Terrific piece here by Lee Smith in the Weekly Standard, filling in the background on the recent firing of Octavia Nasr, a Lebanese Christian Arab, by CNN for her Twitter expressing admiration for one of Hezbollah’s recently deceased ayatollahs:
… why is Nasr being singled out for openly expressing the U.S. media’s default position on Hezbollah, Fadlallah’s one-time colleagues? For instance, does anyone doubt that the New Yorker’s Seymour Hersh “respects” the late cleric’s even more vicious rival, Hezbollah General Secretary Hassan Nasrallah, whom he interviewed in the pages of the New Yorker?

The Western press delights in rattling the bourgeois sensibilities of its audience by showing the multifaceted aspects of Hezbollah–it’s not just a militia with an appetite for slaughtering Jews, it’s also a social welfare outfit that provides educational opportunities!–and even collaborates with the Party of God by publishing doctored photographs of Israeli “war crimes.” The op-ed pages of America’s dailies are replete with articles promoting Hezbollah’s “pragmatism” and “moderation” (which also happens to be the position of the president’s counter-terrorism czar John Brennan, and a recent CENTCOM analytical exercise), while reported pieces from Lebanon pass along Party of God press releases as objective analysis. If every U.S. journalist who quoted Hezbollah mouthpiece Amal Saad Ghorayeb as a respected “scholar” was fired, the bars of East Beirut would lose 25 percent of their business.
Smith, an expert on the Middle East whose views and insights deserve a wide audience, goes on to lay out the cozy relationship between the western media and Hezbollah, which is often romanticized as Third World freedom fighters by the Lawrence of Arabia wannabees in the press corps:
This infatuation with Hezbollah has been going on for years, and it’s not just because the party established a formidable style of press criticism by kidnapping journalists back in the ’80s. The U.S. media actually likes Hezbollah–it is an impressive thing, after all, to be able to kill your enemies–whether they are Jews or fellow Lebanese–whereas liberalism, non-violent resistance, rule of law, and opposition to political murder lacks sex appeal.

Again, this is a side effect of having only 5-6 major media outlets with the majority of them skewing left. The JournoList proves there is collusion on point of views that are to be promoted over others. And they will continue to get away with it despite how many times you expose it until you decentralize the media by decentralizing congress. http://econgressnow.com
What makes these 5-6 outlets so powerful is their DC bureaus that allow them sole access to Congress members unlike their affiliates.
When Congress members are based in their districts it's the affiliates who have the direct access and then the 5-6 major outlets are beholden unto their 100's of affiliates for access which dramatically loosens their control. In fact, it will likely lead to spin media outlets further destroying their monopoly.
CNN deployed Christiane Amanpour to report U.S. troop movement for years. Now she will serve in the ABC branch focusing on the progressive assault of the Republic. Specifically targeting theTEA Party and Conservatives.
Seems to be the problem is TWITTER not what they say to the camera,
otherwise, the'd have to fire all the anti-semitic, leftist, on-air personalities…
In case anyone remembers, this is supposed to be a Jewish-controlled press. "Which press is that?", I might ask.
This is another reason no one watches CNN.
How many Muslims are in all levels of our media?
How many Jews?
Americans are sick of their news being controlled by Isreal – we all know this. That is why viewership/readership is down in these Zionist propaganda outlets called the MSM and people are turning to blogs.
I love it – ONE or two people dare to stray from the Zionist "pro-Israel, all the time" line and they are immediately fired. Hope you guys realize those who you deem as "anti-Semites" are enjoying the best year ever – they can not prove their claims!
So if the media is controlled by the Zionist Israelis, WHY do you people keep citing their near-endless stream of condemnation for Israel and praise for the PLO?
Bah. Us Canadians have you guys beat when it comes to terrorist love in our media. Especially at the CBC, our state-run broadcaster. Al Jazeera English is managed by Tony Burman, the ex-Editor-in-Chief of CBC News, a 35 year veteran of Canada's state broadcaster. Another former CBC broadcaster Avi Lewis is now a host at Al Jazeera. Most of those that remain are busy trying to get Omar Khadr, the one Canadian in Guantanamo, freed, or producing one of the CBC's own comedies, Little Mosque on the Prairie (I'm not kidding)
It is a fact that the Christian Arabs in Lebanon are strong supporters of Hezbollah and strong opponents of Israel. So her position is understandable. Where you stand is usually based upon where you sit. But the network was right to fire her once a stink was raised. She embarrassed them at a time when they can''t afford to be displaying terrorist sympathies. Their ratings are so low, that they can't afford to have any incident drive them lower. Most moderates and independents (who still watch television news) have no sympathy for Arab terrorists.
That's a fantastic idea. I'll spread the word about e-congress.
You mean the Iranians still didn't seize the U.S. embassy?
You mean the Iranians haven't been attacking Americans in Iraq?
But the media doesn't endorse your lies and conspiracy theories, so it must be contolled by the Israelis.
Of course.
CNN is a tool of radical leftists that sympathize with terrorists around the world. It is an Anti-American cess pool teaming with muslim subversives, communists and Rick Sanchez. A drunken baffoon and former mental patient.
