Courtesy of Howard Kurtz, the reliably liberal host of CNN’s Reliable Sources and, in his spare times, the media critic for the Washington Post, comes word that the Obama White House is none too pleased with the story that’s been raging through the blogosphere the past few days.
Dinesh D’Souza has drawn a torrent of criticism with a Forbes cover story that accuses President Obama of adopting “the cause of anti-colonialism” from his Kenyan father.
But while most detractors focus on the author–and Newt Gingrich, who embraced the critique–the White House is aiming its ammunition at the business magazine.
“It’s a stunning thing, to see a publication you would see in a dentist’s office, so lacking in truth and fact,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says in an interview. “I think it represents a new low.”
Gibbs is meeting with Thursday afternoon with Forbes’s Washington bureau chief, Brian Wingfield, to discuss his objections. “Did they not fact-check this at all, or did they fact-check it and just willfully ignore it?” he asks.
Nothing like a visit from the press secretary to focus the mind! But don’t expect a retraction from either Forbes or the Indian-born D’Souza:
The magazine would not make Editor-in-Chief Steve Forbes, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000, available for comment, or any other editor. The biweekly did issue a statement: “Dinesh D’Souza’s cover story was presented as an analysis of how the president thinks. No facts are in contention. Forbes stands by the story.”
But some facts are very much in contention, and D’Souza–who loosely based the article on his forthcoming book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage”–isn’t hesitant to discuss his work.
Reached separately in New York, D’Souza, 49, who worked in the Reagan White House, says his argument that the president was heavily influenced by the late Barack Obama Sr. is a “psychological theory.” But, he insists, “the idea that Obama has roots that are foreign is not an allegation, it’s a statement of fact.”
So what do you think? Baseless innuendo that revives the “birther” argument that Obama was not born in the U.S., or astute analysis of a man who spent most of his formative years either outside the country or off the mainland?
Be sure to read the Forbes piece and Jack Cashill’s response, “What D’Souza Doesn’t Get Quite Right,” at American Thinker. Meanwhile, the mystery of whom Barack Hussein Obama II really is — not where he was born, but who he is — continues to deepen.

Know the person by your enemies.
I read the American Thinker piece, but there is a lot said by the name you give yourself. Who else names themselves after Muhammad's horse critter.
Get the book, it's become obvious what Obama's problem WITH AMERICA really is "the dreams of my commie anti-Colonialist father" … and it was supposed to be an autobiography.
BOY OH BOY!!! I love it! the truth hurts I Guess. It got their shorts in a bunch. LOL!!
Barry we hardly new ya, as the saying goes. NOT.
As I said before, THE TRUTH HURTS!!
Can I ask a question here:
Would you ever, EVER dress up like that, EVER?
In case any one missed them;
Why barry IS the way barry is.

Hussein should take this opportunity to release all his records and transcripts, the same documents President Bush was given a colonoscopy over by the leftwing vermin in the media. The liberal propagandists probably don't want to know the truth: that Hussein was a substandard student who benefited tremendously from affirmative action. If he were judged on merit he'd be a congressional valet.
What an inept fool we have as president!
Even Carter was light years ahead of this idiot, in terms of leadership, the economy, and the military.
Obama is truthaphobic. Talk about being thin skinned.
Okay, wait. They had no problem with Time Magazine, a dentist office mag if ever there was one, despicably declaring that Israel doesn't want peace on its cover, but this they find appalling.
What jerks.
“It’s a stunning thing, to see a publication you would see in a dentist’s office, so lacking in truth and fact,”
Right, Forbes has NEVER been as hard hitting or factual as TIME, Newsweek, or People magazine. /sarc. off
D'Souza has always been well spoken and spot-on.
If you've never got the chance to see him debate Christopher Hitchens on religion, you're missing out: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-47121908...
Barry has no class whatsoever,Bush had to put up with far worse than anything that this fraud has endured, come November I expect some hearings and some records being opened, let's see what the fawning MSM think of their messiah when they are confronted with the reality that he actually does have no clothes!!!
The birther thing is a red herring. D'Souza discussed it with Glenn Beck yesterday: http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article.... He doesn't believe in the birther argument and even points out that there was a birth announcement in the local papers upon Obama's birth. That doesn't change the FACT, however, that Obama was raised in Indonesia and came to adopt his Kenyan father's views (as D'Souza points out, the book is "Dreams FROM My Father," not "Dreams OF My Father."
D'Souza can back up every point he makes. Why does Obama struggle so much with the truth? Does he really think we're *that* stupid?!
