The American Spectator does a nice job of deconstructing this ridiculous piece from a progressive blogger over at the Progressive Christian Alliance. The gist of the piece is this: Jesus was an illegal immigrant baby, thus if you are against illegal immigration, you are against Jesus and the entire story of the nativity is one big political story.
Faith dictates that churches offer their ministry and message of redemption, embodied in the Nativity story, to all people, including illegal immigrants. But there is no covert message within the Christmas narrative offering specific policy guidance on U.S. immigration law. The temptation to extract politics out of the Nativity account should be resisted. Perhaps the most infamous example was the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s 1992 Democratic Convention speech comparing Vice President Dan Quayle to murderous King Herod. The birth of Baby Jesus was significant enough by itself that it needs no political sloganeering to amplify its importance.
This religious outfit dilutes God’s word with its hippified humanism. Their “about” section reads like a vague intro to a self-help book. The emphasis is based on inclusion (Jesus Himself said He did not come to bring peace, but a sword Matthew 10:34) and accepting people as they are, regardless whether or not God’s law is followed. They are situational Christians: they love the Bible when they think they can cherry pick the Word and support leftist beliefs but are suspiciously silent on Scripture where it concerns life, marriage, law, and worship.
The Bible is quite clear on following the law where it does not conflict with faith:
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. - Romans 13:1-3
If you’re going to condescend to preach to the flock, you must preach all the Bible for consistency, as even the Devil can quote Scripture. A warning from Scripture to these so-called “progressive Christians” and their perversion of His Word:
Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
- Matthew 5:19
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
- 1 John 2:3-6
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
- John 14:23-24
Yes indeed, we will know them by their fruits.

@ editor– Why must we get relevant news from over seas? Fortunately DRUDGE linked this. I understand that not every video is news, however this site was first to pump out this deceptive edit video earlier earlier this week. Having ran the "irked walk off headline" you are obligated to set the record straight.
The full video is here. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2078343/R...
Andrew's run in with deceptive edit accusations causes those of US who come to the site & click the advertising to wonder what if there isn't some old media bias permeating the BIGS…
MANY A THUMB DOWN NOT ONE VOCAL DEFENSE OF NAKED AGENDA….
First, stop calling them progressives. They want to take us back to 1917 (Bolshevik revolution) – how is that progress? They're leftists, pure and simple. If you let them win on language usage, the debate is dead and conservatives lost.
Second, Jesus wasn't an illegal alien baby. He was the son of Joseph who was a citizen of the area. Thus Jesus was a citizen. And Mary was a citizen since she was married to Joseph. None of them were illegal aliens. Leftists hate the idea of Marriage so they don't want to deal with the issues of citizenship and marriage, so that part of the analysis was purposely left out by the leftists.
Jesus wasn't an "illegal immigrant baby". He and his parents-to-be were returning to their ancestral lands to be counted for the census. It's be nice if all the illegals here would go back to THEIR countries for a census. Instead, we just counted them here.
Outstanding article Dana! Thank you for helping to expose these frauds and illuminating the truth of the Gospel.
BeeKaay,
You forget… According to the first Queen of America, 'The King of America knows, we need to move to a different place; we need to rewrite our history'.
But I'm with you. The only people who need to move to a different place is the Obamas, and my preference is that they should move back to Kenya.
There's nothing "progressive" from these commie regressive libtards. It's an oxymoron to refer to these idiots with such a word.
Yep,
Commies don't care about facts, they just spew whatever regressive stories that fit their narrative.
The 'net is so great! I keep finding little nodes of time warp and devolution.
This constitutes "intense debate?" commie regressive libtard fraud leftist Bolshevik idiots
This is "journalism?" This is the current Christian vocabulary and ethos?
Face it folks, Jesus was a hippie. In the whole blessed story, he's the one who articulated an ethic that holds true through today. He's the one who befriended outcasts, he's the one who forgave. All of the rest of this stuff today is used as fodder by reactionaries in their efforts to retain control of the message.
Having seen the bumper sticker that said "Jesus was community organizer and Pontious Pilate was a Governor I am not surprised.
