Think about it, the greatest threat to white people is not black people; its other white people. Hmmm…The Civil War, World War I, World War II. Catholic vs Protestant Ireland. Germany vs Poland. Christians vs Jews. Mormons vs The United States. White people hate each other more than they hate black peole. Black people in America are just caught up between the grinding stones of humanities inhumanity toward man as it is generated in America. Now the story is much the same in Africa, where the chief players are black people.

I didn't see or hear any cheering. I heard the empathatic sounds of agreement and understanding pf black people in the south whose families had been treated with decades of racist meaness from white people. As a young African American marine corps officer returning home from overseas in 1973, and in my green uniforn, I was threatened with a shotgun in a restaurant in Fayetteville, NC. I and my 6 yr old boy were threatened and not served because of our race. One thing that came to mind during that incident was "if men from my platoon, both black and white, were there with me they would have torn that man apart. Thankfully a white army captain from nearby Fort Bragg came to my aide. He, his wife and two children, along with me and my little boy, all walked out together. He refused to pay the restaurant. If I couldn't eat there, he and his family would not eat there…GRRRRRR.

What many rightwing thinkers fail to realize is that Shirley Sherrod was thinking through the prism of her father's murder years earlier by a white man over a dispute about livestock. That man was never brought to trial. Her NAACP speech revealed that she had to deliberately gain a level of forgiveness for all white people and do what was right for the Spooner family; which she did and became longstanding friends with them. It amazes me how 99% of the rightwing bloggers on this case want to blithely forget how the murder of her father first drove her sentiment toward the first white farmers that came to her for help. At the time she was not with the USDA but a worker in an organization to help black farmers save their farms in the south when acutely racist elements in the USDA (at that time) would not help black farmers. I was born in Georgia in 1949 and some farms in my family were lost. Black farmers were neglected by the USDA because powerbrokers wanted their lands.

Sorry to burst your rightwing bubble but actually, Glen Beck referred to the case on his radio show early Tuesday and indicated then that he would readdress the matter that night on his Fox tv show. Thats what stampeded officials at USDA to force her resignation. Glen duped you all by not mentioning his earlier radio announcement…to make it seem like he was totrally innocent of the machination. In fact, Fox directors had already spread the word that everybody would jump on Breitbart's new clip because he had been the propellant in the successful ACORN forced dissolution. That is why O'Reilly got caught out there and Hannity first aired the clip, they thought they had another slam dunk on liberals. OReilly was man enough to give a tepid resi9gnation for calling for her apology. Hannity still slinks under the radar for his part in the budding Fox smear machination.

I'm not keen on the word "threat" as you use it, but I get your point. And on that point I'm reminded of a part of a business management philosophy, taken from studies of social behavior. If you assemble groups to routinely associate, whether in a work context or just life in general, "tribes" form. So, you are right that we have to look out for "others" who want to demean or somehow detract from people for their own benefit. It could be white or black, or it could be liberal or conservative, or it could be man or woman, or it could be English speaking or Spanish speaking, on and on and on. It boils down to a we-them kind of mentality. And the media today feeds the frenzy like I haven't seen before in my lifetime. And even worse, both sides of the political aisle are constantly looking for ways to leverage the tribal behavior, too. Sometimes their influence creates the explosive nature. Clearly, playing the race card against the Tea Party or against the NAACP has been like nitroglycerin.
