“CBS, 60 Minutes — they built their careers on this. So, that’s the tradition I’m following in sort of a new age journalism.”
Careful, Mr O’Keefe ! Don’t go there! Nothing in the FBI affidavit even hints that you brushed with the type of swinishness and ethical squalor 60 Minutes was capable of, especially on April 16, 2000.
I’ll report. Y’all decide:
On April 16, 2000, viewers of CBS’ 60 Minutes saw Dan Rather interviewing Elian Gonzalez’s father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez. America saw a bewildered and heartsick father simply pleading to be allowed to have his motherless son accompany him back to Cuba, his cherished homeland. How could anyone oppose this? How could simple decency and common sense possibly allow for anything else?
“Did you cry?” the pained and frowning Dan Rather asked the “bereaved” father during the 60 Minutes drama.“A father never runs out of tears,” Juan (actually, the voice of Juan’s drama school-trained translator) sniffled back to Dan. And the 60 Minutes prime-time audience could hardly contain their own sniffles.
Here’s what America didn’t see:
“Most of the questions Dan Rather was asking Elian’s father during that 60 Minutes interview were being handed to him by Gregory Craig,” recalls Pedro Porro, who served as Rather’s in-studio translator during the taping of the famous interview. Dan Rather would ask the question in English into Porro’s earpiece and Porro would translate it into Spanish for Elian’s heavily-guarded father. “Juan Miguel Gonzalez was surrounded by Castro security agents the entire time he was in the studio with Rather and Craig.”
Officially, Gregory Craig served as attorney for Elian’s father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez. This humble man worked as a hotel doorman in a nation where the average monthly salary is $17. The high-rolling Gregory Craig, a Bill Clinton crony and until recently Obama’s White House Counsel, then worked for Washington D.C.‘s elite firm, Williams & Connolly, one of America’s highest-priced law firms.

Upon accepting the case, Craig had flown to Cuba for a meeting with Fidel Castro. Craig’s remuneration, we learned shortly after his return, came from a “voluntary” fund set up by the United Methodist Board of Church and Society and “administered” by the National Council of Churches. The same MSM reporters and pundits, who routinely erupt with snide snorts midway through any statement by any Republican, reported this item with a straight face. But then, this media also reports that Castro’s Cuba provides free and exquisite health-care. And the explanation of Craig’s compensation issued from the same source. So no surprise. Said Porro:
It was obvious that Gregory Craig and Rather where on very friendly terms. They were joshing and bantering back and forth, as Juan Miguel sat there petrified, under the constant vigilance of Castro’s security men. Craig was stage managing the whole thing—almost like a movie director. The taping would stop and he’d walk over to Dan, hand him a little slip of paper, say something into his ear. Then Rather would read straight from the paper.
“At one point Craig stopped the taping almost like a movie director yelling “Cut!” I was confused for a moment,” recalls Mr Porro, until Craig complained that Juan Miguel’s answers were not coming across from his translator with “sufficient emotion.” “So Dan Rather shut everything down for a while and some of the crew drove to a drama school in New York. They hired a dramatic actor to act as a translator, and brought him back.”
Okay roll ‘em!
I probably should have walked out, but I’d been hired by CBS in good faith and I didn’t know exactly how the interview would be edited—how it would come across on the screen. I might have known, but you never know these things play out until you actually see it.
A week later, Janet Reno’s INS maced, kicked, stomped, gun-butted and tear-gassed their way into Lazaro Gonzalez’s house, wrenched a bawling six-year-old child from his family at machine-gun point, and bundled him off to a Stalinist nation (against his father’s true wishes.) They left 102 people injured, some seriously. Many of the injured were ladies who had brandished dangerous weapons. These weapons were rosaries.
No “60 Minutes” “investigative report” on that however.
As mentioned, upon accepting the case, Gregory Craig had flown to Cuba to confer with “El Lider Maximo” (translates almost exactly to Der Führer in German). To effectively stage-manage the boy’s shanghaiing, Craig explained to Castro, he needed Juan Miguel in the U.S. According to most accounts, Castro balked at this. No plantation owner likes his slaves traveling (unescorted) outside his plantation. Plus, Castro was no doubt privy to Juan Miguel’s early communications with his Miami cousins, thanking them profusely and saying he’d be soon make his own escape and join Elian.
