Once upon a time former Governor, Presidential candidate, and Chairman of the Democrat National Committee called the GOP the “White Party.” CNN commentator Lou Dobbs took Dean to task for his language.
So was Dr. Dean, and those among the Left who share his understanding of history, accurate? Is the GOP the party of white people? Let’s test the good doctor’s diagnosis.
Fifteen questions follow. The correct answers are provided at the end. No peeking!

Question #1. During whose administration did the signature of an African-American first appear on U.S. currency? During that of a Republican or a Democrat President?
Question #2. Was the first African-American diplomat appointed by a Republican or a Democrat President?
Question #3. Was the first African-American popularly elected U.S. Senator a Republican or a Democrat?
Question #4. During the late 1950’s, William Monroe “Willie” Rainach, Sr., a Louisiana state legislator, led the “Massive Resistance” to desegregation in his state. Was Willie a Republican, or a Democrat?
Question #5. In 1957, nine African-American students attempted to enroll in Little Rock’s Central High School. When they were barred entry by Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus, the President of the United States ordered federal troops to the school to assure their access to an education. Was Faubus a Republican, or a Democrat? Was that President a Republican or a Democrat?

Question #6. In September 1962, U.S. Air Force veteran James H. Meredith enrolled as the first African-American student at the University of Mississippi. Governor Ross Barnett strongly opposed his entry into the school. Was Barnett a Democrat or a Republican?
Question #7. In 1965, the nation’s eyes were focused on the Selma Voting Rights Movement and three Selma-to-Montgomery marches. Marchers were opposed by the White Citizens’ Council and the Ku Klux Klan. On “Bloody Sunday,” March 7, 1965, about 600 civil rights marchers left Selma and walked east. At the Edmund Pettus Bridge they were confronted and attacked by state troopers and sheriff’s deputies. During this time, Theophilus Eugene “Bull” Connor, Alabama Public Safety Commissioner, became infamous for his brutal tactics against Civil Rights activists. Was “Bull” a Republican or a Democrat?

Question #8. A sitting U.S. Senator once held the position of Exalted Cyclops in the Klu Klux Klan. Although he never served in the Armed Forces, he once wrote, “I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side.” Of which party is he a member? Republican or Democrat?

Question #14. When was the race barrier broken with regard to the position of Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces? During a Republican or Democrat President’s administration?
Question #15. When the first African-American member of the U.S. Armed Forces engaged in action for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, was the President at the time a Democrat or a Republican?

The answers follow. Grade your own papers..
Answer #1. In 1881, Republican President James A. Garfield appointed Blanche Bruce as Register of the Treasurer, making him the first African-American whose signature appeared on U.S. paper currency. In 1880, at the Republican National Convention in Chicago, when he received 8 votes for nomination as the party’s vice presidential candidate, Bruce became the first African-American to win any votes at a major party’s nominating convention.
Answer #2. In 1869, Republican President U.S. Grant appointed Ebenezer D. Bassett (1833–1908) as the first African- American ambassador representing the United States. He was Ambassador to Haiti.
Answer #3. In 1966, Edward Brooke was the first African-American elected by popular vote to the U.S. Senate. He was a Republican Senator from Massachusetts.
Answer #4. “Willie” Rainach was a Democrat.
Answer #5. Orval Faubus was a Democrat. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a Republican.
Answer #6. Ross Barnett was a Democrat.

Answer #7. “Bull” Connor was a Democrat.
Answer #8. Robert Byrd, Democrat Senator from West Virginia, is the longest serving Senator in U.S. history. Once upon a time he wore the white sheet and hood, but has since repented.
Answer #9. 82% of the Republican Senators voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, while 69% of the Democrat Senators voted “Yes.”
Answer #10. Patricia Roberts Harris, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and then Secretary of Education, was appointed to Democrat President Carter’s Cabinet.
Answer #11. Just 1 of the 21 persons Carter chose for his Cabinet, Patricia Harris, was an African-American, or 4.7% of his appointees. Of the 33 persons appointed by Bush to his Cabinet, 4 were African-Americans, or 12.1%. Bush’s cabinet also included several other persons of color.
Answer #12. Democrat Lawrence Douglas Wilder was the first African-American popularly elected as governor of a U.S. state. Wilder served as the 66th Governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1994. (Fair is fair.)
Answer #13. During the Republican administration of George W. Bush, Colin Powell became the first African-American Secretary of State. He was followed by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, also appointed by Bush, who was the first female African-American Secretary of State.
Answer #14. Republican President George H. W. Bush appointed General Colin Powell as Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1991. Earlier, Republican President Ronald Reagan appointed Powell as his National Security Advisor.
Answer #15. Sergeant William Harvey Carney (1840-1908) of the 54th Massachusetts Colored Infantry received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Civil War Battle of Fort Wagner on July 18, 1863. The action of the 54th that day was depicted in the movie Glory. The citation for his medal read,
When the color sergeant was shot down, this soldier grasped the flag, led the way to the parapet, and planted the colors thereon. When the troops fell back he brought off the flag, under a fierce fire in which he was twice severely wounded.
The President was a Republican named Abraham Lincoln.

