As reported by Big Government:
Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL), who was the subject of allegations of congressional insider trading, has indicated that he will not seek to extend his term as chair of the House Financial Services Committee after 2012.
Progressive media has fought hard against the story of insider trading, first broken by Big Peace Editor Peter Schweizer with his book Throw Them All Out. Leftist media attempted to discredit the sources and blow off the story, but after President Obama mentioned it in his State of the Union Address, the tactic was turned on its ear.
Earlier this week Joel Pollak discussed how the Huffington Post issued a mea culpa after working hard to encourage dismissal of the story:
Give Ryan Grim of the Huffington Post credit: it takes courage to change one’s mind, and to admit an earlier mistake.
Grim has written that he was wrong to dismiss a November 2011 report by 60 Minutes (based on Breitbart editor Peter Schweitzer’s book, Throw Them All Out) on insider trading in Congress:
At the time, I wrongly reported that 60 Minutes’ poor choice of targets for its report, and its clumsy attempt to connect specific trading to specific legislative action, set momentum for the bill back. Instead, in fact, the report propelled the legislation forward.
Grim had initially reported that the 60 Minutes report “falls short.”
What changed?
Much of the left and the left media–including the Huffington Post, Politico, and Media Matters for America–dismissed the issue of insider trading and tried to discredit both the allegations and their source. Now that Obama has taken up the legislation–with its sponsor, Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) obtaining Obama’s explicit commitment to make Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid move it through the Senate–the left is scrambling to catch up.
Now that Bachus’s declined (arguably due to political inability) to extend his term after 2012 it must be asked whether progressive media is collectively kicking itself for not reporting on the seriousness of this story — and whether or not they will acknowledge the Breitbart role in it?

Hillary stated the other day that she was tired of politics. The rats are jumping ship now that they realize America is going to scrutinize thier every move. Very telling. Makes America understand why they got into politics in the first place. For themselves. I am beginning to believe that most politicians have severe character defects. Not all, but a majority. They are all going to be under my microscope from here on out. The MSM will have to change or wither and die on the vine.
"…whether progressive media is collectively kicking itself for not reporting on the seriousness of this story."
No they ran with the talking points put out by the Dem establishment and White House. Now, they might be a bit embarrassed that they weren't kept in the loop by that same establishment that Obama was coming out with it in the SOTU. Now that the "boss" has said it….they have new marching orders.

Keep up the hate. It's a good fit. Gonna eat you alive though.

Who knew that Olinsky reads the Bigs? I bet he accounts for at least a dozen of the trolls around here.
If he were a brain sucking parasite he'd starve to death on his own brain, assuming there's actually anything in that microscopic melon to begin with…
Exactly.
I defer to greatness.
Nice job.
What a first class troll slayer.
"Progressives" try to harness the control over the only being on earth which can be programed to serve as instructed…. The human can be programmed to perform duties, as proven through the indoctrination techniques used currently by the "Progressives" in command of intelligence and control around the world!!!! It is not uncommon for them to conquer large masses using nothing more than teachings/indoctrination!! To control the mind is to transform the human resident of that body into your robot!!!
I'm known around here as the "Trolinator" for a reason…
A pleasure, I'm sure.It is fine and noble work and you excel at it greatly.I saw some green liquid leaking from the wounds.
Mmmmm…… squishy troll innards…..
Tastes like victory!
I humbly thank you for the kind words, it's not "greatness" its battle hardened resolve…
Call it what you will…
Bachus exiting as chairman is good news.
Why the wait until the end of 2012, why should we suffer that indignation, go now by the end of today–just get the f#$^ out creep.
Good riddance, as far as I'm concerned.
They will accept the tire tracks and wear them as a badge of dis-honer, like a good journalista.
now he needs to exit the Congress in totality!
remember most people send you to Congress to do the peoples' will and for the betterment of the USA, not to enrich yourself, there will be plenty of time to do that when you are out of office, just look at Bill Clinton multi-million dollar speaking fees.
Everybody right of Joe Lieberman knew leftists were slow, so of course they're playing catch-up.
OOOO, it's horrid! Horrid, I say, says Helen.
No, it's "horrid" when the Taliban chop off your head and piss down your neck. That's horrid.
Dana was just agreeing with the proper way to wash the bodies of terrorists before burial.
Unfortunately, she left out the part about wrapping them in pig entrails first but, well, she's a lady.
Zero ordering Dingy Harry to work with a Republican (even if I have to use the word quite loosely) to impose insider trading rules (mostly on members of the Democratic party, it appears) must have made for a hilarious conversation after the speech!
Who am I kidding. Zero took him aside and told him what he was going to say but, not to worry, just tie Brown up in procedural knots until after the election then we'll forget about it!
Seems the only sure-fire way to control this outrageous insider trading by our elected officials
is to elect honest uncorrupted people..
And term limits..
Surround yourself with people smarter than you. It's my motto. Hence my anti-social nature for the most part of the last decade. Thank you Andrew for the outlet.