So it took a little doing, but Craig finally prevailed—that Castro’s “escorts” would constantly accompany Juan Miguel in the U.S. (as witnessed by Pedro Porro) was probably the gist of the deal with Craig.
So in effect, the man who until recently served as Obama’s Chief White House Counsel, once agreed to function as a fully deputized agent for a Stalinist regime’s KGB-trained secret police, and arranged to have Castro’s child-kidnapping smokescreened by his chums at CBS.

And lest we forget, the Deputy Attorney General who draped the legal veneer over the above was none other than Eric Holder.

Despicable! I knew there had to be more to the story. There isn't a place in h*ll hot enough for everyone who participated in the abuse of this little boy.
Wait, I thought that Cuba was F***ing Disneyland compared to America. Damn you Sean Penn and Danny Glover for leading me down the wrong path…
Seriously, the look on poor Elian's face yanks at my heart strings. Damn those people for making that poor boy go back to that shit hole of a country.
And lest we forget, the Deputy Attorney General who draped the legal veneer over the above was none other than Eric Holder.
This boy's mother risked her life and lost her life for her boy's freedom. And that is all I remember!
Thank you so much for featuring this! My blood STILL boils when I think of it!
OK, but why would Craig go to these extremes. Was it just for the money? Where is the link to your statement that the father thanked his cousins and said he would escape later. I don't recall hearing that at the time.
I remember this very clearly since I watched the whole thing on TV at the time. …Fox, if I remember correctly. I was angry about it then and more so today. How in the Hell did we let these people get control of our government?
I'll never forget. And I'll never forget Holder secured the Mark Ridge pardon. I did NOT know this about Craig and Dan Blather. These gutter slime will get theirs.
Why does everyone require a link these days? I remember it. It was even covered by Fox News.
It's always good to question, though…especially the internet. Just because anything is in writing doesn't make it true.
Trust but verify.
A very shameful episode in US history.
What a true scum Holder is. I cant wait to see these progresssives er commie punks pay for what they are doing and have done. I despise them and what they stand for not to mention the wayss they operate. Ridding this country of Odumblo and crew will be the best thing to ever happen to this country. God I hope we can last long enough to see this happen.
Why does this story not shock me? Hey,this just in, 60 Minutes has to lay off a lot of folks. I guess the nonstop puff pieces with Obama are starting to lose some punch.Of course, that won't stop Katie Couric from doing another puff piece during the Super Bowl pregame.Kate's following to follow in Rather's footsteps. One more thing, let's get Holder fired.
How about that idiot swat officer. I would imagine that under questioning he would respond "I vas only following orders". I hope he's back at his real job at Mr. Donut. At the same time, the kid could have had a squirt gun.

what we couldn't believe is the conservatives who thought Elian needed to be re-united with his 'father'…
In Communist Cuba, father ain't the biological dad. It's 'Papa' Fidel. He was returned to a cummunist state that gives NO parental rights whatsover. It is that simple fact that highlights the fraud- evil fraud- of Clinton, and Janet (just one of the guys) Reno's decision to punish this lad with a life of indentured servitude to an evil regieme.
May they sleep poorly at night…
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was barely awake in the wee hours of the morning on the West Coast typing my response on a Free Republic thread on the Elian situation. Beside me was a TV tuned to Roseanne's ghastly short-lived talk show on to break up the silence. Suddenly, Roseanne disappeared without a warning, and there was the live scene of Federal officers driving away with Elian in tow. The Clinton WH had obliterated a promise to Elian's American relatives not to snatch him over the Easter weekend, and their show of trying to bring the conflict to a civil conclusion proved to be just another Janet Reno lie, just like in Waco.
Clinton, Reno, and all these leftist are nothing more then American Nazis . They didn't even arrest Mob Godfathers in this manner. They should all be in jail. We are now reaping the reward if electing the pig Bill Clinton for eights as we haven't seen the last of what he and his wife did.
