Next we’ll hear that James O’Keefe attended a dinner party honoring Apartheid South Africa’s former president, P. W. Botha. If so, and the accusation verified, O’Keefe’s “insensitivity” to human (and civil) rights would barely register against that of Max Blumenthal’s boss at The Daily Beast, Tina Brown.
I’ll report. Y’all decide:
“N**ger!” taunted my jailers between tortures,” reported the world’s longest suffering black political prisoner about his suffering. “We pulled you down from the trees and cut off your tail!” laughed my torturers. For months I was naked in a 6 x 4 foot cell. That’s four feet high, so you couldn’t stand. But I felt a great freedom inside myself. I refused to commit spiritual suicide.
I do not refer to Nelson Mandela. No, the prisoner was a black Cuban named Eusebio Peñalver, whose incarceration and torture at the hands of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara’s Stalinist regime stretched to 29 years, surpassing Nelson Mandela’s record in time behind bars and probably doubling the horrors suffered by Mandela during this period.

“The Negro is indolent and spends his money on frivolities and booze, whereas the European is forward-looking, organized and intelligent,” wrote Ernesto “Che” Guevara in his diaries. When during a 1959 press conference a Cuban black asked Guevara, “what his Revolution would do for blacks?” Che sneered: “we’ll do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the Cuban revolution. By which I mean: nothing!”
Che was much too modest. “Nothing” is not at all an accurate description of the Castro/Che treatment of Cuba’s blacks. First, they forcibly overthrew a Cuban government where Cuban blacks served as President of the Senate, Miister of Agriculture, Chief of Army, and Head of State (Fulgencio Batista, a grandson of slaves who was born in a palm-roofed shack). Not that you’ll learn any of this from the liberals’ exclusive educational source on pre-Castro Cuba: the Godfather II movie.
Today the prison population in Stalinist/Apartheid Cuba is 90% black while only 9% of the ruling Stalinist party is black. Elsewhere liberals denounce such a thing as “racist apartheid.”
But have you ever heard of Eusebio Peñalver? He became a U.S. citizen and lived in Miami for almost 20 years and would have been a cinch for the media to track down. Ever see a CNN interview with him? Ever see him on 60 Minutes? Ever read about him in the New York Times? The Washington Post? The Boston Globe? Ever hear the NAACP or the Congressional Black Caucus mention him?

This being Black History Month should we expect a special on him on NPR and the History Channel? Why do I bother asking? He was a victim of the Left’s premier pin-up boys…nuff said.
Sr Peñalver served several months of this almost thirty-year sentence in a “punishment cell” barely big enough to stand in, where he languished naked and in complete darkness.
“Castro’s apologists,” he said in an interview with this writer, “those who excuse or downplay his crimes — these people be they ignorant, stupid, mendacious whatever–they are accomplices in the bloody tyrant’s crimes, accomplices in the most brutal and murderous regime in the hemisphere.”
“The Toast of Manhattan!” crowed Time magazine about Fidel Castro’s reception by Manhattan’s Beautiful People on his visit to address the U.N. General assembly in 1996, upon the U.N.’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
“The Hottest Ticket in Manhattan!” read a Newsweek story that week, referring to the social swirl that engulfed Castro. After Fidel’s whooping, hollering, foot-stomping ovation in the General Assembly, he was fêted by New York’s best and brightest, hobnobbing with dozens of Manhattan’s glitterati, pundits and power brokers.
First, there was dinner at the Council on Foreign Relations. After holding court there for a rapt David Rockefeller, along with Robert McNamara, Dwayne Andreas and Random House’s Harold Evans, Castro flashed over to Mort Zuckerman’s Fifth Avenue pad, where a throng of Beltway glitterati, including a breathless Mike Wallace, Peter Jennings, Bernard Shaw, Barbara Walters and Tina Brown, all jostled for a brief tryst, cooing and gurgling to Castro’s every comment.
All clamored for autographs and photo ops. Diane Sawyer was so overcome in the mass killer’s presence that she rushed up, broke into that toothy smile of hers, wrapped her arms around Castro and smooched him warmly on the cheek.
