The mainstream media’s glee in reporting that public sector unions have likely succeeded in drumming up enough signatures to force Wisconsin governor Scott Walker to face a recall election betrays their thinly-veiled sympathies for the effort.
The day began with a National Public Radio report that told listeners of the “festive” mood among organizers of the petition drive, contrasting enthusiastic man-on-the-street opposition to Walker with the institutional voice of the embattled state GOP.
The NPR story was careful to note that “the governor continues to take advantage of a state law that allows recall targets to raise unlimited amounts of money during a recall period.”
Scott Bauer–whose November photograph (above) of a smiling Democrat donor accompanied NPR’s story on its website–followed the same line at the Associated Press, reporting that Walker was out of the state raising money to defeat Democrats’ effort to unseat him. But Bauer added a sinister–and false–insinuation that Walker was raking in federal bailout money:
Walker has been raising money at a furious clip. He was hosting a $2,500 per-person fundraiser in New York City along with Maurice “Hank” Greenberg, the founder and former CEO of American International Group. AIG was one of the world’s largest insurance companies that nearly collapsed in the fall of 2008 at the height of the financial crisis and received about $180 billion in bailout aid from the government.
Hank Greenberg left AIG in 2005–three years before the bailouts–under pressure from New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer threatened, but never filed, fraud charges against AIG. In 2009, the Securities and Exchange Commission was forced to settle related claims against Greenberg, prompting the Wall Street Journal to observe: “the federal government has decided that it cannot even make a civil case for fraud against Mr. Greenberg, never mind a criminal one.” It was after Greenberg’s departure that AIG bet big on insurance policies on subprime mortgage-backed securities.
Greenberg is not to blame for the AIG bailout, nor did he benefit from it directly. Yet Bauer suggested that some of that $180 billion from federal taxpayers is finding its way to Walker’s campaign, via Greenberg and by virtue of his tenure as AIG’s CEO.
Neither NPR nor the AP reminds voters of the millions that unions are spending in the recall effort–up to $70 to $80 million, according to an NPR interview with Walker in November. It’s union “volunteers” versus Walker’s bailed-out billionaires.
Journalists will always cheer a good fight. But NPR, the AP and other mainstream media outlets are going much further, cheerleading for the campaign to recall Scott Walker and to reverse the outcome of a recent democratic election that has been twice affirmed since Walker took office.

no love of country only love of power!
i'm sick of this crap, are you?
Scot Walker, a man for all conservative reasons, doing everything he promised in his campaign.
He needs to be supported by Patriots, demagogues ignored and marginalized … .
Which is just another reason I never, ever contribute to the NPR/PBS money machine, despite my love of Celtic Woman.
Defund NPR NOW and completely. I do not want my tax dollars to campaign against my conservative principles.
Scott Walker will beat this recall because despite what the democrats say, most people will do what is right when the time comes. Democrat. Republican or Independant most can see they are better off with him as governor.
and you think THIS is ugly?
Just wait. They have intent to use the kitchen sink on Walker's recall effort; every dirty trick ever invented will be used.
The lies are just beginning. Walker, a pro (thank goodness) is getting his ducks in a row as well. And he'll need EVERY penny he raises, too. Wisconsin, the birthplace of the American progressive movement, will stop at NOTHING in this effort.
This includes violence. Expect that as well. All in vain, though, for Governor Walker will survive this onslaught; voters are loathe to take a sitting governor out of office over policy reasons. After all, he isn't DEMOCRAT Rod Blagojevich…
The Unions and their Crony Communist friends, are trying to rape the People and the Government of Wisconsin out of greed and avarice for power.
And stimulus money did not enrich the union's coffers nor did the money find it's way to Wisconsin.Nawww
No government tax dollars for NPR, NONE.
You are dead on! I think Walker will survive BUT will be falsely blamed for the violence. I hope Gov. Walker can prevail, but the lefties in this country don't follow rules.
Scott needs our money and our prayers.
They can boast a million signatures all they want, they have no independent stand-alone verification process to corroborate them. There's no requirement to be a registered voter and they've set that standard for the state long ago. Who's actually gonna go through the verification of these signatures? There's technically nothing illegal about multiple votes, by their own book, unless it can be proved that there exists a specific attempt to commit fraud. Wisconsin is horribly corrupt and even though the state's GOA says only the first vote would be counted and they have the software in place to detect multiple votes, they admit it won't catch them all or even most.
Rush Limbaugh had an interview with Scott Walker today. Some interesting stats in recall signatures. There were several Mickey Mouse and Donald Ducks amongst them, Adolf Hitler found its way there too. These signatures were judged to be legit. One interviewee on a local radio or TV station freely admitted signing petition about 80 times You do not have to be register voter to sign recall petition and the residency requirement is only 28 days. The state was flooded by union operatives paid for by big union money from DC headquarters. Wecome to the brave new world America.
I live in California and know what happens when the Democrats and labor unions get a death grip on the government. Tomorrow morning I will be making a contribution to Gov. Scott Walker. I suggest everyone else who cares about the future of America do the same.
psssst joel… i heard the word neoconservative on the tv. I was hoping you could do a media matters style race baiting hit piece about how that is a double secret slander against the Jewish people.
Thank You.
You get my vote for the red star.

