Thought experiment here, does anyone think this is offensive?
If that offended you please cease reading now and write me hate mail before you go to class at Bob Jones University, or file child-abuse charges against Jesus. Humor is a way to cope with the problems of the world. Only fundamentalists who take themselves way too seriously cannot understand this simple human concept. Fact is, most Christians are not offended this easily, nor would we threaten with death this guy:

Or even this guy:

I am a Christian. I have been my whole life. Went to Calvary Chapel Christian school, been baptized, youth group, college Bible studies, the whole works. I attended a Lutheran Church Confirmation today (I’m not Lutheran but was invited by the Candidate I’m working for here in Iowa). Even at this serious event, in a serious denomination, in a seriously old dark oak German building, the cleric brought humor into the Sermon. His first line to all the 14-year-old newly minted Lutherans was:
“You have all wasted the last three years of your life.” Followed by humorous anecdotes.
That’s what makes Christianity such a beautiful religion to be apart of and such a perfect fit in our society. We can laugh at ourselves. It brings us back to reality and helps us correct some of our flaws. Three cheers for Trey Parker and Matt Stone for daring to treat Islam the same way they treat all other religions, and shame on the MSM for underreporting this gross injustice against freedom of speech when Comedy Central censored the creativity of these culture warriors.
For any of you who want to see Mohamed in South Park, here he in a July 4, 2001 episode before the censors got out their black boxes:

Hooray for new media.

Apparently the person who made the website chickened out or something. Can’t anyone stand up to these Muslim murders once and fall all? It can’t be that hard to create another blog where we CAN put our pictures!!! Please, who will take the torch that that loser just dropped?
I say “keep Draw Moo-Ha-Mud day alive on May 20th.” Who is going to take the lead? Benny Johnson, do you have a new blog we can showcase the artwork?
I saw we get ourselves a blog and as we finish our drawings we upload them. Why do we need one person to lead us. Man, there were a lot more balls back in the day at the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s. Remember the Hey Iran! t-shirts that everybody was sporting with Mickey Mouse giving the finger to Iran?
Nothing wrong with Bob Jones University, IMO.
Even Liberty University, for that matter.
Like that has anything to do with your points. Why diss Christians who may think this is offensive, and not funny?
Are they not entitled to voice their opinions about the video?
But hey, Christians are an easy target for humor, right?
That makes it okay to offend your brothers and sisters, right?
Certainly sounds very worldly of an approach, using Christianity and Jesus as a joke.
I'm sure the rewards on Earth are worth it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the progressive media types behind the blogs start pulling the blogs offensive to CAIR.
"Supporters argued the Piss Christ is an issue of artistic freedom and freedom of speech."
Think about it…
Imagine, if Serrano was threatened with death, in the same way Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been threatened? How about if it was by a white Christian male? Maybe a person who was also Republican to boot? Better yet, how about a small group of these same twisted souls bent on teaching Serrano a good lesson.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piss_Christ
Think our friends on the Left, NY Times, Sean Penn, Matt Damon & Co.might have a thing or two to say on the issue?
What I want to know, is why the silence? From Theo van Gogh to this latest issue with Stone and Parker.
Their silence speaks volumes.
"Only fundamentalists who take themselves way too seriously cannot understand this simple human concept."
And, as is a well known fact, seriousness is the sole refuge for the mediocre mind. That explains everything in life, IMO.
LMAO… Okays, I can see a series.. Punked by Jesus, it would be great. This shows the difference between Christians and Muslims. Jesus was human, who knew humanities foiables and weaknesses and overcame them in a believe in God, Jesus not only had a sense of humor, as demonstrated in his parables, but also a sense of human suffering, weakness, and strength that only strengthened his message. Whereas, Islam disregards humanity's condition and demands blind obedience and death to those they cant understand.
The thing is,
Jesus told his disciples the truth. He told them they would be persecuted. But his disciples also learned about love — in fact, that was the whole point.
I can't understand a faith that fears man. Faith in God means trusting God to handle insults against Him.
But in fact, there is no similarity between Islam and Christianity. Islam is about works. Christianity is about the utter depravity of man and the redeeming sacrifice of Christ on man's behalf. It's all about trusting Christ.
Simpson's trumped South Park again in the opening credits with Bart's message on the blackboard. Even the Bartman knows that the South Parkians are cowards.
Man, you had to go way back in time before 9/11 to get this cartoon picture? Are we gonna do draw mohammed day or not? This is now critical.
Pamella Geller is a sponsor of a group called Stop Islamification of America and it was on Facebook UNTIL somebody declared it "offensive".
Guess who? I bet CAIR, being the Islamic pigs that they are.

