The Heisman Trophy winner — un-aborted, home-schooled, and a devout Christian — is causing a stir on the Left with his upcoming Super Sunday ad extolling the virtues of the pro-life position. Since his mother was advised to abort him, maybe he ought to know.
What do you think?

More to come on this subject later today.

If the theocrats at Focus On The Family want to blow $2.5M on a thirty-second spot that will be immediately forgotten or ignored by millions of booze-staggered proles, I think that's great. Anything that depletes the funds of dominionists is FINE by me.
Although I am no fan of the Gators or Tebow, I admire his willingness to proclaim his beliefs. The fact that he feels no shame for practicing Christianity is exactly why the other side of the equation is attacking. We need more young people like him to set such a great example for kids to follow.
I also love his Christian example of steroid use and inflicting concussions!
The absurdity of this whole premise – the importance of one human being to any endeavor, and the success of a college football team being even more absurd – is laughable. What if Jonas Salk had been aborted, hell, what if Tim Tebow had been hit by a truck when he was 12? Would Polio still be a scourge on man kind? Would not some other athlete taken the helm at Florida? A ridiculous premise surrounded by an absurd argument about a laughable probability.
Why is this a controversy? There is nothing illegal, immoral or offensive in the ad. Only those hell bent on promoting the murder of innocent babies could or would be offended by someone's CHOICE not to abort. In reality, the so-called "pro-choice" movement never wants anyone to consider the joy of making the choice for life. This proves that they are pro-death not pro-choice!
the most innocent and helpless among us should be protected. but the only life the left wants to protect is that of a murderer. when you fail to protect the unborn it only a matter of time before the elderly become targets.
Then we are in agreement…so why are you blowing off here complaining…?
Welcome to football, cupcake…
Please cite your claim on steroid use…immediately…
It's only a controversy because CBS has historically turned down all other Super Bowl advertising on volatile social issues. If they allowed anybody to advertise about anything, as they should, this wouldn't be a story at all.
I wish all of the people who play pro, semi-pro, or college sports had his inner stregnth to stand up for what they believe instead of pointing guns at each other in locker rooms…NOW WHO'S THE BETTER ROLE MODEL!
How dare he speak about his life that almost wasn't !!! The progressives might be offened as if we are not offened by their adoration of everything abortion.. I like to know why a women has a right to her body when it comes to abortion but not durg use or prostitution.. Not that I condone either but you either have a right or you don't which is it ???
My only complaint is that CBS has turned down all other social issue advertising for the Super Bowl in the past. I think pro-life and Christian-related advertising slot should be sold to anybody with the dough. But the same should apply to everybody else, which in the case of CBS, it obviously doesn't. Open marketplace of ideas and all that.
You are totally right. A woman *should* have the right to use her body in any way she pleases, including birth control, drug use, and commercial sex work.
Because we aren't appreciating how it'll be ignored by those awful proles. It'll be ignored, ignored he says.
(Hm. He used "proles" to describe common folks. Feel the love.)
strike testObservation honed by many years at the gym, dearie. An over-pronounced jaw-line and chin is the earliest and most easily observable aspect of steroid use, particularly when comparing high school and college photos taken only a handful of years apart.
Joe,
You are truly worthless…
Abortion is not birth control, keeping you legs closed is !!! Can't remember the TV show but the saying was " If you can't do the time don't do the crime" so if you can't handle raiseing a baby then keep your legs closed !!!
It is plain to see that the "pro-chice" movement is not about choice. This is a story of one womans choice. Being against this can only really mean that the" pro-choice" movement is really more correctly named the
" abortion only" movement.
Don't know the story because it looks like the typical Media Magician's misdirection to get you to ignore some other story. I prefer to pay attention to the more serious events – http://whatreallyhappened.com/
BTW, the most pro-life people you will find are Muslims.
I do take umbrage that the argument seems that to be a glory-hog is somehow a worthy life. I wonder if the Pro-Life crowd will cover the single mother who chooses not to have an abortion and ends up with a child with long-term health problems.
