While many of us are struggling, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her “closest friends.” According to CNN, the group is expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms, more than a third of the lodgings at the 160-room resort. Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times.
Reports are calling the lodgings of Obama’s Spanish fiesta, the Hotel Villa Padierna in Marbella, “luxurious,” “posh” and “a millionaires’ playground.” Estimated room rate per night? Up to a staggering $2,500. Method of transportation? Air Force Two.
Hard to see how anybody could object to that, right?
Naturally, the hacks and non-entities are circling the wagons and attacking Glenn Reynolds for this picture, but even Soros-funded stooges must know that the game, very soon, will be up.

It's one thing for a millionaire to play in that playground. The Obama's are not millionaires. SHE doesn't even practice law anymore, or have I missed something? Obama himself only makes 350K a year playing president. So, since this is what? The fifth vacation in 2 months, I think they've run out of their own money.
Once again the ruling class plays the do as I say, not as I do game. It is hard to believe that Obama's popularity is in the 40's. How can anyone still support this Pretender in Chief?
The galling part of this entire sorry O'Wookie European Vacation story is how such a lavish, incredibly expensive, in your face, waste of tax money is viewed by a sycophantic, slavishly adoring Media, who would have crucified the Bushs 24/7, had they done something so extravagantly egregious in hard times around the Country..

Wrong, pthalo…they are millionaires…the lack of current observable income notwithstanding…they "made" over $5 million last year, in book sales, royalties,etc….yes, we are paying for AF2, plus security, staff, etc…but "running out of their own money" is not accurate….when you have their kind of money, it "makes" money whether you are working for it or not.
The point is less "who pays" (though that is a question we have a right to ask) than the Marie Antoinette "let them eat cake" attitude and insensitivity to the lives of real Americans

The real American backbone is the working class, those that get up everyday not scheming to steal their next door neighbors last free penny, nor to create laws to go around a constitution that created the freest and most profitable and generous country and people in the world.
This is not a vacation…. this woman and her groupies are in their own element. They don’t give a wits end to anyone’s suffering, monetarily or otherwise (that is unless there’s a photo op involved). The worst economy EVER. The Worst President EVER. The Worst First Lady EVER…….. Now that ladies and gents is History in the making!
I'm in general agreement with posts above – I don't begrudge people spending their money as they see fit. To say otherwise would make me rather un-conservative.
However, while the rest of us are struggling, while we are being told we have to sacrifice and not to go to Vegas, this is what they do.
I don't know, I think it's a real slap in the face to those of us who are struggling to make ends meet. They should have just spent some family time at Camp David and I'd have more respect – because it would show an example. This is, as most of you have said, "let them eat cake" attitude.

Let's see, how long ago was it that we were being lectured on the fact that we as Americans don't know how to save our money. We aren't even smart enough not to go blow it in Vegas. How ANYONE can actually listen to ANYONE in this administration with a straight face (or without losing their lunch) is hard to fathom. Each and every day it seems we are getting slapped in the face by these elitists. I never thought I would ever live in a country with a "ruling class" with this much disdain for its citizens.

