Jake Boot

Jacob Q. Boot is the pseudonym of a New York born and bred journalist who no longer recognizes the content, ethos or standards of the MSM newspapers and magazines that have paid him a nice living for so many years. When not despairing at the lock-step mindset and tyranny of the left, he dreams of opening a newspaper in Albuquerque.

Over at Gateway Pundit, Jim Hoft reports:

It begins… School officials at Palm Beach State College kicked members of the Young America’s Foundation off campus after they saw anti-Obama literature at their table.

It was offensive.

Administrators and Campus Police Kick YAF members off campus after seeing anti-Obama literature at their table.

Other college groups were allowed to stay on campus despite not registering for the event.

If you were the editor of the “National Paper Of Record,” what stories would you have put on the front page this morning?

Our choices would be:

  1. The news that the real estate developer behind the Ground Zero mosque has a very shady past, with numerous arrests and questions about his financing, including a huge past-due tax debt on the mosque site.
  2. The news about the two men (of – you guessed it – Muslim heritage) who were arrested in Amsterdam after their luggage was discovered to have a cache of suspicious objects, leading authorities to wonder if this was some kind of security test.
  3. The news that the Secretary of Education,  Arne Duncan, sent an email to everyone in his department, encouraging his workers to attend the Al Sharpton rally on Sunday, possibly violating the Hatch act.
  4. The news that an official peer-based inquiry into the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found there was “little evidence” for its claims about global warming.

So how did the editors of the New York Times play these stories?   Answer after the jump: (more…)

That would be Rick Sanchez to those of you, as Rush says, in Rio Linda:

How does Greg Gutfeld do it? Get those hidden robocams into the inner sanctum sanctorum of the super top-secret, George Soros-funded clubhouse of the super-defensive hacks and non-entities known as Media Matters for America?

Your tax dollars at work: hoop dreams, 2010:

Even Dana Milbank of the in-the-tank, corrupt Washington Post — Ground Zero of the JournoList — can’t take it any more:

While President Obama’s wife and younger daughter were conducting international relations in Majorca on Sunday with Spain’s King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, the commander in chief was at home hosting a fantasy camp for himself. He and his buddies had a birthday weekend barbecue and basketball game with LeBron James, Alonzo Mourning, Magic Johnson and other legends of the sport.

The day before, it was a four-hour golf outing for Obama and the boys. On Monday, he hosted the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints at the White House and talked about his own exploits on the gridiron last year with Saints quarterback Drew Brees. “He tossed me a nice tight spiral that I then lateraled to a kid on [Dallas Cowboys linebacker] DeMarcus Ware’s shoulders,” the president recalled. “I also want to point out I beat [Pittsburgh Steelers safety] Troy Polamalu over the middle on that throw.” Obama turned to Brees. “You remember?”

Boys will be boys — even if they’re presidents…

The editor of the L.A. Weekly speaks the truth about the California media and how it covered — or didn’t cover — Prop. 8:

The AP covers President Obama’s busy, busy schedule.  Luckily, there’s nothing important going on in the world:

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is capping his birthday week with an afternoon of golfing on Saturday and a barbecue on Sunday.

obama with military

The White House says the president went golfing on Saturday with eight friends, some with ties to his college days, his hometown of Chicago and his childhood home state of Hawaii. They were spending the afternoon at the Andrews Air Force Base course.

On Sunday, Obama plans to host a barbecue for friends at the White House, ending a week in which he turned 49 without his family around.

First lady Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha are vacationing in Spain; the Obamas’ older daughter, Malia, has been at camp.

Obama’s birthday was Wednesday. He celebrated in Chicago with friends, including Oprah Winfrey.

As for that question about President Bush… (more…)

For the left and the leftists in the media, no news development favorable to the right is ever subject to Occam’s Razor, which posits that the simplest explanation for any given event is the one most likely to be true. Instead, they prefer to see conspiracies everywhere. In their primitive,  increasingly demented fantasy world, dark forces are always in motion: a team of invisible gunmen took out JFK in Dallas instead of a communist with a rifle and a vantage point; Bush blew up the levees in New Orleans, instead of years of corrupt neglect.

And if Sarah Palin’s somehow involved… well, their heads just can’t rotate fast enough, as this clip from ABC’s lobster-shift program, World News Now, clearly shows:

Why else would Levi Johnston apologize for slandering the Palin family?

It can’t be that he was a teenage boy, caught up in the hostile glare of a national press corps that made it Job One to destroy the only real threat to their beloved Bambi and the fulfillment of the great Narrative many of them had spent their lives fashioning. It can’t be that he was the jilted boyfriend, trying to come to grips with the responsibilities of becoming, prematurely, a father. It can’t be that, as a kid from Nowhere, Alaska, he saw a shot a national prominence, listened to the whispers in his ear, and decided to go for it.

It can’t be that he now feels genuine regret for having allowed himself to be used by the vultures of the press. (more…)

As a public service, and so you don’t have to read Frank Rich in the New York Times, here’s some inspiration for his next fusion of cheap pop-cultural references and political punditry. We’re sure he’ll be able to discover some parallels between this 1994 Coen brothers’ classic and our contemporary situation:

If you want to know why the Republicans are called the “stupid party,” you need to look no further than this story about John Boehner’s distancing himself from Congressman Joe Barton’s remark that, based on no constitutional authority, BP had been “shaken down” by the Obama administration and forced to fork over a $20 billion “slush fund.”

First, please take a look at Barton’s comments:

A relatively mild statement of fact, expressed inoffensively. So naturally, the spineless jellyfish who pass for the “leaders” of the Stupid Party immediately started backpedaling away:

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) broke with a top Republican on Thursday who suggested BP had suffered a “shakedown” by being forced to set up a $20 billion fund to pay out damages.

