The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu’s office. Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines. Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false.
As an investigative journalist, my goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions, as I did last year when our investigations revealed the massive corruption and fraud perpetrated by ACORN. For decades, investigative journalists have used a variety of tactics to try to dig out and reveal the truth.
I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu’s constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn’t want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu’s explanation was that, “Our lines have been jammed for weeks.” I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for “weeks” because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu’s district office – the people’s office – to ask the staff if their phones were working.
On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building. The sole intent of our investigation was to determine whether or not Senator Landrieu was purposely trying to avoid constituents who were calling to register their views to her as their Senator. We video taped the entire visit, the government has those tapes, and I’m eager for them to be released because they refute the false claims being repeated by much of the mainstream media.
It has been amazing to witness the journalistic malpractice committed by many of the organizations covering this story. MSNBC falsely claimed that I violated a non-existent “gag order.” The Associated Press incorrectly reported that I “broke in” to an office which is open to the public. The Washington Post has now had to print corrections in two stories on me. And these are just a few examples of inaccurate and false reporting. The public will judge whether reporters who can’t get their facts straight have the credibility to question my integrity as a journalist.

Hey, we all make mistakes in calculating our next move or what we say sometimes but the lesson learned here is next time, when you walk into a den of snakes, take extraordinary precautions for your own safety and for the integrity of your work.

I for one, knew when this story first came out that it was bogus. The leftist media has been engaged in this kind of personal destruction for so long that it is now obvious when it occurs. It is like a magician who keeps on doing the same trick once everyone knows how it is done. Once you know that the trick goes like this, the magician holds a fake thumb tip made out of plastic in his left hand hand, hidden from view by the fingers of his left hand, and then uses his right hand fingers to stuff the the silk hankie into that prop, but the audience doesn't know of or see the prop so they think he is just stuffing it into his hand making it smaller and smaller. His last move is to use the thumb of his other hand to pretend to pack it even more tightly into his "hand" , but in reality is at that moment placing the prop with the hankie inside on top of the thumb of his right hand. The magician then opens both hands and it appears that the hankie has vanished, unless you are aware of how it is done and look at and notice the thumb on his right hand. I don't think James was involved in "illegal acts", contrary to preliminary reports both in the MSM–and on "right" blogs. There was a tremendous amount of conclusion jumping in both areas. Instead of having facts to write the story, the story was written anyway–damn the facts.

Although I would think that a judge would dismiss charges if the government can't preserve exculpatory evidence.
But considering that Holder is in charge of DoJ (and thus, the FBI), I would be very uncomfortable with this whole situation.

Apparently someone saw me writing down info, and he threw me under the bus and I lost my job. He also wanted me to write a letter to the company and have him reveiw for him to sign and forward to them. I did, then he fired me. He didn't like my letter , which threw him under the bus. So I wrote another letter to the company just to make sure they got my side of the story. I was only 23 at the time and learned a big lesson. Otherwise I would be calling you a complete idiot..but I will say for your age and experience, you should know better and think out your plan much better. Next time dont' get caught! What's scary about this is that Turley is a LAW PROFESSOR at G. Washington University. I think we can agree to disagree as to what constitutes a journalist. I do agree that O'Reilly, Olbermann and Matthews are serving as Commentators vs Reporters. Beck, Malkin and Coulter are another category completely; muckrackers and news fabricators. Perhaps James fits into this category. However, Beck, Malkin and Coulter do not break the law as James did. At least they have not been charged (that I know of) to date, as James has.
Regarding the Shuster interview with Breitbart, I saw the interview. Breitbart only has himself to blame. He started a screaming match right from the beginning of the interview. Re: his tweets, while not professional, even you are saying we are in a new era of journalism, which includes Tweets, Facebook, and youtubes. Shuster referenced "wire-tap" which was reported by many news organizations intially. When I look at the actual charges in the warrant, they ARE FELONIES. James BROKE THE LAW. He cannot deny that. He even admitted to it.
Regarding ACORN, sure he and the prostitute convinced a couple of employees to be sympathetic to their act. However, I would like to see the entire videos instead of the selectively released footage James released. What does he have to hide? What he released was exploitive and sensational, just for his 15 minutes. Addditionally, from what I read, he did not dress as a pimp, only in his promo youtubes. Additionally, why are you so quick to convict those ACORN employees? They were not charged. They did suffer penalty for being sympathetic to the prostitute. They lost their jobs. However, they were not charged for any crimes. Why didn't James release the entire footage to prosecutors? What does he have to hide?

Dee_321- with all due respect, journalism has changed tremendously over the past ten years. Mr. O'Keefe certainly can be considered a journalist. If you think about how all networks now make celebrities out of regular reporters (Anderson Cooper, et al) or commentators pass as journalists and cover national elections (O'Reilly, Olbermann, Matthews)- the standards for journalists are nearly non-existent now.
Another case in point: David Shuster- his bait and switch to get Breitbart to debate him on air, plus his "tweets" a) were like something out of a bad B movie and b) should have resulted in him losing his job. When I worked as an investigative reporter, those tactics would have certainly gotten any reporter fired- if not sued.
As far as undercover investigations- the fact that O'Keefe was able to get into an ACORN facility dressed like he was (completely over the top!) and get that stuff on tape was amazing. As someone who has done concealed camera work, his brazen approach is great! I'm interested to see what the actual evidence is in this Landreau case. These guys are charged, not convicted. Be careful… your information can be traced by good private investigators.

This issue is James O'Keefe's problem. He is the one who broke the law and he knows it. Let's let Justice run its course and let's leave my and your personality out of it.

James also BROKE the LAW and has been charged. They entered a Federal Building under false pretenses, wearing costumes: hardhats, bright vests, etc.
O'Keefe himself said he wanted to disrupt the phone service to see what the staff would do.
Disrupt – put the phones out of service.
He thought this was a prank. In reality, this is a Federal Crime!
They asked and were taken to the Federal Telephone Closet. Once in this closet, you don't need special equipment to "put the phones out of service." Have you ever been in a Telephone Closet? They have very senstive equipment and computers in the room. All it would take is access to it: a glass of water or your fingers to push/pull the equipment out of service.
