have to follow the rules…why should you? Besides the fact that you are honorable..when dealing with these sites that have one goal…and that is to try to take you down, you have nothing to worry about..we are all here on your side!!
They just can't help themselves… somehow they believe they are attracting more people to their ideology. It's this type of skin deep tactic that a mature observer can see through. I am sure that many young readers of Ms. Reagan & Gawker will someday soon have that eureka moment when they realize this leftist ideology is morally bankrupt and completely devoid of ethics. This is the ideology that criticizes individual responsibility and preaches the ends justify the means. Once you do the math, their credibility also becomes skin deep. Here's to many cuts & bruises to the thin skin of the MSM.
Funny thing about that is, she has already said that she taped it and she has evidence of Andrew saying those things..now if she destroys the evidence she went to all the trouble to get…wouldn't she have to issue an apology to Andrew for #1-Lying #2- Explaining to her readers WHY she lied….hmmm…probably won't happen, but worth the time it took to type this……:)
That's a great idea!!!!
You are absolutely correct. However, the whole attempt to frame Andrew as a 'hypocrite' would be a character assassination strategy, unconcerned with the facts, more interested in how many useful idiots can be convinced by the accusation.
Look at what happened to Jim Baen after he published an SF book by Newt Gengrich. IRS is a weapon.
Classic smear tactics GB is always talking about. Where is the principled left?? Certainly not at "Business Insider", but I'm not sure their readers object.
Exactly, and you probably have more readers on this new site already than they will ever have. Don't waste your time on such small fry. Use your energy on the ones that matter.
Let the children (Gillian Reagan) play in the play-pen. The adults are taking charge now.
Yeah, the over the top raving for Burris really sent up the red flags for me. I like those guys but their political maturity is still a ways off. I would take their support just as you stated, "for what it is". What I am hoping is that they can modify their political views outside of their hatred of the Obamaprompter and become more than just "conservatives of the moment." Their cult worship of Hillary is, to an extent, just as bad as the obamazombies. Clinton's performance, on the world stage as SOS, leaves much to be desired. Especially, on Honduras.
Fair is fair. Let's see a zingy foto of Ms. Reagan. A picture is worth lots and lots of words!
Sorry, that's http://www.HillBuzz.ORG …
Well on the positive, I read Business Insider daily so if not for their mention of your new website, I never would have known to look, thus, they increased your web traffic by at least one.
Oh, I agree, no doubt that HillBuz.org are to be taken with a grain of salt. But if you're gonna have the Huffington Post on your blogroll, well then I'm assuming you want to read EVERYTHING. Sheesh, they're even fans of Sarah Palin over there and published a full and detailed apology to George W. Bush for being mean to him for so long, so they can't be all bad.
http://hillbuzz.org/2009/11/10/thank-you-former-p...
I also like their sense of humor and realize that I need to keep in mind who they are and what they stand for. However, we need all the backup we can get right now to get this administration under control, and their blog speaks to a certain "unreached demographic" that it would pay to have pile on this administration. When Obama's lost the suburban housewife…so what. When he's lost the gay moderates, he's toast.
Politics, especially today's politics of crisis, makes strange bedfellows (no pun intended).
Just think Andrew, when another 1,000 or so "Journalist" misquote you and smear you daily you will be able to call Sarah Palin and tell her you know how it feels! Wear it like a badge of honor!
Andrew:__Keep exposing them for what they are. You sir, are the "Thomas Paine"of our time. Like it or not you are one of the leaders of this new revolution. In this age of insanity we need to get back to the "Rights of Man" and "Common Sense", and the root of our common heritage: The U.S. Constitution.
My post to business insider . com
Ms. Reagan,
Unfortunately for you, Mr. Breitbart has accomplished some things… foreign words in your limited experience in "journalism". Prostitution of the press is not a virtue. Perhaps, when you grow up, Mr. Breitbart may consider giving you an internship. Unfortunately for you and most fortunate for him, you probably won't be considered.
I am so thrilled by all your "BIG's" so far — I've told all my family and friends about this new Big Journalism site. I love it, and am so thankful to be able to read the things that are not reported anywhere else, even at Fox News. Keep going — it is people like you who will help stop the race to the bottom our country has entered.