From what I've read, Dinesh D'Souza makes a strong case explaining Obama's world view.
As far as where Obama was born, I have never understood why that matters, because his mother was an American citizen, and from what I understand, any child born to an American citizen is automatically an American citizen. But maybe I'm wrong about that.
As far as Obama's college transcripts, etc., I read a few pages of Michelle Obama's Princeton senior thesis when it was on line. She would not have received a passing grade in the remedial English class I taught at our local community college. Either that or all my students were Ivy League material.
Who was that girl in the photo at the bottom of the article?
Dinesh is standing beside himself with glee, propagating subcontinental fear of foreigners, am thanking veddymuch!
not even on Halloween………….
Now Forbes knows how Fox feels.
Dinesh is great and I agree, but he didn't go far enough.
He left out all the relevant bits about his marxist past and his greater ambition. I think Obama does see things through anti-colonial eyes, but with a marxist prism. He wants to return the wealth to the "rightful owners"
Anti-colonialism and marxism, yes. But marxism explains both, and his past is undeniably marxist, too.
.
I'm betting that the White House is unhappy with Carla Bruni now too. (Tee hee)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article...
I love Carla Bruni.
Hussein is our Robert Mugabe.
Wah! I won! Don't criticize me!
This was an eye-opening read and was the first thing that I've seen that so comprehensively answers the questions about who Barry is. Maybe it is wrong, but D'Sopuza certainly has taken a bunch of pieces and made a comprehensive whole.
I think that, first the delay in responding and second the subsequent attack on Forbes, on D'Souza, the calling the Forbes Washington D.C. correspondent to the WH, all show to me that D'Souza hit close to home.
And Barry the Bitch is pissed.
Yes, he does.
Well, I'm infamous among my cousins for appearing in my fifth grade class photo wearing a, "SOCK IT TO ME!" t-shirt, so I should probably withhold judgement.
It's testimony to how sleazy the White House is these days that they would tell their liberal press henchmen to pour "birther sauce" on an article that has nothing to do with the birther argument, obviously on the assumption that few people will ever bother to actually read the piece in Forbes. We will thus have liberal quackpots authoritatively stating that D'Souza claims that Obama was born outside the US, and therefore deserves to be tossed down the Birther Hole. Meanwhile, the rest of the MSM will land in dentists' waiting rooms from sea to shining sea without a word of any of this.
Isn’t it great to get a lecture about honesty, from the scurrilous lying scumbags at the White House. The truth hurts!
If I were drunk enough, probably.
WOW!
ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO KILL ANOTHER BUSINESS! TAKE THEM DOWN NOW, OBAMA!
YEP.
INCOMPENTENCE HAS NO BOUNDARIES.
BY THE WAY–WHO HASN'T THIS ADMINISTRATION ATTACKED? I AM FEELING DEPRIVED…PLEASE ATTACK ME!
rowdy boots
LOL.
Apparently, Obama's rage is rooted in daddy issues. I can't wait to read D'Souza's book, released on October 4th and in time for Remember November.
I hope that D'Souza's next book is an explanation of Michelle's rage. Obviously, it's rage at trying to stuff a size 12 body into a size 4 dress.
Technically a child is automatically an American citizen if born on American soil. But the definition of American soil tends to be a bit flexible.
The government negotiates agreements that I can't remember what they're called, but for all essential legal purposes, a foreign military base is considered American soil. I had a friend who was born on a base in Germany and he explained it to me. Same deal goes with embassies. On that piece of land, American law is in charge because its technically American soil. Same reason American police can't enter a Russian embassy in Washington.
All that aside, I agree, its a non issue. I think the only reason it's still even an issue is because the MSM, the left and the administration find it an attractive distraction. 'Oh, those silly conspiracy wings nuts on the right.'
Why on earth would they just cough up the documents to end the issue when they can use it for political leverage? One thing people on the left know is how to use the MSM to manipulate the right. It's their attack machine.
When it rains it pours,I guess Mr Obama thought he could get a free pass forever,no questions asked.Welcome to the real world Mr President.
Might I add that karma does visit EVERYONE,whether you believe it or not.
Teh Won is finding it increasingly difficult to hide his past. He must really regret letting the truth slip out in Dreams From My Father: "To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.”
He spend his years at Occidental and Columbia as a Marxist poser. He is still hiding his college records. But, the truth will get out nevertheless.
Ozero is a Tiermondeist, see Global Poverty Act.