Let’s hope Dr. Dean was a better physician than he is an historian. As well as those who think like him.

The theme I witness is blatant – conservatives want to raise people up, dems want to hold them down. Not too difficult to see and figure out here, some things just don't change.
The frothing Dr. Dean is the one I recall. His rhetorical outbursts are nothing more than pathetic BS.
Ohhh Ohhh Ohhh. Pick me. I know the answer Mr. Ross. I know the answer!!!! Will this be on the final?
Of course I know the answer, because before, during, and AFTER college (thank you CSUN), I kept reading and I didn't just read the Los Angeles Times.
How could the Republicans allow such lies about themselves? If you're not willing to stand up and tell the truth, you're enabling the lie and allowing the bully Democrats to keep millions under their thumbs. Grab some guts Republicans. And grab more conservative candidates and you'll have this turned around in a decade.
What is the party that gives incentives to the folks to work work less so they don't lose their food-stamps benefits?
It's too bad that this lie has been sucessfully perpetrated for so long now that it is accepted as fact by the great majority of the black population and others. Too bad that these questions are not standard material used in our schools during black history month. The republican party would be wise to promote their role in the history of promoting racial equally.
The dems never read farther than "Give a man a fish…"
And we know there are African Americans, too few, who know the answers to the questions above. But, the last election showed there are far too many under the control of the democratic party. The way out is to embrace the Conservative Principles espoused in the Constitution and initiated by the Declaration. That leads to the Republican Party and Abraham Lincoln.

