On Sunday the Washington Post ombudsman, Andrew Alexander, issued an interesting apology for his paper’s failure to write about the Department of Justice’s handling of the Philadelphia New Black Panther Party case.
After summarizing the case and the controversy over it, Alexander admitted,
The Post didn’t cover it. Indeed, until Thursday’s story, The Post had written no news stories about the controversy this year. In 2009, there were passing references to it in only three stories.
That’s prompted many readers to accuse The Post of a double standard. Royal S. Dellinger of Olney [Maryland] said that if the controversy had involved Bush administration Attorney General John D. Ashcroft, “Lord, there’d have been editorials and stories, and it would go on for months.”
“To be sure,” Alexander said, “ideology and party politics are at play,” although he seemed to be referring only to liberal bloggers, “Fox News and right-wing bloggers,” “Congressional Republicans,” Sarah Palin, etc. No admission, that is, of ideology or party politics at the Post.
To his credit, Alexander chastises the Post for not covering the controversy and concludes by telling his colleagues, “Better late than never. There’s plenty left to explore.” He even suggests some topics:
… coverage is justified because it’s a controversy that screams for clarity that The Post should provide. If Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and his department are not colorblind in enforcing civil rights laws, they should be nailed. If the Commission on Civil Rights’ investigation is purely partisan, that should be revealed. If [former DOJ lawyer and now whistleblower J. Christian] Adams is pursuing a right-wing agenda, he should be exposed.
But is the Post really capable of providing neutral, objective “clarity” when it, or at least its ombudsman, seems so confused about colorblindness, the principle, that is so central to this controversy?
Eric Holder has been Attorney General for a year and a half, and “his department” has not been “colorblind in enforcing civil rights laws” for one day of that time. The Obama administration has nominated two Supreme Court justices and a slew of lower court judges all of whom oppose colorblindness, some of them vehemently. Indeed, one of them, Ninth Circuit nominee Goodwin Liu, even asserted once in a Los Angeles Times editorial that nothing in Brown v. Board of Education “establishes or suggests colorblindness as a legal principle.”
Obama made it clear before he was president that he opposes state initiatives, modeled on California’s 1996 Proposition 209, that would prohibit preferential treatment based on race, and his Dept. of Justice recently filed a brief in Texas supporting racial preferences not only in college admissions but in schools systems in general.
If the Washington Post has ever “nailed” the Obama administration in general or its Department of Justice in particular for their flagrant flouting of colorblindness, it must have used a super-quiet hammer and an invisible nail.

I wonder if Mr. Alexander at WaPo will continue to be gainfully employed or if he will be replaced by, oh, I don't know, maybe a certain former employee who used to work for the USDA.
The mainstream media filters everything through the left-wing narrative. If it hurts the narrative, it gets spiked or those raising the issue get attacked. If it helps the narrative, then they milk it for all it is worth. The narrative supports their agenda, which is to move the country leftward.
The WaPo's demographic is way too liberal and minority to run many stories that offend the sensibilities and prejudices of that mix.
It has become an echo chamber for the liberal establishment that predominates in this town. It's become a comfortable refuge for minorities who want to continue the illusion that they remain oppressed and should continue to be entitled to largess from the public exchequer.
They've painted themselves into a financial corner at the worst possible time – when dead tree media are declining and the hoi polloi are migrating in massive flocks to objective electronic news outlets. They cannot afford to offend those who continue paying for subscriptions nor can they offend advertisers who are more democrat than republican.
The result is a very skewed daily menu of stories that the economic demographic that could save them see through as nothing more than pandering rather than objective reporting.
A perfect example of its lips planted firmly on The One's arse is the WaPo's failure to take him to task for yanking the charter school rug out from under thousands of DC minority families who see DC's charter schools as the last life preserver for their kids who are horribly served by the mess that is called the DC School System. Caving in to teachers' unions, Obama et al cut funding for DC's charter schools forcing those poor kids back into what are essentially dangerous holding pens for DC's youth. The charter school kids might have had a future but that was taken away by the guy they all voted for hoping he would have their best interests at heart and would make decisions, even if unpopular with his financiers, that were the right ones for their futures. They are now royally PO'd at Barry but you won't see much reporting on that in the WaPo.
Watch this space for the WaPo's obituary, not necessarily soon, but inevitable.
Of course they apologized, but only after the story had left the news cycle. They will never run any story that will show the left in a bad light. This apology was nothing but a posturing by WaPo to have some deny-ability on the charge of being biased.
How can the Libtards be trusted to be fair, when their only goal is turning America into a craphole.
"Washington Post ombudsman, Andrew Alexander"……The ombudsman?
Could they have made this huge issue seem more irrelevant?
