Big Sites publisher Andrew Breitbart to Newsweek’s Daniel Stone today:
In the aftermath of the saga that thrust Shirley Sherrod into the news cycle and spurred a national discussion about race, the former USDA employee has said she’ll “definitely will sue” Andrew Breitbart, the conservative blogger at BigGovernment.com who posted the original edited video taken widely out of context. Breitbart talked with Newsweek’s Daniel Stone about the whole episode, a potential lawsuit and whether he has any regrets.
Shirley Sherrod has said she will sue you. What’s your response?
I’m not going to respond to the lawsuit. She mentioned it last week, when it fueled 36 hours of coverage, and then again this week, when it fueled another round of coverage. Until there’s a lawsuit, unless there’s something to answer to, there’s nothing I can comment on.
If it came to pass, would you settle or fight it?
If there’s a lawsuit, there will be a legal team.
She said she simply wanted an apology? Why not just do it?
All I can say is that this is a person on national television who said I wanted to put blacks back into slavery. This thing has gotten to a place that’s far beyond where it should be. I’d be more than happy to meet with her in private and have a discussion with her.

Is that an invitation?
Sure, I’ll go whoever she wants. I’ll go to Albany, Georgia. I’ll go anywhere to have a private discussion with her.
How do you think this got so out of control?
At the beginning, Shirley Sherrod’s first comments were that she got caught between the NAACP and the Tea Party and she said that the NAACP is the reason for this. That’s her quote. The intent of my post was to challenge the NAACP in its six-day media enabled negative branding of the Tea Party as racist using provably false information that the N-Word was thrown at the Congressional Black Caucus [earlier this year during the health care debate]. I’ve been doing this for over a year and this is just one more attempt of mine to point out to the general public that there’s consistency here in the Democratic Party to strategically issue the race card. My regret was that has been lost and Shirley Sherrod became the focus.
If Sherrod wanted to meet with you, what would you tell her?
I’d have a long discussion with her and I’d tell her that I’m not one of these people in this country that thinks racism doesn’t exist. And that I’m not one of these people who says that she hasn’t suffered from racism. And that the scars of her racism aren’t warranted. But I’d also tell her that my passion in life and my political trajectory from left to right was born from watching the Clarence Thomas hearings. I didn’t understand how he NAACP sat on its hands while privileged white gentlemen hammered him mercilessly and humiliated him and the media and the NAACP allowed for it to happen.

What do you say to people who call you a racist?
I’ll tell them that this weekend I’m going to the Uni-Tea minority-based Tea Party in what was a pre-planned event long before this. I’m going to tell the crowd that their investment in the American experiment of limited government and individual rights, that their stance on those worthwhile ideals is going to save this country. I have no bigger goal than to eradicate racism, to grant Americans who have a different color of skin the right to disagree against the left’s style of orthodoxy.
So your broader effort is to tap the minority vote that historically has been helpful to Democrats?
Yes. It may be a task that’s so herculean, but I think it’s a worthy goal to try to open up America to individuals who just so happen to have a different skin color, that they have every right and every freedom to think what they want to think. That’s my battle, it’s my goal.
Can you understand how this has been difficult for her to get caught up in that?
As difficult as it probably was for her, it’s been difficult for me as well, especially to hear her hurl an accusation of racism at me, when my motivation is absolutely pure and is driven by a desire for this country to move beyond its horrid racist past.
But do you agree that the edited video took things out of context?
Well, yes. But I put up what I had. It granted a great portion of her redemptive tale, but not all of it. If I could do it all over again, I should have waited for the full video to get to me.
So why not apologize for that?
I’d first like to speak to her in private and outside of the media circus.
Do you regret how this all went down?
Look, there’s a lot of blame to go around on this story and it’s very convenient to try to place it all on me when the Obama Administration and the NAACP were also involved. I don’t think anybody looks particularly good in this thing.

What is Sherrod going to sue Breitbart for, her being a racist idiot? This is America, sweetheart, and we have very liberal (unrestrictive) free speech laws. If you sue Breitbart for libel, he'll countersue you for saying things like "he wants all blacks back into slavery…"
Well hopefully Andrew will be able to speak with her in private, away from all the media, so he can confront his accuser, and so she can have her say in private.