The dems used to be for the working person,
now they are for the person not working.
Martin Luther King Jr., Republican, Harriet Tubman , Republican, Sojourner Truth, Republican, for more go here:http://www.nbra.info/index.cfm?fuseaction=pages.b... The tide turned in the 1960's.
God Bless America
Dean has shown himself to be a raving lunatic time and time again. And they beat up on Glenn Beck.
Be of good cheer, Nolo. As the Tea Parties, and recent elections, and the O'Keefe-Giles events show, the conservatives have pretty run out of cheeks to turn, and have started actively defending truth.
Thus the calls for civility — by the most smart-alecky man to hold the oval office in my lifetime — are rightly dismissed as obvious hypocrisy.
We are now standing up to the bullies.
They'd better get used to it.
Why are some of these quesions part of Black History Month? Also, I blame the Republicans for allow the lie to go on and not standing up and stating these facts on t.v., hopefully Fox News though since now one watches MSNBC or CNN.
Sorry I meant to say Why aren't some of these questions….
Progressivism and Liberalism are the smiley face on the bloody history of communism. All they can do is alter the message to fit the latest trend but, in the end, they just can't cover the blood-stained past.
There are a lack of comments from the Dems here, I wonder why…..It's so painfully obvious. This Nov. will not be a wake up call….they have already gotton that, several times, its by by time…..Can't wait !!! Don't forget, Lincoln was the first Republican President and freed the slaves, the Confederacy were the Dems.
Come on Barb, you know that they are not interested in the facts. They facts would only get in the way of the agenda.
And then there's…
- Margaret Sanger, Hero of the Left and White Supremacist who's eugenics philosophy inspired Hitler.
- Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman were co-founders of the Republican Party.
- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Republican Christian Pastor
- Lyndon Baines Johnson, Hero of the Left, Democrat, had notorious contempt for Blacks once saying “I’ll have those n—-rs voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”, and "These n-gros, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they’ve never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness".
- Jimmy Carter, Democrat, notorious antisemite.
This is true, they should use these facts to show that it is not a racist party. The mentality of the GOP is so different than the Dims though. I think the GOP is so color blind it doesn't even think to consider going down that road to defend itself. Our thought processes are so different. What would be really awesome is and ad campaign by Conservative African Americans extolling these truths. In defense of their choice to be conservative, hitting head on those calling them Uncle Tom's, cause Lord knows they are brutalized for their choice to be a conservative.
You do know you can edit your words? At least until someone comments on your statement.
I've never understood how the dems can't consider themselves to be racist. When you go around dictating that blacks deserve this, and mexicans deserve that, or that people of irish decent deserve this; how does that solve the problem? When you continue to divide people into groups based on their race then racisim will continue to be a problem.
I have always said the Republicans are a weak-kneed group that whenever race is even brought up, they cower in a corner like a dog who is expecting the whip. It's time to start fighting back against the slanderous accusations that Dems throw around like confetti. I am not racist by any means, so if some punk tries to pigeonhole me as one because of my party, I can just remind him, "Who was the original party of the KKK? Oh, that's right, the Democrats."
You forget the question: Was Martin Luther King Republican or Democrat? Republican of course, as were most black voters.
Don't forget Republican Jackie Robinson, who worked on Nixon's and (Nelson) Rockefeller's campaigns.
Typical Dean regurgitation! NOBODY wants to hear (not even Dems), or even cares what Dean has to say about anything.
I just hope he's not still practicing medicine!!!
Carney didn't actually receive the Medal of Honor until May 23, 1900, when William McKinley (also a Republican) was POTUS
Democrat-sponsored welfare pretty much devastated the black family because it paid more when the father was absent from the home, thus providing an incentive to live apart. African-Americans still haven't recovered from this travesty foisted upon them.
The people most affected by slavery continue to support those who enslave them on the Democrat Plantation.
Bingo!
Obamunism is the new racism.
So true, but it seems like more and more are speaking out. Lorben, I don't know about you, but I'm excited about the coming elections. I feel a tidal wave building, maybe just wishful thinking. I believe in divine intervention, there are times in our history that can't be easily explained otherwise. I know that brings guffaws from the progressives, but let them enjoy their moment, because I think it's about their hibernation time.
Unfortunately, the progressives beat us to the public school system. They have control of the children and can teach them anything they want. And the blind public lets it happen. They have been rewriting history for 100 years now – it's all going according to plan – give them a child in their formative years and they are theirs forever.
My kids were all privately schooled. They learned real history. While on one of our 8th grade D.C. trips, the guides who were going to take us into the Supreme Court were killing time, waiting for permission to enter. They conducted a history quiz on the steps of the Supreme Court. After about 5-6 questions, one guide turned to the adults who were accompanying the group and said, "Wow, I haven't had any group that was able to answer all the questions correctly since last year – and it was the same school!"
If you look behind Dean, you'll find Soros crouching behind him with his arm up his holebama.
A question I often ask. They allow themselves to be defined by the opposition constantly, rather than defining themselves and messaging the core principles. Although McCain isn't the poster boy for the platform, I will never forget his inability to communicate his own platform during the campaign. I can't remember what his subject was but I vividly remember him trailing off with a 'well I don't need to explain, *you* understand…'
That worked as well for him as it has for the Republican party.
I think more conservatives are speaking out too and I am loving how GB is giving Conservative blacks a format to speak out. We are learning about the lefts tactics that are foreign to our nature, but when push comes to shove, we will use them too.
I am also feeling really good about the upcoming elections, I feel like God has not moved His hand out of our country, where as a few months earlier I was wondering. I think the turning point for me was the rulings of the SCOTUS on McCain Feingold and Scott Brown winning the peoples seat. I believe those were miracles and glimpses of hope from God, let the regressives guffaw!
I believe they will be driven underground very soon, we are starting to see hints of that now. This one thing I know, is the movement will not die, it is the perfect system of government to usher in the evil one and the final days.
And we wonder where this country went wrong? I am not Dem or Repub but I sure know where I stand when it comes to the lesser of two evils….sheeps being lead by wolves!
Was George Wallace, the notorious Alabama governor and enemy of the civil rights movement, a Republican?
Of course he was. This was the answer provided me by a person for whom I have a high regard and who also happens to be a democrat and a fiery liberal. I mean, no Democrat could have supported segregation because the party is always in the right.
Facts be damned.