I would not call Jesus a hippie-He was the Son of God who came here for one reason. To offer himself up as the perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of those that believe in Him. He did not preach against the Roman government but asked us to follow the laws of the government He placed over us. We are called to follow these laws unless the conflict with the moral law that He established. Some of those are the 10 commandments
That's the main trouble with progressiveism and liberalism. That whole pholosophy is based on taking from something else because they can't create even their own phoilosophy without borrowing from someplace else. To support their beliefs they must borrow and twist someone else's beliefs. To support their centrally planned governments they must take the fruits of other's labors. Dana is correct: they use the Bible only to cherry pick what supports their destructive plans, and they have to twist the meaning of the words to accomplish even that.
The Old Testament where you seem to be deriving your beliefs on marriage, law, and worship were never intended to be part of the Christian religion. Jesus was here to overthrow and replace the Old Testament God Yahweh and establish a new order. The Old Testament only became a part of the Christian belief system because of the politics of the day.
No moron liberals dont want to take us back to the 1917 Bolshevick revolution as liberals are not communists and have no interest in a planned economy. Grow up. Progressivism(New Left) is not the Old hardline left no matter how many times you boneheads say otherwise.
Conservatives on the other hand actually want to take us back to 19th century economic conditions which included unregulated business and labor practices and a massive disparity in wealth. In other words back to the days of Laissez faire capitalism and robber barons. Thats what the Tea Party wants.
Sooooo, if Jesus was a hippie, then please name the Scriptures where he says:
–it's OK to get high.
–it's OK to have sex with whomever and whatever you want.
–it's OK to have abortions.
–it's OK to steal the fruit of others' labor.
Jesus was sent to die for our sins that we might be saved. Where do you get replacement of one god with another and establishing a new order? Both old and new testaments are the divinely inspired work of God – not some journalistic political compromise. Geeze…. what kind of drivel do you get from your pastor/minister/priest etc? Being self taught is admirable but seems like you're in need of a little fundamental guidance.
Wrong.
Robber Barron's ? People who do nothing, and demand things from people who have things.
You say "liberals…have no interest in a planned economy", but they propose using vast amounts of public funds to direct our energy, transportation, financial, even housing markets by use of government force. They stridenty claim that capitalism is the source of all evil – that it is greed, but yet, when liberals advocate what they want, the ONLY thing they are about is money, who has it, why they can't keep it, and why they (progressives) should be empowered to control it – and those who have and don't have money. Every tenet of Progressivism is about money and material wants – and an absence of personal responsibility for your future. Robber barons never existed while there was Capitalism. Robber barons derived their power from laws imposed over the land, resources, and commerce. They don't exist in a society of ownership and individual financial freedom.
Not only that, the "progressives" insist they need to control the important elements of your own life… Your employment, your health care, your food, your transportation, your energy use… Even your light bulbs, because they don't believe the average individual is both competent and concerned enough to do the correct thing. They don't believe people will make proper choices unless forced to do so, in almost every matter that matters. And then, they argue we must not judge anyone's beliefs or choices, about sex, marriage, drugs, and lifestyle. The hypocrisy is almost overwhelming. The freedom created by the Constitution prevents robber barons, prevents "corporations" from controlling anything except their own business, prevents the people from being ordered around by distant lords and masters who get rich off the sweat of their labors.
The TEA Party is all about personal responsibility. First, demanding our representatives cease indebting us, spending our substance wastefully, and then return control over our lives and futures to ourselves. We have seen where this program of centralized authority and control over our lives has destroyed the nation's wealth. And we want no more of it. You cannot even speak of what we want honestly, because it is in the gut of the vast majority of Americans, and if you speak to it and oppose it, you will lose in the arena of ideas.
"They are situational Christians"
And their situation demands action. It's a liberation theology outfit. The mission:
The Progressive Christian Alliance (PCA) was founded in May of 2008 after a series of conversations between Reverends Roger and Melissa McClellan from Alabama, Reverend Terry McGuire from Florida and Reverend Jarrod Cochran from Georgia, with the idea of blurring the lines between network and denomination and transcending both. With unique experiences in both the mainline protestant and evangelical churches these founders sought to create an organization that affirmed and respected those traditions and welcomed those diversities into fellowship within the PCA. Those original members established the foundational principles as:
Concern for Social Justice.
Respect for theological diversity.
Welcome for all to participate equally in the life of the church.
This group is 3 years old and the 'movement' itself is less than 40. Jim Jones is the movement's Elvis. The Vatican sniffed them out long ago. Those they affiliate with aren't the result of a genuine grass-roots, traditional Christianity you'd find here or anywhere else in the world. Those people are too proud and principled to be of any use.