Do I think she's moved beyond her racism? Nope.
The more the left goes after Andrew Breitbart, the more I hear and read what he has to say, the more impressed I am with the man. He is fearless, righteous (compliment), and relentless. I believe the left now sees him as a greater threat to their plans than even Limbaugh.
If the America we know (or knew) survives the existential threat Obama/Pelosi/Reid pose to it, Breitbart will be at the top of my list of people responsible for saving us from the enemy within.
I wouldn't turn my head to get a glimpse of Obama. If he invited me to the White House for a beer, I'd decline because it would be painful to be in the people's house and know that the Oval Office where Reagan sat is now serving as command center for the man who is taking the country I love apart.
Breitbart–I'd cross the country to shake the man's hand.
Record everything. By now she has been primed to play "gotcha' and/or take things out of context.
Right on Andrew, keep up the good work! …the left is squirming.
Ditto! Well said!
If Sherrod does sue, Brietbart's free speech lawyers will take her apart! It is in HER best interest to bring an amicable end to this. She is being used right now in plantation politics! She will lose in the end if it goes any further! Knowing both her and her activist husband's questionable backgrounds, however, I have doubts about her willingness to do so! And that says something sinister about their character!
Query: Why is Sherrod is married to a psychopath?
Sherrod is just another grievence monger out to shakedown Big Sites for some easy cash. She's a disgrace to all of the great black people who came before her.
This Gentleman Andrew Breitbart has class. We will all stand with you Andrew, whatever the future holds.
.
We stand with you Andrew! Race should not be the issue when our elected "leadership" is driving us off a cliff!
I hope that Andrew gets his chance to speak with Shirley in private and away from all the cameras and political slant that the media tries to portray everything with. I do not know what her feelings and beliefs are, but it almost appears as if she is allowing others to tell her what to do and what to say. Instead of going after the people who wrongfully forced her to resign, she is going after someone else.
Sherrod will refuse to speak privately with Andrew claiming it will be too dangerous for her to be alone with "such an evil white racist who want to bring back slavery."
Am I the only one who thinks it would be a bit odd to sue the man who got you a promotion?
She has no case; she resigned. End of story.
I hope she sues; I think the text of the lawsuit will be the butt of jokes from here until the end of time…
why?
she's made it pretty clear what her feelings and beliefs are. She's got an established record. She and her husband both.
wishy washy. jesus.
Why would he want to meet her. Her statements speak for themselves. It looks like he is backing down.
I am adding my voice to the growing chorus of those in support of Andrew Breitbart. Mr. Breitbart has shown class, conviction, courage and is unwavering in his mission to do what is right.
Ms. Sherrod is now using this unfortunate incident as a path to personal fame, and, apparently thinks of herself as Rosa Parks reincarnated. She should be ashamed. But, of course, she won't be.
No, that's Breitbart's MO!
Will Breitbart wear his white hood?
There is NO class in Breitbart's continuous racist smear of an innocent lady that was serving the public so well.
He has to back down because he is as guilty as sin!
And she will be speaking the TRUTH!
Let Breitbart interview her in front of a camera. She will still look like the racist idiot that she is. Even now, the liberals have no need for her because she's a loose cannon. Let her do it in front of a camera.
TarHeels, did you even read the article? I expect not. Most trolls either cannot read, or do not comprehend. Either you're being purposely disingenuous, or you're just an idiot.
I am sick of people calling Sherrod and Breitbart racists, chill out kids.
I am glad Breibart seems to have realized that this got out of hand and is controlling it with a measure of responsibility. Fact is, conservatives (black and white) have been dealt far worse maliciously. There is zero evidence that Breitbart wanted to harm Sherrod and yet the media spills far more ink over him than they ever do when this happens to someone on the right.
MyKu:
Sorry, Andrew, but
you seem to be falling for
the Left's distraction.