Asked at his weekly press conference if he disagreed with Barton’s characterization of the deal struck Wednesday at the White House, Boehner quickly responded, “I do.”

“BP agreed to fund the cost of this cleanup from the beginning and I’m glad they’re being held accountable,” Boehner told reporters.

When is the Stupid Party going to wise up and realize that the only way fight Obamaism is by going on the attack, by using the weapons of the left against them — relentlessness, implacable opposition and a ruthless willingness to pick up beer bottles and paving stones and pool cues if it will help win the fight. The left never compromises unless it has to, never apologizes unless it is forced to and never cedes an inch of ground that it is not wrested from it in intellectual combat. (more…)

Dateline: Kalamazoo. And over to you.

First it was Bristol Palin’s pregnancy. Then it was Sarah Palin’s very existence. And now, courtesy of the once-interesting but now completely unhinged blogger/amateur gynecologist Andrew Sullivan, it’s the Palin Family Fence.

You heard that right.

Poor Sullivan. Once one of the most interesting writers in the blogosphere, the Prince of Provincetown has managed to parlay an exalted state in both the MSM and online into a crude caricature of his former self.

The occasion for his latest burst of high dudgeon is the Palin family’s newly constructed fence between their property and a rental house being leased by Joe McGinniss, the writer whose last major book, the true-crime thriller, Fatal Vision, was published in 1983, yet whose name still retains some cachet among his former journalistic brethren. McGinniss is currently at work on a book about… wait for it — Sarah Palin. (more…)

Really, can it get any worse? Can once-proud media organizations sully themselves any more? Andrea “NBC News, Washington” Mitchell married to Alan Greenspan. Christiane Amanpour married to former Clinton Administration mouthpiece Jamie Rubin.  Speaking of Clinton hacks, James Carville and Paul Begala, shacking up together at CNN. And now this. From Newsbusters:

To highlight the announcement that Bianna Golodryga had been named co-anchor of the weekend Good Morning America, ABC blurred the lines of journalism on Sunday and brought on the host’s fiancee, Barack Obama’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Peter Orszag.

In a fawning piece on Golodryga’s life story, an onscreen graphic identified Orszag only as the journalist’s fiancee. At the end of the segment, the Democratic official strode onto the set, surprising the host. Only then, almost as an aside, did co-anchor Bill Weir explain, “…For those who may not know, Bianna’s fiance is in President Obama’s cabinet.”

What a surprise! A news anchor engaged to an Obama Administration official.  And one with, shall we say, a Lothario-like past. Pillow talk — what pillow talk? We’re all professionals here!

In the old days, such relationships were grounds for firing, not a promotion. But the demoralized ABC News obviously no longer cares about propriety, integrity or anything else. Today, sleeping with a source is simply good “journalism.” Not to mention, “access.” (more…)

Did you ever wish you were one of those big-time journalists in Manhattan, sitting in a nice office, opining on the state of the world each week and getting well paid for it? Would you like to say the same thing over and over again at tiresome length, in prose that reads like it was translated from the original Hungarian? Would you like to occupy and depreciate some of the most valuable journalistic real estate in the country?

Well, you can. All you have to do is follow a few simple rules.

frank rich

Like most of his fellow, very bad, Op-Ed writers on the New York Times, Frank Rich — non-bestselling author and showbiz wannabee — has a few little bugbears and bogeymen he likes to write about each week in the course of wasting oceans of ink and newsprint in his mind-numbing essays about… well, pretty much nothing, except the usual suspects: show tunes, gay rights, and Those Darned Republicans.

And so they’re scared. Scared as we should all be, if the truth be known. The truth would have to be TOLD first, of course, and as usual the MSM is missing a great story.  What is coming? Long lines at the “medical collective?”

Yeah, that, but now that the administration has proven it can make us eat a law that nobody wants, they’re going to pull another dead rabbit out of the hat, and even the people who haven’t been paying attention feel it coming.

Amnesty.

Not for people who’ve sent angry emails to their congressman.

For illegal immigrants.

usa-mexico-border

It’s already started. Obama needs to replace the millions of voters who are angry at the way the Health Bill was passed. The quickest way is an amnesty program that would make an estimated 35 million illegal immigrants instant democrat voters.

For the regular U.S. citizen who lives on or near the Southern Border with Mexico, this is not just the fodder for Sunday morning news shows and talk radio. This is something they live with. Chuckie Schumer says 15,000 people cross the border illegally every day. That number is only going to increase as the possibility of a new Amnesty grows brighter – every time the Obama Administration announces it is abandoning the “virtual fence” and cutting funding for Border Patrol and INS operations, or Los Angeles immigrant rights’ groups file lawsuits forcing requests that police “ease up” on nationality checks on arrested suspects, the message is clear:

“Welcome.” (more…)

The AP story announcing the shift in Administration policy is incorrect.  The Obama Administration has, in fact, redoubled its efforts to rid the world of extremist jihadists and terrorists — as long as they are connected with the Tea Party movement.

Even as it continues to do its Orwellian best to redefine our enemies from U.S. Hating Religious Fundamentalists to “disgruntled foreign nationals,” (as if they were a particularly impatient man on line at the Post Office), it has, using the full force of the government and mass media, begun scouring the country for genuinely disenfranchised Americans it can re-brand as dangerous — excuse me, “potentially” dangerous domestic terrorists.

Only in America in 2010 could groups defending the constitution be transformed by the press corps in villains who by their very beliefs may possibly, someday, inspire a demented individual to commit an act of violence be presented as a greater threat than groups and even countries who have actually made part of their charters the destruction of America and her allies.
