Kathleen Parker is an allegedly conservative columnist at the Washington Post, but if there’s any evidence she is, in fact, conservative, it’s certainly scant. About the only support for this allegation comes from liberals, who always cite her as a “conservative” they like.

Here’s her latest. You be the judge:
The Ground Zero mosque must be built
Right — you love it already, don’t you? An exercise in morally preening, fatuous sophistry now follows:
The mosque should be built precisely because we don’t like the idea very much. We don’t need constitutional protections to be agreeable, after all.
This point surpasses even all the obvious reasons for allowing the mosque, principally that there’s no law against it. Precluding any such law, we let people worship when and where they please. That it hurts some people’s feelings is, well, irrelevant in a nation of laws. And, really, don’t we want to keep it that way?

Parker goes on to say that she, personally, would prefer the mosque to be built somewhere else, but hey:
But why do so many Americans feel this way? The answer is inherent in the question. Feeling is emotion, which isn’t necessarily bad, but it bears watching.
Reason tells us something else: The Muslims who want to build this mosque didn’t fly airplanes into skyscrapers. They don’t support terrorism. By what understanding do we assign guilt to all for the actions of a relative few?
Fasten your seat belts, because here comes some prime idiocy:
Some might wish that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is behind the proposal, were more sensitive, though opinions are mixed. Others have argued that a moderate Muslim such as Rauf is just the sort of person we hope will help influence a more-moderate Islam. Might an Islamic center near the spot where the religion’s worst adherents slaughtered thousands, fellow Muslims among them, be useful to that end?
These are all reasonable arguments. But the more compelling point is that mosque opponents may lose by winning. Radical Muslims have set cities afire because their feelings were hurt. When a Muslim murdered filmmaker Theo van Gogh in Amsterdam, it was because his feelings were hurt. Ditto the Muslims who rioted about cartoons depicting the image of Muhammad and sent frightened doodlers into hiding.

Yes, you read that right: Theo van Gogh was murdered on the streets of Amsterdam because his killer’s feelings were hurt.
The idea that one should never have one’s feelings hurt — and the violent means to which some will resort in the protection of their own self-regard — has done harm rivaling evil. It isn’t a stretch to say that the greatest threat to free speech is, in fact, “sensitivity.”
This is why plans for the mosque near Ground Zero should be allowed to proceed, if that’s what these Muslims want. We teach tolerance by being tolerant. We can’t insist that our freedom of speech allows us to draw cartoons or produce plays that Muslims find offensive and then demand that they be more sensitive to our feelings.

Nobody ever said freedom would be easy…
This is the caliber of thinking and writing that passes muster at the Washington Post these days, as the decline of a once-great newspaper continues apace.
Maybe she should consult this book before she embarrasses herself and her employer again.

is there a law against putting a big middle finger at the top of the Mosque? No? Well, then what better reason to do it, huh, Kathleen??? Useful? No. Idiot? Yes. Panderer.
So a Washington Post "conservative" is little better than a simpering liberal? Hummm–thanks for the heads up.
………and she is who, exactly?
………and does what, exactly?
Her columns used to be on townhall.com until they finally wised up. Funny how her 'conservatism' always leads her to liberal positions like ridiculing Sarah Palin and endorsing Barack Obama. She's got a lot of nerve to invoke REASON when one of her justifications for endorsing BO was her love of her black nanny or some such nonsense.
Nobody
Nothing useful, just killing trees, taking up space and wasting oxygen
This is a huge distraction! Build your Mosque and be done with it. Yes you have the right to build it anywhere you choose. Does it offend most of the citizens of this country? YES it does. The only time liberal's or progressive's care about feelings is for their causes and feelings the rest of us be damned! So tear up now because Nov. is going to hurt your feelings! badly I hope!
Stop dwelling on this and steel your heart for the work ahead in restoring our country.
Well!
Whaddyaknow. Give that gal a burka.
I said sometime ago, that the logic of the left (in this case set forth as, "The mosque should be built precisely because we don’t like the idea very much") dictates that the MOST patriotic act an American can enage in, is to destroy the Republic.
The left are like those religious types that intentionally sin to prove how holy they are.