How the Civil Rights Act was passed:
After 54 days of Democrat filibuster, Senators Everett Dirksen (R-IL), Thomas Kuchel (R-CA), Hubert Humphrey (D-MN), and Mike Mansfield (D-MT) introduced a substitute bill that they hoped would attract enough Republican votes to end the filibuster (Source: Wikipedia).
2) As far at the vote, the outcome is telling:
The original House version:
• Democratic Party: 152-96 (61%-39%)
• Republican Party: 138-34 (80%-20%)
Cloture in the Senate:
• Democratic Party: 44-23 (66%-34%)
• Republican Party: 27-6 (82%-18%)
The Senate version:
• Democratic Party: 46-21 (69%-31%)
• Republican Party: 27-6 (82%-18%)
The Senate version, voted on by the House:
• Democratic Party: 153-91 (63%-37%)

So, it appears that though republicans voted in greater numbers (by far) for the act and broke the filibuster all they really did was block passage.
Some would have you believe that the southern Democrats that resisted the Civil Rights Act are now Republicans and therefore the Republicans are now unredeemable in their racism. What do you think is the real truth? I suppose we should all keep telling ourselves Wallace was a Republican because facts are just not convenient when they contradict the gospel.
George Wallace:
"In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever."
Best,

George Wallace. Democrat.
Not Evil, Just Wrong. Well, maybe a little evil, though in deference, he did a little repentance later in life. Still, ask an average Democrat if he was a Democrat and they will likely tell you: Hell No, he must have been the R word.
Best,
Lazy Jack
This site is hilarious. It's a bunch of blind partisan republicans patting themselves on the back to reassure themselves. All of these questions relate to "facts" from 40+ years ago! Is this really your proof that you're not the racist party? You know what makes the republican party the party of bigots? The fact that they purposely cater to the bigot vote. Does this mean everyone in the party is a bigot? No, but I will keep calling the party the "white party" as long as it keeps trying to bank off the voting block of people who hate blacks and gays.
Many thanks to CNN & Lou Dobbs
The real sadness is that, though slavery was abolished, the Democrats still 'own' the vast majority of minorities.
The political ideologies – democrat/republican can only be as racist, or bigoted as their congressional and public membership. On their own democrat/republican cannot be "racist" because ideologies can't discriminate by "race". It only makes sense that the particular members infuse their political faction with their own cultural bias. It's not whether Dems are more racist or biased than Repubs, that has to be decided by analyzing the individual actions of members of those parties and if they wear the mantle of their political affiliation to align themselves one way or the other with regard to discrimination and bias.
The Democrat Party was conceived in bigotry and hate: lynching, slavery, Jim Crow, the KKK, mediocre schools all created by… Democrats…
But white women receive the majority of food stamps and aide benefits.
And what has the Democrat Party done for the Black man or the gays? Helped Blacks get an unprecedented number of abortions, provided low income housing and encouraged them to accept their place in life as a victim. Affirmative action is nothing more than saying "we will dumb it down because you are not smart enough to compete". Yes, I see why blacks vote Democrat. To do otherwise would mean they didn't accept the handouts of their Democrat masters. interestingly, the higher the education of a minority, the more they vote Republican.
Kennedy and Johnson were Republicans?
What I would really like to see is more Republicans talking about this instead of leaving the subject open to the Democrats to propagandize in their favour.
Why don't Republicans talk about this all the time? In order to attract more African-Americans into the party, they have to say these things all the time…. not just when they want to shill for their vote.
impregnated by who?Taught to worship what?Clued yet?
Actually, those who aren't registered, like Barbara and myself, can't edit our posts at all.
Just standard Alinsky/Clower-Piven.
I didn't know that.
And though the Democrats elected the first "black" president, he is only half black and not descended either from American slaves, nor blacks who suffered from segregation. He enjoyed all the blessings affirmative action could bestow with none of the sacrifice. He grew up in Hawaii, hardly a racist enclave.
Registration is free and easy.
… and another "progressive" Rhodes scholar check in.
You're right! That was taught to me by Mr.Washinton. My 1972 BLACK(as he stated) US history teacher. He was awsome, and saw things differently than me and you,and was a staunch patriot.
I noticed McCain doing that Ellie! Reps were polite to a fault; made to feel guilty. Guilty for success and just being white. Civility is key and welcoming everyone under the conservative tent. Did you hear Bob Schrum refer to Palin this weekend as the arbiter of hate! I mean come on! They're seething. Good job,
The Democrats have been selling black people (slaves 1800's) and buying (votes 1900) black people for over 200 years. WOW! Just WOW.