Business Insider "made it up."
Yeah, right, Breitbart.
The federal agency I was with had a policy that permitted taping if I taped the conversation, too. You could tape all interviews, but most important is not to let it distract you. You are too valuable to have your mind wasted on some trashy slut trying to make a name for herself.
I keep getting confirmation that the lefties just aren't all that bright. What is being described here has long been standard practice for journalists, but nowadays, its just plain stupid–even more so with someone like Andrew Breitbart who reaches a similarly-sized audience. Yet, more to the point, the idiots just spead the persona-non-grata cancer from Gawker to a hitherto unaffected property–Business Insider. Imagine you get an interview request, particularly from a non-entity like "Business Insider". If you have a modicum of sense, you Google it, and what do you find? dozens if not hundreds of links describing the above shenanigans. Geniuses.
New rule of thumb. Place a tape recorder on the table when speaking to "reporters" and start each telephone conversation with a statement that the call is being taped.
They changed "sin" to "slant", with a correction at the bottom. (I could imagine you saying "spin" and she hearing "sin".)
I didn't think the article was bad at all, as lefty reporting on conservatives goes. (Are my expectations that low?)
Keep up the great work.
Sue the bitch!
It might be a good idea to post a list of hit sites for those who don't know which "news" sites can be trusted.
"For quality assurance purposes, this call may be recorded." I hear it all the time (before the Muzak comes on). Do it for all your calls. It's truthful too, since you don't specify WHOSE quality you are attempting to assure. But honestly, I doubt there is a reader at Gawker who would be influenced even by an honest article about you. Don't sweat it boss.
Suggest you get Patterico on the case. We need a reader poll.
You will have to tape every interview you do since the Left belive lying is the way to report their news.
First, thanks for your contribution to a free press in the USA.
Why did you hide her identity?
If there is legal reason not to post it, please post her email, phone number, tweeter link.
If you're really going to have a "Big Soros" site Andrew then boy do I have a TON of information saved on him. I will be more then happy to email it all to someone at your site as soon as you want it.
Unless the other party is using fairly sophisticated recording equipment, it’s relatively easy to tell if you’re being recorded. Just take your own recording device, turn the volume up as far as it will go and then hold the mic portion near the phone mouthpiece. If you hear feedback, someone likely has a device on the line.
Looking at the post, and looking at the site, and looking at the comments…. Seems to be quite the paragon of deep intellectual thought, debate, and reasoned logic.
My advice would be to consider the source, and cut your losses. These fine journalists are not worth the breath for one syllable.
Well, lesson learned. I would employ the same caution in any future dealings with the better known MSM.
I just spent 10 mins looking through their site and I think I can feel my IQ dropping.
I just got off the phone with Ms. Reagan, a call which I taped, and she has admitted that she is, in her own words, "A half-witted, sleazy, unscrupulous, dishonest and untalented journalistic hack who doesn't care about the truth, facts or America and has to resort to lies and distortions to sell a product." And as soon as I find my invisible tape recorder I will prove that those are her own words.
Andrew wrote: “..and I trust that the photo and the accompanying quotes that sound nothing like me will be detected..”
I thought the photo made you look more vicious – like maybe some mafia hitman about to fulfill a contract – than “crazy.” Perhaps some Hollywood producer will see the photo and do a remake of the movie ‘High Sierra’ with you playing the gangster "Mad Dog" Roy Earle part. Bogart would be proud…
Now that's good journalism! Good work JS.
Hey Breitbart. The law:
California law does not allow tape recording of telephone calls unless all parties to the conversation consent (California Penal Code 632), or they are notified of the recording by a distinct "beep tone" warning (CPUC General Order 107-B(II)(A)(5)). However, tape recordings can legally be made if an individual or members of one's family are threatened with kidnapping, extortion, bribery or another felony involving violence. The person receiving the threats can make a tape recording without informing the other party. (California Penal Code 633.5)
This ic currently being shown on the Gawker post:
*UPDATE: We previously published a quote from Breitbart referring to Huffington's sites as "leftist sin." We also wrote that he doesn't read Politico. Breitbart disputes ever saying these things, so we've rephrased it.
