I’ve discussed this topic a lot all across the country, the wave of women, of mothers in political activism.
Why have so many mothers become so active?
Because motherhood is political.
I have two sons. One day they may hear the call of duty and enlist to fight for our liberty. One day they may be called upon to defend America’s shores. They may decide to enter business or take up a trade. They may decide to have families of their own someday. I want them to have every opportunity available to them and I will stand against that which impedes on their rights. It’s instinctual: my job as a mother is to raise up, nurture, and protect my children, to protect their interests, to protect the interests of my family. In a society where my first line of defense, my husband, has been compromised by the self-victimization of the female sex, I’ve volunteered to go to the front lines of this ideological battle and I do it for my children. I’m not the only one.
It’s unconscionable to me that I would protect my children from running out into a busy street but not protect their right to be free. A month after my oldest was born my husband and I spent an entire morning baby-proofing our house: placing plastic covers on all empty wall sockets, installing cabinet latches, covering all the sharp edges of the tables with adhesive cushions. Why wouldn’t I also rise to install barriers against that which harms my children’s future? We armed our children with the knowledge against “stranger danger,” we taught them how to dial 911 in emergencies, we’ve taught them how to properly handle and not handle firearms. Why wouldn’t I teach my children about their fundamental rights as an American? Their right to free speech, to assemble, the freedom of the press, the freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, the freedom of religion? Their right to pursue happiness but not the expectation that they are owed happiness from their fellow man?
We take them to the pediatrician to have them immunized, to inoculate them against disease. Why wouldn’t I also build up their knowledge of the Constitution, their confidence, and their courage so as to inoculate them against the ongoing campaign to break them down and render them dependent upon a swelling government?
Every Sunday morning we’re in the church pew and our children learn about the grace and love of their Creator. They’ve also been taught that their rights are inalienable, that these rights come from God, and though man tries he cannot co-opt those rights.They are taught that while our country was built on the Christian principles of freedom, one isn’t forced to subscribe to the faith to enjoy the rights born of it.
The nurture and protection of your children isn’t limited to monitoring their dietary needs, their educational needs, their emotional and spiritual well-being. I speak out because I don’t want my children saddled with debt. I don’t want my children’s generation to be the first generation that comes out of the gate with a lower standard of living because of our recklessness. I don’t want my children’s future squandered on entitlement and things non-essential to the operation of our basic Article 1 Section 8 government. I don’t want my children robbed of their ability to have effect in their communities because the power was sucked up and centralized at the federal level. I don’t want them to be demonized because they reject the socialist and humanist ideology which preaches against self-sufficiency and criminalizes faith and ambition in popular culture.
This is why mothers have been politically active these past few years and why more and more they are strapping the baby in the carrier before grabbing a diaper bag and a bullhorn on their way out the door. If you saw danger coming headfirst at your children you would intervene. Danger assumes many forms.
We’ve taken position against the reckless spending of our children’s future, against the many attempts by the establishment government to assume more parental rights and position our children as wards of the state in education, medicine, faith, diet, and wage. We reject the ideal that the government can be all and provide all because no government can be all, provide all and still reflect a free people. We reject the cultural vehicles through which this ideology is distributed: through the attack on men via feminism, through the cultural criminalization of our boys, and through the false empowerment via promiscuity and self-victimization of our daughters.
This is why motherhood is political. This is why mothers are turning out in force to protest, to petition, to run for office. Our instincts detected a threat to the well-being of their children and we are working to right it.
Old sayings never fail. The most dangerous place in the world is between a mother and her children. It remains true today.
And Happy Mother’s Day to my mother, who didn’t raise a victim.

Excellent article, Dana ….SO True. Saw on Nightline (2 days ago) that the estimated "Valued" income of a mother of 2 is approx. $62,000 just for her "domestic care". Funny how the NOW Gals didn't bother to support the "Stay at Home Mom". Nah …they upbraided them instead. Gosh – and look at where we were 3-4 years ago. But the tide has been changing for the better. Happy Mother's Day !

Anyone doubting the importance of Motherhood as it relates to politics has missed a good portion of our Nations history, going back to Martha Washington and Abagail Adams.
Women have a habit of cutting to the quick and understanding the core issues, while men tend to get bogged down with the minutiae.