You damn well better meet with her and fast, Andy. She's gonna sue you right into the ground, and what a hilarious and entertaining spectacle it's going to be. Maybe you could wear a wire, get about 20 minutes of conversation, and put your production wizards to work. Cut it, splice it, slice it, dice it, doctor it, and then mail it on over to Fox for another exclusive. She might just settle out for a reasonable sum.
He stated after she was fired that she was not the target, but the NAACP was. She was collateral damage, inflicted by an overzealous White House and NAACP (again). Despite what the leftist trolls think or don't think…? Whatever they do…
augie you're another unhinged dem with little or no understanding of the first ammendment. Get used to it augie, the jig is up!
Breitbart is doing a great job. He's forcing the country to have the conversation it needs to see the hypocrisy and double standards used viciously by the left to attack the right.
Now the MSM is back tracking on calling AB out and AB is backtracking on the video release, as they both should, and so should Sherrod do some backtracking….
GROUP HUG ! …….Now can we all just be Americans.
Keep the Sherrods speaking in front of cameras. Every time one of them opens their mouth something stupid and racist comes out. They are bigoted idiots who successfully scammed the system.
"He’d Like To Meet ‘In Private’"
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
People in hell want ice water. It ain’t gonna happen. Breitbart done fugg w/ the wrong sista.
DAPS!
Ms. Sherrod has been elevated to Mongrel News Media (MNM) sainthood, thanks to AB.
Ms. Sherrod's husband, and their business dealings have likewise been elevated to MNM notoriety in her current slipstream.
We look forward to their book/s.
We look forward to their continuing MNM opportunities to set their records straight.
We hope that they will not be intolerantly discarded by the MNM to the same historical ash heap as was Cindy Sheehan.
Excellent expose, Mr. B.
The truth will out.
I hope Breitbart holds his ground on this. I don't give a damn what Shirley Sherrod said about her "later" attitude change, by her own admission she,the lady who was working for the USAD wasn't going to help a citizen looking for help for one reason and one reason only,BECAUSE HE WAS WHITE !!!
"Well hopefully Andrew will be able to speak with her in private, away from all the media, so he can confront his accuser, and so she can have her say in private."
Ummm….When Jesus comes back.
Oh, this is going to be so much fun.
Shirley will show you how it's done
BooYah
Why would she wanna speak to that bigot? He shouldn't have smeared her good name. Amazing that someone could be so consumed with hate until they end up destroying themselves.
Karma! It's what for dinner!
What an ignorant buffoon you are. Too bad stupidity isn't
physically painful.
You keep repeating that if it makes you feel good.
Actually she's married to a hero of the civil rights era, but your comment does say a lot about the attitudes of people on this site.
Oh right , she was not the target…he just implied that she was discriminating against a white farmer because she was a racist…but she wasn't the TARGET.
"…………. ‘I’d Like To Speak with Sherrod in Private’………."
and accomplish what,………????
From the American Thinker:
"Co-sponsoring the bill was none other than U.S. Senator Barack Obama."
Might that have had any direct impact into BO's campaign contributions?
Paging Rep. Issa & the FEC!
Frankly, that's not too long in the future. Betta be ready!
He accused her of discriminating against a white farmer. That was not true. That is how he harmed her. Now on HIS websites she is the target of endless bile. That is also harm. Her father was murdered , she lived through the civil rights struggle , her farm was discriminated against by the USDA , and readers on this site hate her guts.
But she DID help him, he was on tv talking about how helpful she was and how grateful he was.
And she was offered another job in the adminstration. So in the end, she wasn't damaged by Brietbart, so she doesn't have to made 'whole' by him.
And if she sues, I hope Andrew sues her right back for a frivolous lawsuit.
Silly Augie… 1st Amendment hatred's for kids (you).
Good interview. Hopefully this can be put to rest soon.
All the attention is how out of context the video was, even Breitbart in this article wishes he would have waited. Why? My point is this. Ms. Sherrod deliciously, and with great gusto and smiles, detailed her racist thinking. Ok, so we missed the part (not completely however) where she ties it up and effectively asserts "that was the old me, I don't think that way now".