Dan Rather has to be one of the most shameless phonies to ever come thru the ranks of CBS News. The stories of Rather wandering through the Vietnamese bars while “on assignment," carrying his holstered pistol over his shoulder are priceless. However, not anymore so than his attempts to cast himself as some kind of bigger-than-life descendent of the Ed Murrow “legacy.” *****
It has been widely reported that Rather spent little time out in the field reporting while in Nam. Most often he reportedly could be found in local bars dressed in fresh khakis, swapping tales and generally being seen by US servicemen and colleagues as a clown. Couple this with his famous Kenneth charade, his Texas humble pie shtick, his "just one of the boys persona, and two miserable failed attempts (one each) to ambush Bush 1 and Bush 2 on his evening news broadcast and you have to ask yourself, "how did this guy ever get as far as he did?"*****
Once again, further evidence of America's decline.
Wow. I had to read it a second time just to make sure I understood it correctly. From what I do understand, it sounds as if the armed guards were there to escort Elian's father like a prisoner. Not protecting him from us. At the time I thought that maybe Janet Reno and her superiors had done something that I finally could agreed with. I should have known better.
Ladies and gentlemen, the true surprise is not that Fidel, his henchmen, and their enablers would stoop so low and prey upon our emotions to commit a vile act.
The true surprise is that we are shocked and surprised about it at all.
I still do not know if that is a good or bad thing.
That was a very shameful day when Elian was kidnapped by the U.S. government.
I think Eric Holder is a member of the "Hate America" crowd. want some interesting reading? Google "eric holder gitmo."
Holder and a law firm he was with represented many of the Gitmo terrorists and are one of the reasons that the terrorists have been held so long without a trial.
From the nationalreview online, 11-17-09, "The principal reason there were so few military trials is the tireless campaign conducted by leftist lawyers to derail military tribunals by challenging them in the courts. Many of those lawyers are now working for the Obama Justice Department. That includes Holder, whose firm, Covington & Burling, volunteered its services to at least 18 of America’s enemies in lawsuits they brought against the American people. (During 2007 alone, Covington contributed more than 3,000 hours of free, top-flight legal assistance to our enemy detainees.)…It is mind-boggling that the delay in completing commission trials would be derided by Eric Holder, a lawyer whose firm is among those responsible for the litigation-driven delay that became a lawfare triumph for al-Qaeda. Holder and his comrades did everything they could do to undermine the commission system, both in legal motions and in public appearances accusing the Bush administration of torture, war crimes, and disregard for the legal rights of terrorists." http://article.nationalreview.com/414647/justice-...
‘All that’s necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing.’

My problem is more with the meat head robots like that ahole in the picture that would actually follow "The Orders". to do something like this. Look at that robots face people he is the type of automaton who without thought whether it is right or wrong would gun you and your family down at the orders of our Fuhrer Obama. I have been in close proximity to law enforcement people and many not all but many would just do what they are told up to deadly force without question. Does SS or Gestapo ring a bell? DON'T EVER count on law enforcement to do the Right Thing. They will just march to any orders given to them by there trainers.
You were not paying attention, I guess.
Could never understand why, if we wanted to promote family values, we didn't insist the father to come here and live in FL…Elian's mother died trying to get him out..Sending a kid back to Cuba seemed brutal…Just a bunch of totalitarians…Now we BBObama in charge of the Ministry of LOVE….
If I was on the SWAT squad that day, I'd a phoned in sick…
So this is how it went down. Not surprising
Although none of these Clinton people and their media would be capable of coming to the right decision on purpose, I believe they made the right decision to send Elian back to his father. There are certain things that should be controlled by Law of Nations principles. There would be no good excuse for Brazil to not send the American boy Sean Goldman to his father in the US, but that would by a lot more murky if the US kept Elian from his father.
This is so amazing on so many levels…I frigin' knew there was something very fishy with this story…Now I see…But not completely..
Anyboby figure out why this kid was so important to Castro? Elian can't be the only boy to make it across…Somewhere, somewow, there is a money angle that has not come to light…Hey DollarBill Clinton is involved…Need I say more???
