Rep. Ron Paul, the presumptive frontrunner of the Iowa caucuses, has come under fire again for racist material that appeared in a series of newsletters, written he says by someone else and published under his name nearly two decades ago. Paul has disavowed the letters’ content repeatedly in numerous interviews.
The newsletters’ racially incendiary content were first made public by James Kirchick, a pro-war, neoconservative writer critical of Rep. Paul’s anti-war, libertarian politics. Kirchick has collected some of Paul’s newsletters over at The New Republic and wrote about them in run up to the 2008 election. Paul disavowed those remarks in January 2008 when they surfaced again on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, but CNN and Blitzer are back again now.
CNN had this exchange with Paul earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama’s ties to the Reverend Jeremiah Wright are a non-issue again this election year. Why? Reverend Wright was named among the Simon Wisenthal Center’s top ten anti-Semites of the year this week. “The state of Israel is an illegal, genocidal place… to equate Judaism with the state of Israel is to equate Christianity with [rapper] Flavor Flav,” Wright told a Baltimore audience in June of this year. But don’t expect to get any questions for Obama from the media about Wright being named to that infamous list.
Don’t expect Obama to have to talk about Wright at all. As I have written elsewhere, in depth, Obama’s pastor for 20 years preached anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, advocated bizarre pseudo-scientific racial ideas, opposed interracial marriage, praised communist dictatorships, denounced black “assimilation,” and taught Afrocentric feel-good nonsense to schoolchildren. Obama’s pastor actually believes that HIV/AIDS was created by the American government to kill black people. He recommends books written by, and for, anti-Semites.
If Ron Paul’s disavowed newsletters are fair game then Barack Obama’s best-selling books ought to be fair game as well. Try, for example, this one.
“It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks’ greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere…That’s the world! On which hope sits!” (Dreams for My Father, 293).
Unlike Paul, who can credibly claim he never said anything racist, Obama can’t. You can listen to him say those awful words about white people in his audio-book.
Similarly, Obama’s past has been unexplored, especially his romantic past. On page 211 of Dreams From My Father, Obama explained how he broke up with a white girl he was dating because “she couldn’t be black.” I’d like to know her side of the story. Wouldn’t you?
Or how about Vera Baker’s? Ms. Baker was a fundraiser for the Obama for Senate 2004 campaign. She was rumored to have hooked up with Barack Obama in a hotel room in May 2004. The National Enquirer has launched an active investigation and Baker is said to be living in Martinique. She has retained counsel, ostensibly to help field the press inquiries. Critics may scoff at the National Enquirer, but they did expose the John Edwards scandal and critics may scoff at rumors but rumors felled the campaign of Herman Cain.
We need a media that is willing to take a hard look at all of the candidates again, not just the ones they helped to elect.

Jeremiah Wright….that would be the Trinity United Church of Hating on Whitey wouldn't it?
Jeremiah right is only a non-issue if we make it a non-issue. Who cares about the MSM?
You can talk about double standard all you want but this is a game breaker for Paul.
We need a new batch of candidates.
One thing you can bet on – - – Barack Hussein Obama has one h _ _ _ of a lot of people snookered. Furthur, why do not Pub leaders pursue the truth about Obama?
How the MSM refuses to truly cover their candidate will lead to their downfall. If we can keep the government from "controlling for our own good" the internet, they will be 100% irrelevant in as little as 5 years (please God!) or 10 years when getting TV signals from any source other than the Internet will seem quaint. They will have to change or perish.
Then, hopefully, folks will be better informed about the racist progressives.
Paul disavowed those remarks in January 2008 when they surfaced again on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, but CNN and Blitzer are back again now.

I recall Obama disavowing Wright and resigning from his congregation after a remarkably disasterous NPR conference Wright held.
A politician apologizing after he has been caught ('I'm sorry you noticed that') doesn't necessarily cause people to forgive and forget.
Now come on, this would require “journalist” to vet the boy king, not a chance. Then there are the geldings over at the RNC, please. No, if these things are going to get discussed, is where We The People come in, it’s time to fix the mistake of ’08!
typically…Rev Wright likes him some white wimminz too! He talks black….but he sleeps white…..
a deep analysis of wrights material will effectively destroy obama…you dont spend 20 years listening to that trash and not have a deep underlying commonality in your personal beliefs…
obama is set on destroying white society…this is the end of the agenda…nothing he has done benefits white society…his prejudist acts speak louder than the flapping lips can lie….
Here is the best summary I have seen of what happened during Obama's campaign, and his term as President:

