I find it equally amazing that MULTIPLE newspapers printed the letters.

One usually has to submit 10 – 50 letters to get even one published, yet 'Ellie Light' somehow found a way to get published as easily as a normal newswire story in 40+ newspapers?. Something tells me the MSM was in on this from the get go – and it makes you wonder how many other tyimes this might have happened.

There are probably many 'Ellie Lights" out there, but most are not so stupid as to keep using the same name. It would be nice to see more of them exposed.

But yet, we Democrats complain the loudest that the President lacks what it takes do the things he promised, at least not fast enough. You know. Do them right now. Before my coffee gets cold and I have to change the TV station. Speaking of TV, that “put the cameras in the health care debate” attack was another self-defeating move. As if it were the President’s decision alone to muscle past Congress and force the cameras into their faces. The President can promise to do something, but what with the world collapsing around us and all, it might take a little time to work through each promise. But I think it makes us Democrats feel independent and enlightened to deliver up stinging critiques of Obama’s every action. It shows the world that we are not blind followers. As if it were a point of embarrassment to stand by a President in a tough moment. Sheesh. Trash Obama so you can burnish your credentials as a Peace Activist. Trash Obama so you can sound like a Genuine Liberal. What Priorities. Heaven forbid that a person set aside their timetable and allow a new President to get his bearings. The American people were told this past February that if Congress passes a $787 billion dollar 'stimulus' bill, unemployment would not rise above 8%. Guess what. It's over 10% and climbing. The federal government does not 'create' jobs. It may throw money at government agencies that 'hire' people to work within that agency but it comes at the expense of the actual job creators in the private sector.

ever notice how Obama stays in campaign mode, even while POTUS….as if he never won, just keeps trying to sell his campaign promises. He loves to make big speeches to college crowds and promise them free education but has no jobs for them. They're an easy audience that just throws softballs. Their professors are Socialists and despise Capitalism…so Obama feels at home speaking as a College Professor to his peer group. But, when was the last time he spoke to the Tea Party??? He doesn't have the balls to hear from taxpaying folks that are losing their jobs while he is POTUS. If his supporteres now believe the job is hard and takes time…then logically, G. Bush could have had the same excuse, and you could also say all he needed was more time….if that's all it takes, then we should let G. Bush back in the office to finish his work. While POTUS, G. Bush had full employemnt, about 95%, over his 8 years…things only got bad in 2007 and 2008 when the DemoRats started shaking consumer confidence with their negative campaign advertising about the economy, and smart businesses started to realize what their promises meant to future business environment…they started laying people off to prepare for the worst….and they were right.

Read the constitution. It lays out the powers of the federal govt. They are very limited, and for good reason. Since the beginning the fed have been sneaking more and more power from the states and people to themselves. President Obama has throw that power grab scheme into full throttle. The people of the United States do not want a socialist state of any kind. Although many people have become somewhat indoctrinated through dependence on govt through various programs, the vast majority of people still cherish freedom from govt intervention into their lives. We are not willing to sell our souls to the govt in exchange for food stamps or free doctors visits. President Obama has accomplished one miraculous thing though. He has energized the conservative majority in this country to stand up and be counted!

i've written my fair share of letters to the editor over the years- somewhere between a dozen & twenty, i suppose- and so far i'm batting 1.000 on getting them published. that's right, every single one i've ever bothered to write has made it into print. over the years i've come to be acquainted with a few of the editors and they've all told me how starved they are for well-written, well-thought out letters of ANY political persuasion- i guess my cutting conservative/libertarian restrained rants fit the bill.

howver, having said that- the other thing i've noticed is that 100% of the time, the paper in question WILL call to confirm who i am, where i live, etc. the odds that this letter just happened to find its way into 42+ papers without some insidious assistance from the left media bias is implausible on its face. there's no friggin' way an anti-Obambi letter would have been published so frequently.

Yes. But I don't think there's a coordinated effort by all these particular newspapers. Maybe I'm giving the coordinated Left too much credit, but I don't think they'd use use the same name if they were bothering to give different addresses. I think it's someone testing the system with a "sting." See how many newspapers will print a letter to the editor that is unverifiable yet well-written and expresses a point of view that the editorial page already has. Then let the New Media go to work gathering and sharing the info, speculating, and most of all realizing that newspapers will compromise themselves to share opinions they agree with AND this sort of astroturfing can be done. Then, why wouldn't we diligent info-gatherers in the New Media think to go look for other 'turf letters and opinions, in Old and New Media? It certainly seems like the perfect story for Big Journalism to cover. This is currently my own favorite conspiracy theory.

