The childish, feminized fantasy world in which the left dwells was never more in evidence than in this lunatic rant by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, in which the Rhodes Scholar plays president for a few minutes and gives the speech she wishes Obama had given the other night.
It’s a speech that basically boils down to an uniformed, juvenile cri de coeur against BP, filled with the “shoulds” and “woulds” the left habitually uses in demanding that mommy and daddy protect them from things that go bump in the night. As usual, there’s not a single thought devoted to practicalities, alternatives or the larger issues of why and how, just the standard search for a villain and the demand for punishment. What a desperately miserable world these people live in; no wonder they’re all nuts.

If you are in the business of regulation ANYTHING, shouldn't you know HOW to fix it if it breaks too? The biggest problem in all of this really isn't BP, I mean it is but, the culprits are the enviromentalists. They forced companies not to drill near the coast in shallow water, it is a myth that they HAD to drill that far out to get to the oil, tree-huggers are the cause of umpteen things in this country, No1 being our dependency on foreign oil. The EPA is a disaster. I don't want our waters pollouted, our air dirty or our homes full of lead but lets be REALISTIC here. If ANYONE could have come up with a cheaper, more efficient, clean fuel, in this nation FULL of entrepreneurs it would have been done by now. I am sick and tired of progressives/communists, political correctness and our goverment with enough empolyees to start it's own country……………wait, isn't that what is happening? There are starting to be more of them than US. I agree, it is time to take this country back.

As soon as she implied that the only people who benefit from the drilling are the oil companies vs the collective feeling the loss, I lost all willingness to sit through her rant. Does she seriously not understand that BP considers it in their best interests to minimize the amount of wasted product? Does she seriously not understand that the oil BP would be collecting would increase supply, and therefore decrease price on an expensive product that everyone needs? I just can't stand it.

All the wind mills and solar plants combined country wide provide the energy equivalent of 1 count em, 1 oil well. This exact same thing happened after 3 mile island. We stopped building nuke plants cause of these same nuts. The enviro-freaks will never be happy.

Hesitate to comment as I didn't watch the entire clip, but in the first 2 & 1/2 minutes Ms. Maddow is terribly wrong on 2 serious points:
#1: She states that BP is the sole beneficiary of the well. That is wrong. Offshore oil production employs thousands directly, thousands more indirectly, & pays millions in taxes and fees to governments state, local and federal which support many projects & programs beneficial to all. Domestic oil production enhances our national and economic security. Anyone who benefits from transportation of necessary goods & services or synthetic materials benefits from oil productions, and that is virtually everyone, including Ms. Maddow.
#2: She states that all deep water drilling must be stopped until we can be certain there is no chance of an accident. That is not the standard used anywhere. Thousands of people have died in auto and plane accidents, yet we've not banned auto & plane travel. That is an impossible standard to meet and destructive to social and economic progress.

Finally got a chance to finish watching: More points where Ms. Maddow is wrong,
#3: She states this is the worst environmental disaster in American History. That is simply not true. It is not even the worst environmental disaster in the Gulf. The biggest human source of pollution in the Gulf is run-off, eutrophication. It predates this blowout and will continue long after the blowout is stopped.
Here where I live in Colorado government policy has created ecodisasters with the 2002 wildfires, Rocky. Mtn. Arsenal and the Lowry Landfill and the CA Central Valley all of which are worse than this blowout.
#4: She states wetlands are destroyed. No wetlands have been destroyed. Some have had temporary, adverse effects.
#5: She states every President since Nixon has vowed to ' get the U.S. off of oil '. Simply not true. There is no need to get off oil.
#6: She states political cowardice has prevented renewable energy. Renewable energy has failed as it does not produce power on demand, not just when the sun is shining or the wind blows.

Ms. Maddow ends with a call to close Guantanamo, by which I presume she means Camp X-ray. Of course that will do nothing at all to stop or contain the BP blowout.
However, the policy problem Camp X-ray is designed to deal with is terrorism.
There are 3 options for dealing with terrorists:
#1: Do nothing, and let the terrorists murder thousands of innocent people. Not a good option.
#2: Kill the terrorists. Better than #2, but still not a good option.
#3. Lock up the terrorists. A bad option as it is an expensive security headache, but at least the terrorists and their victims are still alive. The best of the 3 alternatives.
Ms. Maddow proposes closing Guantanamo without stating how she would deal with the terrorists. Would she execute all of them? Most Americans find mass-executions distasteful, to say the least.

Reagan supported domestic oil production everywhere.
GH BUSH banned offshore oil production and sought to keep the oil lanes open with the Persian Gulf War.
Clinton was out to lunch.
GW BUSH pursued oil imports from Mexico and Canada and domestic Alchohol fuel production.
No President has every discussed getting the United States ' off oil '.
