I welcomed the Daily Caller to the community today with this article:
The launch of the Daily Caller is a necessary step toward creating ideological parity in the all-too-clearly biased mainstream media. It is a good thing that you, Tucker, are admitting that you come to the table with certain ideological baggage, and my new site Big Journalism will be there to watch your back when the well-funded, organized left’s knives come out to try to discredit and attempt to destroy you. Believe me, they will.
In my mind, you are coming to the table as an honest broker, like me and Arianna Huffington. As partisans and ideologues, to one extent or another, we don’t have carte blanche to propagate lies. In fact, our survival and success depend on creating trust with our readership, and ensuring that the mainstream media can’t ignore the stories we break. By being upfront about our political ideals, readers can process the facts through their own ideological prisms and then make up their own minds. This process is how it’s been done for fifteen years online, and it has worked incredibly well. The mainstream media is dying as we are rising, and yet their only explanation for their fate is that Craigslist has stolen their classified advertising.
Over the last fifteen years, the Internet has become the battlefield, where the mostly false notion of “objective” and “bias-neutral” journalism clashes with those of us on the right who believe that media bias is the central issue facing our nation, and even the world.
The fact that the mainstream media’s existence is built on this false premise of objectivity serves as a suicide pact, as their ever-dwindling audience – one viewer, one reader at a time – perceives the obviously subjective “news” they are being served. Our competition in the so-called mainstream media claims that our admitted biases render it impossible for us to report stories truthfully. I couldn’t disagree more.

You have been great Andrew. Thank you. I find that history seems to show the void gets filled. Our country was founded on basic principles and the old MSM had it's place when it could be more bias. It has become painfully obvious that they have become an enemy that is kept way to close. We would be better served if journalist had an extensive backgound in history. I am getting tired if this rerun. Crisis after Crisis, year after year, century after century, it is always been corruption at the highest level of governments. All societies fail when, Gov'ts, Churches, and science collide to create a consensus. We have that now on AGW even after the Climategate emails which are no different the those who preached the earth is flat and the center of the universe.
AGW will prove wrong but we have to push hard to make sure it happens with a treaty less the cliam victory and extort even more money. Carbon trading is happening and it must stop. It make no sense to trade something we do not need. We cannot eat carbon, war carbon, or sleep in a carbon house. Get real.
'mainstream' media is on the decline. yes! absolutely. too damn bad, too. i rather enjoyed being able to read a paper, carry it with me and enjoyed the ruffling sounds it made as i would thumb thu to my favorite sections. i don't believe i've purchased a newspaper in 5 years, with the exception of at an airport here and there.
Tucker usually proves himself a worthy counter to the left, we’ll see.
Breitboy, this is one of the most enjoyable and well-written pieces you’ve published in some time. Just when I start to peg you, you raise the bar. Thanks for all you do, my friend. You are a bright light and I pray for you every day. You are “a man after God’s own heart.”
Odd that the losers self-stroke that their problem is loss of ad revenue. So much for the epic dumb of business schools matching the epic incompetence of J-schools. Ad money is a function of audience, and profit is the net after expense. You guys are going to make it because your ops are based on those 2 realities as well as the realization that your credibility rests on clearly stating your point of view/interpretation. In today's world, the lose cred when they lie about their bias to produce phony propaganda, and they don't grasp that that is their fundamental problem.
Andrew I heartily agree with you on the up front revelation of your political preference but one area that I cannot abide at either end of the political spectrum is the vile comment sections. Huffpo and KOS are two of the most egregious and I hope that you and your fellow travelers do not allow this. I live in Atlanta and the AJC paper has become slanted that we gave up on it. We now take the WSJ and while it is a good paper it is a little too focused on business. DUH!
I think they could become the paper of record with a little more diversity of articles and sections. Keep up the fight.
Andrew Breitbart will bear huge responsibility for the coming conservative tsunami. He has helped to fuel our fire by shedding light on every cockroach in DC
where the mostly false notion of “objective” and “bias-neutral” journalism clashes with those of us on the right who believe that media bias is the central issue facing our nation, and even the world.
Andrew, for those of us in the center…and for any man or woman with a conscience, the central issue facing our nation (and maybe even the world as well), is the fact that we can't self-govern this land of ours based upon a pack of lies.
It is not merely that there is a tilt or lean to the entrenched media (I steadfastly refuse to accept the notion or the undeserved appellation of "mainstream" media, if that is the main stream…I won't drink from it). In point of fact, I am absolutely in favor of having opinions openly shared across a broad spectrum of current events and ideas.
What is most appalling, however, is the notion that the intentional omission of key facts from a news story…is quite justified if it serves the purpose of advancing one singular worldview.
That moral myth shatters the notion that we, the people, get to weigh the facts and decide for ourselves what is right, what is wrong, what is fair and what is evil.
When those charged with being sentries at our political gate abandon their posts and become a flank in the war for hearts and minds, when they sever the line of communications in order to deceive us, when they come to the conclusion that truth is an impediment to delivery of a polemic message, they destroy our ability to come to an appropriate conclusion or action on every single item that touches our lives.
When the Fourth Estate becomes an umpire who rigs the contest before it begins, we all lose.
When the entrenched media chooses to bury key elements, or sit on their hands because the facts they know cut against the grain of the "side" they advance…we all lose.
When the legacy media "lawyers up" the words they choose…parsing words and choosing phrases they know will mislead those who hear and read them, we all lose.
When they distort pictures, stage photos, photoshop pictures, forge documents…in order to gain advantage for those they choose to put the "fix" in for…or against those who they do not favor…we all lose.
It is bad enough that we must suffer through a revisionist history which paints this land of ours as greedy, evil and despicable. But those who have stolen our information stream have created a "revisionist present", where they get to twist, bend and distort the facts to their whim.
When truth becomes a variable to the whims of those who believe they own the facts…no man or woman of conscience could accept the appalling benefits of such a cheap victory. It's a Pyrrhic one at best. No matter where you fall on the topic of any issue, if you need to cheat the truth to garner victory…you have lost, not won.
And, if you don't stand up now to be counted against this assault against our information stream…because you enjoy the benefits of reaping its rotten fruit, you don't deserve to be heard if the shoe is ever on the other foot. Right is right, wrong is wrong, fair is fair. And there is no greater issue before us, if we are to properly self-govern this land of ours.
god, you're a fucking moron, Breitbart