I completely agree with you, except for one thing. THIS president/congress could cut all taxes across the board tomorrow, but the impact of that move would still be blunted by the fact that most people in the productive class don't trust this government. This is a crisis of confidence. I'm afraid that until we flush the waste from this toilet that is the federal government, the stench of their governing philosophy will continue to pollute every aspect of business in America.

Afternoon all. Has anyone contacted the newspapers in question to determine what each's vetting procedure is? As noted in an earlier comment it's also the practice up here in the Great White North that newspapers will request address and contact information to try to stop this type of seeding from taking place.
It would be nice to be able to be able to show how each paper vetted the author of the letter in question and whether they followed their own procedure. I have to think this kind of stuff has gone on for quite some time (perhaps more blatently now) and I think the bigger story may be which papers ignored their own vetting procedures and how that could have occurred.

I think they are up to 61 newspapers now, and counting. What a lot of attention for one little lady with a favorable opinion of Dear Leader! An interesting question was asked: how many of these 61 newspapers printed rebuttals? I say they are all complicit.

Letters to the editor are supposed to include contact info. Letter page editors are supposed to call and verify. How can you get past this? If Ellie Light duped scores of newspapers, how can we trust that letters to the editor really represent real readers?

OK guys, it’s Ellie Light again. It’s been suggested that I’m Michelle Obama, Award-winning author Samantha Powers, and not to be outdone, the Michelle Bachmann people figure that I am “NONE OTHER THAN THE POTUS HIMSELF.” Someone found an Ellie Light on Facebook, a woman married to a software designer, and decided that hubby’s software was instrumental in forcing or spoofing editors into publishing my letter. Another blog moderator drew a connection between one of my responses and the name “Winston,” and decided I was part of a PR firm named “Winston Group.” And in a bit of hagiography worthy of Talmudic scholars, a reader noted that my letter’s reference to “Candidate Obama,” sounded similar to “Comrade Obama,” and thus, betrayed the President’s Marxist-Leninist origins. Another astute observer noticed my British spelling of the world “realise,” and reported this straightaway to a senior moderator, who congratulated her for her fine detective work. A grammar-aware sleuth, armed with my mix-up of their/there and let’s/lets, went in search of clues. She returned with a whole trove of letters supposedly written by me, published online in Baltimore. Apparently, a team of techies is right now, trying to fish out my ISP and MAC address, quite certain that at the end of the day, they’ll not find some vapid college gal with no social life, but rather, a highly-paid Obama operative directing a warehouse full of minions busily concocting nice things about the Prez. Has anyone thought to ask that if All The President’s Men really were embarking on such a scheme to fake a groundswell of support, why in the world would they sign each letter with the same name?

Alright, then. Take a deep breath and let’s imagine a much more plausible scenario. Frustrated Obama-supporter writes letter to some blogs, asking why are we so harsh on our new President? Ben Smith picks up my letter, and even pays me a backhanded compliment in the process (check out the chronology of submissions. They match this scenario). Star-struck girl sees her letter in print, accompanied by angry comments from dozens of frothing Tea-partiers. She decides that perhaps she’s quite brilliant after all, and sends her letter around to a few more papers. Voila! The letters are printed, and Ellie’s friends (my friends), all remark that they never get their letters published, and what’s so special about Ellie’s letters? So Ellie, feeling smug and superior, indulges in a bit more self-validation, and submits her letter again…. and again! Then one fateful day, Ms. Eaton from the Cleveland Plain Dealer does her Google search, and a conspiracy theory is born!

Now, I know you guys are almost as big on conspiracy theories as my FEMA-hating lefty pals, and are not about to just let something this juicy go away, especially since the more fanciful theories about me are sending Tea-blog readership through the roof. The guy over at Left-Coast Something-Something flat out says that he’s never been onto anything so big. He couldn’t hide is excitement. I mean, how often do you people find someone new to hate? I’m sure its exhilarating. So why didn’t I lie low and be happy that you guys are spinning your wheels so fruitlessly? Because part of me just can’t resist clearing the air. Part of me hates to see anyone, even political opponents, carrying on in such a brainless, ridiculous pastime.