Who cares about that context? She went on and on about how this farmer thought he was better, and basically, how she screwed with him. Whether it came out ok for him in the end doesn't matter. Whether she realized it was about poor people and not just blacks and whites doesn't matter. The fact that she is "changed" doesn't matter. As she is detailing this, she doesn't appear to reflect any sense of regret, and the audience (of assumedly a majority of black folks) laughs and reacts in a positive manner. One would have expected silence from a crowd that was listening to someone regretfully detailing their racist past.
THAT is the story here, and no one talks about it.
Andrew Breitbart has the "fire in the belly" that most of our Republicans have lost.
I look at someone like Lyndsey Graham and I want to puke. John McCain is trying to be conservative now, but it's too late.
Newt—that ship has sailed—help, if you can, but don't try to run.
Peter King, Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindall, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neil Cavuto, and all of Fox News-seeking the truth, and there are others… and most of all the TEA PARTY—America at it's best.
You are a disgrace for squeezing your eyes to the truth. AB fugged up!
Andrew Breitbart has the "fire in the belly"
He got a little too cocky with the wrong woman. Oh my gosh, why can't ACORN get in on this suit?
She would like to sue you!
What white hood? Please cite a link. Or STFU.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
Truth
Where did he "smear (sic) her good name"? Please cite, or quote, directly, and explain.
Or do you just parrot what others tell you to?
You, it's my dinner!
Guilty of what? Please list an actual legal crime committed, without hyperbole or emotion, and explain how it applies to his original post.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Logic
She admitted herself to not helping the farmer based on the color of his skin, and sending him to "one of his own kind". She later had an epiphany, which Breitbart duly noted in his original post. Which you clearly never read. Thus, betraying your ignorance. Get it together.
TarHeels<<<< What kind of hood are you hiding under ?
Dude where have you been? She and her Husband have been doing a much better job at smearing her name then any one else. Or did you miss her husbands racist rant? Or perhaps you think there is nothing racist about her comments on AC360? Oh silly me you lib-freaks believe that black people can't be racist. WAKE UP!!! And start living in the REAL world you liberal fascist.
Have a nice day
SkyLite- do you really believe that the Sherrod woman knows anything about farming?
Why did she get that very well payed job, and for doing what? So that she could feel all powerful and grand over all these ''white folk'' not of her ''own kind " ?
There is a race element involved all around and about her life, she lives in it.
And she told so herself .
SkyLite < why are you so hateful to us?
A liberal engaging in a debate without hyperbole or emotion? You might as well ask him to saw off both of his legs and run the Boston Marathon.
beer summit
you wish,
as it stands AB has all the cards
Why would she be the sole target? She was a nobody until Breitbart made her famous. Wouldn't it make more sense that after weeks of the Tea Party being attacked and called "racist" by the NAACP, that Breitbart was returning fire at the NAACP?
Use your brain, grasshopper.
Worth a shot…. I was giving our "guest" an attempt to temper the embarrassing impression he/she/it's made here. I admit, it was a long shot.
Yeah, just like you guys said he was going to do hard time for the "wiretapping" thing. Nice try, Matlock.
—>quote Amazing that someone could be so consumed with hate until they end up destroying themselves. /quote<—-
I have to agree with you here. her hatred just drips from her mouth with every word she speaks. Did you notice that no one came to her defense who works with her or knows her well? And her husband really, really did her in. You sleep with a racist cad all those years and it tends to warp the thought patterns
To address your post, point-by-point:
1. She admitted to initially discriminating against the farmer. No one is seriously disputing that. She later had an "epiphany", that informed her that looking at things through a prism of race (aka racism) was not the way. Breitbart noted this in his initial post, which you STILL clearly have never glanced at.
2. I just proved how this is true. Done.
3. He didn't do a thing to her. If you're looking for who HARMED her (at least acc. to how the dictionary defines it) you'd need to speak with someone from the USDA or the White House. Which you aren't.
4. Already disproven. See points 1 and 2.
5. Her father was murdered. Forty five years ago, and we already went over her "epiphany" where she learned to overcome. Clarence Thomas also lived through the civil rights struggle. He seems to have adjusted.