“You people are the cream of the crop!” beamed the mass-murderer to the smiling throng that surrounded him.
“Hear, hear!” chirped the delighted guests while tinkling their wine glasses in appreciation and glee.

More perspective: according to Anti-Apartheid activists a grand total of 3,000 political prisoners passed through South Africa’s Robben Island prison in roughly 30 years under the Apartheid regime. Usually about a thousand were held. These were out of a South African population of 40 million.
According to the Human Rights group, Freedom House, a grand total of 500,000 political prisoners have passed through Castro’s various prisons and forced labor camps. At one time in 1961, some 300,000 Cubans were jailed for political offenses. This is out of a Cuban population in 1960 of 6.4 million.
A calculator will easily reveal the grotesque disparity between “The Toast of Manhattan’s!” repressions compared to Apartheid repression. The regime headed by the Stalinist dictator whom Tina Brown toasted was roughly twenty times as repressive as the one universally condemned by Manhattan’s enlightened opinion.
More recently “The Toast of Manhattan!”sentenced other blacks (Dr. Elias Biscet, Jorge Antunez) to 20-year sentences essentially for quoting Martin Luther King in a public square. I will quote Antunez’ sister from a samizdat smuggled out of Cuba last year.
“The Cuban government tries to fool the world with siren songs depicting racial equality in our country. But it is all a farce, as I and my family can attest, having suffered from the systematic racism directed at us by Castro’s regime. My brother suffers the scourge of racial hatred every day. The beatings are always accompanied by racial epithets. They set dogs on him. They deny him medical attention. They kept him from attending his mother’s funeral. The only thing I have to thank Castro for,” she quoted her brother, “is for restoring the yoke of slavery that my ancestors lived under.”
Toast that, Tina.

I have never been able to understand the left's facination with Castro or Che. Even when I was little I understood they were evil and I didn't even know the atrocities they committed. I understood they were communist and that was enough. I learned about communism in about 8th or 9th grade. I remember, vividly, thinking "wow what a great idea this is. everyone would be on equal footing." My very next thought was "Wait a minute. This would never work. Only some people would work for the benefit of everyone else. All this does is promote laziness and nothing at all would be accomplished." Why is it that a 13 year old can figure this out but not the Ivy League elite. Aren't they supposed to be the best and the brightest?
Now that I understand the horrors these regimes have put these people through I can only wonder where these elites have their heads shoved? How can they justify these tortures (real torture I might add, not simply sleep deprivation)? Or, are they so incredibly stupid that they honestly don't know about them?
I almost regret lowering myself to level of most un-informed lefties, but somehow I will bring myself to say that it does not surprise me that there are no Liberal comments on this article. What can you say when faced with the obvious attrocities performed by the Castro regime. How can you defend Castro or his cronies. To honestly say it is for the betterment of ALL Cubans that Castro came to power is to also say that violent, racist oppression is OK as long as it's for the Liberal cause. Castro has been an embarrassment to any and all who supported him.
I heard that imbecile Tina Brown yammering this morning on NPR.
Apparently NPR feels she is still relevant, even as she descends the publishing media ladder to producing a blog.
The apologists of totalinarianism have much to answer for.
Liberals are confused by facts because they tend to live their lives without grasping any.
It will be a happy day when Fidel Castro dies. He is one of the most vile, evil humans ever to live. People who where T-shirts with Che's face on the front should be ashamed. He was a coward and died like a coward.
Thank you, Mr. Fontova. I knew none of this and, considering it is relevant modern history which needs to be learned and taught (not to breed resentment, but to set the record straight) I will never forget.
"THEY ARE ACCOMPLICES" !! Let it be known throughout the land….
Aw, there you go again, ruining a perfectly good tee shirt with (gasp) FACTS!
I'm astounded that I've never heard of Sr Peñalver. I'm fairly well informed – why has this man's story not been told? Thank goodness for the BIGs! I'm being educated every day by them.
What a bunch of sick freaks some Americans are.
