A revealing report released today by Rasmussen regarding voters’ perception of media bias:

- 67% say media has too much influence on government
- 20% say most reporters try to offer unbiased campaign coverage
- 72% say they try to help their candidate win
- 51% say average reporter is more liberal than they are
- 18% say average reporter is more conservative
Also from the study:
Surveys in 2009 found that the majority believe the media has made the economy, global warming and swine flu appear to be worse than they really are.
The report concludes with a stat on the oft-blurred line separating news and entertainment:
…nearly one-third of Americans under the age of 40 say satirical news-oriented television programs like The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are taking the place of traditional news outlets.

"…nearly one-third of Americans under the age of 40 say satirical news-oriented television programs like The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are taking the place of traditional news outlets."
Thats great! Those under 40, our future Congressmen, Senators, and Main Street Politicians, our future leaders, are getting their News from pretend news organizations.
I'm impresed.
The other two-thirds are now getting their info from BigJournalism.
Or, scrogging themselves looking at porn….
Thank God Algore invented this internet thingey!
I always envisioned Al, sitting at a keyboard, shorts down around his knees; muttering to himself "I shoulda been President", while he stares at some busty, lusty lass………….
Sounds like John Edwards !
All sources of info should be viewed with skepticism. You SHOULD question boldly. I'm just glad they didn't bake up some sort of 'conservative media bias' boogey men bull. Anyone paying attention knows that the networks and most cable outlets are brimming over with red diaper kids, and the righty-tighties are on the web/radio and Fox. It's not a difficult assessment.
Perceptions on the part of the thoughtless and the less than inquiring are a total different thing, and those numbers are pretty encouraging in that vein.
I'm a wonderin'……
If George Bush was responsible for Hurricane Katrina, is Barrack Obama responsible for Earthquake Haiti?
"18% say average reporter is more conservative"
Castro's Cuban relatives? Hugo's Hollywood Fan Club? The White House?
WTF??
I really didn't need the visual. Back to therapy I go. Thanx Cowboy.
Looks like the people are waking up! Finally!
Don't the Dems hate Rasmussen already? Watch for a new Obama press release on how reliable the MSM is.
40% of the Country self identify as Conservatives, 21% as Liberal. Many of the Conservatives believe they are in the minority (not this crowd) and therefore act that way. The only way that can happen is good propaganda and the MSM supplies that.
It's a shame what the libs have done for the last 40 years, posing as fair arbiters of truth and justice. The founders didn't put the press in the first amendment for nothing. I look forward to the day when the mainstream press is out of the Democrats' pockets and returned back to the people. .
There’s media bias? Chrissy Mathews, and Keif Olberdork only want’s what’s best for us all, they’re cool in a icky metrosexual way.
It must really be a bore to be a reporter in the old media these days. Unless you have a good imagination, then you can make up all the news that's fit to print. To bad nobody's reading it.
I personally don't believe Obama would be president today without the media's "influence". Remember Obama all "wee wee'd up" complaining that "if it were not for Fox news I'd be 3 points higher in the polls"? Where would this SOB be if not for every other "news" outlets in the tank for him? Bending over backwards kissing his @$$? Putting him on a pedestal he did not and does not belong? Going after "Joe the Plumber" when it was Obama's one truthful moment that alone should have cost him the election. It's the media that help perpetrate and create this fraud who now sits in the WH and acts like a celebrity. Anybody with half a brain and an ounce of respect for democracy should be outraged. The corruption we saw during the campaign is alive and well and is the new "normal" in America. Thank you Media. IMO you are entirely responsible. And thank you Obama for promoting this lie and openly denigrating anybody who dares step out of line and question you.
Aren't they though?
Thats a pair of incipient fags if I've ever seen any. They should both be in charge of music and terpsicordian activities………
that 18% that believes that reporters are more conservative than they are are cognizant of the need to add some kind of counterbalance to the outcome of such a poll, one that they already know is going to be so heavily weighted to show a liberal media bias. They are trying to pad the stats. I'd say that number can't be higher than 8% as liberal as this press is.
A lot of people over 40 are also getting their information from pretend news organizations… CBS, MSNBC, CNN, NY Times, etc.
Consiedr it his part to aid Obama's stimulus… that's a therapist's job that just got created or saved.
Excellent point!
I was being facetious. You are absolutely correct.
HA!…. and with all the comedians out of work, you're cracking jokes!
Unfortunately, this has always been true. Fortunately, there are more media outlets to circumvent the far left media.
I don't think that the media has any influence over government decisions…isn't it the other way around..the government has too much control over the (most) media??
I don't think anyone really needed a poll to figure this one out since it is so blatantly obvious.
While I once watched the major networks, including cable, I keep my dial on Fox only and to conservative talk radio. I finally have found voices who conform to my American values and way.
You can self-identify whatever you want. GOP Rino's do that all the time. The proof is in the pudding as the saying goes. What is the majority opinions on things? Who do they end up voting for and why? I would like to see a poll (not that I have that much faith in such things) that deals with people's positions on issues. The history of the U.S. since 1930 continues to prove that this is a Liberal nation. Conservatives, real ones, are in the minority.
This only confirms what my wife and I have known for years! What happened to punishing folks for printing lies?
it just proves that the obozo generation is clueless…………..the last election proved that to be true

In my own defense against (left or right) media bias, I recently built polurls.com as a political blog aggregator to help me see a quick snapshot of left-leaning, right-leaning and centrist blogs all on one page.
Because of the format, no one blogger can hijack my feed stream. The red page only shows the top conservative/libertarian blogs, the blue page shows progressive blogs and the purple page shows a mix.
It's a fast and interesting way to browser the latest political news. The purple page does a particularly good job of showing a wide-spectrum of current political opinions. Think popurls, but for politics.