Nuclear fuel on the moon. For peeps who like to be informed and grounded in critical thinking today's show was a revelation in more ways than one….on podcast. Firstly, don't leave the slider open for a chicken with a MacBook fetish as it has suffered from a fall from 30 in. DOH! The machine hasn't skipped a beat. A bit wobbly.
Secondly, brilliant people gravitate towards Host. BREAKING NEWS: WE DO WANT TO GO TO THE MOON!!!!!!!!! Or do we? (crickets everywhere else) In reality, dude may just be pumping up some penny stock. Or…I've seen the game more than I care to know. I'd like to see a white paper by someone screened by the Breitbart Empire. Did some rogue peripheral just open a can of worms or spill the beans. I dunno yet. But I'm gonna find out.
Thirdly, my support is solidly behind Saracuda. It may not be for the intellectual crowd but I'll take gut instincts over pandering to those who I let believe are smarter than me. Like I said. I surround myself with people smarter than me. And currently I'm anti-social. Again. Thank you Andrew. Breitbart has given us a plethora of genius to rally around. Truly invaluable AB.
Everything Palin wrote about today is dead on balls accurate except " I respect Governor Romney." I guess my manners here won't fly at the Santorum Thanksgiving table. Something tells me Rick's kids once said Bob Casey sux dog arse. Let's not pretend otherwise.
read about Axis II personality disorders (particularly Narcissistic Personality Disorder) to understand many politicians. If not fully satisfying diagnostic criteria, almost all of have major narcissistic traits, if not the full-blown disorder.
Remember, narcissists believe their own lies.
and being invited on CNN is an indicator of value or worth?
Puh-leeeze.
Demjanjuk, how does it feel to be sadly mistaken?
Hillary was recorded on back in 1998 saying that she doesn't use e-mail anymore because it leaves a trail for the prosecutors.
Her mindset appears to be closer to organized crime than Ghandi.
HA! These people seem to obsess on all things sexually deviant. After seeing Jim Hoft obsess about fisting for over 14 articles, golden showers shouldn't be too low on their immoral compass. CNN has some standards left.
My personal pet was Wichitalineclown. Whatever happened to that dear one, I wonder.
Oh…whining about the so-called "progressive media"? Can you hear us way back there in 2003? What were you 3 years old then? LOL
Oh… I wonder if we can apply to Soros for a better quality troll? These, like IndiePalin, are so boring.
Surround yourself with people smarter than you. It's my motto. Hence my anti-social nature for the most part of the last decade.
i'm guilty of this myself… but it's time to re-engage.
it's time to put our skills to use and make sure OBAMAO doesn't get re-elected!
why don't you deviates get a room
This is fantastic news. This shameful Congressman has decided not to run in 2012 for re-election. He must have received lots of truth serum from constituents. I was prepared to donate to his opponent and others around the nation. Time to clean the rat hole that is Congress. The only way we can keep people honest is impose term limits by voting them out of office quickly. They all catch the crook disease upon arrival in DC. Elected officials just playing in the sandbox all believing their right and their job is to snatch as much taxpayer money as possible while ignoring violations of the Constitution. That makes them the problem.
Once again a far-left losers attacks the messenger and ignores the message. Keep it up moron!!
Insightful post. What are you, twelve?
His exit should take him all the way out of the Congress……we still have way too many crooks and liars there.
The media is willing to believe the Liar in Chief? Nifty.
"Progressive media?" All major media in this country is owned by corporations and managed by a board of directors whose sole duty is to maximize shareholder value. That is done by increasing profitability. They are not concerned with Democrat or Republican, left or right. They are concerned with profits! That is their sole mission. And as they all have substantial interests in entertainment assets, nightly news programs in the "progressive media" feature the latest box office results, which rap star was arrested with a gun or drugs, and what the Kardashians are doing. This is NOT "progressive media."
All the people deluded into thinking one party is better than the other better wake up. The left/right paradigm is dead. The banksters are in control. George Carlin was right. You have owners! Corporate money controls politics. This is not in the best interest of actual human beings. Your voice has been marginalized. All this liberal-this, conservative-that talk is buying into the paradigm you are sold by the corporate media that controls the conversation. The presidential campaigns of Gary Johnson and Rocky Anderson are marginalized to keep the two major parties in control. Since Citizens United v. FEC, these media companies are now reaping huge profits from electoral campaign advertising revenues. They are all for the status quo. You will have four choices for president but the "progressive media" keeps reporting about "the two choices" you will have. They are attempting to make their dreams self-fulfilling. WAKE UP PEOPLE!
You know, I read all the comments here, Helen, and didn't see any that address anything remotely sexual except yours. I think that says more about YOUR state of mind.
That's just sad.
They already share a room, Bil. Also a terminal. And also the lotion.
It appears as if Obama has stolen another conservative idea to use in his reelection drive. With the media outlets downplaying the entire investigation on Schweitzer's book, Obama now claims it for himself and the media runs with the story that Obama is working to stop the thieving , do nothing Congress.
Meh.
Wake me up when Holder makes his exit.