Shhh…Emberto, you realize that you’re disturbing the delusional narrative of the left. You must always remember Che is cool, Che is cool…
They know about them. The ends justify the means for them.
I learned about communism when I started school. We used to have drills so we'd know what to do in the event of a nuclear blast. (yeah, right) And while the MSM was biased they, at least, showed how the Soviets still used 1920s style switch-boards while we were venturing into wireless in the '70s. They also once showed and wrote about conditions from the Soviet bread lines to life in the gulags. In the '80s I finally realized that the new leftist ideologue still believed in communism….they just blamed America for its failures and believed that once they had the helm they could somehow make it work [right].
Humberto, thank you. This is a story crying out to be told, yet is strangled by the leftism of our entrenched media.
As we are now witnessing with Geert Wilders, leftism goosestepping its inexorable march toward totalitarianism…is not fearful of being "found out", because the "impartial referees" have been paid off to rig the contest.
My mother…was pretty anti-American. And so I was, in some respects, raised with anti-Americanism in my blood, or in my mother's milk at least.' That's Canadian-born reporter Peter Jennings, appearing on Letterman, in September 2002.
Humberto, if you scratch a leftist's "news anchor" (where facts are thrown overboard, until they hit bottom)…they usually bleed hairspray and anti-Semitism. The latter may be closer to the skin in Europe, and especially at the BBC…but it still exists.
The "soft racism" of head patting and building of a permanent underclass always has been in existence here. But the "hard racism" of which you outline in this essay, and the conspiracy of silence and passive acquiescence of our entrenched media, is a story that demands telling.
Thank you, again, Humberto. This essay was a revelation and needs to go viral.
"All clamored for autographs and photo ops. Diane Sawyer was so overcome in the mass killer’s presence that she rushed up, broke into that toothy smile of hers, wrapped her arms around Castro and smooched him warmly on the cheek."
This just makes me want to puke. How has 30% of our country become infected with this poison? I know the answer, I am just ranting with rhetorical questions! I just wanted to scream when I read this story. I am appalled at the leftist selective blindness. How the hell can we kill this progressive (regressive) snake in our country? I believe it will be driven underground very soon, but I am concerned it won't be long before it rears its ugly head again.
Socialists, communists, progressives, modern liberals, what ever the classification, they all are statists. They believe supremacy of the state at the expense of the individual is the next evolutionary step for society.
What Castro, Che, and their fellow goons (Chavez leaps to mind), have taken their societies to that next step. They have seized the means to shape their society how ever they please. Now if they could just get their dear leader in power, they won't have to bother with the messy, unwashed masses anymore.
Their fans are so dazzled by the potential Utopia, they can't be bothered to see the death tolls, suffering, political prisons and such. Besides, once Utopia is achieved, those who suffered and died would agree it was worth THEIR sacrifice.
I wore my brand new "Commies Aren't Cool" t-shirt to my graduate seminar class last night.
One of the fresh faced Obamanistas read the shirt and then said , in a questioning voice, "Commies aren't cool?"
Like I had to explain why. So I did, including my story of being assulted by adult communists in Japan as a little kid. His answer? "The Cubans are costing us (Democrats) Florida." That was it.
Much education is needed to explain the truly evil reregimes that were the Communist Bloc countries.
You'd think a graduate student in political science would know that. Sad, really sad.
Socialist love socialism because they know it enslaves the masses and they perceive themselves as being the masters. This applies equally well to all leftist ideologies — fascism, Nazism, Communism, Socialism — they are all generally the same thing, just change the uniform.
Don't worry, they'll be here, it's early.
You should have seen them come out of the wood work last Mr. Fontova posted about Che. They couldn't bend over and grab the ankles fast enough to prove how worthy they are to beat off in the shadow of a Che poster.
I think they're just dazzled at the accent. Because they don't appear to listen to what she actually says.
Going to a socialite for political analysis makes as much sense to me as taking my dog to the pool store for a check up.
Life's much more simpler that way. Look around for some one you want to be like, and then be like them.
"Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?" — Patrick Henry.
For Americans who worship at Marx's altar, yes.

