With the publication of Peter Schweizer’s best-selling book Throw Them All Out, Media Matters for America embarked on a scorched-earth campaign in an attempt to undermine both Schweizer and his book, while dismissing the topic of insider trading in Congress.
Bet they’d like to have that one back.
Here’s just a taste of their relentless attack. Each headline represents another post, with even more vitriol at the link on MMfA’s website:
60 Minutes Questions Suggesting Pelosi “Conflict” Reportedly Based On Schweizer Book
Bush, Beck, Breitbart, Palin: Schweizer’s Deep Right-Wing Ties
Schweizer Previously Pushed Dishonest Smears Of Pelosi In Prior Book
Schweizer Wrote Falsehood-Laden Op-ed Accusing Al Gore Of “Hypocrisy”
Schweizer Authored Book Blaming “Big Government Liberals” For Financial Meltdown
For its part, Politico mostly followed the Media Matters line on the story, with much of its report relying on quotes from Nancy Pelosi’s office. They even included a shot at Schweizer:
The allegations regarding Bachus, Hastert and Gregg covered by 60 Minutes are several years old and have received extensive media coverage already.
“Tonight’s report,” said Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Pelosi in a statement, “failed to note that the legislation in question in this story was reported out of the Judiciary Committee on October 3, 2008 – the day the House was consumed in passing TARP and also the last day the House was in session before the November election. It failed to note than in September 2008, the House passed the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights. In the next Congress, the House and Senate passed and President Obama signed the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights and the Dodd-Frank legislation, which included a stronger, more direct approach to addressing swipe fees.”
Hammill added: “It is very troubling that 60 Minutes would base their reporting off of an already-discredited conservative author who has made a career of out attacking Democrats.”
Now that Obama has raised the issue in his State of the Union address, the left is scrambling to get on the right side of the issue. Along with the humiliation of Pelosi-loving outlets like the Huffington Post, Media Matters and Politico have quite a bit of egg on their faces, as well.

FRAMING THE NARRATIVE –
Let's not forget the propaganda efforts of The Hill, which framed the story in the standard DNC/MSM/SOROS machine approved GOP=evil/Dems = goodness and light template.
http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/1007-other/...
"Possible insider trading by lawmakers has come under harsh scrutiny in recent months, after a '60 Minutes' report and new book detailed instances where it appeared members may have used their status to personally profit on their portfolios."
Liberal outlet 60 Minutes gets all the credit, and the author of the "new book" is not named, since he is a conservative and Breitbart editor.
"The STOCK Act, introduced by {two Dem congressmen}, would explicitly ban members from insider trading…House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told “60 Minutes” …that he expected to expand on the STOCK Act in 2012, after initially putting the brakes on the bill in December. {GOP congressman Spencer Bachus}, who was among the lawmakers singled out for questionable trades…"
FRAMING THE NARRATIVE Cont –
Again, 60 Minutes gets all the credit for the muckraking. Also, Dems introduced a bill calling for an end to insider trading by congressmen, while Republican Cantor held it up. Also, a GOP congressman is mentioned as one of the culprits, while no mention is made of Dem congressmen culprits.
Good work, The Hill. What a proud peice of unagendized, unmanipulative and non partisan journalism.
AP FRAMES NARRATIVE-
Let's also not overlook the Narrative framing efforts of the AP, who "abhor bias" and yet put out an article which implies that the GOP are against legislation to end insider trading by congressmen.
Donna Cassata's opening pargraph encapsulates the gist and message of the article, which is: GOP=evil/BHO=goodness and light. The rest is just details.
"President Barack Obama delivered an election-year broadside to Republicans: Game on."
AP FRAMES NARRATIVE Cont –
In an article which is essentially about ill-intentioned GOP obstruction of all BHO's good intentions, Cassata notes the "fierce divide" between Democrat and GOP aims, and writes:
"Obama ticked off items on a hefty agenda that he wants from Congress — a path to citizenship for children who come to the United States with their undocumented parents if they complete college, tax credits for clean energy, elimination of red tape for Americans refinancing their mortgages, a measure that bans insider trading by lawmakers and a payroll tax cut."
Who do you think you are fooling, Donna?

Nobody reads these site except for a few in Washington, and the conservatives that are keeping track of what they say.
So who cares?
WAPO FRAMES THE NARRATIVE –
Jena McGregor of the disgusting WaPo used BHO's SOTU address as an opportunity to once again pretend that GOP congressman Doug Lamborn is a throw back to the Democrat racist bigots of 50 years ago because he used the term tar baby in reference to an Obama issue.
But then again, why not? The liberal media uses any possible opportunity to foment hatred in decent citizens towards the liberal media's political enemies by painting them as – throw backs to the Democrat racist bigots of 50 years ago.
"{Lamborn} doesn’t really need to show off his conservative bona fides or prove his distaste for the president. This is the same lawmaker, after all, who was named the “most conservative” member of Congress by the National Journal in 2010. He’s also the same guy who called the president a “tar baby” before apologizing for what some saw as a racially tinged remark."
WAPO FRAMES THE NARRATIVE Cont –
Get it? By allegedly being racist, Lamborn "showed off his conservative bona fides." In other words, conservatives are all – throw backs to the Democrat racist bigots of 50 years ago.
WaPo, a monument to honesty and non partisanship in journalism.
"It was always Eurasia we are at war with! Those agents from Eurasia changed our signs to read Eastasia!!"
My idea of how the conversation went over at HuffPo, etc
They are far more influential than you may think. In particular, the AP is a wire service picked up by news outlets all over the country. They are hellbent on getting their candidate re-elected, jsut as they were hellbent on getting him in in the first place. They have no integrity, ethics or decency when it comes to their profession, becasue they have been taught that the ends justifies the means.
Don't worry – they'll just say that it's the "evil Rethuglicans fault"…
After all, they've been blaming all of President Zero's mistakes on us for the last 3 years already…
ABC FRAMES THE NARRATIVE – ST BARACK vs EVIL GOP
"…{BHO} struck a defiant tone against congressional Republicans that was even sharper than the repudiation he offered Tuesday night in his {SOTU} address.
'Our economy is getting stronger, and we've come too far to turn back now,' he told workers and guests at a conveyor manufacturing plant in Cedar Rapids. Speaking of Republicans, he said, 'Their philosophy is simple: We're better off when everyone is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules.'
'Well, I am here to say they are wrong,' he said….
ABC FRAMES THE NARRATIVE – ST BARACK vs EVIL GOP Cont –
"{BHO} will try to promote a populist message of income equality…If 2011 began with overtures to Republicans and big business, 2012 is about operating on his own terms."
No campaigning for a candidate using class warfare crap here. Nothing but the nonpartisan, unbiased, hard-headed coverage we have come to expect from ABC News.

That is egg on their face?
I would have guessed it was a bodily fluid…
Hey! Don't kick Media Matters when they are down you meanies! David Brock just broke up with his husband James Alefantis, and he is looking for new love on Chemistry.com
Curiously, his profile says he will only date white men. Is that racist?