Enlarge my avatar pic and tell me the two gay blades sitting so close on the sofa aren't packing each other's fudge.
The truth hurts.
By the way, who's the muslim in the red shirt wearing a shower curtain?
OBAMA'S COLLEGE ROOMMATE SPEAKS OUT
By Wayne Allyn Root, June 6th, 2010
Barack Obama is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos, thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within.
Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University. They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands…
Complete article… http://usataxpayer.org/htm/vids.asp?A=272649
Obama not born in Hawaii! http://usataxpayer.org/htm/vids.asp?A=7333793
From what I have been able to read about the toddler in chief is that he never had to work. There was always someone else to pick up his slack and pay the bills, even in school. In short, he was a lazy lout. And from what I have seen of him as potus, I don't doubt for one instance that he is the same slacker and layabout he was in his youth.
Yep, Ozero spent his college years hanging out with the hate America left. And he hasn't changed at all.
I was at the doctors office today, reading Vanity Fair. Did Robert Gibbs say anything about the inaccuracies in the Sarah Palin piece from a few weeks ago? I didn't think so.
D'Souza is a native of India and he nailed this subject dead on!
“I think it represents a new low.” No Robert, that would be 'your' job.
…only long enough to ram his agenda through.
These are strange times we live in and this has got to be the strangest man ever to be elected president. I recently had a conversation with a person who voted for him and they are full of regrets now. I asked, good grief did you not listen to anything he was saying? I blame the main stream media for not veting this guy and the people who let themselves be lead down the yelow brick road. What a sad time for us all.
I am quite sure that justice breyer would classify Dsouza statement as hate speach and not protected. Just ask Kagan.
"Meanwhile, the mystery of whom Barack Hussein Obama II really is — not where he was born, but who he is — continues to deepen."
————————————————
EXACTLY! That's been my contention all this while — it's not about him being born in Hawaii, the issue really is just WHO this guy IS. All that hidden information about a brief life (so far), it's absurd to think he'd be trustworthy on his word only after going to such lengths to avoid being clear about who he is.
I also think that calling people making inquiries and/or complaints about this mysterious non-entity in the White House "Birthers" is an entirely misleading attempt by some to dismiss all inquiries about the guy in the White House.
D'Souza's article is frank and meaningful and it's obviously rankled Obama to such a degree, well, look at all the Anita-Dunn-deployed media today yelling about D'Souza and his article. Remember, an opinion piece in a magazine isn't something Obama can stifle except to try to ruin the magazine and the author.
So, now they don't LIKE "dentist's office magazines"? What about all those other "dentist's office magazines" that Obama and the Democrats used to sell his celebrity to the world not so long ago?
Now he's at war with "dentists" and their "office magazines"?
The logic fails in that "birth announcement in the local papers" thing, though. Anyone can and anyone does place birth announcements for births that occur in local papers, it doesn't prove that the birth was local or took place at any particular place, it simply means someone called it in and gave a name and a birth and requested an announcement. Clearly the grandparents did so at the time of Obama's birth, but they also cleverly withheld anything more about that birth.
Just remember, that the founder of China's communist party — who was born in mainland China — and Obama's own half-sister, who was born in Indonesia, both have the very same "certificate of live birth" document from the state of Hawaii as does Barack Obama expect America to accept proves he was born in Hawaii.
I also agree that the "Birther" thing is a redherring of an argument, BUT the whole point of that inquiry is as to WHO "Barack Hussein Obama" and/or "Barry Soetoro" actually is. Not the documents specifically but inquiry as to why one person who gained the Presidency can remain quite so covertly hidden from public knowledge as to identity.
That should concern everyone…meanwhile, I agree with D'Souza on just about everything I've ever heard and read from him, as also with his perspectives and values. But dismissing who Obama is as to identity just because there're two birth announcements in the local HI papers at/near the time of his birth (so we're assuming on their face value) is very flimsy. Those announcements were called in or mailed in, hardly "proof" of a birth as to where and when it occured, simply are colloquialisms or, rather, someone's opinions ("print this, write that, tell the public this" isn't "proof," it's opinion).
For example:
two people live in Indiana, their adult child has a child anywhere (there or anywhere else); the two people in Indiana call two local newspapers from their vacation home in Miami (or from right there in Indiana) and ask for an announcement of their adult child's child — announcements made, printed as requested.
The only thing that "proves" is a child was born but it does not evidence when or where, it simply proves someone (usually, grandparents who want the public to know they've had a grandchild) notiifes the public of a birth.