These outcasts invented their own 'Christian-based communites' or CEBs, as they call them. Their sole purpose is to trivialize the faith for maximum political advantage. What charitable work do they do for the poor? These churches are the creation of Western leftist intellectuals, using 'faith' as just another means. It's praxis, not practice.
Jesus is a willing sacrifice to the Old God of the Desert, Yahweh, whom if you read the old testament is an angry, petty, wrathful, vindictive entity who is replaced by Christ the God of love, forgiveness, and compassion, qualities the old god never had. I dont care if it's Star Wars, Joseph Campbell, or Greek myths where Chronos replaces Uranus who is then replaced by Zeus, the father always replaces the son. It's as old as time itself.
I dont have a pastor, minister, or priest. A quick study of comparative mythology and a little history of Christinan gnosticism will help you quickly figure all this out.
Please do some more research. Jesus came to fulfill the gospel, from the first book of the bible his birth was foretold. The bible is one continuous story, not two different stories. God does not change.
Did you ever notice people with feeble arguments, weak minds, or hidden agendas always have to resort to name calling or smears in order to try and make their point?
When it comes to progressivism, you are clueless, your remarks clearly indictae you are behaving as a sheep ….being led to slaughter…. all the while spewing the leftitst.lie…..".this time it will be diefferent"….propaganda….
And unfortunately for you….when all the globalist cetral banks call last call…your generation is going to get stuck with the tab….
This is why central planning never works, inovation and expansion are fueled by man's desire for profit and enrichment..it is imutable human nature…absent that you get just what is happening now….
History has shown that power in any government is inversely proportional to the liberties of the people…
Too bad you can't ask the well over one hundred million souls that have perished in the past century under the boot of the menace called socialism….
Christian gnosticism? You're referencing a near-extinct religious doctrine, one which was never even the dominant Christian belief, as the definitive authority on what Christ is?
Next you'll be citing The Da Vinci Code as a historical document.
The term "Progressive" is a contronym, i.e. word has the opposite meaning. If you doubt that, just read the hate filled bile that gets written by the "Big Reds" (ratings) about Conservatives/Libertarians. They call us racist, homophobic, sexist, willing to trample on the poor grifters.
We simply wish individuals to learn to fish for themselves and not to stand around DEMANDING the government GIVE them a fish. That we object to the government taking our taxes and giving it to the cowbirds in our society does not automatically make us 'mean and nasty'.
That great interview with the Occupy LA ditsy girl is proof of their complete inability to manage their own lives, she can only demand more handouts as is a Libtard's wont.
The progressive mantra has been since before the turn of the twentieth century to progress incrementally toward a socialist state….
The immense damage that has been done to this country through relentless progressive government growth from both sides of the aisle over the past one hundred years needs to be undone….
Hi. Merry Christmas. I'm sorry, I had a completely different notion of what it means to be a “hippie.” The right to love whomever you choose; the right to explore your own consciousness as the only “certainty” we can experience as sentient beings; the right to require authority to be accountable for the things they do and the things they tell us we must do.Believe what you need to believe to get you through this life. If “The Scriptures” work for you, excellent. We could get into a discussion about whether we need to consult or rely on an outside authority in order to develop an “ethical” relationship with our fellow man and our institutions, but that wasn't my aim here, at this time.I just wanted to bring attention to the discrepancy between the implied claims on this site, and the sad reality. “Debate” is a process where opposing points of view are heard, analyzed, discussed, accepted, rebutted, refuted, proved or disproved ….What I see here is largely a bunch of name-calling by people who seem to believe reality is just a matter of opinion, and their opinions are correct for no reason other than that they hold them.
Merry Christmas to you as well. Yours is the second reply I've had, and I have to say I'm surprised (pleasantly) not to have been excoriated. There was a time when I felt that The Ten Commandments constituted a valid core for a personal code of morality, but when it came down to matching that up against my heart, I realized there was very little substance there for me. Beyond the threats of eternal damnation if we consider worshiping any other god, there seems to be a preoccupation with property rights. There is hardly any society that has thrived on this planet which has not derived similar “rules for living,” and the majority were able to do so without consulting old books or external authority. What I did take away is: 1) the fundamental rule from which I can derive an entire lexicon of proper (moral) responses to people and events in “the world,” and that is the Golden Rule, Jesus' basic message.2) “The Seven Deadly Sins” articulates perfectly, and rather thoroughly, the ego traps of earthly existence, and serves as a template for personal spiritual development along the road of life and into … whatever.