Why should protecting life, as opposed to murdering babies, be controversial? You don't even have to believe in God, to think we should protect the unprotected and defend the defenseless. Duh!
Where did you get your medical degree? You can actually diagnose someone over the television!! WOW
It is understandable that the left would be so bothered by this young athlete. He wasn't aborted, recognizes Christ as often as he can, frequently paints scripture under his eyes. These are all things that are detestable (to the left). As an unabashed christian spokesman who is also a white male, he is a giant bulls-eye for progressives.
I'm not much for sports, but whenever I see an individual singled out and eviscerated by left-leaning media, I know that it is time to pay attention … that kind of special attention is saved only for apostates and heretics (or as we would call them: conservatives and Christians.)
It's a gift, truly!
The outcry against this ad is so strong, not because the ad is offensive, but because abortion foes have no answer for the argument presented in the add. Tebow would not exist if his mother had followed given advice to get an abortion. 'nough said. Abortion causes PEOPLE to cease to exist. It is so complelling to look at a good human being and realize that he might have been aborted. That is why this argument, and this ad, is so vilely resented and attached.
Way to go Tebow. More importantly, thank you Tebow's mom!
FYI Tebow has confirmed the ad will cover his mom's non-abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/nat5935.html
I think it would be verrrry interesting if a Muslim player were to frequently and proudly proclaim his devotion to Allah and paint Koranic verses under his eyes. All you folks here screaming about religious persecution would be singing a different tune. I'd take that to Vegas.
bullcrap – they openly say that they embrace death as much as Christians embrace life.
Waiting until after you give birth to stone you to death for being raped is not "pro-life."
That's because this ad is not disgusting or immoral like PETA's ads.
Not to mention CBS can do anything they damn well please.
America, bitch slapping Liberals since 1776.
A civilization that does not protect the most vulnerable of its citizens is no civilization at all. Yeah, that's a Christian position. God said, "I knew you before you were formed in the womb." That's actually good enough for me, believe it or not.
If you run fast enough, you might be able to catch the point of this advertisment, because it's obvious you missed it.
Cute, but no. Were he a devout follower of Islam, with Koranic verses painted 'neath his eyes, his prominent religious expression would likely be left alone by the media.
After all, aren't the freedoms of expression and religion our treasured American principles? *unless of course, you happen to be expressing conservative and/or Christian principles*
Yeah, it's much better to just murder the child before he/she ever even gets the chance.
Eugenics: Don't call it a comeback.
Prove it.
The left is a walking, talking hate crime.
I just got it, your real problem is with the Right to free exercise of religion, guaranteed in the First Amendment.
You like to live by that immaginary Constitutional Amendement about Seperation of Church and State, you know, the one that doesn't exist anywhere except in the minds of the left.
"BTW, the most pro-life people you will find are Muslims."
Muslims only believe in retroactive abortions for those who don't believe what they do.
I was going to say that more healthy babies are aborted than non-healthy babies, but your response is even better. Abortion isn't about "choice," it's about cutting down on the "unwanted" (read: unfit) babies.
And the Left would completely ignore it because only expressions of Christian belief are controversial to them.
the simple and elegant answer to the posited question is YES…
Because someone telling a story about their life and the way a choice made a difference is anyway shape of form the same thing as an add posting nothing but a bunch of animals dead with the message that we need to take these people down be it legal, or illegal before they hurt this cow that was put on this earth for us to consume.
See where I am having a problem with your complaint?
I watched Tebow many times in the past few years and I think the photo accompanying this piece has been altered. I don’t remember any time that I saw him suited up that he didn’t have scripture references on his eye black, but there are none in the picture.
Tebow is an excellent role model that I would like my own sons to follow. He’s a great kid and a stand-up guy and I’m proud of him for being willing to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous pro-deathers in order to make his case! And if CBS actually DOESN’T give in to the pressure to remove this ad from the line-up, I’ll have a heckuva lot more respect for them than I do now!
