While the media is dragging out the insensitive, possibly racist comments of Harry Reid and Bill Clinton, let me throw a few hypotheticals out there because a journalistic ethical line may have been crossed, and was done so with biased intent by New York Magazine’s John Heilemann and Time magazine’s Mark Halperin.
A pre-arranged agreement probably took place here between the reporters and interviewees, but we all know what contracts and pre-nuptial agreements are worth nowadays.
Hypothetical #1
Harry Reid made his
“light-skinned”, “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”
comments during the 2008 presidential primaries.
Had the reporters (and I use that title intentionally) reported what they heard, that may or may not have had an effect on the outcome. Some voters might have been so disgusted with Reid, they may have taken it out on Obama’s opponents at the time, or stayed home altogether.
Hypothetical #2
Had the comments about the Edwardses come out earlier,
What the world saw in Elizabeth: A valiant, determined, heroic every-woman. What the Edwards insiders saw: An abusive, intrusive, paranoid, condescending crazy-woman.
that may have had an effect on fundraising, as people might have stopped wasting their money on John, not wanting to risk another Teresa Heinz Kerry drama, and diverted money to other candidates. Edwards may have been long gone earlier.
Hypothetical #3
Had it been revealed in a timely matter that Senator Ted Kennedy was at odds with Bill Clinton because he said of Barack Obama,
… a few years ago this guy would have been getting us coffee.
along with reports of Bill ‘ridin’ dirty’ again during the campaign, Hillary’s campaign may have been sunk early on.

Now, here’s were the media bias angle kicks in — remember, we heard nothing about this during the campaign.
Hypothetical #4
What if any of the insensitive, possibly racist comments were said by John McCain? Do you honestly think New York Magazine’s John Heilemann and Time Magazine’s Mark Halperin would have sat on it because they were writing a book to be published later, or would they consider incendiary quotes like the ones attributed to Harry Reid uber-newsworthy?
Had any disparaging remarks quotes been attributed to John McCain early on, it could’ve cleared the path for Mitt Romney. Would Romney have been robbed of the nomination because of the selective omission by two well-placed reporters? The case could be made.
The problem is the ethical line that’s been crossed by Halperin and Heilemann.
Had it not been for their being writers for New York and Time (two publications not particularly known for fairness to Republicans and/or conservatives), they would never have been granted that kind of access to presidential candidates to gather notes for a book.
During the campaign we heard all about the infighting within the McCain-Palin camp, thus the revelations in the book aren’t new news. Almost all the juicy stuff coming out now via “Game Change” is about Democrats and (under the umbrella of being book authors who apparently whored themselves out) none of it came out until a year and a half after the 2008 presidential election.
If anything, Halperin and Heilemann are guilty of double-dipping as they got paid to cover the campaign and write an “independent” book at the same time. I will give them the same benefit of the doubt I gave Harry Reid as I don’t know what’s in the hearts of any of those involved, but this sure smells like these two reporters chose what they would release, and saved the good stuff for another paying gig.
I find it very hard to believe they’d be so silent about the bombshell contents of an upcoming book if they were privy to quotes that could have sunk a Republican, but maybe that’s the cynic biased journalism has turned us into.

One thing I know for sure: with these guys being employed by New York Magazine and Time, they were probably huge Palin fans to begin with and it probably pained them to have to pass along unflattering and dubiously sourced information about her. /sarc
r u implying the political media in this country has an agenda? 'cause that's just crazy talk …
The reporters, who are not clairvoyant, win on all levels. They run cover for their ideological favorites by saying nothing, and if ,in the future, it's relevant and juicy, the they get to sell it… And the voters, get the ususal laundered story favorable to the left….
Right on target. The msm is more selective than objective.
I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Reid's comment about Barry not having a negro dialect unless he wanted one can be understood if anyone has seen Barry's speech to SEIU. Barry was trying his darndest to sound blacker than he is. That day was a day that Barry wanted to have one.
Mr. Parks,
I always enjoy your articles. Your insight and perspective is thought provoking. Thank you, and keep up the good work.
"The problem is the ethical line that’s been crossed by Halperin and Heilemann."
Call me a jaded cynic, but I prefer to use the term realist, yet I found out a long time ago, that for most folk, when monetary gain enters the picture, ethics normally disappear. As apparently is the case with Halperin and Heilemann. Woodward and Bernstein they are not………
Thanks for your article, Mr. Parks. I believe your analysis is is 'on (and about) the money' where these two so-called journalists are concerned.
One thing I've decided, I do plan to eventually read this book. It's just that I'll wait until there is a used one sitting around somewhere on Amazon. These two slimey reporters won't get any royalties off me. I would suggest everyone do the same. It's the only way the little guys can be a "game changer".