Disagree. Progress is movement towards a goal. There is a false impression that "progress" always means something good, as opposed to something bad like enslaving the populace to the State.
"Progressives" are doing their best to ensure the latter while hoping calling themselves "progressives" will fool people into thinking their goals are the former.
Jesus said "I am not here to abolish the Law but instead to fulfill it". Read Matthew 5:17
Your definition of "hippie" is inaccurate. People in the 60s counter-culture who identified themselves as "hippies" chose–and proudly displayed–behaviors such as ingesting drugs to get high, having indiscriminate sex, supporting the theft of the fruits of others' labor, committing acts of violence against those who stood in their way, and the murder of unborn children as a "reproductive right." They also claimed to "explore consciousness," peace and love and equality and stuff, but their narcissistic actions contradicted their words.
It is the hippie culture which gave birth to the permissive mentality that no one is responsible for his actions, that everyone creates his own reality, that law and ethics and morals are relative to the desire of the day, that discipline is cruelty and neglect is compassion, that everyone's a winner and life is fair.
You have based your assessment of Jesus Christ on your erroneous understanding of what a "hippie" is, and you condemn us for your own lack of knowledge. That's your problem, not ours.
Geez, try actually reading the Bible. Christ chastised the world for NOT following the law as spelled out in the Old Testament. Duh.
The Robber Barons of yesterday are the Solyndra and GM executives of today–corporate cronyism of the highest order.
LOL!
Watch out for them thar Opus Dei and Illuminati, they're gonna getcha!
I'm sorry you see me as “condemning” your beliefs. That's not what I was saying, I believe. You and I are debating a definition. My reaction was to the large number of people on this site who do not put forth any kind of argument to which a person can respond. If you look, you will see the difference between discussion and pure vituperation. As for our differing views on the hippie culture of the 60's, I will add a couple of things. I agree that the kind of permissiveness you describe is unhealthy to the spirit and to society. I also believe that we do create our own reality. All we “know,” all we experience through our senses, our inner feelings, are mediated by the brain. Our experience of life is essentially a manifestation of consciousness. These manifestations can be understood and learned from. They can also be manipulated. I've only gotten as far in my own explorations as having accepted that consciousness permeates the entire universe, and its nature is love. The other statements you utter in the second paragraph do not accord with my own experience in the 1960's, or anything I heard uttered by the people I met. If anything, our contemplations on ethics and morality were far more rigorous than anything society was offering at that time. The last two phrases in the second paragraph don't make any sense to me at all.You might want to also consider that we did not “make the rules.” Although the hippies made a lot of noise, it doesn't follow that they had any significant influence over society's values or laws. If you look back at history, “authority” was quick to respond whenever it felt that the status quo was being threatened. You might also want to look into exactly what happened to most of those hippies as they grew older. The values they live today, from owning Beemers to working as stock brokers, are the polar opposite of anything one might have promoted at a “love-in.”Nice talking to you. May your life be peaceful and joyous.
More pop theology. And people go to these quacks as if they're experts. This is where the "Jesus was a Socialist" meme comes from. I don't think there's anything more idiotic than that.
This is a political outfit first and foremost. They are just hanging their politics on a few out-of-context selections from the bible that they feel give them biblical authority. They're wrong.
I would love to see Dana put that brain of her on this…
What if the crazy Ron Paul actually beat Romney in Virginia? What would it mean for the primary race?
http://thebachmanncometh.blogspot.com/2011/12/wha...
So now Jesus is an illegal immigrant baby? I remember back years ago, when The Reverend Jesse Jackson was insisting that Mary and Joseph were homeless. Never mind the fact that they had a perfectly good home in Nazareth and that it was Big Government who was mandating that everyone had to go to his ancestral city to register and as a consequence there was no room for a pregnant woman except in a barn.
But we mustn't confound the progressives with facts.
This is not a hijacking, it is "re-education" which communists are all about.
Jesus was born, circumcised, lived, preached and died a Jew.