I've got a post on this up on my blog: http://sanityinjection.wordpress.com/2010/01/27/f...
To me there are two issues here: The first is whether it's a good idea for CBS to show controversial political ads during the Super Bowl. The second is whether this is a smart move for Tebow given the NFL's allergy to controversy.
Are you against birth control, too?
By that reasoning being for the death penalty isn't, either.
To Tim Tebow
I'm not entertained with your football playing…for college, it was ok. BUT..you and your mother are to be commended for standing up for life.
Well Done !!
No, you're not following the same line of reasoning at all. Big difference between sentencing someone to death after they've been convicted for a crime like murder. Oh, and they'll get appeal after appeal. But stoning a woman to death for being raped is in the same category in your book? You are one sick puppy.
Maybe because this ad is (or should be in everyone's eyes) as much a pro-choice ad as it is a pro-life ad? It's simply the story of how one woman chose. That is what the pro-choice movement celebrates is it not?
I happen to think PETA are a bunch of idiots, too. But as I said, my or anybody else's opinions should not be able to block somebody else from expressing theirs. But that's not how Christians see things, is it? Why do you hate America?
Abortion isn't birth control.
I think the free exercise is religion is a fine thing. I also know that many (most) Christians believe that too, as long Christianity is the only religion being exercised freely.
You've got it wrong. Muslims are for extremely late term abortions carried out by the method of strapping a bomb to one's body.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et0ho20CJIM
You mean we'd all discriminate like the good people of Arab?
You link to that one exceptional clip as if we all aren't sitting here on the internet, where anti-Muslim hatred is on full display on hundreds of thousands of Christian sites? Please. As an atheist, I have no particular fondness for Islam or any religion, but I'm certainly not blind. Go drop in on the most popular Christian-dominated sites like Free Republic, World Net Daily, etc. Then tell me Christians don't consider this their country entirely and that all others should leave or die.
Oh wait. I just figured it out. Christians get to decide what goes on TV. Sorry, the other non-Christian 60 million Americans and I will just sit here quietly while you folks run the country that is righteously yours. My mistake.
Just because you like to hang around and watch males shower, ahem, "dearie"; is not a medical degree…and thinking its a gift is carrying delusion into dark corridors of the mind that the Obama hangs out in…
Well, I think you've demonstrated just how bereft you are of substance…I think we'll all ignore you from now on…unless you're at the shower again, in which case I hope someone plants your NAMBLA face through the concrete floor…
Actually, they are well versed in KY and gerbils…
SQT,
Dhasselhoff and reasoning…?
non-sequitur
God's Gentle People, at their best. I bet my admin that somebody here would threaten to kill me with 20 comments. Well done! Praise His Name! Glory!
"within 20 comments."
So, are you saying my autistic son has no right to life, Dr. Mengele…?
Have a fatal one vehicle accident REAL SOON, DICKWEED!!!!!
And of course, the *real* beauty in this is that in comes a thread about how unholy it is to kill. Loves it.
Useless Troll alert…!
The ad has not been seen yet, but I understand he and his mother tell THEIR story about HER choice to not have an abortion. I suppose if the pro-choice folks could do a similar ad, but she would have to do it ALONE!
Actually the answer is much more simple…
The MSM does not want a Jihadist to walk into the front offices of their buildings and blowing up their people…
Pure cowardly selfish self-preservation motives…nothing more…
Please explain how I am trolling? I've stayed on topic, been relatively verbose, and have made my rebuttals free of profanity and personal insults. Is a troll merely somebody who disagrees with you? Is this site supposed to an echo chamber of like-minded high-fives or an actual exchange of differing view? Thus far you've called me a child molester and expressed a desire for me to die. And I'm the troll? Really?
GOD bless Tim Tebow! He is salt and light in a world that grows darker every day. It's a damn shame that the most dangerous place for babies in this country is the mother's womb. Since Roe V Wade some 52 million of GOD's little humans have been murdered in the U.S.; It is estimated that the late Dr. Tiller is responsible for 26,000 human sacrifices alone! No, I don't think he should have been shot, as GOD has commanded that vengence is His.