Mr. Parks-
I agree wholeheartedly with all of your points, except, not having read the book itself (and have no plans to), I don't know when they got this information. Did they get it during post-campaign interviews or during the campaign?
Similar deal to the photos of Barry in college taken at The Cooler. The straw hat and rolled smoke.. hmm.."This could be a problem. We'll sit on these photos until the election is over." Thank you, Time magazine.
I have to completely agree. This video I found asks the same question: http://www.newsy.com/videos/game-change-gossip-or... I have to say that what Halperin and Heilemann did was far short of what can be called "journalism". They are just in it for the money as far as I'm concerned. If they felt what they had to say was so important that people should find out about it, why not when they actually found it out. Not a year and a half after the fact and in an independent book that could make a comfortable amount of revenue?
Typical liberal B.S., the fruit doesn't fall too far from the tree, does it? "Heh-heh, he said fruit…"
Of course, to get your Masters Degree in Seedy Journalism, you still need to eke out every dollar for yourself once the coast is clear and you've done your part to help screw the American populace.
Don't buy the book.
I wouldn't even put a "You get access, if you sit on it until the book comes out" deal past these guys. Because now, this information, while somewhat damaging, is electorally irrelevant. Thus, it'll get buried come next cycle. Reid is already pretty much done for, Clinton is out of office… it is, to an extent moot at this point. Sad but true… as well as sinister.
Right now, it's all about the Benjamins, By the Fall, it will have been forgotten, along with this lame book…
If that isn't what Harry said,,,,,, just what did you hear him say?
I'm fairly certain you misunderstood the post above yours.
Wow, let's just blame it all on Pres. Bush….you friggin' libs are so pathetic…anything you deem ,as possibly ,demeaning to one or more of your false gods is not allowed in print…it is never true, and it is obviously a plot by the " almighty right wing conspiracy "…your politicians are self-agrandizing, lying, meglamaniacs that would sell their own mothers for any semblance of real or imagined power….once again, your own words are your own worst enemy…thank you all so much for your continued ,and all encompassing ignorance because it is an easily identified and recognized hallmark.
I apologize, it seems I erringly ommitted a very important word. The first sentence should have said. "It's not about WHAT Harry said…"
I like your insight and how you present the question. In addition to the areas you outline, there was, agian, no W & B moment in the book, I presume, where they jump on the hacking of Gov Palin's e-mail, correct–I will admit, I will not buy the book to find out. I can find no difference between the Watergate break in and the admitted antics of the Tennessee hacker. He stated he did it to gain neg info about the McCain-Palin campaign. Wasn't that the crux of Watergate? I was only 5, but that was my understanding of history.
Bob,great article.Of course, this news would have been out the next day if it was a republican or conservative that was at risk.I also heard that the two authors may have promised sources that they were deep background and they have been outed without consent.Keep shining the light on the roaches.
"When you're not racist, its not an issue. Its the racists that make it an issue" I think that's true for some on a personal level, but I think the issue here is that Reid would be first in line demanding resignations if McCain had uttered the same statements. It's the feigned indignation on the left that's at issue. Reid may have been 100% wrong or 100% right in his assessment; that's not the point. The point is that lefists use "racism" as a sledgehammer to silence opponents, and take everyone's eyes off the substance of what they're doing (racism as diversion). Their reaction to the Reid comments (wholly cynical, partly racial, maybe not at all racist) was hypocritical, and partisan. Pointing it out takes racism (or at least moves closer to) away from them as a rhetorical weapon. Anything that removes diversions from a pol's arsenal is a good development.
I'm sure Benjamin would want nothing to do with this nonsense…
But what would "Dagny Taggert" say about this???
I'm on page 260…Slow but incredible read…Poignancy on every page…But I'm also reading 1984…If you haven't read that lately, well, chilling doesn't begin…
Great article!!
Aren't any of you upset at the inference that American's are racist? That's what frosts me about what he said. He owes ME an apology.
I thought that after the first 200+ pages that I had completed enough to make up a "normal" novel. As I keep reading, I wonder what is next. I am not much of a reader [however, when I started reading my first Tom Clancy book, I eagerly read them all].
The timeliness of reading this book, at this particular moment in history, could open so many eyes, hearts and MINDS!
I read Atlas last year for the first time… and I'm glad I didn't attempt it until I was an adult. I wouldn't have fully understood its import in my youth. I did read 1984 in high school, and will make it the next book on my list. Though with all the jackarses in DC, Animal Farm might be closer to the truth…
I'm with Dadio on the Tom Clancy front…. the CIA laughed at him when he was researching the possibility of plane hijackings ("Executive Orders")… he was also spot-on with "Red Rabbit" (once the KGB files came out).
