When a story ends the way the MSM doesn’t want to end, it has a simple solution. It largely ignores it.
Recently, Big Journalism’s Mark Klugmann illustrated how the MSM shaped the story concerning the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya to fit a “pre-shaped comic book narrative.”
To be fair, ABC’s Charlie Gibson did, though, air an unbiased report during the early stage of the story.
But most of the MSM coverage leaned more toward that offered by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow who, at the 1:30 mark in this video, accused Senator Jim DeMint (R.SC) of committing treason by opposing the Obama administration’s support of Zelaya. (Watch the entire video at your own risk.)
Then, on January 28, the Los Angeles Times reported, with little fanfare, that Zelaya had gone into exile in the Dominican Republic.
As a new Honduran president took office Wednesday, former leader Manuel Zelaya flew into exile in the Dominican Republic under a deal that ends months of turmoil since his ouster by the military last summer…Zelaya, a wealthy timber man, became a hero to the poor but a pariah to the country’s ultraconservative elite when he shifted to the left once in office. He appears to have little chance of making a political comeback in Honduras.
So, according to the LA Times, the mean “ultraconservatives” ganged up on the “hero to the poor.”
The New York Times kept the pro-Zelaya storyline going in its reporting of his departure from Honduras.
Human rights groups documented serious abuses, including deaths, as security forces cracked down on pro-Zelaya protesters and media outlets in the weeks following the coup.
But even the Times had to admit that:
Business leaders and political foes from Zelaya’s own party accused him of violating the constitution to stay in power, mimicking moves by Venezuela’s leftist President Hugo Chavez.
Oh, but wait, those were just accusations of him violating the Honduran constitution.
Note how this Reuters video on Zelaya’s departure from Honduras and formal reception in the Dominican Republic, as though he is still a head of state, declares that the “political chaos” began with Zelaya’s ouster as President — not with his attempt to usurp his country’s constitution and extend his presidential powers. Wasn’t his fault, according to Reuters:
The Honduran constitutional crisis did not end well for the Obama administration, the U.S. Department of State, or the MSM. But then, the limited end-game coverage from the MSM leaves many who rely on it as their primary source of news ignorant that the crisis has even ended at all.

Let's list the Crisis for the MSM.
The ones that aren't going well, the ones they choose to ignore:
Honduras
Iran
Venezuela
I just can't wait for them to end the Hatian crisis.
A big blow to the MSM, Chavez, and the Dear Leader Obama. No wonder the MSM didn't cover the story. Typical MSM moves. Dollars to donuts that when Mr. O'keefe gets exonerated from the Landreu kerfluffle, there will be more silence.
Cheers to Micheletti for sticking to his Constitution, in the face of all the nonsense from the left. He didn't become the dictator all the talking heads said he would. The coverage of this story was ridiculous.
.
For those who had any doubts about Obama or the MSM — Honduras was the canary in the coal mine for them.
I go to Central America all the time. For Obama to take the side of the Chavez-wannabee and deliberately try to squash the Constitutional Republic of Honduras, an ally in the Western Hemisphere following their own law, it is a legitimate question to ask:
How does Obama really feel about our own Constitution? There is evidence he has great contempt for it.
Honduras gave Obama the finger and hung on — if they can do it, can we can! I'm so proud of them!
.
.
It's almost comical to watch the MSM and Rachel Madcow jump for joy at the opportunity to make conservatives and Republicans look bad, then suddenly fall quiet when the truth and the facts come out that are completely contrary to their leftist agenda.
i'm just glad that the honduran people weren't bullied by the u.s. into taking that leftist dictaor back, and into power again. the story did have a good ending, i just hope we will have a good ending to the obama administration.
This is an area where rampant, unchecked leftism…leaves it's slip showing beneath the dress of "media objectivity".
The brutality, tyranny and mass murder of leftists…is buried and romanticized by the entrenched leftist media. No matter where, no matter how brutal, no matter how tyrannical, no matter how totalitarian the regime.