I personally know a former Satanist who has said many times that abortion is Satan's greatest victory, just like Biblical times when the Israelites passed their little children through the fire to Molech.
GOD bless Tim Tebow — a voice crying out in the wilderness.
CBS will increase the number of viewers to the superbowl. The fact that the media is hyping the commercial by painting it as controversial will make it irresistable to even the most fascist of the scumbag liberals. I personally enjoy hearing all the whining from the left. It is a great way for CBS to draw in viewers that would not normally watch the superbowl.
Dear Self-Hating Fool,
I would love to see the look on your face the day you and your kind succeed in eliminating Christianity. On that day, many people such as myself, who are physically powerful, head-strong, and loath the likes of you will be freed from constraint, free to do as we please without fear because, frankly, The Law of the Jungle will be the only law of interest to me.
It will be a fine day when we get to settle so many outstanding scores, ridding the earth of your odious presence and offspring once and for all time.
We shall have fewer offensive jerks, but better offensive jerks.
Sincerely,
Your Bargain with the Devil
Another emotion-driven liberal.
Yes.
Joe's just angry because the LGT and NAMBLA groups get ignored; he's one of those radical "I'm here to shove in your face my inability to keep my sexual behavior personal" people…
AND, since the "Christians" are unwilling to accept his behavior, they are his primary targets…and no one except "Christians" would be against his monomaniacal behavior, ergo, all who oppose his behavior are "Christians"…
Which is why he's here and on about Tebow…or he wants a date…
GOD bless Tim Tebow!
Don't these whiners and moaners thank their mothers every day for being pro-life? Why don't they take out an ad? A woman could appear and say, "I was really having a difficult pregnency, but not to worry. I just told the doc to go ahead and kill little Betty Lou, so now i'm all healthy and ready to go!" Or, "I just can't get enough sex, but I just don't like the feel of protection. But hey, my ole faithfull abortionist is only a block away. So, party party!" And the backup girls sing, "It's all about me, me, me, me, Oh, me, me, me, me, me!"
GOD bless Tim Tebow — a voice crying out in the wilderness over the genicide of our nation's little babies!
It was too much to expect…
I guess it's controversial if you're dead…or if you're offended by living people.
I would say one thing… these commercials are intended to start people SPEAKING about there wears or what they are selling…. look now there is a gay mens site trying to buy time as well…. I have no issues with anyone PAYING there own way to get there own AGENDA out there….. so, all of the FLAP over this ad and a few others are just SILLY what ever your convictions are!
Thank you. You'll be glad you did. God Bless ; )
I know, I know…I'm such an optimist…
You find it moral to politicize abortions?
I'm sure Tiger Woods is pro-choice.
Glenn, you are deranged.
Deal with it…
This Longhorn and McCoy fan supports Tebow and his mother's right to tell their story in this ad. I thought
roChoice was the mother's right to choose. Tebow's mother made her choice. Is it only right to advertise a mother who chooses to kill her child? People that want to support those mother's can run their ad. Since when does someone who buys an ad have to have the abortion believers approval?
Yeah, like that's really worked. I can't turn on my TV without running into people behaving like rutting pigs and you think Christians control what goes on TV?? And, just exactly how does all that filthy behavior, foul language, and mindless tripe benefit you? Are you seriously going to defend the filth that goes out over the public airways these days? Are you still so juvenile that you think saying the "F" word over and over again makes you some kind of mental giant?
Uh, I seem to remember several basketball players and football players sitting out the National Anthem because they were Muslims – looks like someone forgot that.
Sure, Muslims hafta be "pro – life" or another Muslim WILL KILL THEM.
Sure, and then if junior wants a bike that's too expensive, in your world – you just KILL 'EM!
That'll save $$$$ too, right?
If you don't want to feed 'em – KILL 'EM…you would have fit in well in the Stalinist Soviet Union.