The beauty of Atlas (and also what makes it hard for some) is that it completely spelled out a political belief system in the form of a story (which makes the philosophical aspects more relatable, IMO). Second most influential book to the bible according to a poll I can't remember. Heard that on Stossel's great special last week
Especially if you've travelled internationally at all. I was travelling abroad once with a basketball team, and let me tell, Europe can be a pretty racist place…
I'll be lookin for the book report on 1984…I think you'll find it very "relatable" to our fearless leader. When you see the name"BigBrother" subistute Obamba and when you see the name "Goldstein" substitute Palin… Enjoy…
A well presented big picture of the ebb and flow of information and the timing of it's release over a year or two. This is how it works. We can't lament the system but understanding how forces collude like this is imperative.
The Harry Reid / "negro dialect" flap, while it may shed light on progressives' insight on racial politics, also shows that PC speak has a firm hold on dialog in general. While I despise Reid and virtually everything he stands for, his remarks are not totally off base. Many studies have shown that the electorate is influenced by traits such as height, age, speaking skills, and dress, among others. Most informed people are aware of the Nixon/Kennedy debate and how perceptions played a role.
Who has said that the question itself, or the questioner of – "Do you think a black person could ever be elected president?" – denotes racism? Does skin color play a role in votes? Obama received over 90% of the black vote so it seems clear that it can. Can he turn a dialect or accent on and off? He clearly can if you listen to his different speeches to different groups during his campaign. But so can Hillary Clinton, as she demonstrated during the campaign, and was discussed in the media.
You or I may not let such traits influence our vote for the best qualified candidate, but some do, and in a very close election it could be a deciding factor. Harry Reid may or may not be racist, but his statement, while inappropriate, is not in and of itself racist.
"….saved the good stuff for another paying gig…." is right on the money! But I'm pretty sure if McCain had made the 'coffee' remark (not that he would – he's honorable, if nothing else) or anything near what Reid said it would've dominated the news… Dominated with a capital D.
.
That's the real message and news from the book — why didn't they report all those things at the time? Wasn't that their job?
It's voluntary censorship against any bad news for liberals in America. It's blatant propaganda. Welcome to the USSA.
Also, to counter expected bad news against liberals, the MSM leaks negative items against the conservatives, eg., 25 yo alleged McCain affair leaked out by NYT with anonymous sources — because it would make the Edwards story seem less significant.
.
Obama to Reed..not to worrry..just bring me this nation's head on the healthcare bill platter..and we'll be friends again..Hug, hug..kiss, kiss..:)
Well, if you think about it, what Reid was actually saying is that you are a racist. He's saying you wouldn't vote for candidate based upon their records, but rather their hue, and dialect.
Personally I'm insulted.
Bingo… EdSki wins the top prize.
Is it a pony?
(Still channeling Greg Gutfeld from over at Big Hollywood.)
No, we just exempted you from the health-care tax. But we get your vote, right?
Hey, Conservatives: mad yet? Show everyone how much by checking http://www.keep2theright.com
Sorry, I'm not a union suck-up. The IRS is going to rape me.
Wait to buy it when it gets to the remainder pile; you can pick it up for a few bucks. At that is all it's worth.
The problem is the ethical line that’s been crossed by Halperin and Heilemann.
I think that's the problem with your premise. You seem to be operating under the assumption that MSM journalists have ethics.

The phrase "liberal-journalist" is a contradiction in terms. The most long lasting toxic dump to emerge from the 2008 Presidential race will be the ugly death of American journalism and its unapologetic re-birth as a left wing propaganda vehicle. This stench will last much longer than the historical smudge that will be Obama's Presidency
… a few years ago this guy would have been getting us coffee.
Do you morons really think that BO would have been their slave???
No…
He meant BO would have only been their intern.
I never though that I would have to defend something Clinton said!
Omission and suppression are the primary method of biasing the news.
IMO, it's not WHAT Harry said, but the fact that it was an issue to begin with.
A friend of mine on FB summed it up quite well, "When you're not racist, its not an issue. Its the racists that make it an issue"
Do you know how thrilling AND chilling it is to be reading Atlas Shrugged, for the first time? I'm on page 851 right now. Incredible book.
It's just too esoteric for most tastes and most won't find railroads, steel, copper, and oil very interesting…Sigh…
must be racist……………. just ask obozo
Keep it up! This is an awesome book. Yeah, stylistically it is a little strange, but it made me stop reading many times to contemplate what I had just read. I studied Constitutional Law along with dabbling in ideologies and psychology when I was at the State Institute for Leftist Indoctrination (I escaped and have the papers to prove it!) and a lot of it still blew my mind! Read her non-fiction essays when you have had time to absorb Atlas. Check out "We the Living" as well, it will give you a sense of horror about the everyday lives of people after the Russian revolution. I'll give you $5 if you can read "This is John Galt speaking…" all the way through, no stopping even to pee. You won't be able to, a mind bender!
I recommend this stuff so often I need to find a way to get paid for it!
Enjoy!