The child could be born a month before, or a year before, it's irrrelevant to the "announcement" that carries only what the person/s requesting the announcement/s want it to tell the public.
"Napolean was born on the date we're providing here to Ms. Seniorita Napoliatano and Mr. and Mrs. Senior Napoliatano of Here We Are in (Any State Here) announce the proud birth of their new grandchild."
Proves nothing except someone composed copy and phoned it in and a paper printed it – same as the dailykos site reprinting a GRAPHIC FILE does not "prove" that an actual or credible document actually exists. Graphic files hosted on the internet are NOT the original, nor proof that they've reproduced the original, either correctly or at all.
And it is Obama who is keeping the "Birther" thing alive because he is aware that "it" can't be proven one way or another, not with his information-blackout (and it's why he issued that Executive Order as his very first deed in the Presidency, to prevent all public inquiries into who he is to be prevented) (and WHY would ANYone do that?).
He keeps the "Birther" ridicule alive because he's aware that it roils certain people BECAUSE it's a never-ending discussion that takes time to understand and there's no end in site to the discussion…so he keeps it alive.
It also helps him and the Left ridicule anyone else. The term suggests anyone raising any questions about Obama's very person are ridiculous and I think everyone on the Right who participates in ridiculing people with questions is simply a useful fool.
It's not about the inquiry, it is, indeed, about who the guy in the Presidency is. D'Souza's article just touches the surface of the problems in that regard.
Takeaway:
Cultural opinion leaders are free to psychoanalyze and deconstruct and otherwise excoriate conservatives to their heart's content. E.g. "Bush on the Couch," etc.
But look into the mental superstructures and substructures of liberals? No. Their motives are ipso facto beyond reproach.
d'Souza and Gingrich are geniuses for realizing that all American liberals, just like Obama, have anti-colonial Kenyan fathers.
Duh duh duh.
On this general topic:
"When I asked this insider if the media gave candidate Obama an assist throughout his campaign, it elicits a sly smile. Sure – we definitely had people in the media on our side. Absolutely. We went so far as to give them specific ideas for coverage. The ones who took that advice from the campaign were granted better access, and Obama was the biggest story in 2008, so yeah, that gave us a lot of leverage."
And you would be right!
From one of his own staffers:
" Obama loved to campaign. He clearly didn’t like the work of being President though, and that attitude was felt by the entire White House staff within weeks after the inauguration….Well, he takes his meetings just like any other president would, though even then, he seems to lack a certain focus and on a few occasions, actually leaves with the directive that be given a summary of the meeting at a later date. I hear he plays a lot of golf, and watches a lot of television – ESPN mainly. I’ll tell you this – if you want to see President Obama get excited about a conversation, turn it to sports. That gets him interested. You start talking about Congress, or some policy, and he just kinda turns off. It’s really very strange. I mean, we were all led to believe that this guy was some kind of intellectual giant, right? Ivy League and all that. Well, that is not what I saw. Barack Obama doesn’t have a whole lot of intellectual curiosity.
[...]
"Obama is not up to the job of being president. He simply doesn’t seem to care about the work involved. You want to know what? Obama is lazy. He really is. And it is getting worse and worse. Would another four years of Obama be the best thing for America? No it would not. What this country needs is a president who is focused on the job more than on themselves. Obama is not that individual. I actually hope he doesn’t run again.
[...]
"I think President Obama understands hardly any of America. That is probably a big reason he appears so lost these days…Hopefully without sounding disrespectful, I would tell the President to pull his head out of his ass. To man up, grow up, and start to pay attention to what the American people want and need. That is a big-big flaw with this president.
" He comes at it from the position of thinking he knows what we need because we don’t have the ability to know for ourselves. And he doesn’t respect any opinion that is different from his own. He just doesn’t care to know any other side to any given issue. I really believe it’s a maturity thing. I think our president needs to grow up"

This interview confirms most of my assessment of Barack Obama 's character, made even before he was elected.
Frank,
I'll answer your question: While no 1000 word theory could ever explain a complex human being, there is definitely a very real aspect of Obama's nature that hits home (too close to home for the WH) with D'Souza's piece.
Let me say that, a) I have personally sat in the homes of Luo tribesmen and b) I am a published scholar (closet conservative) who has some experience with colonialism, both the 1) third-world kind and 2) academic, ivory tower kind.
I'm not sure I can prove here that D'Souza has a very workable theory, nor do I have the time, other than to say that some things have to be experienced. Unless you have lived outside of the US, especially in parts of the world where colonialism is an issue, I'm not sure it will make sense. Until you have tried to explain ice to an African tribesman or proven Hollywood movies are actually fake to a Pashtun sheepherder, or similar experiences, it will be hard to understand. I'm not trying to be elitist, just honest.