Me too, and yup.
Abortion/Pro Death supporters are natually "uncomfortable" being exposed to the truth of the GENOCIDE they push.
Let's keep 'em uncomfortable.
Whee! Another Christian death threat! God's Gentle People….they shoot…THEY SCORE!
Ya, actually they do report on a child with long-term problems. They are mad at Sarah Palin's daughter for keeping her child too. So abort when they are healthy, abort when they are not. Whatever you do abort abort abort!!!
Stupid arguments…don't be happy that someone with great talents is alive instead of aborted and don't be happy that someone who loves and works with their disabled children.
So much is to be learned from people with disabilities and from people who care for those with disabilities.
Quit trying to make life so "easy" for everyone. You don't become a better person if you abort every "problem' that comes along.
So because you don't want to watch something, I don't get decide for myself? I couldn't care less what you think of my taste or intelligence. YOU don't get to tell other people what they can or should watch. I presume you own a remote and (hopefully) have opposable thumbs. Use them. Unless, of course, somebody is forcing you to watch smut, like, at gunpoint. In that case, you should totally call 911.
Oh, I haven't forgotten that. YOU, however, have conveniently forgotten the death threats they received. Use your Google machine.
Jervis wrote (spewed):”Then tell me Christians don’t consider this their country entirely and that all others should leave or die.” Well, you finally have the point…get out.
So we agree. You don't believe in democracy, free exchange of ideas, or freedom of religion. This is a Christians-only country and all of us 60+ million non-Christian Americans have no business living here. Your is a theocratic America, where only your version of white, Godly, Christian culture will be allowed. Please let us know where we'll be boarding the trains, I want to make sure I get a seat.
Darn. You forgot to threaten to kill me. That IS how the Christians on this site tend to handle people they disagree with, you know.
Dude, have *been* to Venezuela? I mean, Caracas is sort of OK, I guess. Decent subway and the weather is sort of Miami-ish, if you like it super-muggy all the time. But after a couple of weeks, you really can't look at another giant steak and start to seriously jones for some decent Chinese or Thai. It's like moving into Ruth's Chris for, like, ever.
Ditto to M and even though Tebow gave lots of defenders headaches, it was he who was on the receiving end of the concussion- vs. UK Wildcats. Of course, trolls do not understand contact sports.
wah wah wah
I think he will never make it in the NFL
Oops, your hatred is showing…
One thing I can't reconcile is this: Say you see someone about to commit a murder, is it not right to prevent it if you are capable? Apply that to a frivolous abortion.
So… it's right to stop the murder of an adult but not a child who happens to still be in the womb?
That's a tad wonky, if not a completely disgusting point of view.
Fair enough. I will help you pack.
Without looking it up I think the trend is AWAY from abortion.
Not getting knocked up in the first place is a good start.
True, though – these supporters of death are interested in leftist policy – not saving innocent babies.
Perhaps if the pro-deathers simply ran a competing ad showing a woman celebrating the fact that she killed her child and that it has brought great joy into her life.
Then both sides would have their points made and the viewers could judge and make up their minds.
Margaret Sanger would be very happy in her grave, along with her progressive followers. Sanger understood the importance of abortion in selective breeding.
I am pro choice. I dont consider this a liberal or conservative issue as some here do. Nor do I believe all pro life advocates are religous nuts. I believe that for anyone who hasn't been faced with the decision of me or the baby, or bringing the baby into a situation that holds no hope for a child, then a rush to judgement is unfair. I wish we lived in a world where this decision would never have to be made. But, unfortunately, in many cases, I feel that decision is justified. I am sadly aware that where there is a choice on anything, that choice will be abused (freedom of speech, the ghastly evolution of pornography), but I feel that a wholesale judgement based on those who do abuse this choice is unfair. I do feel that name calling and grandstanding does nothing to aid a solution or at least a balance middle ground.
No it is not controversial, in the same way the private decision to have an aborition is not.