If it hadn't been for the "robber barons", much of America's most beautiful parklands would have been developed into housing tracts and shopping centers. Say, "Thank you, robber barons".
Interesting to hear that you're so evolved that the ten commandments have no substance for you.
(eye roll)
You may be interested to know that "the golden rule" as you call it, was the second-most important rule Jesus preached to us.
Let that sink in for a moment.
"Love thy neighbor as thyself", Jesus says, "is like unto" the greatest commandment, which is "Love thy God with all thy mind, all thy soul and all thy heart".
Unless this first rule is respected, the second is nearly impossible to achieve.
Thay is right, and there is no replacement of one God with another since God and Jesus are of one being.
When some Rabbis were challenging Jesus for healing someone on the sabbath, his response was, essentially, (and I paraphrase heavily) "do not get so wrapped up in rules that you forget mercy".
Rules may be in place for a reason, and oftentimes very good reasons. No one was to work on the sabbath because if some did, it would give them an unfair advantage economically. The sabbath was to be a rest day, when the body recuperated from labors and thoughts turned to God's providence. BUT, when a man was injured and needed healing or if a goat had fallen down a well, it was not prudent to wait until the next day to do something about it.
Jesus was not about subverting God but about bringing a message of mercy and love to us. God had sent Him to be sacrificed for us; and as God loves us so we should love one another.
A good reading of the OT will show you instances of "the old God" showing PLENTY of compassion, forgiveness and love.
He showed terrifying wrath, too, when disobeyed. That is often a very good thing for wayward children to experience.
Just stopping the handouts to illegals and their dependents would stop their entry into this country without too much trouble. Checking status before giving them any benefits would also help immensely. I guess what I'm saying is that if Jesus was an immigrant baby, he never signed up to illegally vote or get on the welfare rolls.
"The Old Testament only became a part of the Christian belief system because of the politics of the day." – That must be why Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul and Peter quoted it so often.
Both Israel and Egypt were part of Rome. Neither had an independent government. Legally, the move to Egypt was like moving from California to Arizona only Roman law was much looser.
"Progressives" like to distort Jesus into something that appeals to the minority group they want to pull under their blanket at the moment. Jesus has been called black, white and now is compared to illegals without grounds. It's kind of like the old and corrupt Catholic church in the middle ages that would declare "God is with us" instead of saying "We are with God"….and making sure the assertion was true.
I would vote for Obama over Nolips Pencil-Neck POLLYANNA…Nolips feels OH-SO-SAD when we "ASSASSINATE" TERRORISTS…YOU WEENIE!
Our experience of life is essentially a manifestation of consciousness
All we "know," all we experience through our senses
I've … accepted that consciousness permeates the entire universe, and its nature is love.
Did you jump out of a King of the Hill episode by any chance?
Stop doing drugs. Then you might have a chance at a normal life.
True liberals want more freedom. What you are describing are leftists. Leftists like big government and wish to impose their selfishness on others using the government.
I've yet to see a single leftist say "You know, we should not be having such a large government"
@Thay….That has to be the funniest post I've read in a while. It's like a 9 year old put forth his thoughts through the eyes of SpongBob.
Why are you still talking? Don't you have some animals waiting to torture?
good one duder….
George-if all of mankind is born with a sinful nature then the moral code will not match with what you feel in your heart. The law was given so we could see the corrupt nature we have and that we are guilty and deserve the punishment that is yet to come. The only way out of this mess is to have someone pay that debt for us and that is what Jesus did. By believing and accepting His atonement one should then have a change of heart, even though not perfect, and live a moral life.
wldbil, note Thay's rating and consider the source. Thay is a Hollyweed Flake along with several other 'Big Reds' s here.
If you read them for awhile you learn they all post the same things, over and over:
#1 Conservatives/Libertarians are all STUPID
#2 Conservatives/Libertarians are all Homophobes
#3 Conservatives/Libertarians are all Nazis
#4 Conservatives/Libertarians are all Racists
#5 Follow the "Enlightened Path" that ONLY Progressives (like Thay) provide – i.e. 'you stupid fools'
They repeat those themes over, and over, and over – precisely as do their Masters in the DNC do. Yeah right…..
Makes a thinking person consider why do all the Holloweed types post their crazy comments here? Don't they have JOBS? Maybe they are PAID TROLLS?