People forget what a total jerk Clinton was. This, Waco, Ruby Ridge and these are the ones we know about. Of course Clinton knew nothing seen nothing. And like a cold sore the Clinton's just keep coming back. If they were alive in the time of the founders they would have been imprisoned as traitors.
.
Marxism never sleeps…
Hillary, unelected first lady, slept with 900 private FBI files of political enemies list under her pillow… can you imagine… imagine Laura Bush doing this! And the democrats pound on the notion that Republicans would violate privacy rights?
.
Those with good memories soon realize how small the world is!! It is amazing that all these people from long ago, are still so tightly woven together!
I always figured Clinton sent him back in part because he feared Castro. Remember Jimmah Carter's bungling of the Cuban Refugee Crisis crisis when then Gov. Clinton was forced to take 25,000 Marielitos which he detained at Ft. Chaffee, AR? Most people won't but I imagine Clinton had nightmares of a quarter million refugees floating into FL for him to deal with if he didn't comply.
fish compared to the "Law Enforcement" who kidnapped Elian from his relatives' home and force him back to Cuba.
Yup. The new SS for sure. If we lose our second amendment rights the boots will be on our necks in no time at all. Law enforcement in this country is no better then any fascist force without our right to defend ourselves.
I just watched NBC Evening News w/ Brian Williams…They seemed to have missed the story…Shocking…
And my blood boils too..
Harley2002,
I pray to God Almighty that you are wrong. I believe that the Obama regime will be shaken off and stomped before it can get the fangs in place. Many more people are aware of this administrations evil ideology and willingness to use unprecedented tactics, than there were in the Clinton years. The poor dupe holding the gun probably regrets this more than anyone except Miguel himself. Elian was taken up into the commie elite to be made into a brainwashed "people's hero", but will hopefully be able to think clearly again someday.
Janet Reno is a South Park cartoon, and PLEASE don't bring R.E.M. into this horrible truth about Elian's exile to Cuba. Why is that I always think of Janet Reno when I hear Janet Napolitano's name?
The Obamunists want to turn all of our children over to people like Fidel and Hugo.
Yes sir! This is why Obama/Holder don't want military tribunials. They don't want military lawyers representing the terrorist thugs. They want Holder's buddies to get the billing time. This is blatant corruption at its finest!
You think that's what it takes to get her off? God save us from governance by menopausal women, and it takes one to know one.
We should have done what was morally right, regardless if international pressure. These clowns are what Lech Walesa was talking about earlier this week when he said that America was no longer the moral leader in the world in addition to other less than flattering comments that the government deserved.
I was so sad about the whole incident. It never made any sense to me why the Gov. would be so involved with Elian.
I knew that there was more to the story. The Clintons and their like have a lot to answer for. when will people wake up the fact that that many leaders in the Democratic party are not for the "little guy" certainly I would of thought that elian's case would have proven this.
A horrific reminder that even “moderate” liberals love and emulate fascistic thugs.
That idea of "moral leader" is dangerous. I guess we could be led to believe that Americans can take Haitian children from their parents, like the recent case in the media.
You have neighbors who fly flags? What country do you live in??
Being a moral leader is not just dangerous it can be fatal. That should not stop us from doing the right thing. What has got our country into dire straits is moral equivocating. We need to stop that now. And taking children from their parents is not the right thing.
I read today that Dan Rather has tearfully begged "The Enlightened One" to save the Media.
Rather said, "A truly free and independent press is the RED beating heart of democracy and freedom,” “This is not something just for journalists to be concerned about, and the loss of jobs and the loss of newspapers, and the diminution of the American press’ traditional role of being the watchdog on power. This is something every citizen should be concerned about.”
What Rather and his ilk forgot, the Soviets didn't have a free press – the had Pravda.
I also saw where Perky Couric is on the ropes too due to declining viewership and revenue..
Fair and Balanced = FOX News
Watchdog = ROFLMAO!!!!!!
In closing, RIP MSM, you won't be missed.
Wow, what a punch line and what a heartbreaking story.