Durantyfication of Castro, Che, Mao, …the wholesale slaughter of Cambodians, …virtually any dictator with a leftist bent posing as a Revolutionary…gets the Hollywood makeup artist treatment and camouflage is not just wearing apparel, but also a conspiracy with our entrenched media providing the face paint.
If ever there was a piece of evidence that the phony mantel of objectivity was a canard…it unveils itself here. The propagandizing is bad enough within our shores, but the global application is where the lie should be put to rest.
Rachel , we already know you suffer from MADCOW diesease. Why dont you fly on a one way ticket to CARACAS and spread your form of MADCOW diesease to Chavez?
Exactly right John… read a chilling analysis of legal precedent being set by the underwear bomber arrest from Ace of Spades:
Obama Administration to Terrorists: You Used to Have, Hypothetically, the Right to Remain Silent

Though Odumbo has his commie supporters, I would be happy to see him go, and wouldn't care especially how. There is no room in this government for a moron punk chicago thug. Soon the nation will unroot this version of nightshade and cast him on to the compost of humanity pile. Hopefully.
Don't forget climategate…..total silence.
I’m so proud of the Honduran people for standing firm for their constitution. It was inspiring to see them stand up to the pressure Obama put on them and follow what they knew was right.
Ridiculous, but VERY telling. A year ago, who would have thought that there would ever come a time when the POTUS and all his minions would stand on the side of rogue dictators and against those fighting for their democracy.
I had to watch the whole video to see if there would be any reason to promote Maddow to drooling moron–nope. If these people get any stupider, we won't have to worry about removing them from positions of authority, power, etc.–their autonomic functions will quit. 'Too stupid to live, in effect. Uh, mah, Gawd!
wow.. just watched one of the linked videos… I didn't realize Rachel Maddow was such a dumb ass…
Obviously lost the ability to use her brain for coherent thought…
Talk about being on the wrong side of an issue….
Obama WILL try to usurp our constitution and is giving it a try. When he fails he and his enablers on the left should be tried for treason and a McCarthy era purging should take place. It would cause "healing"
The only good rich, according to the MSM, are themselves. The rest of us need their advice so we don't spend our money on things they disdain.
let me add.
. I would think anyone with a High school education that actually took any time to read relevant parts of the Honduran Constitution would figure out the actions taken by the Honduran Supreme court / their Congress and the military were all actions called for in the Honduran constitution.
Her displayed ignorance on the subject shows her reporting is agenda driven, not a search for factual truth.
Keep in mind that people like Rachel Maddow are just 'news readers.' Somebody is deciding what they are going to read. Who is deciding, and how?
Damn those pesky Constitutions!
Always thwarting the liberal intelligencia who "know better".
That's where the term "living document" comes from…
…a plyable document liberals/progressive/socialists/Democrats can ignore.
I am quite convinced that Obama & friends view our constitution with no little degree of antipathy, and are doing everything they can to subvert it.
TommyD I have read the Honduran Constitution. It is available at http://www.hondurasnews.com/in both English and spanish. I know this commentary was about MSM, but Obama and Clinton supposedly graduated from more than High School. Don’t they have law degrees? How come THEY couldn’t read it?
As for MSM, I had no understanding of just how biased they were until this drama came along. I should have know it after Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric tried belittle Sarah, but Zelaya has brought all the whining lefties out of the bushes.
I agree with the comment that Obama didn’t respect Honduras’ constitution, shows what he thinks of ours. Who ever heard of punishing the Supreme court of a sovereign country when you don’t like their decision? That is so appalling!@
He surely liked sound of the ‘President for Life’ idea.
God Bless Roberto Micheletti

I don't expect my 7 year old to admit it when he's wrong either.
Oh them two?
Well I really gave up any attempt to make sense out of their agenda. I have no earthly idea how a person with the supposed education our POTUS possesses could come out with the position that he did in relation to Honduras.
It is really beyond my imagination how he could get the big picture so wrong,,,, that is unless it was purposeful.
I have posted previously at PJM extensively on this subject so I will not get into details here, other than to say the obvious is that people like Maddow and Obama are agenda driven, facts are simply something for them to manipulate or change to support their overriding agenda when and if they are able to.