The Obamatons (Where is my free money crowd) just think it's a cool T-shirt. The Progressives embrace evolution over revolution knowing that revolution in America is not a fight they could win (Noone wins).
The Progressives only see a future of milk and honey, they forget the past because of their long list of failures.
It just boggles the mind to think that people literally risk their life or abandon their family to escape this Worker's Utopia.
Of course, as Americans we will create an even more Utopian Utopia than those silly Cubans, cause we're Americans.
Was it Santayana who said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it?”
What should be said about those who remember a fabricated past?
I suppose they may leave themselves wide open to the horrors of what actually happened when they welcome the charlatans they adore into their homes, much like inviting a charming vampire through the open window.
I think I’ll read Tom Wolfe’s “Radical Chic and Mau-Mauing the Flak-Catchers” again. It’s such a good expose about the commies’ fifth column useful idiots who walk among us.
Powerful stuff. Thank you Humberto.
Excellent article Mr. Fontova. Thank you for the grim details and how stupid the MSM and the slobbering leftists behaved. Disgusting and embarrasing. They would change their tune if they spent only ONE night in one of these Castro "ritzy" jails. I am ashamed that these people even exist in our country. November cannot come too soon for all this kind of news to be exposed to the whole world.
I wonder where syntax is. You KNOW it loves calling us racists. Oh, pleasepleaseplease syntax, come and enlighten us!

Peter Jennings is a jacka$$ who is known only because he lives and works in America. How dare he say he is anti-American! What a jerk.
OMG! That also makes my stomach turn. I didn't care for her before, but now I have lost all respect for her. Don't these feather brains know that they would be the first to be persecuted and their money stolen by their "hero." What the heck is wrong with these people? How can we ever trust what any of these idiot broadcasters have to say. Unbelievable. I am still shaking my head in disbelief.
"Not too long ago two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, "We don't know how lucky we are." And the Cuban stopped and said, "How lucky you are? I had someplace to escape to!" In that sentence he told us the entire story. If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth. " – Ronald Reagan, 1964
I've had to have nearly the same conversation you had to have (I've had to explain why socialism isn't good to a 20-something college student) Keep explaining why "commies aren't cool" whenever you can. Obviously, the schools are failing our young citizens miserably. As frustrating as it is, we're going to be forced to pick up the slack in order to preserve this last stand on Earth.
This should be required reading for all Americans, especially blacks. We see black children wearing the Che clothing, if they only knew! But America is buying a huge lie, and look who is helping, Hollywood and the Left, amazing, and they call us racist!
Here is a website that will open you eyes on who's who in the progressive world. Look at the Hollywood types and you will have a hard time watching a movie anymore, because they are the ones who are the top paid in their industry. It will turn your stomach again, so get some tums and take some time to go through it.

"The Cubans are costing us (Democrats) Florida."
Which is why the Left can't wait to send in armed soldiers to rip a Cuban boy from his family's arms and send him back to Fidel's "paradise". Elian might've grown up to be a Republican. Now, had Elian been Mexican, they would've given him a Mexican flag and had him leading a parade in Los Angeles.
Of course, the Left will also cry "hypocrit!" for me pointing that out. But I've long since tired of trying to explain to them the difference between someone giving their life to give their son freedom, and one who will remain a Mexican citizen with loyalties only to Mexico, but will vote reliably Democrat once the Left clears the way for them to vote.
I have never understood the facination that the left has with mass murderers like Fidel and Che. When Cuba is finally freed from the yoke of communist rule (however that happens), I predict that the Cuban people will dance in the street to be out from under the thumb of such a ruthless murderer.
I recommend this web site for those interested in learning more about life in Cuba: http://therealcuba.com/
while groaning…….Viva!
I am not as optimistic as you are.
I predict Cuba will not be freed from that yoke as much as it will take on one of the following forms:
The Chinese model where the Commies just put on some Armani, buy some Mercedes Benz' and remain in power but now get to profit from their evil.
The general Latin American model where there will be a "transition" to a sort-of democracy/republic. The commies will change their party name but continue to destroy the country for generations to come, e.g. Nicaragua, El Salvador, Chile, Venezuela, etc. Sadly this model is probably preferred by the career a-holes in the U.S. State Dept.