Now if he ever gets around to encouraging legislation prohibiting pols from benefitting from shady real estate deals with known Chicago gangsters – retroactive to, oh, about 2005 – I might be impressed.
"The MSM will have to change or wither and die on the vine."
God willing, Insh'Allah, or however you wish to express it.
I would prefer it just die off. The age of internet journalism, of which there are already CREDIBLE outlets with editorial and journalistic integrity, shouldn't tolerate outdated news in which the media is trusted to fact-check itself but can tear apart politicians on the front page, while offering a redaction weeks later on pg18.
Looks more like you are screeching the claim over and over in the hope that it will somehow hurt Dana Loesch.
It only shows your desperation and need to smear people.
He probably thinks those inkblot tests are pornographic.
What were you 3 years old then?
Is that the age you stopped maturing, little one?
Hillary leaving politics is sad, actually. I was hoping the next Republican or Independent President would keep her on as the Secretary of State for all the same reasons Obama kept Robert Gates. She's capable, is respected by other countries, has the name recognition to make her presence meaningful, not to mention change for the sake of change is pointless, and Dems and the GOP have more in common in foreign policy than anyone attached to either side cares to admit.
I would prefer treating them like a jury. Not letting them speak to the media, campaign from office, or speak with anyone about legislative matters except other elected officials and their constituents. Applying the same disclosure requirements that the Executive Branch is subject to would be neat also.
Just imagine the first three months when we leak that congressmen are secretly blowing (figuaratively AND literally) lobbyists for campaign donations. Or that they would be forced to legislate instead of CONSTANTLY worrying about how their actions will play out in national polls?
And nothing on earth is stopping you from owning a piece of those "corporate monsters", sharing in their profits, and possibly influencing their decisions. Corporations get involved with government because it makes financial sense….
You should find irony in the fact that the interests of the customers of corporations don't align with the interests of government, purporting to represent them.
January 16, 2012 Obama Faces Challenging Re-Election Climate January indicators mostly align with losing incumbents, but there is still time for improvement by Lydia Saad

Who cares? A conservative idea pushed by a kooky liberal is at worst, still a good one, and at best, tantamount to admitting we've been right all along!
He's supposed to be the bipartisan President of the Nation. We shouldn't just bash him for going along with our ideas. Perhaps you should take a time machine back to the 90's and get angry about Clinton promoting free trade and signing Wefare Reform into law.
Amen
It would all be fine if he ever did what he said–this is just more campaign rheortic and can't believe anyone would fall for itSent from my iPhoneEverette Hamiltom
Since the public will is obviously behind this issue, why not USE it? Get Obama to force Harry Reid into letting it be voted on, and then use the media to tar and feather every politician who opposes it…
Just because he's come out in defense of something you support doesn't mean you have to vote for him. Who cares who takes ownership of this issue as long as the bill gets passed? Your insistence that it be a Republican who passes it shows you care more about writing history than fixing the future.
True – to an extent.
I think the complaint is the authenticity – or lack thereof – of a proposal that a president has to be shamed into making.
Anyone would have to admit the hoped-for outcome – less self-interest in legislative decisions – can only benefit the country.
But it's the fact that Obama will get the credit, because the MSM will make sure that he does, that gets people's blood boiling.
Because, notwithstanding the adage, "Only Nixon could go to China", we all know that if the circumstances were reversed, and it was a Republican President taking on Congressional insider trading, the narrative would be vastly different.
From that standpoint, it behooves all of us to point out the bias, even when it is such a non-partisan issue.
I sure am not going to hold my breath waiting on that one. That book really told us all what we already knew, but didn't take the time to analyze.
Right,.. or find 534 more Tom McClinocks…or Paul Ryans
People that do the right thing when no one is watching..
Good luck..
I don't care who writes the bill, I was simply expressing a concern that he was getting in a good sound bite for his campaign and then it will be dropped. Our group has full intentions of pushing our Representative to help write legislation to stop the insider trading and the cronyism on land deals. Sorry you see everything in a left vs. right world. I can come to no other conclusion since there was absolutely no mention of party affiliation in my comment.
"Banksters" = Occutard.
Still here, one thousand screen names later….
Chomskyite nonsense. Move along, troll.
Yep.
Pseudo-Marxist claptrap. Grow up.
GREAT NEWS! Bachus Exits House Finance Chairmanship. Wonder can Bachus still be charge with allegations of congressional insider trading? My guess no.
That's not a refutation of the thesis. It is an ad hominem attack.
I hold Time Warner, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, and Comcast shares and attend every annual shareholder meeting I can which means not having missed a Cablevision shareholder meeting in ten years, attending the others as is possible and not too costly. Of course it "makes financial sense" to get the politicians in your pocket. I find no irony in the misalignment of the marketplace that the consumer is compelled to tolerate and the subservience of the federal legislature to corporate interests.
More ad hominem. Are you capable of refuting any of the propositions contained in the comment? Or is ad hominem and guilt by association the order of the day?
Is any commenter on this site capable of debate, or is this just a gang hangout?
That's right, democrat. Screw it all up and then run away. Taking a play out of LBJ's playbook. You are so predictable.