Their true calling would be a position akin to the old Soviet style KGB Political officer..
. Pure propagandist.
I believe Roberto Micheletti will someday be acknowledged as a true Honduran hero.
That is Zero-bama
It's apparent that even if she were intelligent enough to read she still lacks the capacity to understand. The Constitution of Hounduras has been upheld and that is what the citizens voted for. Maddow one more time announces her arrogance and stupidity to the world of the Progressives, which is a very small group of deluded elitist people. Thank God.
Just waiting in line on their knees for their chance to brew some more black tea. Mmm, mmm, mmm!
I think the U.S. even cut aid to Honduras unless they put Zelaya back in office, which means Micheletti should get even more credit for giving the U.S. Adminsitration the middle finger. When Obama was backing Zelaya, I just could not believe the MSM was saying Obama was in the right. This was one of the many clues showing Obamao's Socialist hand.
The Dems are sneaky, two-faced little bastards, aren’t they?
All through the 80’s, these pussies in congress hounded and demonized President Reagan, the US Military, CIA, etc., for the USA’s Central American policy. Remember the support and comfort these bastards gave to the Sandinistas?
A little anti-revisionist history here:
Back in the 80’s the democrats lacked the will (balls) to do anything about the communist takeovers going on just a few hundred miles from our southern border. Cuba, with all its aid from the USSR, was funding and supplying insurrections and wars all over Central America. If they had succeeded, there is little doubt that today there would still be a Soviet Union, a stronger Cuba and, very possibly, a communist Mexico. Hell, it being twenty-some-odd years on now, all of South America might very well have gone red.
Reagan fully recognized the threat and aimed to stop it. But no. The democrat-controlled congress, lacking anything else with which to beat the very popular Reagan, found in his fierce resistance to communist expansion in our backyard, a cudgel with which to beat on him. They actually advocated not getting involved at all, it being the “will of the people” of these countries to be ruled by communist dictatorships. This was also, of course, the narrative promulgated by their allies in the media: Contras baaaaad; Commies goooood. Notwithstanding the fact that much of the Sandinista movement – and regional anti-Americanism in general – was a result of America’s past support for the Somoza regime in Nicaragua, why would ANYONE choose to ignore such a threat?
Like I said – pussies.
Long(er) story short, after the USSR collapsed and could no longer afford to support Cuba (which was paying for and supplying the wars and insurrections in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala – and trying the same in Grenada), the people in those countries couldn’t embrace Democracy fast enough. The bastards folded like a bad poker hand; out with the “very popular” mini-Che, Daniel Ortega (who’s now back and no doubt very inspired by our Current Occupant), in with the US-loving Violetta Chamorra.
But of course, our dictator-loving democrat-controlled Congress could not resist repaying Reagan for standing up for Democracy and driving the snakes from our southern neighbors.
That’s what Iran-Contra was all about, folks; payback for Reagan making fools of his “loyal” opposition. Payback for showing them for the dictator-coddling peace fairies they truly are.
Of course, once it was clear that the USSR was gone for good, and that Cuba really was a paper tiger sustained only by its Soviet largesse, and that the “revolutionaries” in Central America were not so communist once the Cuban bank ran dry, the democrats (most of those who survived in office, anyway) were like, “hey – us and Reagan…we sure did a great job beating back the commies, huh?”
And then, just as now, the media all of a sudden were not so interested in the plight of our poor, exploited (by US “imperialism”) neighbors to the south.
Do they have room in the Dominican Republic for another Constitutional violator next door to Zelaya…?
Thank you Andrew Breitbart. Big J is the best of the all the BIG sites to date. I know you are working hard and I hope you can keep all this going.
Gah!! Does it really bother anyone else that Maddow gets to just sit on her show and lie outright about another country's constitutional procedure that saved them from Chavez No. 2 ruining their country? Military coup? What–is she just making it up as she goes because it sounds believable and helps her worldview? It just shows how many things she believes to be true simply from reading the left-wing blogs preparing for her show. The handling of this story–as much as any other in the news of late, if not more–illustrates the blatant lies that get reported as fact every single day in the MSM.