Just my .02
Fact does not make for a wonderful, chattering, clinking glass cocktail party.
….with losta artsy-types in attendance, natch!
You'd think a graduate student in political science would know that
They're the worst.
The philosophies of Saul Alinsky (currently being applied in America by Barack Obama), Hitler, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro all have in common the idea that ‘a selected group of intellectuals’ know best and better than anyone else.
This is in its praxis necessarily linked to Big Government, because these arrogant dudes with messianic complexes need to impose their views for the good of the people.
Their ideas KILL: this is because they also have in common the concept that not all individuals are equal (i.e, Obama’s opinion of unborn humans, Hitler’s views about the Jews or Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara’s stand about ‘los negros’ (the negroes).
It takes heroes like President Reagan, John Paul II or Lady Thatcher to shine the light on these vermin.
If communism has one redeeming quality its that the useful idiots are the first to go.
bravo
thanks for exposing this
thank God for people like you
keep it up
Can't we just get rid of the useful idiots and forget the Communisum part?

The truth is slowing bubbling up through the swamp of misinformation, lies, distortions and ignorance. Because of people like Mr. Fontova, hopefully the bubbles can become a gusher. How so many can willingly embrace evil is really something to behold.
"It is the Soviet Union that runs against the tide of history…. [It is] the march of freedom and democracy which will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash heap of history as it has left other tyrannies which stifle the freedom and muzzle the self-expression of the people."

40th US President, b. 1911-2004
I just got my brand new Grocho "Marxism" t-shirt in today. I was inspired to get it by your avatar, Thank you for being a U.S. Marine.
That's still something not everybody can do. Thank God for the U.S. Marines. Semper Fi.
The real racist is the obama gang and every day he is in office the more damage he is doing that will never be corrected
Just today we see his only goal is to grab everything for the blacks.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Obama and three prominent African-American leaders grappled Wednesday with how to improve economic opportunities for blacks, whose joblessness looms well above the national average and is nearly twice that of whites.
On a day of treacherous weather in Washington, Obama kept his scheduled meeting with Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP; Marc Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League; and the Rev. Al Sharpton, president of the National Action Network. Dorothy Height, chairwoman of the National Council of Negro Women, could not make it to the White House because of the pounding snow and winds that kept most of the nation's capital shut down.
The meeting did not yield immediate announcements or initiatives.
Obama and the other leaders focused on targeting aid to regions to help black people and other colored groups that have been hit disproportionately hard by the recession, Jealous told The Associated Press.
"When you try to focus on how to lift all those boats, what you come back to are places — geographic areas, urban and rural, where assistance should be located," he said. "That approach can work if Congress lets it work."
He added: "This is about place. It's not about race."
Obama, the nation's first black president, has consistently held that he can adopt employment strategies that are designed to solely help blacks. But he supports targeting help to regions most in need, which in turn, he says, would lift the African-American community.
There is a push among some black advocates for Obama's administration to target black joblessness with training programs and direct job creation. The unemployment rate for blacks was 16.5% in January, compared to 9.7% overall and 9.7% for whites.
very true. I was livid during the Elian' episode. I live a few miles from Mexico and my grandparents were originally from Mexico – that said they were anti-illegal alien and proudly America for mant decades – they ESCAPED Mexico for a reason, but were legal immigrants.
I support LEGAL immigrants that go through legal channels and embrace or country.
I don't support economic refugees using our country as a cash cow – and please liberals – spare me the "they do jobs white people won't do" pap – not true. I can operate a weedeater with the best of them.
It's OK to be a racist if your a leftist. See Robert Byrd, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, etc.
Their fascination is rooted in envy. They wish they had the power the dictators have. Look at the NYT's Friedman, gushing over the power the Chinese Communist Party has to implement whatever harebrained scheme they wish — like banning plastic bags.
Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc.
When I saw that I almost 'ralphed' myself…
You would think we wouldn't be surprised by it any more. I am still just disturbed how they can think socialism is better than liberty. This is why our educational system must restore teaching Civics, History and no more social sheit….womens studies, chicano studies, etc.
