Breaking Up Is Hard to Do
The press finally falls out of love with Obama.
In Newsweek, Howard Fineman says it’s over:
The “mainstream media” are losing patience with, and even interest in, their erstwhile hero. President Barack Obama never had a chance with the Ailes-Murdoch crowd, of course, and it didn’t take the president long to offend the fierce left wing of the blogosphere. But now, finally, the MSM, which views itself as ideologically neutral, has found ideologically neutral reasons to lose patience with him: that he may be ineffectual; that he doesn’t know how to play the game; that he can’t get anything done. Exhibit A: the health-care bill. The Times’s Frank Rich, the astute dean of the commentariat, wrote recently that Obama has failed to “communicate a compelling narrative” in office and, as a result, “could be toast if he doesn’t make good on a year’s worth of false starts.”
Leaving aside for the moment the hilarious statement that Frank Rich, the erstwhile “Butcher of Broadway,” showbiz wannabe and non-bestselling author, is now the “astute dean of the commentariart” — wonder what David Broder has to say about that? — this would seem on the surface to be that moment in the movie when the hero realizes he’s been duped all along and now must take charge of the situation and expose the bad guys for who they really are:
But since this is, after all, Howard Fineman, one ought not to take these brave words of independence at face value. And sure enough, one would be right not to:
And yet this collective falling out of love is great news for Obama. Calling it quits with the MSM is just what he needs. A breakup might even save his presidency.
Now that this deviously clever psywar operation has been revealed, Fineman goes on to explain:
For one thing, almost no one likes or trusts the media. The latest Gallup survey of respected institutions puts us down with the worst of the riffraff: banks, labor unions, HMOs, and Congress. If we attack you, it only proves you must have some redeeming qualities. That jujitsu even worked in an odd and unexpected way for Bill Clinton. At the height of the Monica Lewinsky crisis in 1998, polls showed voters were not only appalled by Clinton’s behavior, they were appalled by the media’s obsession with it.
Yeah, right: it was all the media’s fault!
On the other hand, though…
Obama needs to stop caring what we all write and say, a process he can start by abandoning the comfortable but incapacitating illusion that reporters are his friends. He can’t and shouldn’t rely on us to translate for him. We’ll get it wrong. And we’re the foulest of fair-weather friends. We read the polls, too, and when they plummet, we run. Yet until now, Obama has justifiably regarded the MSM as part of his base, as one of his constituencies. In fact, he thinks of himself as one of us: a member of the chattering class; a bestselling author; op-ed page habitué; student of the craft of writing, reporting, and analyzing. I asked the White House for the president’s daily reading material. Here is the list I got back: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, NEWSWEEK (a man of taste, this president), Time, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, “blogs,” Foreign Affairs, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN.com. “Bottom line is that he reads a ton,” I was told. Sure, we need the readers, but maybe that’s a few pounds too many.
Got whiplash yet? If not, why not?

The president's daily reading material? I call BS. Five newspapers, three weekly magazines, a few monthlies, plus blogs and ESPN.com? Or are we talking glancing at the headlines and reading all the articles about him? That I would believe. Either that or he reads this stuff while he's jetting in Air Force One for another campaign…er, I mean speaking appearance. The only other explanation is that he's so busy reading, he doesn't have time to actually do his job.
As to Fineman's comments, they sound an awful lot like "we're not worthy" to me.
Let me get this straight: When the MSM criticizes Obama, that is to Obama's credit because it proves he must have some redeeming qualities. Yet when the MSM criticized Bush, that was to Bush's discredit because . . . . well, because he was an idiot and deserved whatever criticism he got.
"Obama needs to stop caring what we all write and say"
Obombus needs to remember that he isn't the boss, the American People are.
I deal with this very subject, kind of, in the third Useful Idiots strip.
As I said on my blog when he was elected, there is only way you can go in the media's eyes when they put you on a pedestal that high, down. They love to worship idols with feet of clay, then dismantle them.
Obama will continue to blow it and they will feel betrayed for having promoted him. They will then attack him to try to show that they are "fair" after writing sickening puff pieces about him for the last two years. It will become a pile on eventually, like Tiger Woods or Edwards,. And just wait until Republicans have power again and they start investigating his administration. Look out.
I have four words for Obama: Resign while there's time.
He will, of course, stay till the bitter end. But if he gets out early he might avoid the debacle that awaits him.
Tell Fineman to take two aspirins and call me in the morning.