Wow, another "progressive rocket scientist checks in … how much time did you put into that statement?
I'm a little confused about the premise of this site, because Fox is mainstream media too. Is the point to counter leftist media, or is it supposed to be a journalism watchdog in general? If it's the latter, then not including Fox means you're lying. Not that you'd WANT to hold Fox accountable for its "balance" … but if you're watching media bias, you should.
I am so tired of hearing Fox is so biased. How about showing some examples so we can see you point of view? I have see Campbell Brown start a question to a conservative with "You don't really believe that………" God how insulting to the poor idiot who accepted her invitation. I have see the evening news ignore the AGW e-mails for over ten days and a total distortion of the fine people that make up the Tea Party movement. I remember the MSM never sending one f**king reporter to look into Obama's past jobs, school, grades, friends, travels, writings, or anything that might have given us an idea of what was running for POTU. I have heard Anderson Cooper use the term "Teabaging" over and over smirking like a 7 year old. I've seen the weasel Brian Williams bowing to the President. I'll bet this forum could write a thousand things that the Left wing media has failed at. Put up or shut up!
When Leftist pap is what one is most accustomed to hearing to nearly total exclusion of any other point of view, hearing the other side anything else can sound rather biased when, in fact, you may just be hearing reality described for the first time. Given the disdain that so many have for the truth these days, simply hearing someone describe something as it really is can be downright shocking, particularly for those who grew up in a very propaganda-saturated world. The only "public" about the public education system, for example, is the funding. The propaganda that is the "public" education system, at all levels, is absolute.
Show me a paper or network who proves that they hire a balanced mix of ideologies and I'll subscribe/watch. I BET if you anonymously surveyed Fox news reporters, you would find that balance.
DanVerg is right… Although, only he and I know that today is 'Opposite Day'.
Mr. Breitbart:
*YOU*, Matt Drudge, FOX, Rush, Ann Coulter and many others are now the mainstream media in tis country. It's the rest of the Lefties who are out there on the fringe, and all of America knows it too.
I hope the elitist bottom-feeders continue with their name calling and excuse making.
Your brand of cutting edge journalism and news is the one that people now crave.
Please wear your crown with pride!
Well said Andrew!
brietbarts article was great. try to see it through a proper understanding of the flawed theory advanced by journalism in our modern day. this is a fantastic source. i have included the link to the page as well as pasted some of its contents below: __http://www.conservative-resources.com/definition-... (this is a fantastic explanation of bias)__{excerpt}__ "[23] Ultimately, the danger inherent in the current media discourse is that there will be no debate and our souls will be the poorer for it. Since the journalists and politicians of our age admit no bias, ideas are no longer considered on their merits but on their biases. Whereas Lincoln and Douglas dueled as virtuoso wordsmiths with facts as foils, the discourse of our age, which is almost exclusively limited to charges of bias, resembles a pair of chimpanzees flinging feces at one another. __[24] In short, ours is an age that denies the definition of bias. If we were wiser, we would not ask about others, "Is this person biased?" but rather, "Are this person's biases logically and morally justifiable?" Exposed to such criteria, the good biases inevitably triumph over the evil."______
FILLING THE VOID, I looked my glass was empty, now it is overflowing!!! The battle between honesty and deceit is raging, honesty is winning, at least until they outlaw it!!!
another shining example of liberal civility annd tolerance.

When the fourth estate becomes a fifth column, truth is the first casualty in that battle, followed quickly by liberty. The dominate media has failed the public and they are in the process of paying for that violation of the public trust. The progressive rot is everywhere and the stink of socialism is in the air.
The Caller is a welcome addition, not mentioning the disturbing bow tie, and I welcome an addition to the ever increasing lineup of the new media. Who knows; some day we may even get our own TV network!
That's a great point. Exposing someone who has been assaulted by the daily brainwashing of the legacy Liberal media to a balanced viewpoint is every bit as psychologically jarring as takling the red pill in The Matrix. It requires a complete change of mindset and of course it looks foreign, and alien, and frightening. It's never good to realize not only that you've been lied to, but that you bought the lie.
This has to be a very difficult time to be a Liberal.
Andrew,
That word "trust" is vital to your survival. I've been listening to Mr. Limbaugh for many years and it is that "trust" that transfers to the casues he advocates for and the products he chooses to be associated with. What is the biggest way to lose "trust?" Tell a lie. See CNN, ABC, NBC and The New York Times.