Mr. Fontova, the sad truth is the fact that your excellent piece was news to many of our younger bloggers on this site.
Through no fault of their own, our schools and universities have gradually moved away from teaching our students the truth about the violent nature of the communist revolutions in both hemispheres.
Thanks again for a great article…
Sr. Fontova,
Estamos todos agradecidos que no permites que la verdad sobre aquellos monstruos racistas permanece escondida en la sombra de su fama.
Actually the person at the pool store might know what they're talking about, unlike most lefty bloggers.
" The Progressives only see a future of milk and honey " … milk and honey only for themselves and the rest of us dressed in uniforms serving them.
Mr. Fontova,
Thank you so much for this post. The information here is enlightening. It makes me realize how indoctrinated I was all throughout my public education, where you would never hear anything like this. Now that I am an adult and also a teacher, I realize how much of what was in my textbooks was propaganda, from FDR and the New Deal to Communism, not to mention the lies told in my American history classes.
My teachers were either willfully ignorant of the truth or were themselves far left loons, and unfortunately the Progressives have been indoctrinating school children for a century in this way. There is no quick fix, but one article at a time eyes are being opened, so again I thank you.
"All clamored for autographs and photo ops. Diane Sawyer was so overcome in the mass killer’s presence that she rushed up, broke into that toothy smile of hers, wrapped her arms around Castro and smooched him warmly on the cheek."
heh, ………She thought he used to pitch for the Mets back in the 60's.
I totally agree, I have just recently been studying the Che, Castro conundrum and Mr. Fontova has added much enlightenment to the "facts" of these beasts.
Mr Fontava's recent posting Kenneth, What Is the Frequency: How CBS and Dan Rather Set Up Elian Gonzalez has lead me to Mr Fontovas web site.
Thank You Mr Fontova. I will be a fan for life.
Signed, A Racist Anglo-Whitey, Tea-Bagger
Thank you for that link. I've been going through it all night. Astounding. I feel so dumb and blind. Where are the real journalists? Oh – I finally found them – here.
Part 1: I have read all of the published diaries of Che, and nowhere does it say what you quote. But then I guess if you tell a lie enough times it will stick. As for your other anecdote about Che, I find it hard to believe that the man who risked his life in the Congo would ever say such a thing. As the late Juan Almeida said, Cuba helped all of the African liberation movements whilst the U.S. acted to destroy them. Mandela has said he would not be free if it were not for Cuba. And Cuba has granted asylum to many Black activists over the years, including Assata Shakur. The following statistics are also revealing United States 290,000 000 inhabitants Black MD'S 17,000, Cuba 11,000 000 inhabitants Black MD'S 13,500.
Part 2: That there are unresolved issues of racial justice in Cuba no one is denying. Those of primarily African descent are faced with a unique situation whereby a revolution has been initiated under the leadership of for the most part "White Radicals" who have striven to make a break with the racist past. The radical nature of the leadership should not be underestimated, indeed I am told that when Fidel first came on the scene the CIA commissioned their psychologists to analyse his words and their conclusion was that he must be "Black". Nevertheless, the fact that the leadership was primarily coming from the former "Whites" meant that there was a certain lacking of Afro-self-determination. The main reference for this analysis can be found here: http://peacecomrade.org/2009/01/13/interview-with...
"Cuba helped all of the African liberation movements whilst the U.S. acted to destroy them"
Well, that pretty much reveals where you are coming from.
We should all write to Time and Newsweek and ask them if they approve of Castro's treatment of Eusebio. Also send tweets to @barbarajwalters and ask her what she thinks of Castro's treatment of Eusebio. Don't forget Sean Penn and Michael Moore.
I really shouldn't be encouraging you, as I think its more about political payback then racism, but here's some gasoline for ya to play with:

Excellent article!
[...] Entire intransigence here. [...]
Why do moronic right-wing dicktards fear the heroic Che Guevara so much?