Malachi42 I suggest you actually watch SP before commenting on Matt and Trey and their ability to trash all comers, regardless of race religion creed etc. mohamed has been done by them before, and they will do so again, Because they actually DO have balls, see you on May 20th,
Bob
That video is too dumb to be offensive.
The real problem with that video clip is that it is just not funny.
As such, it offends my critical judgement of what is considered humorous.
It is on the same level as those moronic Dan Brown books and movies. It is not that they could be construed as blasphemous, just that they are transgressions against the concept of plot structure, storytelling, and suspension of disbelief.
Something does not have to be denounced as religiously offensive to be denounced as utterly lacking in artistic merit.
Honestly, I did find that "Jesus Pwn3d U" video mildly offensive, in the same way that I would find a video of someone dressing up like my parents or my friends or myself and doing those things to be vaguely insulting.
But at the same time, I don't begrudge anyone the right to make such a video, and in fact I would willingly fight a war to protect their right to do so. The issue at hand is not whether people find jokes at the expense of their religion offensive. It's what they do and how they comport themselves when they *are* offended that counts.
It was plain old "DUMB" humor.. big deal Jesus…. Christians have thicker skin then even being offended by that… I mean, put that shoe on the Muslims and you can worry about your head being taken off…. my word, being PC is soooo chich right now….What happended to my great country?
Humor is war. Alinsky got that. We need to get it too. The sooner the better.
Jesus used this form of warfare when he satirized the ethnocentrism of his day (Matthew 15:26), when he made very harsh sarcastic remarks about legalism (Mat 7:3) and in many other instances. So the issue for Christians should not be 'is sarcasm, humor, and satire Christian?' Of course it is. But the question should be 'what is the object of my act of war?.' Just as guns are not inherently wrong (and can be very good if used for the right purpose) but shooting at the wrong target definitely is wrong, humor needs to be doled out carefully. If I say that "it will keep snowing until Al Gore says uncle" (as someone said this winter), I am skillfully and hilariously attacking a deserving target. If I make fun of a the down syndrome child of a Christian Governor of Alaska….maybe I am doing something wrong.
This can be applied to jokes about religion as well. What is the object of our scorn? What is the target of my attack? Jon Stewart is a very funny guy. Unfortunately, all too often that well tuned weapon of war is pointed at all that is good in the world. That is a bad thing. Jon Stewart should be recognized as an enemy when he does this.
To the author of this blogpost (Benny Johnson), I would caution you that ancients would not even write or say the name of God. They did this because they hallowed His name. They feared Him. They loved him – not like a kid brother but like a powerful and righteous King. You may think that because humor is ok in general, Christians should giggle along as people mock holiness, morality, and those who care about justice….but you are wrong and you don't understand how humor works.
http://religionannarbor.wordpress.com/ .
You get inherently that humor is war. Nothing defeats a movement faster than mocking.
I agree that free speech permits such videos but I disagree with the author of the post (Benny Johnson) that we should merrily laugh along.
http://religionannarbor.wordpress.com/ .
The hypocrisy is astounding. The crucifix in urine can be government sponsored, while our enemies become a protected victim class, which will only make them stronger and encourage them to be more violent.
Once you censor muslim criticism, it will be harder to put the genie back in the bottle. Draw Muhammad.
.
The fact that is not funny makes it better. Well trained humor that mocks good things is more pernicious than crappy humor….humor is war and if the enemy is shooting satire at me I would prefer their gun shoots crooked.
http://religionannarbor.wordpress.com/ .
Agree that Christians should be full of humor. Jesus was. But the question is what is the object of our satire. Do we satirize that which is good. Do we mock the weak? Do we make those trying to do good look foolish? Or do we train our targets on making Al Gore and Obama look like the clowns that they are?

I told my husband that all we had to do to protect ourselves would be to drape ourselves with an image of Mohammed.
They aren't allowed to defile it, so…
Why do you insist on insulting the porcine community?
The cartoons represent free speech.
Dying fighting for free speech is dying for freedom.
And justice.
And even protecting the innocent.
Not every battle is fought with arms.
You are correct. I apologize to swine everywhere.
How about t-shirts with Mo's visage on them? I personally would wear such a t-shirt in public only if I were armed to the teeth, but a large group of t-shirt wearing Americans picketing the local Muslim Student Association would…probably get everyone arrested for inciting a riot. Didn't we used to have a First Amendment?