The history is written, when the fight to free slaves and integrate minorities was fought, it was the GOP that lifted the most. Since the emancipation of slaves in the 1800s and the 60's after state sponsored segregation was eliminated by the GOP, the Democrats finally "stepped up" to win the black vote by buying black votes with racist policies that specifically favor blacks. How does this make the GOP racist? It doesn't.
The GOP is at its best when upholding principles of individual liberty (a radical idea in 1800), which is conservative today. This is what happens when you are founded on principle, stick by that principle and don't change. You go from radical to conservative when all else around you changes with the wind.
Howard Dean, former governor of the state of Vermont, the WHITEST state in the Union, has an issue with the racial makeup of any other entity? The white liberal elite Dems want the black and hispanic votes but absolutely do not want them around to despoil their communities.
Spank, so sad & true. I pray for black Americans to look beyond the govt to their own dreams. We have to reach out to them at every turn, not give up. We must encourage people to think about their possibilities, not their limitations (even if they are poor). Stressing family, no matter what the family looks like, will also help strengthen society. I also believe in the importance of the "individual" vs. communal, group mentality. Was Thomas Edison or Temple Grandin for instance working in a group? No! Invent and do things to help others, but be a unique individual – stand out! Young people need encouragement to be original and indepent thinkers, so they don't fall thru the cracks of a mundane life. I feel like our schools are just teaching the kids what to think and shaming them for independent thoughts and ideas. Nice response,
Very good as well. You left out the part about Michael King, MLK's real identity, his name was never legally changed when his father changed it to gain notoriety for himself. Please don't forget to mention the illustrious(should be notorious) Doctor's plagiarism, sexual deviancy and drug addiction. A true role model without a doubt.
It does not help your argument to point out that Marty King was a registered republican. His associations, speeches, and politics were the same as those of pres Barry O — marxist through and through. Don't lecture people on not knowing history if you think MLK is a point for your side.
Brilliant. FDR democrat, LBJ, democrat. You must have gone to a public school to make a comment that stupid.
Any pretense they ever proffered for being for the "working man" was because, in earlier days, they recognized that ti was pointless to steal from a broke man. Now, they think they've got everybody signed on and it's pointless to kiss the working man's ass any more.
As a percentage of their populations or absolute numbers? I think I smell a liar.
What are you talking about? What is the "bigot vote"? How does one cater to it?
Who "hates" blacks and gays? How are you quantifying that? What about the fact that blacks were the swing vote in passing California's Prop 8 banning gay marriage? Does that mean blacks hate gays, and since blacks overwhelmingly vote Democrat, doesn't that make Democrats the ones who "bank off the voting block of people who hate gays"? Do the Democrats who run inner city schools, which not only fail to educate blacks, but seem intent on continuing to fail them, not "hate" blacks? Do the Democrats who run the inner cities, who have chased businesses out and allow criminals to to victimize blacks, not "hate" blacks?
A refusal to endorse the politics of racial spoils — euphemistically called "affirmative action" — is not "hatred", but rather a belief in equality and worth.
Clinton? FDR?
don't forget this one VERY imporatnt fact…
The federal government- and the military- were integrated after the civil war. It was Progressive Woodrow Wilson who segregated the government. Progressives WERE racist- the movement embraced eugenics for the 'less desirable'- and it also gave them a future wedge issue that they could support when the time was right.
Like now…
Blacks have to elevate themselves out of poverty and crime; no one can do it for them. They may have an easier time, though, if they'd stop voting party-line Democrat — the party which created the policies that mire blacks in poverty and crime.
Gays should be able to protect themselves, by exercising the right to keep and bear arms.
The same for women; a woman with a 9mm is the equal to any weight-lifting thug.
What have YOU done to protect the rights of all people? What have YOU done to promote equality and reduce division? Or are you too focused on groups to give a rip about equal rights for all?
Robert Smalls, first black to command a US warship in combat — the Planter, 1863. Served six years in the House, as a Republican, until Democrats had him convicted on trumped-up bribery charges.
The problem is that European America has never righted the wrong! You can enslave or take land or murder people based on who or what their race is and expect them to "just get over it"! In that type of situation is should be expected that blacks would desrve this and mexicans deserve that etc.
In order to right the wrong, you have to first acknowledge the wrong – own it and then it must be corrected.