I’ll tell you why, because they know he lives in the hearts of millions of oppressed people across the 3rd world ….. that 50 % of humanity that lives on less than 2 $ a day and who are tired of being slaves to global imperialism and plantation capitalism.
Humberto Fontova loses credibility when he quotes Che’s diary passage about “blacks being indolent and lazy” without any historical context … what is the truth?
That quote was written by Che when he was 24 and encountered blacks for the first time in a Venezuelan slum during his Motorcycle trip around South America.
The full context of this statement is addressed by biographer Jon Lee Anderson on page 92 of “Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life.” However, months later he announced himself a transformed man and even denounced the racism he encountered while living in Miami for a month. The quote was from 1952, before he was Che.
Years later in Cuba he showed he was not racist through his actions:
- Che pushed for racially integrating the schools in Cuba, years before they were racially integrated in the Southern United States.
- Che’s friend and personal bodyguard was Harry “Pombo” Villegas, who was Afro-Cuban (black). Pombo accompanied Che to the Congo and to Bolivia, where he survived and now lives in Cuba. Of note, Pombo speaks glowingly of Guevara to this day
- When Che spoke before the U.N. in 1964 he spoke out in favor of black musician Paul Robeson, in support of slain black leader Patrice Lumumba (who he heralded as one of his heroes), against white segregation in the Southern U.S. (which still unfortunately existed), and against the white South African apartheid regime (long before it became the Western ’cause de jour’).
- Che was also heralded by Malcolm X during this trip to NY and in contact with his associates to whom he sent a letter, and later on behalf of his actions in Africa – praised by Nelson Mandela and the Black Panther’s Stokely Carmichael.
- When Guevara ventured to the Congo, he fought with a Cuban force of 100 Afro-Cubans (blacks) including those black Congolese fighters who he fought alongside against a force comprised partly of White South African mercenaries. This resembled the fight in Cuba, where Che’s units were also made up of mostly mulattos and blacks.
- Later Guevara offered assistance to fight alongside the (black) FRELIMO in Mozambique, for their independence from the Portuguese.
- Lastly, in August 1961 (9 years after his “indolent” remark), Guevara attacked the U.S. for “discrimination against blacks, and outrages by the Ku Klux Klan”, which matched his declarations in 1964 before the United Nations (12 years after his “indolent” remark), where Guevara denounced the United States policy towards their black population, stating:
“Those who kill their own children and discriminate daily against them because of the color of their skin; those who let the murderers of blacks remain free, protecting them, and furthermore punishing the black population because they demand their legitimate rights as free men — how can those who do this consider themselves guardians of freedom?”
Only to someone completely uninformed, could Che -(a man who fought in Africa with an all black army against white South African mercenaries of Apartheid)- be seen as “racist” for a diary passage he wrote as a youth 15 years earlier.
[...] the communist thug. Why does the left idolize a man who was a racist murderer? Big Journalism has a great article about the mainstream press’ indifference to a black Cuban named Eusebio Peñalver who [...]
Humberto writes: When during a 1959 press conference a Cuban black asked Guevara, “what his Revolution would do for blacks?” Che sneered: “we’ll do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the Cuban revolution. By which I mean: nothing!”
Is there an independent source for this? No. The only place this appears is in one of Humberto's own books, in which he gives no complete source reference.
I can't believe Che wouldn't declare his racism in his diaries!
Guevara did write those (deservedly infamous) comments about blacks in his diaries. You will find the quote on page 148 in the October 1996 Verso edition of the Motorcycle Diaries. The quote is cited on page 92 of the 1997 edition of Jon Lee Anderson’s otherwise worthless Che Guevara: a revolutionary life. You will even find the quote cited in Spain Rodriguez’s utterly silly Che: A Graphic Biography, which you should find easy to read, since it’s in comic book format.
p.s. Jennings is dead!
Humberto would make Goebbels blush.
I can't believe teabagging rednecks believe this crap.
… that laughable website is the best one that CIA boot-licking money can buy

… do you always fall so easily for obvious propaganda?
How much is Soros paying you? You don't know shite!