This Website allows Blacks to be Racist at will, and then condemns, by the Deletion of Posts, anyone who points out that Blacks can indeed be Racist, so, what is a Poster here to make of your Article… Entrapment?
No, Jeremiah Wright is a non-issue. Period.
He's kind of like Herman Cain in that regard.
"We need a media that is willing to take a hard look at all of the candidates again…" They will. As long as they are running against Barack Hussein Obama.
Oh yes? Please cite examples of how Hermain Cain has repeatedly expressed his disdain for white people, and wishes for G-d to damn America.
Well what do you know…you say he isn't an issue…but he still is!
Wow. That's a hell of a thing.
CNN and all the alphabet networks practice "selective outrage"
but herman cain doesnt talk about opposition to interracial marriage either….
Excellent point. Sadly, with the fifth column fourth estate reliably in the left corner, even a Klansman can be a democrat congresscritter.
I'm not a Ronulan by any means, though, but I would count as more damning, sitting for 20 years in the pews of a church that preached racial hatred, than what Paul is alleged to have done. Still, it's a matter of degree, and I don't think either one has a place as leader of a diverse nation, such as ours.
nothing new with media one sided reporting…just the norm for the asshat media
he is going to surge even higher because of these attacks. The entire nation knows how the msm works.
Everyone know that once our dem & republican actor finish their show for the day the go and celebrate their exploits of the American people together.
JUST LIKE PR0 WRESTLING.
Hmm. There's that, too. Good point!
“The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims.
Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence, not skin color, gender, or ethnicity. In a free market, businesses that discriminate lose customers, goodwill, and valuable employees- while rational businesses flourish by choosing the most qualified employees and selling to all willing buyers. More importantly, in a free society every citizen gains a sense of himself as an individual, rather than developing a group or victim mentality.
This leads to a sense of individual responsibility and personal pride, making skin color irrelevant. Rather than looking to government to correct what is essentially a sin of the heart, we should understand that reducing racism requires a shift from group thinking to an emphasis on individualism.”

We know why cnn would push one racist agenda and carry water for another.

RON PAUL 2012
Oh look, the eastern Canadian welfare scumbag is trying to think
Anyone who believes that the only racist problem Paul has are those newsletters is seriously deluded. It's not a coincidence that so many of Paul's supporters are conspiracy kooks and anti-Semites. A quick Google search will turn up numerous examples of Paul sidling up to racists for support of his ideas or campaign. You'll never find him distancing himself from these idiots, or telling them he doesn't want their money. It's not something he worries about. That should worry a lot of people, but instead they just make excuses. Which is what you do when you belong to a cult….
affirmative(action).
The Obama administration has become the most racist in memory. Eric Holder is a good example. The DOJ refuses to investigate the New Black Panthers because they are black.
"You'll never find him distancing himself from these idiots, or telling them he doesn't want their money."
Except here he is doing just that. Oops. Don't just make s**t up like a lib.
The "most uniting" President in the history of United States happens to be the most divisive.
No, he is SAYING that he doesn't want white supremacists' money. He's not turning it down, he's not telling any particular group that he doesn't represent them, and he's not distancing himself from any individuals he works with who are conspiracy kooks or racists.
Obama says he's a Moderate who wants to make things fair for everyone. Does that mean it's the truth too? Maybe you shouldn't believe everything you're told. It makes you sound gullible.
he says he does not represent white power–racialist interests if they send in the money it is their loss because it is going to liberty. He is actually doing a service defunding these groups.
If Cains, Newts, Pauls and Mitts pasts are issues, then so is candidate Barrys past [and present resume` too].
And Barack Obama says he is for the Middle-class family and that he's not in favor of government over-reach. So I guess Ron Paul fans are saying we are supposed to believe everything politician's say, despite the reality of their lives.
Racist we much.
Don't believe what anyone Says look at the facts of the matter and the record of their actions.
Their actions speak for themselves.