The KKK was founded by and run by Democrats.
I thought that William Jefferson Clinton was the first black President.
Chicago has been run by Democrats for over 40 years.
It's the most segregated major city in the entire 1USA.
That alone should tell blacks something about Democrat politicians.
“Which is the Real ‘Racist’ Party”? Without a doubt the Democrat Party is the ‘Party of HATE’ – hate the rich, hate big business and big corporations, hate capitalism and capitalists, hate the “racist Republican Party,” hate “typical white people,” hate “house niggers” (Rev. James Meeks), etc; however, this ‘Party of HATE’ hides behind a James Hal Cone quote in an attempt to avoid being labeled the “Real ‘Racist’ Party”:
“It is important to make a further distinction here among black hatred, black racism, and Black Power. Black hatred is the black man's strong aversion to white society. No black man living in white America can escape it…But the charge of black racism cannot be reconciled with the facts. While it is true that blacks do hate whites, black hatred is not racism. Racism, according to Webster, is 'the assumption that psychocultural traits and capacities are determined by biological race and that races differ decisively from one another, which is usually coupled with a belief in the inherent superiority of a particular race and its rights to dominance over others.' Where are the examples among blacks in which they sought to assert their right to dominance over others because of a belief in black superiority?”
James Hal Cone uses “Webster” to backup his corrupted definition of racism, and conveniently omits Merriam-Webster’s inclusion of “racial prejudice or discrimination” in its definition.
Thanks to Howard Dean here, we can add another quote from the ‘Party of HATE’ that promotes hatred, i.e. hate the “White Party.”
Chicago has been completely controlled by Democrats for at least the last 40 years.
Chicago is the most segregated major city in the entire USA.
What does that tell you?
Read this. It might educate some of you…but I doubt it.

I just learned I'm proud to be a redneck.
Ya got a problem with that????????????
What have you done?
The dems forget their history, and want to re-write history to paint Republicans as racists.
But the facts are the facts, as to who opposed civil rights legislation, instituted Jim Crow laws, created the KKK, etc.
If you look at in "per capita" terms, you will see the disparity.
This may be a stupid question, but where do you regsiter?
God I just wish more people knew their history.
So when exactly is the wrong finally made right? Should people be put to death for murders they didn't do, should people be enslaved for the enslavement of others? Sorry but I don't think that two wrongs make a right. And to the best of my knowledge slavery was abolished over a century ago, and civil rights have been established since the sixties so how much more, "owning up to," or "correcting," should there be?

Which party is the racist party? That's easy…which party supports the genocide of the black community…
This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."
Warmonger? How 'bout holding up THE FIRST PARAGRAGH of their oath!It states to defend against all enemies internal and external. That darn internal clause should make you uncomfortable.
Well, they named a lot of streets after Martin Luther King, Jr. They got a paid holiday for federal workers and bankers in Dr. King's name. That's about it.
You know that is true and that is a nasty side effect of welfare too. They're not engaged in life! Just their little microcosm. How boring it must be, what a waste of their own potential. Our society is fat and lazy, but that will change soon and people will be reenergized. Surely all the info on the internet will help people with even an inkling of curiosity. Smart catch,
Personal liberties? Like the liberty for gay men to marry? Oh no, that one doesn't count.
I wonder how long this circle jerk will last. Aren't you guys bored of patting yourselves on the back yet? Especially for things that were done before most of you were born.
What have you done in YOUR lifetime? What have you done to help elevate blacks out of poverty and crime?
What have you done to protect gays?
What have you done to protect women's rights? Though I know you'll claim you're more worried about the baby's rights.
The answer…a whole boat load of NOTHING.
Democrats hate it when blacks escape the Democrat Plantation.
I don't know where you got that quote from Johnson, but give the man some credit. When he became President, he saw he had an historic opportunity to make Civil Rights for minorities a reality; that as a Southern Democrat, he had the moral authority to speak and act against racism, the KKK, and segregation. Many Southerners considered him a traitor for doing that, but he perservered; and our country is the better for it.
Both Bushes, having made their family's fortune in the oil industry, had the same moral authority to start the US down the path of energy-independence by taking on Big Oil. They chose not to.
Reread the posting, Ryan. The first to take action that led to the MOH, not the first to actually receive it.
No, I chose not to use it.
Throw a rock into a pack of wolves, and the one hit yelps.
There it is. Unsubstantiated assertions used to counter historical facts. Nice try, Mikey.