WRONG. Here's the formula:
The "3 brain theory" suggests that our brains are like a 3-layer onion: (1) oldest is "reptilian" brain, governing heartbeat, breathing, and hate/fear (fight/flight response), (2) next oldest is "mammalian" brain, governing other emotions and social cohesion, and (3) most recent is cortex, responsible for higher order thinking – reasoning, etc. The idea is that any of these 3 can "decide" for a human, and the other 2 try to support.
Republicans, and Tea Partiers like Fontova address the reptilian brain in their "messaging". It's a good strategy because everyone has a reptilian brain, some people are dominated by it, and most people don't understand about the 3 part brain, and are unaware of how easily they can be manipulated by hate and fear.
Pres. Obama, in particular, tries to engage the cortex. He effectively addresses only those with a functioning cortex, who mastered their reptilian brains. It's a smaller set.
That's the built-in advantage the right-wing has. Good for them, but bad for humanity.
Mr. Fontova
The recent youg bloggers on this thread merely prove my point. They were not taught that Che/ Castro killed many thoudands, Stalin killed 40 million, and Mau at least 40 to 50 million…
They were simply not taught the truth in out American schiools and Universities.
Not to mention the true history of the Founding Fathers, the American Revolution and the Constitution of this great nation.
The facts are out there don't believe Mr. Fontova, hell why should you believe me?
I suggest you use the still free internet and find out for yourselves, before we suffer the same fate and China, and Venezuela.
Perter clearly you are an intelligent young man if I may be so bold I strongly suggest you take a little time on the internet to what really happened in the 1917 Bolshevik revolution and the 1949 Chinese communist revolution…
Go home to moma little Troll
Humberto writes: When during a 1959 press conference a Cuban black asked Guevara, “what his Revolution would do for blacks?” Che sneered: “we’ll do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the Cuban revolution. By which I mean: nothing!”
I'll ask again, is there an independent source for this? The only place this appears is in one of Humberto's own books, in which he gives no complete source reference. Humberto always has played fast and loose with his so-called 'facts'.
Hi thanks for the recommendations. I've taken your advice and I already see your point – very enlightening, but at this point not surprising.
The first time I saw a Che t shirt in person I was nauseated. I made sure to tell my teenage son (who was traveling with me at the airport) that Che was a Communist assassin so he knew the history. My Wife sent me some clothes from Wal Mart and emblazoned on a hoodie were communist stars and hammer and sickles along with communist sayings, I told my Wife I would never wear such a garment, ever. It's still sitting in the box it was sent in. Thanks for this story, should be good to use in a political discussion.
Better yet, maybe he/she should move to the paradise over in Cuba to experience it for themselves. If not there, North Korea beckons.
Are you here to show us what a useful idiot looks like?
Are you serious? This is a well-known anecdote.
The first things young people are taught about Communism are "Red Scare" and "McCarthyism." That is, it's a bogeyman made up by fear-mongering conservatives; communism is actually a reasonable alternative to capitalism.
Thanks I'm converted where do I get my Che shirt…
A mirror will do…
An interesting response, kind of reminds me of one of those awkward moments at a party when a smarty pants kind of guy makes a comment that has nothing to do with the conversation that is going on. There are small smiles, a few whispers that maybe the guy has had too much to drink, a few sideways glances, and then the conversation resumes and the drunk boor moves on.
I did not reference Obama and I am not sure that the article mentioned Obama. How he appeared in a response to my post about communist tyrants is perhaps a Freudian slip in a way on your part. Further, it is interesting that you, who has a tag "Obama4Life" is writing about how easy some people can be led. Take your reptilian brain and fall in behind "The One", for he is so gosh-darn smart, just like you.
I would assume then that George read the diaries while wearing a set of rose colored glasses. This is not unusual as plenty of people to this day are perfectly willing to excuse the terror, murders and other atrocities committed by Mao, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Castro, etc etc. How is it that seemingly sensible people will go to such lengths to not see the truth?
You will be ignored, inconvientent facts are not to be tolerated.

Fontova is not only an "idiot" but a propagandist
Fidel, is that you? If so, please die a horrible death, choking on your spittle.