RESTORE AMERICA NOW
RON PAUL 2012
Trying to cover up Obama's ~20 history of Marxist, Anti-Semitic, Anti-Ameircan, Racist indoctrination by the infamous orator Jeremiah Wright?
Unfortunately you may be right, at least for the Iowa caucuses.
Makes one wonder if the infamous Rev. Wright is on the "down-low".
Didn't realize you were a Paulistinian.
The MSM won't investigate Rev. Wright? In other news, water is wet.
Excellent link, NYR! Highly recommended!
)
And a very Merry Christmas as well! (if one can have one after reading the AT piece
I want to understand something here.
Ron Paul is a racist because despicable things went out under his name 15 to 20 years ago that he utterly repudiates now and because racists sent money to his campaign, even though Ron Paul himself never made racist remarks nor contributed money to any racist organization.
However, Barack Obama is not a racist even though he has made racist statements himself and has contributed money to one of most racist ministers in America.
I can't wait to hear what people say about Gingrich voting against making Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday and why Romney belongs to a religion that believed that blacks bore the "mark of Cain" up until 1978 when a latter day prophet received the word from God that the mark of Cain had expired.
Neither man has ever actually made a blatantly racist remark, nor ever gave money to a racist organization but I suspect that they will be held to the Ron Paul standard, not the Barack Obama standard.
Right, let's look at the facts of the matter and the record of his actions.
Ron Paul publishes racist material under his byline and profits from it.
When he first ran for Congress again he promoted his newsletters.
When challenged on them he said the material was taken out of context.
He later said he never knew anything about them.
When it comes to money from racist organizations and individuals he has declared he will take it and use it.
When it comes to avoiding such people at events, he doesn't.
When it comes to avoiding the media asking about such contacts, he does.
So what we have is a person with a history of profiting from racist incitement who wants to claim plausible deniability and refuses to address the issue beyond that.
THAT is what the facts and the record says.
dont ever use the word chimps it really gets them upset??
just trying to prove a point unbiased my ass.
No, period at all. Jeremiah Wright IS an issue because he represents the Obama's families faith/core values, the ones he's pushing on ALL American's, black, white and yellow. The values he tells the world in speeches that are the core to America. Wright's church is hateful and selfish and judges ALL white people the same, but he needs to look in the mirror at his own image. Isn't it Wright who sits in the 5 million home in the middle of a white neighborhood. Look, it is not the white man who holds anyone back; it is their own personal drive to success that makes them or not.
With that logic, then Newt Gingrich should surge, at least he's not a bigot/racist like Paul. Wasn't his son accused of the same thing while running for his senate seat?
What about his mothers views, or his grandparents? What about Obama's crack problem in college?
Have you ever noticed that ALL the commentators on those programs have noses that have been broken, ever wonder why?
This whole comment is insane. African American's would still have a difficult time in your stated system. Read the achievement test score internationally and you will see the deeper problems.
I'm Jewish (by blood not by faith) and if the President seeks spirtiual council from a couple of rabod antisemites like Wright and Farrakhan, YOU BET YOUR ASS IT'S AN ISSUE
No, Ron Paul's signature is on the bottom of most of the newsletters, so either someone was signing under his name without his knowledge or he's a liar, we already know he's a hypocrite. He votes no on bills, so he can keep his libertarian record, but he sure bellies up for the ear marks within the very bills he opposes, that's the ultimate hypocrisy as far as I'm concerned. But I have to say he plays the cute old man role perfectly. And he does tend to run away when he's cornered in his hypocrisy, just like Barack Hussein Obama.
Actually YBC, Obama initially gave a sob speech about how he couldn't "disavow Rev Wright any more than the black church itself" (that statement in of itself inidicates a warped mind) in the aftermath of "GOD DAMN AMERICA" hitting Youtube. But after Hillary kicked his ass in a couple primaries, he changed his tune and acted as if he somehow didn't know Wright was like that after 20 years of listening to his sermons and quoting him in his autobiography. So in addition to be a terrible President, Obama's also a lousy friend and inattentive (according to him anyway) churchgoer.
I really don't care IF Newt Gingrich voted against making MLK a national holiday. Can you cite the reason's why they voted against the national holiday? But you do need to get your facts right.
"Most Republicans in the House voted for the holiday (89 voted for the holiday, 77 opposed), though all three Arizona House Republicans were opposed. Reps. Dick Cheney, R-Wyoming, and Newt Gingrich, R-Georgia, voted for the holiday. (Cheney had voted against it in 1978.)"
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2008/04/the-...
Even Wikipedia confirms his support for the National Holiday
In 1981………………….[21] Gingrich supported a proposal to ban loans from the International Monetary Fund to Communist countries and he endorsed a bill to make Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a national holiday.