Suggestion:
Please put up the third or fourth hour of Brian Jennings as he reported on this act of war on the United States of America. From my limited recollection it is very illuminating. Then put up Obama's NPR interview about 6-14 months later, in the opposite box. How did we elect an anti American to the highest office in the land? HOW?!?!?!?!?
ACORN.
Have we put enough weed killer on that one yet?
Probably not.
To be sure it is morphing into something else, as we speak, in preparation for November.
Manipulating through "hurt feelings" is what children and bad spouses do. Besides, their feelings are not hurt, they are angry, you dope.
Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan both need to be loved too much to be conservatives or useful.
Speaking of useful idiots, where has Joe Biden been?
Has he gone to ground?
He has been strangely silent, and offstage.
I wasn't alone in dancing for joy when they finally yanked her off of there. Her slobbering over Braaaaaaaack was nauseating. She wrote a column about what a thrill it was to be invited to fly with him on AF1 that left me with nightmarish visions of her on her knees! Yuck!!!
This woman is no conservative… she is an idiot.
"They don’t support terrorism."
And how do we know this? Because Ms. Parker assures us. That's a logical fallacy. Appeal to authority. Feisal Abdul Rauf says he's a moderate who doesn't support terrorism, which means he has the authority to say it.
She may or may not have been conservative at one time, but she's been going down hill since I started reading her. I can think of may 2 or 3 good columns in the last few years.
Who is she? A modern liberal.
What does she do? Pretends to be a conservative and then writes and goes on TV trashing freedom and liberty as a token republican.
He's packing up the house so Mrs. Clinton can move in.
That was funny.
Kathleen Parker is a Progressive, people…
She may call herself a Republican. John McCain does as well, so did Bob Dole. Nelson Rockefeller, even. That is NOT to be confused with a conservative, or libertarian. No, the Progressive movement compromised both parties long ago; only since Reagan has the tide started to turn back.
Parker is amongst those who loathe Sarah Palin, an excellent Rorsharch test for Progressives. Whether she is a true 'useful idiot', or more ominously a agent of deception is besides the point. The actions belie whatever motivation might exist.
Suffice to say that she should be read for a reveal into the RINO 'decepticon' movement…
I chalk it up to several reasons.
1) 2 long on-going wars wears down the nations moral.
2) 8 years of Bush, 6 of a GOP controlled congress, and how ever long the GOP held the house. Americans have a tradition of firing the party in charge from time to time.
3) The MSM did everything in its power to cover up his past and destroy McCain/Palin. Not that McCain need any helping in destroying his campaign.
4) Fresh face, no apparent baggage (thank you MSM), good speaker.
5) And most importantly, Americans are by far – in my opinion – are basically decent, nice, caring people. We like to give people the benefit of the doubt. True, that does occasionally bite us in the ass, but its still a wonderful trait that I love and respect about Americans.
Sigh. I used to like Kathleen Parker back a few years ago when she made sense. But this is just babbling liberal crap. I wonder what happened?
As usual, you are right.
I like you being succinct and eloquent.
Just curious, BluePhantom2: why did you use apostrophes in the phrase "…liberal's or progressive's care about feeilngs…?" Seriously, I'd like to know. I'm not picking on you; I've wanted to ask this question for a long time. It seems sometimes people just sprinkle them in at random, almost as if there were a quota for the number of apostrophes in a paragraph.
What vacuous dreck. Parker has the intellectual depth of a gnat or taliban cockroach that shares her views. Osama bin Laden also believes the mosque should be built.
everyone here should go where that is posted and let her have it.
There are some who still describe Andrew Sullivan as a conservative. That's one of the things that really makes me sick.
Dave Weigel was not an anomaly. There are lots of non-conservatives making money off the lie that they lean right.
thanks for the kind word, pard…
People do sprinkle them in at random. I've found that the idea of a possessive and when to use an apostrophe is a lost art. There was a sign at basketball team for my alma mater this winter that the sports shows kept showing. The kid had written "Fear the Beard's" on it. I kept screaming Beard's WHAT?! every time I saw it.