I can only presume they are terrified of the Silent Majority 2.0 where their work gets rolled back to the early 1900's i.e. no welfare or welfare votes.
Friendly hint: turn off <allcaps> and .
Now that got me laughing as Thay is pretty ignorant fellow. Watch as the replies to his crazy posts drive Thay to become more and more hysterical and more and more crazed in his – until he leaves the thread and moves on to poop elsewhere on the Big sites.
HOW MANY FINGERS AM I HOLDING UP, POLLYANNA DISCIPLE?
Oh, I forgot, I've seen Pauleeanna PIECE SIGNS being hoisted by the SUICIDAL SCUZZBAGGERS AND OWSERS…WEENIE!
Semantics PC. Great Goals have to be achievable and sustainable. Neither of which can be achieved by the tax/regulations 'Yokes' the Left would place on everyone.
Progressives all possess one trait, Government Knows Best – Individualistic Thoughts are BAD.
It is the chief reason the Big Reds go Postal when they are vociferously opposed here.
That is going to blow Thay's cork.
Say, "Thank you, robber barons"
Thanks for that.
I'm sensing a change in Big Red tactics here of late. Instead of directly being confrontational as did the original Big Reds, the new breed of Big Reds are taking a different tact, being sympathetic on the surface then subversive later on.
Hence the "merry Christmas" 1st then the 'oh, the 10 Commandments are worthless so just ignore them. Being secular is wonderful.'
Sorry, I don't get the reference. It sounds like something from television, and I try to avoid mind-numbing fantasies.

Amen. Thay's ideas are those of a self-centered person not a Christian/Hebrew/Muslim with Faith in God.
It is a common thread that lies at the heart of those that reject a higher power – THEIR egos rule the universe, not God's.
Or 2nd Thessalonians 3:10 But Thay has rejected that God given premise.
BINGO, you NAILED it!
Thank you for that. I follow the reasoning, but have a hard time with the underlying premise. From what evidence do we derive that mankind is born with a sinful nature? Did God mess up when he “created Man?”I've experienced a lifetime of people trying to define how I should see myself, the world, and my place in it. Most of them, even the most well-meaning, come from an agenda that considers their needs far more than it considers mine.If I'm making a terrible mistake trying to derive some meaning for myself from the fact of my existence, and my lack of “faith” puts my soul in jeopardy of eternal damnation, well then, at the end of the day I guess God and I will have something to talk about. Most of what I see on this page is what has been handed down from people claiming superior understanding of creation – churches and their priests, Biblical scholars . ..”authorities,” and it boils down to “one way for every one,” be it Christianity, Judaism, or Islam.Given that every one of us must experience living in a unique way (else we are cookie cutter robots serving a mechanistic system), it strikes me as unlikely that the answers that work for you will work in an identical fashion for me. I'm always happy to speak with people about what they feel and what they think. I have already heard what authority wants us to feel and think, and don't seem to get much out of hearing again and again.
I'm trying to edit, with no success. If THIS works, I will delete original. YOU DON'T THINK THAT EVIL IS SUPERNATURAL?
From Dick Morris and Newsmax, today… http://www.newsmax.com/
"Ron Paul(eeanna) remains terrifying. He is really the ultimate liberal in the race. He wants to legalize drugs(and prostitution-lvd), repeal the Patriot Act, slash our military spending, pull out of Afghanistan… ____
Take it down 1000 buddy. Maybe switch to half-caf?
Wonder if GregorStephan will tell Jesus to His face that he thinks He's just a hippie. Gregor won't be able to blog his way out of that situation.
Not just the progressives and the pansy left – - the moose also hijack the Bible, claiming that the "Jews" rewrote it. This, of course is impossible, but then the moose worship Ba'al, the moon god.
The moose do not believe Jesus is the Son of God. They do not believe He was resurrected. They have the audacity to put Jesus alongside the child-molesting illiterate drunkard and used-camel salesman, Moe Hammit. This shows how much the moose hate Jews and Christians alike.
How can any Christian get along with someone who mocks Jesus and wants to kill all Christians.
The progressives and the moose have a lot in common in this respect. They both hate Jesus, Christians and the Bible and both of them worship Satan and love evil and hate goodness and godliness.
Their fates are written down in the Bible. They lose.
