You're right, of course, that they "transfer their own feelings and actions on their opponents" — that's the definition of Projective Thinking, when a thought, feeling or belief originating in the self is "projected" to the other, then reflected back, mirror-like, as if originating in and coming from the other.
But what makes the whole projective thinking thing insidious and dangerous, is that a belief that the opposition is doing and thinking all those despicable things, provides the rationalization of and justification for the projective thinker to "fight fire with fire," and do the same horrible things, or even worse.

Very true. Curious, I've never–not once–seen or heard such hate and anger spewing from a conservative. I used to listen to "Air America" back when I was more left leaning than right (oh, the naiveté) and I recall with such clarity the horrible things all of the hosts said about Bush and Repubs. Even I, as a moderate Lib, was shocked. One of them (Mike Malloy) was actually fired because of his rants and hatred over everything Bush, religion and corporate America. I think he even started the phrase “Bush crime family . . . .” Of course the excuse was that they let him go for financial reasons . . . .

I think the left media has a real fundamental problem. It's the same problem they have had in the past with their voters. When your side are the non-producers, dysfunctional, the criminals, the illegals, and the otherwise sickos in society…..how much serious news can you expect them to watch? Sometimes it is as hard as getting them out to vote.
Maybe the left should pass some laws that Olbermann, Shultz & Maddow's shows have to be aired the next day in the DMV waiting room, or even in the welfare office, and where ever else their voters frequent; like maybe the state prisons; or on large screens at the border. Then they can count those viewers in among their ratings.