I can expect that Ms. Parker will soon be supporting every group of students who want to pray together over their lunches at their school cafeteria … waiting …. still waiting …….
remember, this is the washington Compost=the same "paper" that had Dave Weigel there "covering" conservatives while being a member of the commie conspiracist hate America gang called the JournOlistas. Poor Kathleen parker, I know what your problem is. You are jealous of Sarah Palins looks. While you look better than a typical leftist(at least your not hopelessly fugly, like say a Piglosi or a Babs Mikulski are), you cant stand the Arctic Fox because of her looks. Poor jealous Kathleen. You hate my wife too, Kathleen. A little older version of Michelle Malkin , and just as right.
In other words, like a typical RINO, Kathleen is about as smart as an icicle in Siberia in January.
Kathleen…it's about good sense and good manners. Something you liberals seem to lack in both categories.
Geez kathleen, just received the horrible news that Wapo was blown up by a close relative of tim Mcveigh!! Thank god you survived. I know your'e heartbroken at the loss of your friends and coworkers, But, The good lnews!! Walmart put in an above market bid for the property for expansion of its retail clothing section. I know you don't like the idea, but hey, who cares, its the 'right' thing to do!! Oh, by the way, good luck on your job search!
Whoops, Kathleen, forgot to add, that retail clothing secion at Walmart is going to have a great sale on burquas!!
The "long" of what Ms. Parker said:
Because they won't behead or stab people, those who oppose this mosque's construction should, um, have their feelings "hurt". Including the families of the September 11th dead.
The "short" of it:
"We surrender".
That is how to translate "nuance", "gravitas" and any other form of buzzthink.
Most of us had friends in college that talked that way under the influence and we wondered what the hell they were smoking. She obviously missed her classes in critical thinking.
That it hurts some people's feelings is well, irrelevant in a nation of laws. Has anyone told this twit about all the hate speech laws Congress has passed and that American college campuses have speech codes to protect all the innocent babes? As stated below, what is this woman on?
you got it. the left has no sense of honor, but are more than happy trying to use the right's sense of honor, the rule of law, fair play, etc., against us (see: 2000 Presidential Election). F___ THEM. show me an honorable loser and i'll show you a LOSER. in this, and so many other areas, it's long past time for the gloves to come off.
6) a preponderance of voters are civil, historic, & economic ignoramuses (ignorami?).
The idea that one should never have one’s feelings hurt — and the violent means to which some will resort in the protection of their own self-regard — has done harm rivaling evil. It isn’t a stretch to say that the greatest threat to free speech is, in fact, “sensitivity.”
******************************
Can we quote this the next time the PC crowd gets their knickers in a twist over something? Or are only liberals allowed to have sensitive feelings?
I read a book a few years back called "The Myth of the Rational Voter" and the author used statistics to make the argument (and quite convincingly I might add) that about 45-47.5% of voters will vote democrat regardless of any issue, and 45-47.5% will pull the lever for the GOP regardless of any issue. It's a waste of time to try and convince them otherwise.
That leaves between 5-10% of voters in the middle actually decide many elections. On the upside those voters tend to be better educated, pay more attention to issues and are more likely to research issues before forming an opinion. The reason I buy his theory is that pretty much describes me.
Personally I didn't vote for McCain or Obama for president. In my opinion neither man is worthy of the office. For McCain's service to our nation, I have nothing but the utmost respect. But I don't want that nut case anywhere near the Oval Office. Our first amendment is not "so called" freedom of speech. It is free speech.
Kathleen Parker: the poor man's Maureen Dowd. She is one of those convenient conservatives who lost what little principle they possessed when given some attention by the liberal press. Chris Matthews has her preening a lot on his show as the token conservative voice.
What a knucklehead. So now "sensitivity" shouldn't be considered. If that's the "new tolerance" what was all the flak about Dr. Laura's "insensitivity" in regard to using the "n" word??? I guess what Parker and the rest of her lefty chums mean to say, is that sensitivity to WORDS is important, but sensitivity to KILLING PEOPLE is not. The lefty culture that indoctrinated children with undeserved self esteem, now has produced two or three generations of supposed adults, who are excessively sensitive to WORDS, but reality, can be ignored when it's unpleasant. Like hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil monkeys, these childish moral relativists believe they are the arbiters of just what is a "sensitivity" issue. It is childish. It is wrong. It is inherently evil. In the past, this subjective moral relativism would be seen for just what it is: original sin, the belief that man determines right and wrong subjectively instead of subscribing to the objective morality established by God. Wake up Folks. That is the wrong path to take.