Mr Ross, all due respect I will have to see a lot more before I even beginn to consider this love affair to be cooling..
I'm not buying it….
I wouldn't trust that apparatchik Comrade Fineman as far as I can throw him…
What a wishy-washy article. First he tries to claim that the MSM is no longer in Obama's pocket, then goes on to say that Obama is better off just doing whatever the hell he wants– don't mind the "contrary" press. This type of nonsensical b.s. does nothing to dispel the notion of a liberally-biased press. It just continues to expose them as the idiots they are.
James I couldn't agree with you more. when the conservatives regain power. he will have some splaining' to do…
"And just wait until Republicans have power again and they start investigating his administration. Look out."
Oh please God!
I don't believe Obama reads further than the crib notes on the Daily Kos. Anyone who's ever been President has talked about how little time there is to do anything but read the briefings prepared by the staff. He's a complete suck-up to the MSM, and in return he expects them to treat him like the savior he sees himself as.
We all know Fineman is a moron. Newseek and Time have become a mockery of journalism meets the National Enquirer (my apologies to the Enquirer for accusing them of being as irresponsible as Time or Newsweek).
Off subject James, there are many deletions by site administrators on different stories and many of us are very surprised by this. Is it possible that there would be a list of rules we could look at and see why this is happening? Is it determined by the author of an article? It comes off very anti-free speech and we would like to know what is up…cause many of us feel our statements are pretty benign at times….I do know we don't want to be anything like the Daily Kos or Huffpo.
If the MSM is disillusioned by Obama and that's a big If, it's because they were suffering from an illusion in the first place. This is what happens when you put false unvetted Gods with no real credentials before you. Damn Fellers that's the First Commandment.
Unless they are reported…then they are deleted. I know this from experience after being called a Zionist whore…
I don't believe I would ever be able to trust the MSM ever again in my life…once burned, twice learned….
Next time you see him let me know I'll kick his as*.
Experience is the name so many people give to their mistakes.

A slobbering love affair?
The MSM is drooling rabidly all over their patent leather pumps……….
Col. Mustard and Flinder Flander who deleted his account. I think they are one in the same person. I am beginning to suspect Randy (who is a guest) is the same too. Only time will tell…there is a pattern I see with the stalking.
Couldn't laugh hard enough when Mark Levin played "The Last Post" for Countbrown with Keefe Dobermann. The Precedent is The MSM coverboy and hopefully they sink with him.
It is very hard even to understand what this guy says. It is once self-reverential "In fact, he thinks of himself as one of us: a member of the chattering class; a bestselling author; op-ed page habitué; student of the craft of writing, reporting, and analyzing." (which is natural for "journalists")
But then there is the "we're not worthy" because they "get it wrong".
I suspect that he's bummed because his beloved isn't doing better in the polls.
This guy needs more than aspirin…he needs a real job.
Aahh the usual suspects, i should have known…
Yes indeed…my usual tactics are not as effective with him….I am rethinking my troll philosophy with him….I will figure it out…I am a stubborn woman! ;^)
Please direct all queries about the site administration to me directly.
We have been having some issues with the filters on intensedebate for the past few days. It is nothing personal. Please bear with us. Thanks.
Fool me once my bad, fool me twice their bad….I would say they have over a million bad's on my list!
We love ya Lorben (in a plutonic ideological way ;p) and we have your net back! Missy8 was talking about a creep that shadows her, following her from site to site. Creepy.
Fineman says – "But now, finally, the MSM, which views itself as ideologically neutral, has found ideologically neutral reasons to lose patience with him."
That says all we need to know about Fineman, a well know liberal hack who attempts to seem objective. The MSM has been in the tank for Obama since BEFORE day one. They were pimping him over Hillary when this was still a Hillbilly v, Obama primary race. They went into full climax mode by the time the GOP nominated good ol' Charlie Brown – Mr. Bland and RINO – John McCain.
The MSM isn't, hasn't and will never be "ideological neutral". Even claiming that shows their bias. Sheesh!
The R's rarely do the dirt-digging investigations that the D's love to threaten, oh that they would.
The R's are usually trying to straighten up the mess, they only want to get busy, charge forward
toward progress & stability. If we want investigations we will have to push hard & get commit-
ments from candidates before we elect them.
Thank you! I only wish I could have all of you over for a Barbecue….I make the meanest ribs in the Pacific Northwest….my kids will tell you that. We would have great fun talking politics….saving the world. Heaven is coming my friend! Thanks for your encouragement! Please God, save our country!