What a happy life you must have.
Wow, how uplifting must your life be – you're just another grain of sand on the beach, meaningless to anyone here on earth. Poor thing. Daddy's absent, huh?
Wow the left is really threatened by this one aren't they. The truth is they don't want to remind Americans how many potentially great kids were aborted in light of the mess we as a country are in today. They want you to believe when someone says you should abort that baby because you can't give it the life it deserves that you should believe them and end it's life. I believe we are well over 14 million potentially great kids aborted since it roe vs wade. Oh ya what is the name of that big business abortion factory that gave millions to the Democrats in the last election. Planned something or other.
Well, that's the thing about God, isn't it? He loves innocent children so much, he kills the crap out of them by the millions every year. Why, abortionists are hardly a spot on God's Holy Death Machine! Look at Haiti! Man, that right there was Hall of Holy Fame day for G-O-D. I hope the writers put him up for MVP this year, his stats are outta control!
Sports is a celebration of life! There are thousands of inspirational stories from battles on the field to the adversities overcome by individual athletes. Tim's story is a wonderful less in trusting God, working hard, performing with excellence, and showing character. Any liberal or progressive against this story condemns him/herself….
attn: Joe Jervis / dont waste your time in Vegas… go to Venezuela. And stay.
Hmm? Actually, from his description it won't be Christians who kill you because you helped eliminate that religion.
Please feel free to play the oh-so-threatened would-be martyr with all the sappiness you can dredge up.
Should I point out that not everyone here who disagrees with him is particularly religious? Just to increase his paranoia, of course.
Ah, the representative from Manpower, Inc. of Mesa has spoken.
(Outer edge of the onion, apparently. No real value.)
I say put the gay ad on let us all have a good laugh. I can see it now everyone turning to the person next to them raging on them saying isn't that the dating service you use lol. Might even be #1 commercial after we all stop laughing. Have another beer and lets get back to the game.
The hypocrisy of these liberal femi-nazi's is the fact they're ANGRY about an advertisement that shows another woman, a mother, making a CHOICE NOT to abort her child, but to take the risk that most immoral women don't. Basically, if you call yourself someone who's PRO-CHOICE and find it offensive that there are some women like Mrs. Tebow who made such a politically incorrect CHOICE, calling a person like that a hypocrite would be terribly understated.

Hell, I wanted to let him know, a la Vic Mackey, what kind of Christian I was…
"Good Christian and bad Christian have left for the day. I'm a different kind of Christian…"
And he should be paranoid…because there are a LOT like me…
Oh so now it turns out the entire Tebow/Focus On The Family as is a fraud. Mrs. Tebow most definitely did not "choose" not to have an abortion as she was living in the Philippines at the time. And abortion was illegal there. Wow. Some great big Godly "moral choice." CBS is now going to be sued for false advertising, should the ad run. I love it. Another lying hypocritical Christianist SHOT DOWN. Boo-YAH!
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2010/01/exc...
Cocaine, Theft and Murder are illegal in the U.S. I guess that's why we don't see any of them stateside, eh?
Before it was 'legalized' there were plenty of abortions performed in the United States. I have this curious suspicion that the situation was the same in the Philippines.
Exactly the info I needed for my Muslim dating blog. Thanks!
Interesting article. Were did you got all the information from…
The response to national disaster is awesome but it’s a real shame that so many people take advantage of the negative situations.
I mean everytime there is an earthquake, a flood, an oil spill – there’s always a group of heartless people who rip off tax payers.
This is in response to reading that 4 of Oprah Winfreys “angels” got busted ripping off the system. Shame on them!

WTF! – How do animals like Bernaldo Bicoy – who is a twice convicted child sex offender get bail?
This punk faked himself as a lawyer and business investor consultant to win trust of adolescents. Out of all people, the system lets him out on bail!
Damn streets of Lake Forest are hazardous. Who do we petition?
The action taken to local and national disasters is great but it’s a damn shame that so many citizens take advantage of the sad situations.