I never knew the Post was conservative.
Oh my gosh, what an idiot. Hurt feelings, sensitivity, and tolerance. And where will that get us Kathleen….enslaved and ruled by these people. No thank you. Give them an in and they will devour us as they have Sweden, France, etc.
You've just listed a few of the reasons that conservatives stopped reading KP. She was even kicked off Townhall.com because of her idiotic writing and slave like devotion to the progressives.
Her inner progressive took control and came out of the closet as the progressives took control of Congress in 2006 then became full blown in the run up to the election in 2008 and progressive control of the White House.
It never was conservative. They just trot KP out because she is the progressive, pseudo conservative that liberals like.
The numbers are closer to 30-35% will vote dem/rep.
Reads like she just graduated from high school.
However, a case can be made that those who always vote republican are smarter than those who always vote damocrat. BTW, I am not kidding. A lot of dems are just plain stoopid.
Just plain delusional.
Parker's piece hurts my feelings. Am I justified if I decide to set my car on fire in protest?
What liberals and many conservatives don't grasp is that Islam is an intolerant religion that exhorts its adherents to hatred, violence, and murder. The 9-11 terrorists were practicing their religion. People who believe in freedom and love have no obligation to be tolerant of Islam and should reject it outright.
A mosque at Ground Zero hurts my feelings very much. So, now what? Am I auto-justified in whatever I do? Somehow I don't think Parker would agree to that.
I think her entire head is made of styrofoam. I'll bet she could stick a pencil in it and keep talking.
LOL You don't blow up people, they don't care about your feelings.
Besides, infantile people are never satisfied so being nice never works.
she endorsed Obama, enough said. She is NO conservative. She is just part of the dishonest Liberal media. She is finally home.
Parker, Noonan Frum all Liberals posing as so called conservatives. Good little Obama supporters.
They all disgust me. Throw in that joker at MSNBC and the NYT guy.
Scar and Brooks, both nut-less wonders.
I learned all I needed to know about this "conservative" back in 2000 when she was applauding the Reno Justice Department for sending in the jackboots to snatch Elian Gonzalez and ship him back to Cuba at gunpoint.
She's Client Number 9's new squeeze. She washes his socks.
………and not at the top of her class.
Got that right.
They can't have real conservatives because they make too much sense and make liberals look stupid.
Let me build a Cathedral in Mecca and a Temple in Medina. That is how moderate muslims can show tolerance. Building a victory mosque on the ashes and bones of our dead who they murdered is not showing 'tolerance'
The soi-disant Sage of Winter Haven… barf
She is and always has been a selfpromotitarian. Maybe she'll get that Politico copy-editing job she's been angling for
Most people never heard of her until she insulted Sarah Palin.
At the risk of earning some thumbs-down from my fellow patriotic Americans, I have to say I sympathize with Parker.
I don;t SIDE with her – I just feel sorry for her situation.
To be hired as a conservative voice in order to add "balance" to a leftist rag like WaPo must be a nightmare for her. I mean, look at the elitist moonbats who troll here — can you imagine being surrounded by them in a nest of those elitist rats on a daily basis? (Makes me shiver at the horror….)
There's more than a slim chance that Kathleen slighted Palin and wrote this piece as well, just to keep those idiots off her back. This is a tough one — you know how the loony left is convinced it's all about us trying to deny the Muslims freedom of religion – and has little to do with our witnessing fellow Americans leaping to their deaths from a towering inferno.
I had a few libtards as employees and some days I'd make the mistake of having them work with me….alone….it quickly became a "me against them" headache. And as we are all aware, the dementia these dipsh!ts suffer from can be maddening when you can't escape them for a few hours in order to regroup and retain your sanity.
So, in essence, I feel bad for Parker. She might not be as liberal as she's been forced to portray herself to be. It could well be a case of self-preservation.
Then again…I've been wrong many, many times in my life…