Readers on this site love the truth, and are dedicated to the destruction of double standards. We also use words properly (like the actual distinction between edit and excerpt), avoid both grievance and identity politics, and abhor obfuscation.
Other than that, good job.
Oh I pity you. You seem so proud of your ignorance.
AB has more to sue her for! He's being nice to offer to meet in private, but if not, bring on the lawyers! It would be very entertaining to see the truth come out about all the lefty lies to cover Obama's ass on this! I hope she does go to court, but no lawyer is going to seriously think she has a case.
I dont think you can reason with a woman who thinks you want slavery back in America. Just my opinion though.
What makes your brain of a garden slug think she doesn't know anything about farming? What? Only whites can be farmers? You're too stupid for words.
you cant sue anyone for them airing your own words as you spoke them. and I'd bet you are whiter than me.
someone who still uses the uncle tom line is no hero of anything.
Advice to Breitbart… wear a wire, this bitch will twist everthing that is said……. Is it OK now to call blacks, mongrels…or is that a black thing…?
and we all kbnow how Clarence Thomas was treated at his hearings. He was treated like trash. Liberals will never understand that the country is seperated by black and white but by left and right.
production wizards?? LOL ingoramus. edited and excerpt are two different things
Let's see , Andrew's hero is Clarence Thomas, the LAST BLACK MAN IN AMERICA TO BENEFIT FROM AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. That's the way Clarence want it and that's the way Andrew want it.Clarence is a self hating Black person. He has brought back civil rights 30 years. He outed his sister being on welfare instead of helping her in private. The only time he was going to help a black persson was when his nephew was tasered. Too him every other black person that is tasered can go to hell.He is basically paid to kowtow to white racist . His own wife is even in the racist Tea Party.
Andrew is a coward. Look at how he attacked a black woman who family member was lynched by the Klan. This is filthy and discusting.
Did you not see the Spooners on TV? They confirmed she helped save their farm. Isn't he white?
Yet I don't recall Justice Thomas lashing out, dropping R-bombs every way from Sunday. He carried himself with dignity, and has to this day. Condoleeza Rice, another person treated with class by the media (/sarc) also never made excuses, and also took the vile "uncle tom" filth in stride. Was a hell of a SecState, to boot.
It's deeper than left/right, too. It's entitlement/achievement. Takers/makers.
Confront his accused, he called HER a racist. Her family member was lynched. She help a white family. The only black people Breitbart helps are the ones that do his racist dirty work for him like the fool that does the"Macho Sauce" videos. He sells his self hatered of blacks so that Breitbart can say that he has black friends. Is that how tea baggers treat little old black ladies?
I'm hoping Shirley will hit him deep in the pocketbook. Clean his clock!
I hope he keeps it up, he looks more and more like a racist coward. Blacks are only 12.5% of the population but we are oppressing whites,BULL!
That dang English language, again…
She didn't doctor the tape. Andrew called HER a racist. HER FATHER WAS LYNCHED!
You have some damn nerve. Is that Tea Baggers treat old black ladies?
Let's get back to talking about economic negligence, fiscal incompetence, and President Present…
I'll take a beer, though
Says the guy who hasn't made a coherent point on this entire thread…
No were not, but Breitbart is. It's about time he go to court. Acorn has been proven false, theycan sue him too.
God bless America! and everywhere else!
He has free speech , but he doesn't have the right to lie. Acorn is next and Andrew better watch out. Andrew picked on the wrong little old black lady.
Prove it or STFU!
Grievence monger? Andrew USED the tape not her. Her father was lynch ,not the fat guy from a wealthy white family.
Well, here we go again. All Andrew did was post video that exposed racism in the ranks of a group supposedly committed to fighting racism. And yes, Kid, racism exists both ways. Seems to me as if you might be a little racist yourself.
At least there is somebody here who can see the truth.
Is that what it's called when you attack little old black ladies who father was lynched by the Klan?
Yes shame on her for having her father lynched by the Klan.
He probably won't have anything left after she sue his butt and Acorn sue him for the rest.