Old news to me, but seriously, you read a story like this, and see a photo like that last one, then how is it possible for a righteous man not to utterly hate shysters and pigs? Sorry, but I lost that battle years ago. Hope they all die the lingering miserable deaths I think they deserve, and then go to hell where I think they belong. Worse for the leftist ~scarequotes~journalists~/scarequotes~ who abet and enable them. Progressive= Communist= Fascist= Shyster= Pig. No honorable man would be any of those things, because they are all exactly the same.
He met with Janet Reno in her office. She could have told him "You and Elian can both stay here in America" but instead told him she would send Elian back to Cuba. Reno broke many US laws by doing what she did, and should still be in jail. Instead she is a Democratic party heroine. It's pathetic
Like Dar al Harb said, you must not have followed closely enough.
I will never understand why Conservatives get this story so wrong. There is a law that is in place (and has been for decades) that if you reach the shore from Cuba, you get citizenship. If you are picked up at sea, you are returned. Despite this, Congress decided that it would be OK to extend citizenship to Elian and give him to distant relatives he'd never met before because it would be better for him. I don't care about Dan Rather, Greg Craig, or Fidel Castro. Right is right. This kid belonged with his father. Anyone who thinks our Government should insert itself into individual families and tell them who should raise which children has no business calling themselves a Conservative.
Would we sit still if the reverse happened and Cuba decided to keep an American child because they consider their country to be superior? A stupid case that was badly handled from the beginning. I still can't believe people are moaning and whining about it. IT'S NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S BUSINESS!!! Period.
So you're saying with Waco we should have allowed the children to remain in the cult run by a child molester (an extremely well-armed child molester)? Do we normally ask permission of pedophiles before we arrest them? If they resist arrest and shoot at law enforcement, do we normally give them a few months to go back to their preferred activities while we negotiate?
Ugh….how can any Conservative defend child molesters, not to mention a cult full?
If you're simply saying it was handled badly, then that's fine, but what does it have to do with Clinton? Do you think the President makes the call on ATF and FBI raids? I don't like it when people blame everything that happens on a President, and I know that people around here complained when it was done to Bush. There was plenty to complain about with Bubba in charge. Can we avoid the wacky conspiracy theories about our federal agents intentionally murdering innocent citizens? It's really disgusting when the Left does it, so obviously it's no better when it comes from the Right.
Yes….how dare they follow our laws (which dictated that Gonzalez not be granted citizen status, and that he be returned to his next of kin). We must hate them…..a lot!
Reno routinely trashed the law and constitution of the U.S. and seemed to enjoying doing so. She has so much blood on her hands – including that of innocent children – that she has no place to go but H*ll.
"So it took a little doing, but Craig finally prevailed—that Castro’s “escorts” would constantly accompany Juan Miguel in the U.S. (as witnessed by Pedro Porro) was probably the gist of the deal with Craig."
I followed this matter closely and have no recollection of Elian's father entering the USA.
While the people identified in this article are sewage, they are small fish compared to the "Law Enforcement" who kidnapped Elian from his relatives' home and force him back to Cuba. Thank them if you wish. Or curse them for what they've done to this country. It's your choice. For now, anyway.
Our next-door neighbors turned their flag upside-down, and they NEVER do anything like that.
Absolutely right! Holder's connections to legal representation of the terrorists will never be told in the MSM, I am sure. This has to be a major conflict of interest.
Is the whole Katie Couric story radioactive to this site? The biggest 'journalism' story of the day and it wasn't even covered.
Look at the picture again. If that is what a federal agent will do when ordered yes I am. They will also put a bullet through a womans head holding her baby with no second thought Ruby Ridge after framing her husband who won millions in a law suit against them. No I call what they do disgusting.
— If they were alive in the time of the founders they would have been imprisoned as traitors.—
You can add 75% of kong-ress and the federal bureaucracy to that.
Plus burned up adults and kids at Waco under the direction of Wesley Clark.
The Methodist Church's involvement makes me the most ill. My husband's hard earned "offerings" helped Castro, Dan Rather, Clinton, Holder and Greg Craig perpetrate this CRIME.
So glad we nailed Dan Rather, the pinko, pimping forged documents to get his party in power. Too bad we let Obama and his Marxist mob into power. We are going to pay for a long time for this mistake.
Gosh, I thought all that Eric did was hold Janet's purse while she shopped for foundation garments.
