CNN hit new low viewership totals during prime time Friday night (8-11pm) in both Total Viewers and A25-54 viewers.
Sure, the opening of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver had something to do it. But even so –
Up against NBC’s Olympic Opening Ceremony coverage, CNN averaged just 85,000 A25-54 viewers during Campbell Brown (8p), Larry King (9p) and Anderson Cooper (10p). An average that low has not been seen since May, 23, 2001. And the Total Viewer average of 382,000 was the lowest since Dec. 23, 2005.
The other guys must have taken a hit, too — right?
And while all the cable news channels saw reduced viewing levels due to the massive audience that flocked to NBC — only CNN saw its audience cut in half from Thursday night in both younger viewers and Total Viewers.
What could possibly explain this? ’Tis a puzzlement:

I watch CNN and view CNN.com to compare what I find on FOX; and then google for further comparisons. CNN has some great people and had a good handle on the news. But even it's headline news program has fallen off. It's just not reporting the news. It does way too much opinion, and is far from delivering balanced content.
Too bad. It had a huge following and has a great brand name.
It's obvious that CNN's regular viewers decided to tune in to the Winter Olympics instead… to obtain their daily snowjob.

I quit watching CNN when they admitted that they were in Iraq during Saddam's rule, knew of the atrocities he was committing and said nothing so they could stay in the country.

I have a theory of why CNN is falling so fast. One-no one ares about Larry King anymore,. He stopped being relevant in the 80s, and even then it was iffy. His interviews are pure fluff.
Anderson Cooper? A probably decent man stuck at a channel where moral cultural ambiguity reins, ridicule of all things conservative is de rigeur, and statism is becoming the new business model. Campbell Brown? Please.
People may hate O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, and the entire Fox programming format, but there's a reason they are successful- the are not afraid to put credible people on with whom they disagree and mix it up. They actually let views be heard by people who aren't mere cartoons of their opposing philosophy. It is funny when liberals accuse Fox of being a 'right wing echo chamber', when you can turn on CNN and see three liberals and some conservative extremist no one's ever heard of being pummeled into submission and being called 'fair'. They can say whatever they want, tell themselves whatever they want, and cling to whatever delusions they want, but the American people by and large are not stupid and the ratings don't lie.
It would be interesting to plot the total salaries of the failing networks to the total number of viewers. For two cable networks in particular, there is a huge divide between these measures. The situation seems analogous to the federal government's deficits to spend wildly though the revenues fall far short for achieving a balanced budget.

Here's the difference as I see it: CNN would jump off a bridge if Obama said so. Fox, contrary to popular opinion, did not automatically agree with everything the previous administration said or did, (anyone who doubts that should check out Ann Coulter's take on Scott McClellan's book on H&C, I think its still on youtube), and I think that's starting to sink in. The msm is NOT acting like an extension of checks and balances, they're acting like an infomercial.
CNN will have to turn conservative in order to turn the corner. Otherwise they will end up in the trash heap of failed projects. Some possibilities to improve include:
Change the name of the network
Get rid of 80 % of network personalities (yes, go gangsta)
Hire Tea Party folks to fill the void
Please, please…..throw Larry King out to pasture…you could have an annual special with Larry interviewing cows

The folks who run CNN made a decision a long time ago to be (one of) the propaganda organs of the Democrat Party. They will continue to double down on that decision even though they have clearly made a ruinous business decision. Eventually they will go to the government to "subsidize" them, just like the print media is now looking to become government subsidized "non-profits". We can only hope that when that day comes, they will find the government run by huge majorities of CONSERVATIVE Republicans.

I watch FOX 99.9% of the time. I have to opine that Hannity is not capable of allowing a guest to finish a sentence…his style just annoys me while I believe he still has good intentions. O'Reilly simply shapes his opinion/talking points to alternate day to day.

I watch fox news exclusively, but last night watched two or three minutes of CNN just out of curiousity, not having been on that channel for such a long time. When the guest on the Rachel Maddox show referred to the interrogations of terrorists as "sadistic" I remembered why I never watch CNN, and tuned back to fox news.
Did you see how Wolf Blitzer embarrassed himself when he participated in the celebrity special of the tv game show with Andy from the Leno show and one other celebrity guest? Blitz performed so poorly in answering the questions that it was painful to watch. To think that empty talking heads like him who can't say hello without their teleprompter have the nerve to criticize Palin. . .

I watched CNN from ~1980 -2002. Even though they came to be know as the "Clinton News Network" they still had up to date real news. What went terribly wrong? I have no clue — and I bet neither do they. I guess that after 9-11 I started watching Fox most of the time and the rest is history. I always thought Lou Dobbs had the best financial news program ever by the way. Now and then, but hardly ever, I switch on CNN and after 30 seconds I ask myself "huh"? What happened?

CNN isn't the left wing microphone they used to be. It seems that they have tried to be somewhere between MSNBC and Fox News, and that apparently is too boring to draw viewers in. People today don't want the news, they want their views validated in the mask of news programming. I myself am a Fox News guy, but I also know what I'm getting, that's why the channel gets changed before Hannity comes on.

CNN has had several terrible moments in the past (like when they rigged the 2008 Republican debate), but for some reason, Cooper's "teabagger" comment completely soured me on the network. It was one of those quick, underhanded jabs that reveal a true depth of bias more than an obvious mission statement ever could.

I stopped reading and watching CNN when they aired the killing of an American soldier by an Al Qaeda in Iraq sniper. CNN is no friend to the U.S. military which is ironic, as the military ensures their "freedom of speech." Bastards! Now I don't have cable or satellite TV at all and, you know what, I don't miss it (well, I miss FoxNews, but I can get that on the internet).