The Bob Parks Smell Test is working fine.
Business at Clinton, LLC has never been better. How Hillary isn't one of the biggest conflicts-of-interest as she trots the globe is a mystery.
Somehow America loves to ignore how crooked.
Glad you enjoyed Atlas. As you might guess, I am a huge fan. I recommend all of her fiction and any of the non-fiction I have read. All very insightful.
Ditto your sentiments re: Clancy and Animal Farm. Anthem by Rand is kind of like 1984 at an advanced(?) stage (advanced as in illness, I guess). Also check out Vince Flynn, good stuff in a similar vein to Clancy, though Mitch Rapp is more like John Clark than Ryan.
"For the New Intellectual" is a great "Cliff's Notes" for Rand fiction and will have many of your favorite passages separated into a small handy reference, including F d'A on Money. great stuff!
I enjoyed it. Yeah, it might have greater appeal if someone could adapt it to a more modern sense of our economy, but the absence of such a book is probably a strong indicator of how difficult it would be to pull off.
Thanks for beating me to the Clint pic! My favorite actor of all time. He had a few I'm sure he wishes he could take back, but some will live forever…
There are many "Clint" pics on the Net…(You can be the one from GranTorino)…But there can be only one HighPlainsDrifter, the Mitch Rapp of the High Plains…One of his best movies…. the moral and the story line fit my "world view"….
I'll check out Aynn Rand's other offerings after I finish "Atlas"…It's dated but really fits nicely in these trying times…Drifter out…
Drifter,
Haven't read the new V.F., guess I'll do the "library" option based on your review.
"Dated" but "fits nicely"? You said it brother, that's the point. Truth is timeless.
I'm way too young for Gran Torino, thanks. My wolf is in defense mode BTW, since they are only nasty killers when threatened or hungry. You must admit, it is a nice "doggie" though, eh?
Read a lot of your posts. Good stuff, keep it going.
Hope you agree that Sondra Locke is(was?) a cute "Clint" babe.
I was just funnin' with ya with the GranTotino crack…Sondra Locke is OK but not my taste, but Clint did marry her…….Here on the range we go for the more ethnic style females in the mode of say Angie Jolie or Hiawatha …Got me??
Thanks for reading my posts….I read yours, d;AnociaCopper, CowboyLogic and a few others consistently…And I ALWAYS give a ThumbsUp to kindred spirits…The few libs on here hammer us with ThumbsDown, so the points add sloooowly……Good weekend to all…UCLA B-ball tomorrow vs USC…It's an all day thing with us…HPD…Out
What no one has mentioned yet, of the several conservative blogs I follow, is the timing of releasing this book itself. By releasing it now, at the beginning of the year, all of the Liberal/Democrat dirting laundry gets aired well before the Midterm Elections heat up later this year.
Politics turns on a dime, and the timing of this negative information would have been much different if it had been released later in the year. Seems like the authors threw this book together ASAP in order to get it published and released at a time when the heat of the controversy would be well over by the time the midterms were picking up steam. Just another disgusting example of liberal media bias, and how they attempt to "manage" the news in such a way as to minimize damage to the party they support.
Is there anything in there about Obama? I haven't heard anything.
The primary thing I have noticed is that every one of these disclosures casts an unflattering light on the people that might be running against Barak Obama in the 2012 election.
There doesn't seem to be any of the same disclosures about the Obama campaign.
But I'm sure that Obama's amazing abilities let him run a campaign with no gaffes or embarrassing statements.

Animation is upright like any other TV shows having all forms of the genre. Verve also delves into action, comedy, story and even sexuality. The latter being a controversial kind is uniquely classified as “hentai.” Surely, pornography has a new semblance in animations. Magazines, computer games, anime TV series and movies now have their relevant sexually explicit twists. This classification of spiritedness caters to the needs of the older viewers as more adults become satisfied fantasizing with sensual themes, anime-style. The reason behind the use of coupling in anime is that it is the only medium that can showcase some sexual fantasies that are too unworkable forreal people to carry out like the use of peculiar fetishes or the application of harsh violence in natural animation format. Certain concepts that are too good to be true and are often widely considered taboo in the world can now become the main focus of animation, without passing through all paramount controversies that may be brought upon by real life like films. Accessing hentai sites are usually done with payment, although there are still lots of video on demand and streaming domains that offer them altogether free of charge to users. If the latter happens then one can immediately indulge in different sexual fantasies may it be lesbian, gay or straight. Moreover, recreation can also be present in hentai as you clock these dirty animations that are adapting the very storyline and perceptible characters from the original hit anime TV shows. The easiest way to watch Hentai Online is by visiting a free site like One Piece Hentai – Nami and signup with their sponsors as soon as you decide you want to watch something more specific. For a trivial one time investment you will have access to live sports, satiated episodes, movies, rumours, weather and much more.