So now you're comparing our Federal agents to nazis? Just disgusting.
And all of those American's who implemented this plan still get to breathe freedom. What a country. Now rumor is Hillery is making ready for a Presidential run and she may just pull it off.
Where are the overzealous, machine gun toting Federal cops when we need them and those kind of tactics on our southern border??
If they'd have been caught the Founders would have been imprisoned as traitors. Being a traitor against a government that abuses its power is not necessarily a bad thing.
There is so much we may not know yet. Were there other family members in Cuba being held "hostage" until the boy and his father returned? If Juan Gonzalez did indeed wish for his son to remain in the US, but was forced by the Cuban government to bring him back, I don't think he will let the boy forget for a minute. But what will Elian remember…his taste of freedom, or his betrayal by the US government as troopers stormed the house and pointed weapons at him and his relatives?
Leave it to the "Liberal Loonies" to make the worst possible decisions in regard to anything concerning the country that they hate "America". The ungrateful celebrities should be made to move to Cuba so they could worship daily at the feet of their Heros. Maybe they could all chip in and erect a shrine for "Che" their "Saint".
American Christian Infidel

Yo Landa,
I had the same problem. I come from a long line of Methodist preachers who are spinning at what the United Methodist Church has become. Solution? Find a good Independent Methodist Church or either stop putting anything in the offering. I refuse to give to the UMC anymore.
I've known my wife for over twenty years. In that time, I have never, ever seen her get as angry and emotional as when they announced the federally-sponsored kidnapping. Such a sorry story that didn't end well for anyone.
Rather will have to report to his Maker. Good luck with that.
In the 40's last century, before the Chinese Communist Party took over mainland, lot of locals in northern Shandong province rowed across the strait with small boat, no engine power to Taiwan. Years later, people tried to run to the other side of the Berlin Wall, they got shot. Up to today, the North Korean after all the risks, finally escaped, finally get into China, the mothers, the husbands tried to stop the Chinese security guys, tried to life up their daughters and wives into the Korean Embassy, they were caught right in front of the embassy gate, they were pulled back from the gate and they were sent back to North Korea by Chinese Government.
To send this boy back to Cuba was something I could not understand until now. It makes me sadder. America is the hope to so many people suffering in the dark. Remember Walesa said in Chicago days ago? We saw changes, but sadly change with no hope.
and Janet Reno. Remember… the reason they had the standoff was to protect the children.
(because the "so called" weapons charges were exposed as corrupt)
So they burned all the children and then buldozed the the crime scene. Pathetic.
Actually, the murder at Ruby Ridge happened under GHW Bush, not Bill Clinton.
Oh please. Our immigration policies have us sending poor kids back to shitholes on a daily basis, they're just not Communist islands. But our immigration policies are from moral, equitable or reflective of our values and standards. Look at it this way, the law-abiding hard-working folks we want coming don't want to jump through hoops or jump fences so we get stuck with the people who have no problem breaking laws to get here.
Who cares?
Why are you digging up 9 year old dirt on CBS when FOX has control of all the news we see?
Why don't you do a story about how FOX keeps things out of the news?
What about how FOX only covers stories that fit their agenda?
How about that?
I am so glad that finally the true story is getting out. I knew the truth because my aunt knew this family from Cuba and visited them regularly here in Miami, they were friends. She told me everything long ago. Back then when Elian was taken out of his families home in such a brutal way, it was a shock to me I never thought that something like that could happen in this country. That was then, now I see it was just a preview of worse things to come. I for one am not standing on the side lines while these leftist, progressive, gestapo President and company try and destroy our country, I am a leader of the Miami 912 Project and I would rather die on my feet then live on my knees. I hope that more and more people take a stand to defend the Constitution and all that it implies.
Nancy Meinhardt
Miami 912 Project
Stand up to tyranny, even if it's telling a TSA agent to stop yelling at you. Godammit, people, if you don't KNOW your RIGHTS, you don't have any. WTFU!!!