Wall Street Journal editorial board director Stephen Moore explains why Rep. Ron Paul’s ideas on economics are correct and must be accepted in the mainstream GOP platform.
Check is in the mail. After seeing my home state of California go down the tubes from Decomcratic Legislature and kicking the can we as conservative must stand behind candidates that are willing to risk it all for what is right and one day we will be rewarded with one who if truly conservative and take the White House
Sadly you actually do (assuming you pay taxes). It is just confiscated instead of being given freely. I agree the Celtic Women is great, but without NPR I bet they could find an outlet.
Any of these stories mention how much money was saved just on health insurance that can now be used to educate "the children", or be given back to taxpayers, instead of being stolen by the union leadership?

Doin' it for The United States of America. It's really an easy process too.
P.S. I don't live within 1000 miles of Pecker Checker, err, Packer Backer Land.
P.P.S. SKOAL Vikings.
Scott Walker is a hero. His crime: The State of Wisconsin stopped auto payment of union dues from 300,000 public union workers' paychecks! For this he has become public enemy number one of Democrats (beneficiaries of dues).
Apparently the Democrats have picked Wisconsin as ground zero for their fight. Therefore, we all need to go to Walker's site and donate to his lonely cause, paid for by patriots alone against the millions spent by unions. Thanks.
Walker is raising money? How dare he, he should be like dweeb-in-chief, you don't see the golden child running aroud, hosting hideously expensive dinners for lib hacks in Chicago, do you? Oh, wait a minute…
The media has a liberal bias? Surprise, surprise.
they will TRY to blame everything on Walker- but with cellphone cameras everywhere the thugs will be instantly outed. Nonplussed, they will say he is causing an 'atmosphere' where violence can occur. This, too, will not work.
People know better.
The ugliness will betray them. And, yes, he needs to be well funded throughout…
That's the last straw. No more federal tax dollars for Breitbart.
I wonder if crowd sourcing might help, Duz? The registered voter list might help a bit but, maybe somebody with access to police and property tax files might be of some help?
You here Subvert? You just might get your Elvis signature yet!
You're getting too close to the glue again, Helen! Back away before you lose more brain cells!
Oops, too late.
So how much is the Paul campaign paying you?
Indie – do you think FORCED unionism is American?
Do you think FORCED union dues is right??
You see, this is nothing but a power grab by the unions to FORCE more people to be members and to further enrich their coffers!!
When I think of NPR, I think of National Pubic Radio.
Why are most of the females on NPR brit-twits with ugly nasal accents who spit out their "Ts" like there is no Tomorrow.
A simple expression such as "let it" becomes "leh Tit" and makes me laugh.
Can't NPR find any America women who hate God and Country? Why do they have to resort to the brit twits?
Perhaps the brit twits work for free?
We need to eliminate National Pubic Radio from America. Send them all back to britsville where they belong.
Jesus loves you, ma'am. Yes He really does.
BTW, your 666 is showing….
Would sell it right away on ebay and donate money to good conservative causes. I have said it before and will say it again, voter fraud does NOT happen at the voting booth, it happens BEFORE and AFTER a vote is cast. In military terms we have a pincer situation here; AG covers the "before" part, Soros' SoS project covers the "after". In my modest opinion, Scott Walker recall is one of many preludes to November 2012 general election. CNN and other propaganda outfits trumpet 1M signatures in Wisconsin as a big victory for "the will of people".
Oh, I agree with you completely, Temeri!
SubVert Progess is another poster who wanted a copy of Elvis' signature (as do you, I see;-) http://biggovernment.com/bhealy/2012/01/17/breaki...
Gee, thanks for staying on-topic.
I plan on doing the same. The public employee unions (especially the teachers and the prison guards) pretty much run our state, and they're running it into the ground.
We'll never get a Scott Walker here in the People's Republic of California, but it's not too late for the other 49 states to save themselves.
That, and they don't take rolls of pennies and survival seeds.
It's insane, Nick. Wisconsin is 1 of only 19 states that allows for legislative recall petitions without any obligation on the petitioners part to state the reasons why. If you can get the signatures within the 60-day period, it's goes through. I can't think of a better way around that than what you're suggesting, but they have a defeatist attitude about it and why not. The standard is so low that it's tougher to invalidate. There was Rep. guy name Vos who introduced a 'recall reform' bill back in February to tighten this up, but to my knowledge, it's collecting dust somewhere. Thx Nick.