Yes, you did condemn me and other posters here: "What I see here is largely a bunch of name-calling by people who seem to believe reality is just a matter of opinion, and their opinions are correct for no reason other than that they hold them." Yet you utter the exact same blather with peacenik-speak like "our experience of life is essentially a manifestation of consciousness." Your "experience" is correct for no reason other than you insist it is.
Actual discussion requires reason and logic. It also requires you to prove your assertions: "The other statements you utter in the second paragraph do not accord with my own experience in the 1960's, or anything I heard uttered by the people I met." So, get on with it. Anecdote is not data.
"Although the hippies made a lot of noise, it doesn't follow that they had any significant influence over society's values or laws." O rly? And what rock have you been hiding under the last 40 years, while the divorce rate skyrocketed, marriage rates plummeted, the "War on Poverty" eroded entire communities, legal abortion vaulted into a top birth control method? That had everything to do with the "do your own thing" mentality of the 60s hippies.
You insist that the hippies were a bunch of harmless peaceniks, but the evidence speaks otherwise. Just because you personally didn't participate in bank bombings or violent protests doesn't mean your mushy relativism didn't affect our culture and country.
My life will never be peaceful and joyous as long as you relativists keep slithering away from the mess you created.
LOL!
And communing with the conscious universe isn't a mind-numbing fantasy. Got it.
Your peacenik-hippie-NewAge-speak belies a troll. Probably a stoned one.
They evidence is the fact that there is no one that I know that has not broken the moral law with either thought, word or deed. God did not mess up but created moral beings with free will. this was done for His glory. We get more joy with a dog/cat than we do with a robot. I think that this whole universe and the creation of man was to purge the sin brought on by the fall of the devil. God created man good with free will and the ability to chose between right and wrong. Mankind chose to disobey but God had a means for redemption-That was to send His Son to live a perfect life so He would not be dying for any of His sins but be a substitute for my sins-since I now have been spared the eternal punishment do to nothing I have done, I can live a life of gratitude, trying to obey His moral law, even though I can not fully live that life now but will

The end justifies any means…
George- All but one of the world religions tell you can you can earn your salvation by doing good-Christianity is the only one that states you can not earn it but must have someone take the punishment for you. That way God remains Holy Just because the punishment for the crime of sin was paid for. Also last time I was in traffic court I tried to get the judge to throw out my parking ticket since I have never had a violation for the last 40 years I have been driving, but the judge had to follow the law.
Hey, I didn't say “just a hippie.” Jesus is the most enlightened entity in the story: compassion and self-realization.
“Largely” a bunch of name-calling. I believe I complimented yourself on communicating reasonably. Easy, brother.I guess my issue here is that I see events like the “summer of love” as arising from the historical-social milieu that contains them. Blame whomever you will for whatever you believe are the ills of the world – and I share your view on many of them – but please take some time to think about who actually wields power on this plane. Most of the decay you attribute to hippie influence can actually be placed at the feet of advertisers, marketers, corporate shareholders, and all others of their ilk who have fashioned their own god from the muck of greed. As for the other part of this “conversation,” let us simply agree that we have different ideas about what constitutes evidence.
Tssk. Prove my original point: When you have nothing to say, throw a stone. And stone again. How on earth could you possibly Know what my experience of life is?This points directly to my concerns about organized religion, to wit, that there is One point of view, One Way. Prove it. Show me. What evidence can you provide other than “faith,” which is nothing other than an unprovable belief.
I'm sure that someone with grounding in religious philosophy would be able to better grapple with the canonical points behind your argument. It is beyond me. All I can say is that you have my respect for committing to a moral life. All I ask is that you all try to see that a moral life is not possible unless it allows others freedom to choose their own path to a moral life. It might be more helpful if we were to speak of an “ethical” life, since allows us to measure our actions in the world, whereas “moral,” to me, belongs in the realm of conscience and love.
Thank you for your reasoned reply. The sticking point for me (and I was raised in the Christian tradition, so it's not as though I haven't thought about it – a lot) is the notion we were born guilty. That is such an awful concept, so limiting, and there is no evidence for it.Why would any “loving” God-like entity bother with creating a conscious entity with the capacity to “know” him only to saddle it with guilt and suffering? Suffering is not noble. When the meek finally inherit the earth, the powerful will have reduced it to ash.