Nice slant…
His father was his legal guardian. his father flew to America and negotiated with US officials personally. His intentions were not conferred to the US Government via CBS. Elian's mother died, he was staying with an Aunt, and the father made it clear he wanted his son back. Where was he taken after being picked up by Janet Reno? To the Military Base where his father was, then they flew back together.
Shame on the agents who followed bad orders.
who cares – What, is your remote broken? You can't switch to ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, etc?
Sure, they just peddle leftist suckage, and not even their moms watch, but they are there for the brainless to watch.
You'd be right at home.
Whatever happened to Elian's cousin in Miami who wanted to be his surrogate mother – as I recall she was hot but crazy?
The right thing would have been to let Elian's father stay in America once he got here. But, he wasn't given that choice.
Millions of illegal aliens over the 8 years of Clinton and THIS is the ONE kid they decided to send back.
There is no corner of hell hot enough for ANYONE who acted to send Elian back to Cuba. And I include any of those jack botted thugs who "were just carrying out orders."
I suggest Big Journalism institute an annual award show, where the most ergregious examples of media dishonesty are selected from the years best. Let your readers vote for their picks.
Call them the "Rather Awards" and the statues…"the Dannies".
No real surprises here. We always knew that Dan Rather and his cronies were up to their armpits with the likes of Castro. I wonder how Elian is doing now? He has to be 16 or 17 years old or so.
We should have made it easier for his father to defect with the rest of their family. I'll always remember poor little Elian who was found floating in the ocean.
Rather got as far as he did because that is what CBS (and probably the other networks) expected from him and other similar reporters.
As I recall he made his first big jump in news reporting when he was a pup in Texas hanging onto to lightpoles/streetsigns while out covering Texas hurricanes. I'm sure he was back into a dry saloon as soon as the red light of camera went off.
But the murder at Waco happened under Clinton. And Lon Horiuchi figured prominently in both. Surely "Law Enforcement" at its finest.
The Waco "cult" was not charged with child molestation. It was a BATF issue. Miraculously, the front door, which could have shown significant info on the initial shooting, disappeared. Must have been the Branch Davidians who escaped and took it with them. Yeah, that's the ticket! Couldn't be that "Law Enforcement" found it showed something inconvenient and it disappeared from THEIR possession. In addition, the drugs and machine guns that were alleged as a reason to bring in the military were never there. But "Law Enforcement" didn't care. It was just an Inconvenient Truth. Thank them if you wish. Or curse them for what they've done to this country. It's your choice. For now, anyway.
rather is proud of his rathergate and his other inhuman actions and stories
And yet when they were ordered by the court to give him back to his father, they refused (I'm sorry, the difference between that and kidnapping is what again?). They're lucky I wasn't President because I'd thrown every one of their asses in jail. There's nothing I hate more than people who justify kidnapping a child because they think they know better than his/her parents. It's evil personified.
What murder? Why do you insist on defending a child molester? WTF???
[...] Rest the entire devastating article, right here. [...]
Thanks for keeping the memory of the Elian affair alive in the minds of Americans.
The vast majority of Americans, both then and now, agree that Elian needed to be returned to his father.
Keeping this story in the minds of Americans just reminds us of how whacked out the old school Miami exile community really is.
Ever since JFK, US presidents have been promising the Florida voting block of corrupt exiles that the Cuban government will be overturned. And you can give them an E for Effort:
They initiated, promoted or tolerated all of the following: Bay of Pigs invasion, attempts on Castro’s life, sabotage, brutal economic blockade, downing of an airliner, innumerable raids by exiles, bombings in Havana, guerrillas in Escambray mountains, misinformation campaigns and much more.
Then Cuba is accused of being too tough on dissidents, who receive instruction and money from the enemy? How do you think the US would react in reverse? Well we already know – they inturned ALL Japanese during WWII.
Since when did this clown become a reliable source for anything? I wouldn’t trust him to tell me the weather.
Gusanos like Fontova get whiny when you remind them that they tucked in the wieners and fled from a few hundred bearded guys with guns to the comfort of American Plantation Capitali$m.
Maybe if Fontova’s Daddy had half the ‘Cajones’ that Che had, he would have tried to start his own revolution and topple Fidel. Hell Fidel at one time was down to 12 men and came out victorious.