CONTINUED
The reason why this theory resonates with D'Souza and Gingrich and myself (if I can include me with them) is because we are all academics with third world experience. Most journalists, especially MSM ones who are ripping D'Souza, are not academics and don't really understand colonialism. But I am sure Obama does–he understands both kinds of colonialism.
The biggest 'problem' with D'Souza's article is that very few average Americans have any idea what colonialism is, since the US has really only dealt with it from the 2) academic kind in the occasional liberal arts college classes.
Btw, it may not be obvious to most people but anti-colonialism and Liberation theology (Jeremiah Wright's influence) are hand-in-glove worldviews. They not only work together, they are driven by similar interests and perspectives. It's natural that Obama would be influenced by one and then at home in the church of another.
Poor little Barry was abandoned too often during his formative years. His personality today is a result of Affirmative Action, White Guilt and typical negro arrogance.
WHOM?
I read the article. it is superb. It should be recommended reading for everyone who wants to understand the roots of Obama's incompetence.
Forbes got their problems, even if it is true. Look at T.I.M.E. magazine this week saying that Israel hates Peace…
I said in a comment to a previous story on this issue, understanding who a person is has a lot to do with understanding where they came from. I'm not a birther, though I can see why some people are. My interest in this analysis is purely academic: I want to see if D'Souza's profile of the President helps explain Obama's laissez faire handling of the office of the President and his simultaneous destruction of the fabric of American exceptionalism. The left was all too happy to accuse GWB of being a rich boy son of GHWB who "dodged" military service by joining the National guard, and who went to war with Iraq to "finish daddy's job." Why the heck should Obama be spared a critique of his own upbringing and his relationship to his father's politics? It's just another attempt by liberals to stifle any analysis or historical review of their Messiah.
Are you one of the DOJ drones, who are paid to sit around and target the blogosphere for saturation with Adinistration talking points and propaganda?
If not, you should be………..
Good point, Dooney. Honestly, I agree with you on the birth certificate thing. I don't understand why Obama won't step forward with it unless he's hiding something.
However, I think D'Souza is wise to stay away from that because it's become something that's so poo-poo'ed, it would make people discredit him right off the bat. I find it funny that the media's trying to go down that path to discredit when D'Souza specified that he doesn't think that's the case.
Using conventional methods of deducement, which we've all recently become familiar with, wouldn't any criticism of Dinesh D’Souza be considered racism?
Gibbs looks pretty snazzy in his Gestapo uniform.
I rarely find the occasion to say this, but your response is racist.
I am stunned that after all this time in office, he is still so unaware of his position that he makes a statement on this type of "news".
They should not however pay him/her/it veddymuch, as his/her/its output is of poor quality.
Of course they're upset with him… he's right.
Am correcting you, sorrymuch. If Obama has a Kenyan anti-colonialist world view because his father, whom he had almost NO contact with , allegedly did, then Dinesh Frishzizzle has abandoned his subcontipeeps to come here for goodly American job in medicine, engineering or science. Thanking you. He invites the ridicule he so insanely spreads, and you won't call him out, so, am sorry-calling Dishwash Frazshizzle loony tune. Pardon me.
I'd say that D'Souza's article has struck the target square amidship, based on the hysterical bleating from the left
I read the whole piece and I gotta say, a lot of things fell into place for me
Obama Explained: he didn't run for President because he loves America
How quickly the racism comes out. It must be just boiling under the surface of all "Progressives".
Dishwash Frazshizzle fitting in crazy foriegn-bashing, yes?
I am think thanking Dishwash Disfrizzle Pajikstan veddymuch foreign bashing, yes? He has finally proven to be the naked moron he always managed to avoid showing when he hid behind his "scholarly" mien. What a dip$hit. Of course, ,he can't help it, he has a subcontinental world view. Much like Alfred E. Newtman can't hide his morally bankrupt personal life's effect on his holier than thou persona. They're both too hate-filled and insecure to avoid going too far to appeal to the nativist base of the Grand Old Bircher/Party. You'd better hope they can distract the media from Chastine O'Donnell's campaign for Good Witch of the Senate.
You need to go back to HoPo if you want to make racist comments. Your kind is over there.
Absofrigginlutely.
Then debate the article, genius, point by point. Oh, wait, you can only namecall and really have nothing to say?