Well Benny, my friend, I laughed. I thought it was funny and chuckled.
Sometimes a joke is just a joke. It makes some people laugh, and others not. Reading the comments here, some people REALLY need to lighten up and stop analyzing every damn thing like it's a personal attack on your religious choice or a slap at God.
I respect God and Christ and love them as any other Christian. He gave us a sense of humor for a reason.
I've always thought that this pardody from Mad-TV about Jesus actually managed to be both funny and fairly positive and respectful in it's portrayal of Jesus.
Hi tyketto, I am sure I am one of the people you think needs to "REALLY" lighten up. Might be true – sorry.
The reason I made the post was that someone a few years ago explained the whole "humor is war" concept to me. They explained how Saul Alinsky utilized this concept. He wrote, "It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule." Since they explained this to me, I see it being used by the Left constantly. I thought it might be worth noting to everyone here that they should pay attention to this tool of the political (and religious) battles.
For a great book on the Christian use of humor check this book out (they have the whole book on google for those of you with nook).

What is interesting is that many people including my brother in law are so offended by any criticism of Obama as if what you say against lefty POLICIES is equal to a personal attack against their God. When you are comfortable with what you believe and are confident in the truth of it there tends to be more "tolerance" of others, and willingness to examine what you believe, thus the freedom we have in a country based in the truth of the Judeo Christian scriptures. If muslims were open in their countries then people could evaluate Islam and decide if it lines up with reality and the human condition. But if you are playing mind games with yourself you will be defensive and inconsistent, not willing to listen. This is how cults are formed, this is how the left operates, this is how evolutionists/global warmers operate and this is how islam works. This to me is a clue as to them not having the truth, or not being confident they have it. It is what a child does when they dont want to hear, stick their fingers in their ears and say blah blah blah.
what's going on here?
All my post are not posted/
Am I being blocked?
Well, now they're posting ???!!??!!??
I don't find that video offensive or funny, just dumb.

If you have to be Powned be Powned by the best. TOOO FUNNY ( I would Laugh if this was Moses Mohamed Thor or a tree called Ghia it is just funny. The message is never mess with a Diety
But it is saying something important. Two things actually.
First it is saying that no individual or group is above comment, criticism, satire, or just plain humor, no matter a claimed basis of culture, ethnicity, religion, or anything else.
Second it is saying that no individual or group may reserve any right to enforce its beliefs, and the punishments derived from the same, on others, again no matter the claimed basis.
These are critical issues. Even now Muslims have succeeded in demanding that things as simple as piggy banks not be offered as gifts by private businesses because it offends their faith, or that pictures of pet dogs not be displayed by coworkers for the same reason.
If you stand by and let it start with speech it will inevitably extend to everything. It may seem minor, it may seem irrelevant, it may even truly be utterly absurd to pin it on something like cartoons. Your lunch money is pretty unimportant in the grand scheme of your lifetime finances. How many times will you surrender it to me on demand before you are willing to take a stand on something so unimportant?
Why are the South Parkians cowards? Matt and Trey are the ones who took on the hypocrisy of Censorship and radical islam. They were censored by Comedy Central who would be the true cowards here.
Apology accepted.
It wasn't Parker and Stone who censored it. They put out a statement specifically stating it was against their wishes.
Also, apologies to small, but "crafty" dodgeball players everywhere!
oh, come on. the soccer thing with the official red-carding the kid at the end was HILARIOUS
I remember Matt and Trey's declarations of how they would fight their censoring in the past. May the SuperBestFriends protect us all, or Joseph and his magic salamander DUM DE DUM DUM DUM.
I remember when Scientology was threatening and their words then to fight Comedy Central, makes me think Chef's alter ego was right.
The intent has everything to do with how it is percieved, It usually is obvious when something is intending something to demean and when it is kidding around. To mock someone has a different vibe then what the above video portrays.
check out the video of cobert at 2:35http://exploringourmatrix.blogspot.com/2010/03/st... this to me is more demeaning to those who actually believe in salvation by faith alone in Christ alone. But it is not really offensive, in light of what I believe it would be more concerning to me whether or not the person means it. So yea its obviously offensive when someone urinates on a picture of Jesus, but I would just pray for them to come to their senses.

Very interesting, Elijah Mocked and he even mocked their god, now this would not fly today unless its against Christ.
1 Kings 18:27 And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.” 28 So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.