If anyone in the MSM ever grows enough juevos to ask them about all of these vacations and what the people are saying about it, their answer will be, "Well we really don't watch the news all that much, or a lot of TV in general, so no, not really aware of what the general population says". It's patently obvious that the meet'n'greet with the King and Queen of Spain is for purposes of trying to rationalize another outrageous and expensive "vacation" (use of public funds, resources, particularly).
Calling this "a mother and daughter vacation" is beyond the pale. If Michelle had WANTED actual time alone "on vacation" with a daughter, billions of great mothers worldwide can easily come up with far more appropriate (and meaningful, genuine, affection, sharing) experiences than a five-star hotel with "friends" traipsing around Spain being hoity-toity as Michelle Obama is doing.
One of those people she's "vacationing" with in Spain is the big ole Muslim-9/11 defender, Deepak Choprah, the very guy who ON 9/12 was on t.v. glowering at Americans and condemning the nation for "trying to" "accuse Muslims" or whatnot…it was outright indecent, the guy was actually very angry AT the U.S. because Muslims were the terrorists on 9/11 and we, Americans, were actually talking about that (Choprah was angry, ooh, was he ever angry — and not one drop of sentiment kindly to and about America AND those who had perished the day before).
I tried considering whether or not Michelle and hubby are simply 'hapless' and doing all this gluttonous self-indulgence and partying, perpetual vacationing, because they are naive or carelessly insensitive by lack of awareness or something potentially understandable as "being new to the spotlight and access to the public taxpayers' stream of moolah" — and then I realized they both have law degrees (that means, they've been through a good amount of college and educational training). And then I realized that, no, they're not haplessly motivated to greed, they are intentionally greedy, acting profanely, badly, in gluttony and all this partying and wastefulness BECAUSE they enjoy sticking it to America.
Michelle Obama (and whoever the heck the rest of those "close family friends" are who are joining in this indecency with her are) knows she's insulting a number of people in our nation who are having a hard time economically OR so much as are empathetic with those who are (that means, who have good taste and are sensitive to others), she knows she's being condescending and grandiose and otherwise, exceptionally flippant and in very, very bad taste, she just wants to hurt others. She's indecent, as her husband is, because they know it causes pain in others' lives.
I can't stand to even hear his voice any more or look at that awful face of his…I tried to watch, I couldn't. He's disgusting, he makes my skin crawl, he's just disgusting. So is the wife.
And decent people of wealth or at least who are well-off financially don't go flaunting it WHEN they're hired on (supposedly) in public service, as Michelle and Barack do.
IF they're spending their own money on this elaborate 'vacation' in Spain — and clearly they are not, not the larger portion of the expenses, anyway (planes, gasoline, cars, security, food, all other expenses relative to the mass of people and goods Michelle Obama has taken with her to Spain) — well, what was I writing anyway, because they clearly are NOT spending their own money on this perpetual vacation escapade they call the Obama Presidency.
These two people have no taste. They are tasteless, socially barbaric, crude and presumptuous. If private citizens out of any public office, who cares to a certain degree, but they're behaving like this in the Presidency. Makes their behavior particularly even more offensive.
@ phthaloblu — I read elsewhere wherein someone did an accounting of the overall "basics" of this Spain DooDah by Michelle, figured into the salary of Barack Obama. Then attempted an accounting (specifically, as you've referred to generally there) of the other five vacations they've taken in this year alone (is it five or seven, lost count)…and it came out that the very idea that they'd be 'spending their own money' makes no sense financially.
In other words, it's yet more lies from the Obama Administration that they're paying for these escapades themselves. They are likely making a few down-pays here and there but they're not paying for these ongoing vacations out of their own pockets.
No way, for example, did they bear the costs of that private jet for their dog, Bo, to and from Maine — that dog that was then photographed IN Maine with his handler (who was also flown in that private jet to and fro) while the Obamas were off admiring themselves.
The Obamas have lots of class, too bad it's all low. We are almost half way through his term. God help us make it to 2012.

Colorado…near Breckinridge, I think….I'm big into waterfalls, mountains, etc. Not positive of the exact location, 'cuz most of the pix I take are nature, rather than people…not even positive this is one of MINE. It does look like a place where I have been, but the organization early on my digital photos left a lot to be desired !

Actually, there were THREE jets.
One of them flew the 12-13 black Chevy Suburbans, while another flew the additional security personnel and equipment (communications, weapons, surveillance, et al.).
As Ms. Obama traipsed around Spain – acting like royalty – I was laid-off from work, along with a few thousand other oil spill clean-up workers like me. And hundreds more skimmer boats and spotters were sent home too.
In the news, I noticed police and firefighter layoffs in several cities.
The fuel in those 3 jets alone would have paid dozens of police and fire personnel to remain on the job for the next year!
I have a somewhat different take on Michelle Obama. We know the campaign found her to be too much of a loose cannon and took away her visibility during the campaign. It also seems clear she is not happy staying in the background while Obama is President. Hence these vacations and trips are simply a method of buying her off and keeping her quiet.

Sadly, the Obamas are becoming the New Model of climbers and poseurs. But it must be very tempting to "get it while you can," knowing that you are only eligible for these big prizes for four years. And then you're out. The president is often accused of being tone-deaf, as well as indifferent to what "the people" really think. Apparently it runs in the family.
The media hated Bush's vacations. The last thing they wanted was to be stuck in the gym at the high school in Crawford. I'm sure they're lapping up the Obamas. Remember, where the Obamas go, the media get to go too. A little working vacation in Spain courtesy of your employer is nice work if you can get it. Why complain?