I love the way they can just rephrase a "Quote" ! What a scam operation!!
Andrew, I'm not very techno savvy, nor am I any expert on law. But reading your article gave me an idea which may or may not be valid: perhaps you should set up a recorder in your office, or carry one with you, so that you can record yourself without recording the person interviewing you by phone. I'm almost certain that there is no law that says you can't record yourself. Any time you are asked for a phone interview you can repeat the name of the person and publication (which of course won't help much if they lie about both) and make a note of the date and time. At least you will have a record of your own words. Or at the very least if you inform the other person that you are recording your own responses they might think twice about giving a deceptive interview.
Let's see, Mr. Breitbart says one thing, the MSM says another, I wonder how long it will take me to decide who is more likely to be telling the truth?
About a nanosecond.
In other words, slightly longer than it takes for a New Yorker in the car behind you to start honking their horn after the light turns green.
I just visited the site. The quote is now updated to say "leftist spin".
Look at this update:
"*UPDATE: In the original version of this post, we published a quote from Breitbart referring to Huffington's sites as "leftist sin." Breitbart disputes having said this. After reviewing our notes and the context, we believe the accurate quote is "leftist SPIN." We have corrected this. We also said that Breitbart said he does not read Politico. He says he did not say this and that he does read it. We apologize for these errors."
By apologizing for these errors, I guess the reporter went back and <ahem> listened to the recording again <ahem>
I too visit BI regularly and they are actually pretty much down the middle, the Gawker Partnership is apparant in the commenters @ BI….take a look at the response to Ms. reagan's post there….the first dozen or so sound like the typical Gawker lefty tools then the Andy breitbart supporters zom in to take Reagan and Gawk kids to task….it is a tribute to Big Andy B!
Thanks for the tip, Andrew. I will scratch Business Insider and Gawker off my lists of "must reads" … Not they they were ever on my list. Just sayin.
Thats what I figured it had to be. I'd heard Breitbart talking about Leftist spin previously and the idea he was referring to "sin" was implausible. I figured that in this instance anyway, the author either misheard or mistyped. Of course it could have been purposeful as well since the author had no problem making up quotes out of thin air.
I saw you @ BI, good quote!
Hey! Did I call it or what?!?!
But why the intermediate "slant" (which has silently disappeared)? Did they really *not* record it after all?
Um. You think they wouldn't? Ever heard of Rathergate?
This is why conservatives need to record everything. So dim bulbs will learn not to believe everything a leftist tells them.
Absolutely. You'll change the dynamic in a split second. It's imperative.
If Sarah Palin goes into any interview without her own camera and recording equipment, I think Piper should kick her in the shin.
What a great scoop! I can't wait to listen to the invisible tape!
They just played right into Big Journalism's hands, didn't they Mr. Breitbart?
Thank-you for just doing your job. You know….that whole responsible journalism thing.
andrew – get over it – you should have known better – it was YOUR mistake!
am i "savvy"? I always get tired of reporters making stories out of their own careers … stop talking about yourself!
Thanks for all you do, Andrew.
We all know about the Slobbering Media, now, and they are Big Time Losers.
And if I might add to that suggestion, that he should ask for any and all of the interviewers hidden "shared circulation agreements" before any interview can/will be granted.
Please tell me why any legitimate business news would have a partner agreement with Gawker?
What a slimeball. How do these people sleep at night? Imagine how many of these trolls have worn out copies of All the Presidents Men on VHS, and every time they see it, they are seduced by Redfords shiny long hair or Hoffmans cool corduroy blazer. They then find themselves daydreaming of all the sexy adventures they could go on as a journalist. They will do anything to advance their careers. Lie ,steal, cheat. You know what, the Bolshies in 1917 and the Nazi's in 1934 were exactly like these people.
it probably doesn't matter if a federal law was broken in this instance.
The Holder JD will never prosecute leftists for anything from voter fraud/intimidation to wiretapping or anything else they pull against the right to discredit us and keep us from regaining majority.
PLEASE FIND ME via email and I'll call you.
You should have added something like:
… She then admitted that she "doesn't really believe in global warming" and that she "thinks her editor voted for McCain"…
After all, you had her call sent to a relay phone exchange in New York where you recorded it…
Fair is fair. Let's see a zingy foto of Ms. Reagan. A picture is worth lots and lots of words!