Rumors that Rahm Emanuel trying to reserve a whole floor in the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa. Beds are still warm. Need new leftists.
i'm just glad that the honduran people weren't bullied by the u.s. into taking that leftist dictaor back, and into power again. the story did have a good ending, i just hope we will have a good ending to the obama administration.
Well of course the libtards are sad about this. Now they can't kiss the feet of another South American socialist.
Right on!
Her first fault is that she built a straw man by saying that it was a coo. It was not a coo because they have a constitution that disallows what Zeleya was doing. So her points and premises are void. Listen no further.
"These decadent bastards are going down." A. Breitbart, a True Patriot
Ok my tirade is over, I kept it behind closed doors during the video, I realize it elevated my blood pressure and shortened my life on earth (Not the eternal part of it)!!! Double standards seem to be the norm now a'days, unbelievable!!!!! Maddow and experts are truly IDIOTS!!!!!!!! Even they had to end it with laughter!! Freedom to Honduras's people!!!!!
"Rachel Maddow gets to sit on her show and lie outright"- Well, why not. When the leaders of this country send us all to that alternate universe called Obamaland, NOTHING Is exempt from the Twilight Zone of reporting. You can trust nothing they and their media minions say anymore. If they are not viciously trashing good , decent human beings for calling them on their s**t, they are doublespeaking all day long. They think they can confuse us with this utterly venal posing.
The Hondurans that I know (I am a missionary in the Central Americas) are glad that their constitutional process was upheld and the results are that a criminal who tried to usurp their constitution was tossed out. In hindsight, perhaps the Supreme Court shouldn't have arrested him in the middle of the night, but in the broad daylight for all to see.
Funny how the "coup" didn't supersede the military command, the Supreme Court and the news papers continued to debate the issue without any censure. Some "coup". Zelaya tried to test the waters and the population by positing a "lets see if they would like to vote about extending the term for a president". He didn't actually try to extend his term outright, but he tried to use his populist movement to thwart the intent of the Constitution which clearly states that no one can change the provision on term limits, ever, for no reason, ever. So the Supreme Court acted judicially and completely within the scope of the law, its spirit and letter.
So it is not strange that Obama was put off by the Honduran peoples who overwhelmingly wanted the law upheld, seeing he believes our constitution is a "living and breathing" document. Obama stands against the will of the people in the US so think it not a strange thing beloved that he stands against democracy anywhere in the world.
I am not sure if her writers are uneducated or just heavy handed propagandists. Maybe their viewers can only digest the most simplistic stereotypes regarding Latin America.
I have one thing to say to the leftist stooges in the media regarding Honduras. "El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido". The people united will never be defeated.
Tick Tock Chavez. Enjoy the orgies while they last, you are on thin ice. Viva Honduras. Viva Michelletti!!!!
Uribe is my hero. Colombia hates the left because after 40 years of terror they have no illusions about who the leftists really are. Aqui en EEUA los surdos de caviar quieren socialismo por nosotros y crony-capitalismo por ellos.
THERE WAS NO HONDURAN CRISIS!
The only crisis was one that the Obama administration, the UN and the media created. The Honduran Supreme Court and the Honduran PEOPLE handled their own business. They got rid of a would-be Marxist dictator, and in short order. And they didn't bend over for the U.S. or anyone else. Personally, I'd like to shake the hand of every citizen in that country.
The Honduran government upheld it's own Constitution. Which is more than I can say for ours.
Satan himself has a seat on their counsel, smile at him Maddow, he is the King of deceit, of which you apparently believe, along with your experts!!!!
Bien dicho amigo!!
(Well said, friend)
The press relentlessly pushed Obama upon the U.S. voters, now they are starting to complain about him. They brought him on themselves.
Very well said! This is the core of it all, right here.
Obama's steadfast support of Zalaya is one of the WORST things this administration has done — and that's saying something.
We should be asking why — when he can't decide on anything — is Obama standing behind a Marxist???
I understand that the MSM wants a nice fairytale, but what was the motivation for the Obama administration siding with Zelaya (initially)? Wouldn't the default action be to side against Zelaya/Chavez?
Enlighten me please.