Not to worry…This little spat is just a lovers quarrel. They know he can and will get it right, eventually…
Besides, they're so heavily invested in him now, selling him short would be out of the question…Down deep, they have a ideological love for Obama….He's sooo cooool…
Think they'll file for divorce and start up with, say… Paul Ryan…??? Not bloody likely..
I wish you were my neighbor! I must admit I do have some fine neighbors that will be wonderful to have when the defecation hits the rotating oscillator….God is good and will provide somehow! Thanks cornpone!
Thank you Lorben, you brighten up the "Big Sites".
Maybe A.B. will have a "posters" convention in L.A. or Vegas someday. Everybody bring the hubbies and wives and have a cocktail party or a BBQ like you suggested. One day…
I'd be in like Flynn.
nope, never. In the old network days (late 60's – early to mid 70's) I remember my Dad YELLING at the TV in anger.
Alternative media like A.B. has given us is my salvation.
Look below…we may have answers soon to the deletions of site admins!
Yes, Your Majesty!
No, Your Majesty!
Tell us how low to go, Your Majesty!
Make some more decrees, Your Majesty,
Don't let us up off out knees, Your Majesty.

Give us a kick, if you would, Your Majesty!
Oh! That was good, Your Majesty!
~~ Your admirers in the MSM
Early last year a reporter asked Odumbo what he was reading. He reeled off a few things including a novel (slips my mind what it was), ok fine. A few months later another reporter asked him basically the same question. He includes the same novel in his reading list. (?)
I say here and I say again, I think Obama is the laziest president ever. He seems intellectually lazy and he's obviously ignoring the polling.
If Paul Ryan were just a bit younger, I would actively recruit him to be my future son-in-law.
You know, he may be as intellectually brilliant as everyone says he is, but being this lazy kind of negates any brilliance he possesses. The more I hear, the more I see, the more I read, Obama is just a lazy person when it comes to anything except campaigning. There he gets a narcissistic adulation fix, the only thing that even gets him moving.
Who knows? They'll probably throw Obama under the bus after the November elections make clear he is out of favor with the American people. But they'll never become conservative; quit hoping for it. instead, get out there and work hard to make sure conservative candidates are elected despite the MSM. Nobody cares about them any more either; they'll just latch on to some new upstart liberal.
Wow. These guys don't touch reality anywhere anymore.
I see Paul Ryan in everybody's future…Talk about a MAN who understands…
I haven't trusted them in 22 years …That's 1988…think about the flashpoint in that year. August…'88..Nuf said..
Iran Contra Affair? I admit I was barley conscious of things then…three small daughters needing nurturing was my lot in life….I realize now I should have been more aware. I ask forgiveness every night. I do know that God has his plan whether I am aware or not!

I admit I do not know what it is you are speaking of….I am showing my ignorance here~
No Iran Contra…RUSH EIB…I don't think I've missed more then a handful of weeks since…Changed the Conservative movement from lame stream to mainstream…eventually…
Read 'em and weep MSM zombies…
We love Rush…My husband and I listen as much as we can. Our youngest daughter and her fiancee listen to him as much as their schedules allow too…We love our future son-in-law…Rush has given us an education we never knew we needed. And I thank God for him…his optimism keeps me going through the days of despair we are living through now…I pray we survive the coming days with the despot who would like to take over our nation and bring us to our knees….I pray for you and lol too!
LOL has to work most days sept Fridays but definitely loves Rush in spite of some minor faults…Not too many on the LA Plains listen but I always tell those that complain about him when I have him on.."I find those that like him the least, NEED him the most" and they shut up….Nite now…You like my new avatar???
the key to someone's psyche is what he reads on the toilet. !!
I admit I cannot identify it….I am stuck in the country to much….kind of like it that way really! Sorry HPD! You are a great patriot in my eyes truly….I am just a country bumpkin!
That's PO'ed Clint in Gran Torino.. Kind of an old koot like the fantum…
They keep deleting my good posts so I'm PO'ed..
I knew it was Clint, but could not place the movie….I have not seen Gran Torino yet, I am waiting for DVD…suppose I should see if it out yet. Time gets past me these days!
Check out this post on Big….I made a plea for us with the deletions that are happening all over…Look for James Hudnell's post and follow it all the way through…it is encouraging.