Big Soros! Really? Or was that a gag?
more like BigLiars.com
they still believe they're smarter than the "knuckle-draggers" of the world.
Hi Andrew, I'm calling from Brickette, the business edition of the building materials industry. We'd like to know when you quit beating your wife .
And why do you hate Obama so much ??
And why are you so homophobic ???
How much does Israel pay you for these lies !!
Is Dick Cheney your real father ???
What were you doing at Davos with Hal Needham ?
and what is your favorite color ? and what is the capital of assyria ??
hahahaha…. they just don't get it Diane… because they are smarter, doncha know.
Well, you can't blame them for following up on it…
http://www.businessinsider.com/henry-blodget-andr...
Liberals will slink to any low to do stuff like this, because they dont have a common decency or the guts to let other people know what they are doin in the light…bunch of cockroaches.
I am not a lawyer, but I think the taping was illegal under California law. When a call takes place between a single-party consent state and a two-party consent state, the resident of the two-party state can sue in their state court under their laws, as I understand it. Provided the defendant was aware that she was calling a California resident, she should be able to anticipate being haled into a California court.
If you want people to know what your message is, you must control the medium. Never, ever permit an "interview." If somebody wants to know what you think or have said about a subject, refer them to your own writings or recordings. It's a shame, but if you don't want to be misquoted, don't speak to others.
or…. BigBedwettingmommasboys
Someone should tell Andrew to call her on it and file a lawsuit against her for libel and compel the production of the recording. If she's NOT defaming AB, then let the self-starting slut prove it.
[...] in a long post at his site, Andrew Breitbart says he thinks we are just a front for Gawker–a way for Gawker editors to [...]
I will do that Andrew.
Check out the site. Now, they're claiming they did NOT record the conversation, hahaha!
Alicia, as a lowly commenter… I was once intimidated by shouts from the left of calling me names, insulting my intelligence, etc., but I've learned finally thats all they have and have lost the argument. In their paranoia about people with common sense attitudes and normal world views, they rush to immediate condemnation and judgement with labels in an attempt to stifle dissent or different opinions. It is a bullying tactic, ignorant and elementary school cowardice in disguise. Their knee-jerk reactions to lable and demonize you or any of us is due to the lack of a classic liberal education. Most of these people doing the "classifying" of others are trained parrots of academia, without a clue of how to be skeptical of their former professors or today's news pundits.
All the best to you and your work here at Big Journalism. May it expand and enlighten many more readers, hopefully even some of the close-minded.
Off topic, but what happened to Big Environment? Or did I misunderstand that it was coming next?
Hey, this is a GOOD thing! The irony that in the first days of BigJourno, a journalist has already done what it takes to demonstrate the reason for the site! She's the first BJ Poster Girl! (GET IT????)
MC
The left are pure filth. The pic they used is just typical. Kinda how any time lefties talk about Rush they use an old one.
It's hard to fight against those who will stoop at nothing to win and lack any type of morals but we can't give up.
Once again well done Andrew.
God Bless.
Please Amdrew please be careful.
AS you corner these rats they will become violent.
You and your work are indispensable.
I can’t wait to see all of the other BIG sites you mention…especially Big Sorros.
Lets shed some light on that cockroach.
Two suggestions:
1. get certified references before granting an interview to an unknown.
2. tape the interview yourself (with consent of course) as backup for rebuttal.
Disreputable "journalists" ought to be put out of business ASAP. Only denial of access and exposure of malfeasance will succeed in doing so.
Castigating Gawker as "leftist" just shows how pathetically partisan the world-view of a certain kind of modern Americn conservative has become. It's basically nothing more than a media gossip site. The fact that a lot of their items highlight the unending intellectual drivel spouted by the likes of Sarah Palin, Limbaugh etc. just shows that they are able to tell the difference between sh*t and shinola.
You just keep growing. How long before you open your own cable news network? I want to buy your stock.
TO YOUR SUCCESS!
Andrew I have looked on all of your sites and I can not find an email for you to save my life.
This is the reason I keep returning to this website. I can’t believe how many posts I missed since my last visit!