"The newsletters’ racially incendiary content were first made public by James Kirchick, a pro-war, neoconservative writer critical of Rep. Paul’s anti-war, libertarian politics."
Incorrect, and a deliberate attempt to blur the story by impugning the motives of those who found it.
The contents of the Paul newsletters were first written about by Reason, the leading libertarian magazine. The New Republic picked up the story later.
Kind of disrupts that whole "neocons out to get Paul" narrative, doesn't it.
Newt is more than a hypocrite, he's bald faced liar. He was a huge, if the the hugest, supporter of man-made global warming. Now, he acts like he's barely heard of it and boldly claims that we don't know enough to decide if mankind is causing the earth's temperature to rise but his newest book has been delayed until after the election because his climate adviser is Katharine Hayhoe a noted climate "warmist".
He wants power, just like Obama, and will say anything (and has) to get elected. He said that sitting on the sofa with Pelosi was the dumbest thing he ever did. He wishes that were true. He has backed every dumb "big idea" from Cap and Trade to impeaching judges with whom he disagrees.
The only time that jerk will ever be the "smartest guy in the room" is when the Republicans wise up and lock him in a closet.
He claims that he "balanced the budget". What a crock! The first three Republican budgets had bigger increases than the last three Democratic budgets. Neither Clinton nor Gingrich balanced the budgets, the American people increased their productivity faster than the politicians could spend the extra cash. Not a single budget during Gingrich's reign was ever smaller than the previous budget.
America busts its collective butts to produce a surplus and the great prevaricator and his Republican accomplice rush to claim credit. Now the accomplice wants to be the new great prevaricator? Ha!
No, it only shows that the neocons aren't smart enough to find these things themselves. Reason has excellent researchers dedicated to facts and if those facts skewer Ron Paul, so be it.
This smear job most recently was dredged up by Reuters, which is majority-owned by an English "noble" (Baron Thomson of Fleet) and family.
Isn't thinking you and your progeny are entitled to special privileges because of your blood (and that other people are inferior) the same concept as racism?
Hiv/Aids wasn't designed to kill Blacks. Planned Parenthood was.
Good article.
I didn't read the Podhoretz piece Patterson references, but I think I have to take issue with a point Patterson makes; that Affirmative Action throws unqualified blacks into Ivy League schools, resulting in high dropout rates.
Not that it isn't true – it most certanly is. But I think the more salient point is the one Obama – and his wife – exemplify, and to which Patterson himself alluded in his piece. Both of them benefitted from a culture of lowered expectations of academic performance at Harvard (and likely at their other schools) in furtherance of the goals of Aff. Action).
We already know this for a fact wrt Obama's academic career, despite the lack of grades, or any scholarly output (and the very telling fact that he is damned by faint praise all through his academic career, and even now we have no former classmates – or professors – coming forward to regale us with tales of his academic prowess).
But Michelle's academic history is no more impressive. In fact, we actually have her masters thesis to wonder at – a high-school-level (at best) screed about how hard it is for a black girl to blah, blah, blah, blah…
So, yeah. I'm sure a high number of blacks flunk out after being accepted to college based on their skin color. But the Obama family are proof that sometimes, the freebies just keep on coming, and the kind of monster this racist condescension creates.
Only if he bothers to register to be on the ballot.
It's not just Perry, Bachmann, Huntsman, and Santorum who won't be on the Virginia ballot on Super Tuesday.
Re: Rand Paul and the cooked up racism of Rachel Maddow.
Here in KY we don't pay much attention to screechers like Rachel. I won't say Rand was swept into office. Establishment Republicans strongly promoted the Establishment Crony Politician. But I think I can say Rand handily won the election irregardless of the attacks from the loony party and to some extent the wishes of his own Party.
Don't give Paul-bots any more ammo. When he finally steps out of the way I can just imagine how many times we will have to hear "Hey would have been the nominee if it were not for the MSM!" Let's get real, the old coot is unelectable for any office other than the one he now holds.
This article is an odd thing. A comment notes the newletters were picked up by Reason first- which is how I understand the sequence. Some comments note the anti-semitic vein in the Paul/libertarian org and I can attest to this troubling vein to the group. I was at a party with the former Lib party prez candidate Badnarik and heard plenty of Jewish banker conspiracy stories. And lastly, this putting Wright/newsletter points side by side- are we being asked to choose 'our' anti-semite over theirs? For me Paul stance on Iran is enuf to not support him & Obama's stance on everything else lead to my support for the any Repub ham sandwich.