Sorry, this is the stream….read James Hudnall's stream above….sorry, I have had a few glasses of wine….and it is effecting my thought processes…
As a nearly life-long atheist I've never had much truck with the first commandment, but I've got to say it is becoming clear to me that this is s MEANINGFUL commandment. And apart from this administration, the other things that people worship are just as insane. Michael Medved (?) often cites the saying "he who does not believe in God will believe in anything" and it has become obvious this is so – from The Anointed One to Gaeia/MMGW to Liberalism (Marxism, Nazism, Elitism, all the same in practice) to Satanism to crass materialism… There really is something instructive in that first commandment, even for us doubters.
Ooh, that felt so good! LOL
Filter problems.
[...] Is The Media’s ‘Slobbering Love Affair’ With Obama Over — Or Is It All A Ruse? [...]
Of course they are drooling…still are…the entire generation of so-called journalists, were indoctrinated into this mind set, from the first grade! I saw on tv yesterday, where some conservatives actually got to win a few rounds, and were allowed some input into text books, there were college students outside raising h e l l because the text books were not completely liberal!! One boy actually said that they didn't want any conservative crap in their schools! God help us!!
Well, with all the fawning and slobbering over his latest announcement, to repeal No Child Left Behind, I'd say the answer is no, it's very much alive and still thriving.
Obama promise: Brighter education futures for kids
Obama unveils 'No Child' changes
National School Standards, at Last
Obama's overhaul of education law to focus on rewarding rather than punishing schools (Yeah, ignoring the failures and continuing to throw good money, the people's money, after bad.)
Obama leaves behind 'No Child Left Behind'
Obama's 'No Child' Redo Rewards Schools for Progress
Local educators appreciate Obama plan's emphasis on rewards
Educators, advocacy groups, praise changes in education law
Obama promises education rewrite…Republicans blast health overhaul
Obama spearheads nationwide assault on public schools
is it still buggered up?
as of 0542 central it was "Your comment must be approved by the site admins before it will appear publicly." how asinine
You make a great point.
Why is it that I do not believe a darn thing that Howard Fineman says or writes?
Nothing is real in ObaMao world. Every damned thing is a stratagem.
While quivers run up their legs……….or was that dribbles down? Disgusting either way.
Hmmm…made a post and site admin gobbled it up………..These idjits are nothing but a bumbling herd of sheep. The goats are even asleep at the helm.
Fineman has himself convinced that the media know longer is in love with their God the Mighty OdumBO but he's full of chit, the media was ,is and always will be in love with this fool.
Is this the same 'Newsweek' that has plastered someone from the Obama family on their cover YET AGAIN? If you want to boost your readership beyond the Leftist choir you already preach to, you'd 'pretend' that the honeymoon is over so you might attract some of those lost readers back. Howard's ploy has no chance of working.
You betca to quote a famous hockey mom…
That's right! Nobody trusts the press anymore and they have themselves to thank. Their arrogance and self serving propaganda is rivaled only by that of the politicians they serve.
I am thankful for your response. I have had many friends on here questioning what is going on. It has been an ongoing question for many of us. I thought maybe James would give us a clue….We would like to know if you have parameters we need to abide by…it seems some of our comments are somewhat benign and other comments are so appalling…we are stymied! Thank you for your response…give us a clue!
You can't be as deep in the tank for Obama and suddenly have second thoughts. Media hacks and politicians have one thing in common; neither will admit they were wrong, their egos won't allow it. I'll trust both to do exactly what they're good at: lying.
If President Obama reads that entire list of publications every day, it's no wonder he complains about how difficult it is to be him, of being tired and not having enough hours in the day to get things done. And it expalins his stubborn, heels-dug-in approach to governing. The publications he reads support much of his agenda and take on those who oppose it, which is most of the American people. Reading the NYT, avoiding Fox News and dismissing the Tea Partiers doesn't provide the President with a balanced view of the country's mood and a cogent explanation of why it's so lousy. In other words, Mr. President, the American people aren't uninformed and stupid just because the NYT says so.

Obama doesn't think he's boss. Obama thinks that he is the KING. Big difference. A boss might answer to someone, a king thinks he doesn't.
No one can take Fineman seriously. He is just a bobble-head for Keith Olbermann. How low can you get?
The MSM always tries to protray Democrat Presidents as voracious intellectuals who are avid readers. Remember the stories of Bubba reading 6 books at at time? Remember the press peeing in their collective britches when Clinton would emerge from Air Force One with a big thick book in hand as if he had spent time reading instead of groping the flight attendents?
