Not quite. Nathan Bedford Forrest, Head of the Tennessee Democratic Party, founded the Ku Klux Klan in 1866 with a declared purpose of breaking down the Republican Party. With approximately 4500 lynchings between 1866 and 1964 — 2/3 Black victims, 1/3 White victims — the common denominator was that the victims supported, promoted and/or voted Republican.

Large parts of the South had Black majorities, and if allowed to vote they would vote Republican; the KKK was determined by hook or crook to prevent their voting. Few Blacks were able to vote due to Jim Crow laws, poll taxes and ginned-up tests that had nothing to do with literacy, intelligence or general savvy, and the Democrats blocked all efforts at passing Civil Rights laws up to and including the 1964-65 Civil Rights Act .

Before Obama's presidential campaign and subsequent win, I am pretty sure I decided who I liked and didn't like based on how the human acted. Since he has become pres, I have repeatedly heard that I am a racist. I am a white woman who hates black people. Indeed, I am afraid of them. After the reconstruction many blacks in the south were freely elected, something the Democrats then (and now) cannot abide.