That's an easily disproven lie. If you're going to lie, at least make it somewhat feasible.
All of you need to stop falling for this 'divide and rule' bullshit . . . the operational code of behavior for the American society is "Social Darwinism." Social Darwinism is a late 19th century sociological theory based on the theories of biological evolution and natural selection. The leading proponent was Herbert Spencer. Spencer, an English economist, suggested that people and societies were subject to the same laws of natural selection as plants and animals, and it was he who coined the phrase “survival of the fittest.”
As a sociological theory, Social Darwinism originated with the publication of “Physics and Politics”, by Walter Bagehot, an English economist. Bagehot asserted the idea that social groups developed into nations through intergroup struggles. However, Social Darwinism reached its most radical formulation with Ludwig Gumplowicz’s work, The Racial Struggle. This work theorized that social evolution was a product of group conflict.
As a system of belief, the primary focus of Social Darwinism was on the acquisition of wealth and power, i.e., money should be used to gain power, and power should be used to protect wealth. As such, this belief system was composed primarily of five basic principles, which were drawn from history, law, economics, religion, and biology. These principles are:
- The least government is the best government;
- The sanctity of property;
- The acquisition of wealth is a mark of divine favor;
- The principle of White and Nordic supremacy; and
- The pseudo-scientific principle of the ‘survival of the fittest.’
As an ideological code for behavior, Social Darwinism is the foundation upon which the American social structure has been built. The human interaction that it fosters is reflected in the perpetuation of dominant/subservient relationships, which has been the source of cultural racism. This divisive ideology is sustained by social policies that reveal the underlying and inherent beliefs of the society: that the most successful classes are biologically superior, and should rule those viewed as less advanced. The implementation and practice of these beliefs gave formation to the rigid social norms that were implemented after the emancipation of slaves, and lasted until the Civil Rights Movement. Although Dr. Martin Luther King is presented historically as the key figure of the movement, its father was Reverend Vernon Johns.
As a response to the social gains made by Civil Rights Movement, a resurgence of conservative politics was initiated in the 1960s. Within two decades, and backed by corporate funding, it was positioned to influence American social policy. To gain further control, and through the Reagan presidency, proponents of conservative politics launched a five pronged attack on the American society. The aim was to reassert control over the society in the face of gains made by African Americans.
According to Bertram Gross, in his work Friendly Fascism: The New Face of Power in America, the idea was to enhance and promote social division. Generally, the strategy has been to: (1) promote militarism, racism, and anti-Semitism to divide people; (2) promote divisive social issues to divide political camps; (3) promote a first strike foreign policy upon the pretense of treat; (4) promote policies that undermined or eliminated the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th amendments to the Constitution. Collectively, these are the Constitutional guarantees to free speech, not to be unreasonably searched and seized, held without due process, having a speedy trial, trial by jury, and not to have excessive bail imposed. The fifth tactic Gross identified as the most insidious, which involved the creation and support of foundations whose aims are to promote confusion within the public mind by using the process known as triple speak. Christopher Lasch characterized these aims as “The Revolt of the Elite.”
In his book by the same name, Lasch collectively identifies these operatives as “symbolic analysts”, who live in the abstract and have separated themselves from common people, who live in the body. These are “lawyers, academics, journalists, systems analysts, bankers, etc.”, “who traffic in words and numbers for a living.” They are accused by Lasch of betraying democracy by intensifying social divisions, degrading public discourse, and promoting a spiritual predicament, “the heart of our existing social and political crisis.”