Victimology is but one more perverted tenet of the progressive mind-set. Create victims rather than strong self sufficient people. It is never the fault of anyone for anything according to this insideous tenet, if you can't get a job its not your fault that you didn't prepare yourself for life with an education comenserate to the job you seek,its the evil business people. Its not your fault that you didn't pay attention in school it was your rotten teachers. The message is clear, mother don't let your children grow up to be victims, teach them that there is no such thing as gray areas, it either right or wrong, good or bad, truth or lie. God bless the Mother Grizzly.
I am disgusted that it HAS to be up to the mothers to do this – that men have been so neutered, have allowed themselves to be so neutered, have allowed the left to create all this victimhood so straight white Christian males are dismissed out of hand when they speak. But I will without reservation support a Michelle Bachman or Sarah Palin for President, and Sharon Angle or any other woman who stands tall for freedom. This is our common fight, to restore a respect for freedom and the dignity of the individual.

If someone was actually using his name, "his image" and his "credentials" without his permission there would be "potential" legal repercussions for doing so. I'm 100% certain that Dana or Mike would have already acted on that information and simply banned them from posting on all of the Bigs.

When I realized how Obama & Co., along with the MSM and a lot of our Universities, are actively trying to put a wedge between my children and me, I was really angry. Look at how many times during the last presidential race Obama went to our Universities for votes. He is doing it again for 2012 and the GOP needs to take it seriously!
One of my biggest concerns right now, is if the GOP can pick a candidate to run against Obama, that our young people can relate to and get behind.
As a parent of 2 college age kids, I am going to do everything I can to see that Obama does not have another 4 years to divide our families, and our country any further.
Because their NESTS are in danger…democrats betray us all…

Through great sacrifice, and at great expense, someone important to me me is going to school to study law at one of the most prestigious schools in the country. Take it from someone who never finished high school, this is important.

I lost my beloved mom in August… and not a day goes by when I don't have the urge to pick up the phone and call her. And my wife's three daughters, for reasons known only to them, have broken off all contact with her, which, of course, is heartbreaking to my wonderful wife.
Lessons in all this: Cherish your mom. Love your mom. Don't ever take her for granted. There is nothing stronger in this world than the love a mother has for her child. Happy Mothers Day, Mom. I love you, and I miss you more than I can tell you.

this week, where i live we have two extremely new moms on my block, both of them gave birth to thier very first child, and both of them happened to have beautiful little angels, jordan and grace. i am so glad both of thier parents are republicans, so the "choice" of murdering thier infants while defenselessly awaiting thier birth never even passed thier minds. also, if you happen to take in a baseball game today, remember to write and complain to anybody associated with major league baseball about thier massive fundraising today for planned parenthhod, i mean komen for the cure. since we now know 1: the largest single donations from komen go to planned parenthood, and 2: planned parenthood we now know gives a rats ass about women's cancer screenings.

Right on, Dana, as usual! As a father, I feel the same sense of danger from pervasive political correctness, secular relativism and the subtle losses of freedom that happen virtually everyday with the Marxist, socialist agenda of the Obama administration.

My two oldest are 15 and 12, and I am preparing them now for what they will face in college. We are from a conservative area, and they go to private school, but they will be in a far different atmosphere when they go off to school. I hear terrible stories from my friends who have kids in college now.

This is so well said. I felt so lucky that I had daughters that would not have to go into military service. Until my oldest declared she would, and then became, a US Marine. And THEN, my younger daughter did the same. I can't tell you how proud and humble it makes me to talk to my two strong women children who have done so much to make me proud. I always felt like a strong "Mama Grizzlie" myself, but when I think of my older daughter and her husband (both Corporals) being deployed and having to leave behind their young baby… I am in awe. When I think of my younger daughter going from a fairly quiet high school to Japan (DURING the tsunami)… and on from there- I am again, in awe. God Bless our troops and all of their mothers.

I feel your pain. I actually found myself last month suggesting a possible gap year for my daughter instead of transferring to University of Washington. Along with lib mentality, UW is raising tuition 19% for fall quarter! A state school ripping us off.
You have a leg up because you have a few years to prepare them. The next couple years are going to be really important. Not only will all the budget stuff have to be dealt with, but the lib curriculum is starting to be questioned as well. Hopefully by the time your oldest gets to college, there will be an overall awareness that was not there before.