Thank you folks for a most enlightening interlude. In one of our conversations, I noted that consciousness was prone to "manipulation." Point here: whereas other places I post my views also feature negative and positive votes, Mr. Andrew here (and I am so pleased to have discovered where he lays his intellectual hat) plays games with statistics. At -5 votes, I had a rating of -69%. Okay, that's one way of broadcasting loudly to a person he's in enemy territory. But make it bright red in color, and don't call it a Popularity rating, but make it an issue of "Reliability." As in, "can be relied on to toe the party line?" As in, "he has differing opinions; he cannot be Trusted?"
Oh, Andrew, Andrew, did your mother teach you nothing about honesty? This is "news?"
I would love to tell Jesus to his face that I thought him a hippie. He would laugh, right? Isn't that what enlightened beings do, when confronted with innocence?
Merry Christmas!
Mele Kalikimaka, no matter the language it's still a Merry Christmas.
Perhaps if you did some research, you might learn that Intense Debates is totally independent from Andrew Breitbart.
The service is owned by Automatic corp. They bought Intense Debates a year ago. Now if you can prove Andrew owns Automatic, then your complaints MIGHT hold water.

So why attack Andrew? Psst your bias is showing. At least you are polite, mahalo.
Harley, I lasted for 3 posts on Huffy-Puffy and a whole WEEK on one to the other Lefty-Gheh-Whining- Boards…This poor sap is crying about how she isn't getting good numbers LOFL!
"While self-hating Americans make up but a fraction of the population," notes Dan Flynn in Why The Left(and NOW, The Lily-Livered Paullyanna Disciple) Hates America, "their influence is great." "They are museum curators, journalists, college professors, librarians, and movie stars. http://www.sullivan-county.com/id4/flynn.htm
It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. __George Washington….WHO?
"Oh, Andrew, Andrew, did your mother teach you nothing about honesty? This is "news?"
I did a little research (it is an engineer's wont) and found this on the Intense Debate's website:
"Reputation scores are determined by an algorithm that takes into account the number of posts you make, the number of up votes or down votes, and also factors in a time variable. Negative votes will impact your reputation score more heavily."
Since you have not been well received here on the Bigs (well duh – look were you are posting), your only hope is to continue to be polite, not snarky, and hope that you get some positive votes. I would suggest a heartfelt Prayer or two, but as you are an agnostic at best, I'll leave it at suggesting Obama's 'Hope.'
I suggest you do your own research before you post poo about Andrew – we love the guy for the sabots he has thrown into the DNC's propaganda organs A.K.A. White House media, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, WaPo, NYT, etc. We have had the opportunity to watch the hysteria unfold, read his documentation, and gosh, he had not lied about ANYTHING. Occupy, Pigford, Weinergate etc, the list goes on and on and will continue to grow at least as long as the Obama Sycophants continue to lie, obfuscate etc.
Nah, I just found it an interesting thought. Doesn't change the tenor of the site at all. Merry Christmas to Andrew and Automatic Corp. as well. It's been an interesting and informative visit.
I just gave you a thumbs up GregorStephan. It's not that difficult to be nice. Merry Christmas, Prosperous New Year.
I gave him another one. Harley Charley did the leg work for Gregor and he took the bad news like a 95% man. I'm sure he regrets suggesting that Andrew's mother failed her son on the benefits of honesty, as well.
Taxpayer1234, you shouldn't argue with cartoon characters. Just wait until Hank Hill pops him one and enjoy it.
Well, hey, thank you. And you're absolutely correct. I try to practice nice, though I have to admit that discussing politics or religion tends to bring Mr. Ego more to the fore.
Harley… if Thay is a Big City "progressive", he probably has no clue what a nasty critter a cowbird is… He may think you've complimented them.
Hmmm… well, it seems that you're remembering the "sweetness and light" Jesus and forgetting all about the Jesus who flew into a rage and overturned the tables of the birdsellers and moneychangers on the temple steps. The man was not always meek and understanding. There was a very good, practical– and perfectly innocent– reason for having the birdsellers and moneychangers near the temple. The birds were for sacrifice, and it was sacrilege to take a coin with the image of the false god Caesar into the temple, so if a worshipper was carrying Roman coins, they had to be swapped. Jesus just thought they were too close to the entrance, but didn't ASK them to move, He THREW them off the steps. So I wouldn't count on His sense of humor and tolerance of gray areas.
