Howard Kurtz, host of Reliable Sources on CNN and a Washington Post columnist, corrected, “in the history of civilization.” The liberal Brown quickly agreed, “In the history of civilization, incredible.”

Of course he did. Since Palin just spoke at the National Tea Party Convention, the comparison of coverage between the two makes it more than obvious. The prime example is the "digging into the background" comparison. For Palin, "no stone unturned" was the order of the day, for Obama, it was an "unecessary distraction and/or racism."

Much of the anger in the Tea Party is directly tied to the shameless way the media hawked this president. They did not spend any time vesting who he was, only glossed over any negatives. Now the backlash is not only the formation of the Tea Party but a total mistrust of MSM. America was duped. And they are afraid that corporations will corrupt the political process? Of course he got fawning coverage and to a large degree, he still does. The effect is interesting, because the ruinous economy that Obama exacerbated has ruined many media entities. People don't trust the 'Big Three' networks anymore, and the only places you find TIME and Newsweek are in dentist and doctors offices. Katie Couric is now utterly humiliated because her big bucks didn't deliver viewers. So the crossroads for the Leftist media came when people started to mock and then ignore them. They started to realize that the road they were on was to their detriment. You're seeing more 'push-back' from the media because their credibility is tied to how much of that they do.

The MSM press is, even today, busier analyzing the effect of Todd Palin's emails on Palin's term in Alaska than it is analyzing the effect of Obama and company domestically or internationally. The same thing happened during the campaign. We learned more about Bristol's sex life or Sarah's shoes, hair and eyeglasses than we did about Obama's stands or positions on any important issue. If we dared to question anything about Obama (and I did), we were labeled "racist" because, we were told, it was so "obvious" that the Harvard Law Review Editor was so much smarter and more competent than the illiterate woman from Wasilla who was (and still is) accused of holding her Downs Syndrome baby as a prop. Meanwhile, as the doting Obama worshippers figure out the real meaning of "Buyer's Remorse," I'm thrilled that I'm not one of the idiots scraping Obama/Biden bumer stickers off of a Prius that can't get through the 32 inches dumped on Washington and surrounding areas yesterday.

If one has a memory, it will occur that there were two media creations devised as weapons in the media's 8-year negative campaign against George W Bush. One was Cindy Sheehan, and the other was the empty vessel Barack Obama. Both were successful motormouths, glib on the attack.
Sheehan was the soap-opera queen, whose 'camp' in Texas was populated mostly by MSM reporters, eagerly hanging on every word of hers for consumption by the sentimental and 'caring' part of the public. She was given lavish press coverage at will (sort of like the anti-Toyota campaign of today), as a stick to beat Bush with, until the campaign for the 2008 elections got into its warmups. They they unceremoniously drained her and dumped her. Obama was the man.
Obama was the grandest anti-Bush the MSM had ever dreamed of. A true con man, who could make every kind of listener know immediately that her wishes would come true if Obama were put in charge. A 'community organizer' – a man of the left! One of us! Saying all the right things – out of Iraq, right now! Spread the wealth around! PC in all attributes, with a (wink wink) 'centrist', bring-us-all-together type of campaign. They enlisted in brigade strength.
The MSM fell for him so hard that they are still carrying water for him. Oh, after a year in office, now and then a pinpoint of light pierces the reporterial dark, but those fade immediately – unlike the Abu Ghraib and anti-Toyota media campaigns. They sent eleven reporters to Anchorage to dig dirt on Sarah Palin – they sent none to Chicago, to California, to Hawaii, to Indonesia, to Boston, to investigate the closed-record educational and activist past of the man who might become the most powerful leader in the world. At about the same time, the news media got caught on the wrong side of new technology. The internet made it easier and cheaper to get news from many sources.
In this last election, the news media went all out to get Obama in the White House. In my opinion, the news media just slit their own throats. They have lost even the illusion of being impartial. If people don't trust what you might say, they are not going to bother listening. As the news media's revenues continue to drop, they will head to Washington and demand truck loads of cash. They may or may not have noticed that Obama has little trouble tossing his supporters under the bus. If they do get their bailout, it will only further alienate the country.

You are forgetting the MSM and its cheerleading for the War in Iraq when the military corporate complex first started it. I know they turned on it some 3 or 4 years later, but during the run-up to that stupid and costly war, the MSM was trumpeting the idea of weapons of mass destruction with the same fervour they later showed for Obama despite lots of professional opinions and information that showed fairly conclusively there were no WMD's in Iraq. They ignored reality, and herded the American people into support for a war that has cost us trillions and helped to ruin our economy.
So the problem we have is not just Obama, it is a MSM that has decided advocacy for iniatives of the wealthy and the powerful is its calling. What we want to see from journalists instead is honesty and impartiality and probity.

It's how everything gets done, from the Chinese gulags in Tibet to the massive transfer of wealth to Wall Street executives in New York. We have a world in which power is massively centralized, and power is nothing more than the motivation and manipulation of people. In that same world, the Internet has opened up information to the ordinary person in a new and very threatening way. So what happens next? A very interesting time. The Chinese have decided they will simply control and censor the Internet and prevent dilution of their message. What will the MSM in places like America do? Okay, McCain would not be nearly as good as we would have liked, but the list R_Swift wrote is pretty much correct. (Two exceptions, I would not trust him not to "reach across the aisle" to do a democratic style health care "reform" with a Republican stamp on it, and he would be pushing for banamnesty right now.) And Sarah Palin would surely be a better backup than the moron that sits behind Barry.
All that being said, maybe we are better off with Barry in the White House right now, because the heat is suddenly full on, and we frogs are fully awake. It would have just continued the slow heat with McCain, and i don't think Sarah would have been allowed to interfere.