Of course, the main accusation thrown at Republicans like Bush and Palin is "they aren't readers."
Too late to distance yourself from " The One" Howie. The msm is now recognized, quite rightly as you yourself mention, as ass kissing, lying, sychophants. Capable of any lies or obsfucation or bias to manipulate the " proles". The problem is for you Howie that people have awakened to the con job. You finally went too far in your prostitution Howie. It used to be said, the only thing worse than a politician was a child molester, but now the msm and politicians are even worse than child molesters. My God, how richly you have earned your position of hate and disgust. Gotta-wanna-make-ya puke.
That is too much to hope for. The MSM is just retooling its "rationalization engine" to come up with newer Orwellian approaches to canonizing St. Barack.
They'll be back with a different tack. Most likely, it will place the entire blame on his failing presidency on us, the vast horde of barbarians who staunch his every gentle and well-intentioned attempt to drag us into the "light of socialism."
The hubris displayed by Barry and his galloping circus of sycophants is in need of new definition. "Hubris" seems to mild a term to describe what we're witnessing. My thesaurus and its online cousin, Word's thesaurus function, yield up no terms to match this bunch's galactic arrogance. Wikipedia's definition begins to approach it, but still falls way short: "Hubris (also hybris) means extreme haughtiness or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of touch with reality and overestimating one's own competence or capabilities, especially for people in positions of power."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubris
I haven't been treated like this by anyone wielding power over my life since I was in kindergarten, and even then, they let me go to the bathroom by myself. I suspect that by the time this bunch is through, there will be only a few approved procedures authorized for that simple evolution, complete with "Can Cams" to make sure we follow them.
It seem our MSM cannot find out where Barry was born or his School Records, how he paid his tuition, what Passports he has etc…etc…etc…. We should hire the "NATIONAL ENQUIRER" to investigate this.. The ONLY paper to Know about John Edwards….A Tabloid surpassing the Elite, Prestigious American Press Corp, time after time. Your journalistic Sheep Skins were a waste of your tuition….!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LORBEN: You are correct about God..After near death 5 years ago I KNEW it was God. I seek Him, I don't know How He is, What He is or where He is……I only know that HE IS….
"Yet until now, Obama has justifiably regarded the MSM as part of his base, as one of his constituencies." I think this is the most telling thing Fineman said–admitting that the MSM has been in bed with Obama from the gitgo.
Thanks for the clarification Lorben. LOL
It's a good thing the MSM set up the Newseum here in DC.
In the not-too-distant future, we'll be able to take our grandchildren there to show them what fossils look like, in addition to the Museum of Natural History.
They don't seem to know it but liberal fascism coupled to their agenda-driven, totally subjective reporting has become the MSM's extinction asteroid.
mmmmm ribs

Well it definitely isn't you Randy12, you are rock solid in my book!!
Well, duh………good morning left wing media. Did you really think this second rate community organizer could be president of the USA? No, really you didn't. The MSM supported BarryO because he is black. The MSM wanted a black president to shove in the face of conservatives. They got one, but the MSM never stopped to think that we needed a leader not a symbol. The irony is pervasive; here all these savvy, smart intellectuals gave us tyhe progeny of their real mentality. You have to laugh.

Don't forget Michelle's designer sneakers…so cool because they cost hundreds and looked like poor women's sneakers….
"Anyone who's ever been President has talked about how little time there is to do anything but read the briefings prepared by the staff."
Placing him (or "them") completely at the mercy of his staff.
This might explain the idiotic position he took when Zeleya got the boot.
Well, my first doubts about the news media occurred back when they were claiming that there was "a generation at risk". They were claiming that the teen agers turning cars into hot rods and driving "OVER A HUNDRED MILES AND HOUR ! ! ! ! " was going to wipe out all the teen agers (hmmm, "where's the downside?").
Anyhow, right after hearing that on the car radio, I peeked out at the ditch alongside the hiway, expecting to see lots of wrecked cars. None. Then I looked around, expecting to see ambulances, wreckers, wrecked cars on flatbed trailers, etc. Nothing.
I was 4yrs old, IIRC.
Ahhh, that's why your bar is different?
We believe we have the filters problem now solved. Thank you for your patience.
There's room for all especially the doubters. Michael Medved a good man and so are you . Thanks for the reply Brother.