This story needed the Woodward and Bernstein touch…or at least the "gravitas" of a Dana Milbank…
I guess when the consumer starts canceling subscriptions they need to appear neutral, they didn't explain why they didn't print the story,or look into it,maybe they don't want to rock the boat because when they belly up to the fed window to get their share of the bailout pie they don't want to be secondguessed, they want to show this marxist regime that they can be trusted to misinform the public,or not inform altogether.Nov 2nd is ONLY 105 days away.
"or at least the "gravitas" of a Dana Milbank"
That's funny right there. I don't care who you are. Thanks for the chuckle Drifter.
And they wonder why nobody is reading that newspaper and why ad sales are crashing. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. I wonder if the New York Times and the Washington Post will actually be in business two years from now. The only question is, will the Obama administration and Congress start subsidizing these rats, just like they do NPR and Public Television? Remember, the only thing that can stop it is a major conservative victory in November. It's the only way to stop their agenda.
Putin warned us not to go down the road of Communism and here we have an administration and a media complex doing just that. This utopian world rears its ugly head every other generation and causes nothing but untold misery, but yet it persist in the totalitarian mindset.
Drifter nails it……….the Ombudsman apologizes? What next, the night janitor will write a blog sayin WaPo ignored the obvious and criminal policies of the DOJ and Holder. Maybe your paperboy will put a post it note on your morning Wapo he delivers sayin, "Yeh! Like they said!"
Meanwhile anyone of importance, anyone official at WaPo uttering ONE WORD even in agreement? Kinda hard to do that when the paper has moved on to their newest story….the destruction of our Intelligence services, huh.
Ever see a mother make her child "apologize" for hitting another kid? Anyone believe he meant it? Anyone believe he'd never do it again? Anyone believe he was sorry he DID IT?
How many believe he was only sorry HE GOT CAUGHT?
Go fish, WaPo…..
'Apology' not accepted. Your paper is the mouthpiece of the Democrat Party. No one needs you or your hack paper anymore.
Go pound sand.
Ombudsmen are useless. They have no power and no one in their own organization even listens to them. They exist so that companies can say "see, here's proof we do listen to you".
I think it was Tom Jefferson who said
"A woman who reads nothing, is better informed than a man who reads the WaPo fishwrap"…
I think that's pretty close…
Does anyone still read this rag? Biggest fools are the advertisers who pay for copy in this propaganda tool.
and…my dog ate my homework….some apology!
Hmmmm…. I'm seeing a conradiction here.
If the demographic is so full of liberals who like that kind of reporting, WAPO should be rolling in dough. But, they're not.
I think there is a big difference between a liberal and one who just blindly votes Democrat. I've asked many self professed liberals a few questions on a variety of issues. Then pointed out to them that their opinions were conservative, NOT liberal…… Stop voting Democrat, fool.
We out number them….they just don't know it.
Looking at a person's race for college admissions, employment, financial loans, housing assistance or anything but medical conditions is RACISM.

I think you misunderstood. I think it's pretty clear that the the WaPo does indeed want to nail Holder et al. And by "nail" they want to engage in sexual intercourse.
Perhaps you'd care if you understood HiPlains is a FRAUD and a liar, in the most disgusting ways –
but alas, enjoy your chuckle –
and HiPlains, LOL, Kevinstonewall, any other other dumb ass name up come up with – you have been reported and if you EVER post a pic of me again, the police will be involved – nuff said
what? putin?? c'mon, really??? and you believe that??
putin IS communism!!
couldn't have said it better myself! the deeds have already been committed, anyone who falls for this crocodile tear apology is simply the same dumb ass who believes the wopo to begin with – stupid is as stupid does -
They're not sorry, they're frauds. If the story died, then they protected Obama. By coming out late, and downplaying it, they protected Obama.
The WAPO was the paper that got caught red-handed blatantly trying to raise money for themselves by selling access to the White House operatives for $25,000+ per plate to lobbyists. That's thinking out of the box in hard times.
Sure hope they don't lose more readers over this.
The difference between you and me is that I don't spread lies or act unhinged, no matter what name I may be using. I always make sense and NEVER bother anyone, in contra-distinction to you…
You need to get a grip, stop making unfounded accusations, and understand that just because we had a brief weekend affair and dumped you,. that does not give you the right to poison the well against me here.
We have gone over this in many exchanged emails over the past few weeks. Why you chose to air your grievance here is beyond me…
Now please stop it …I have already reported your slanderous comment above…
Btw, I got rid of all the pics I had of you weeks ago…who wants to be reminded.. NUFF SAID !!
Agreed.
I'm glad you continue to post as you do, the evidence is staggering and somehow the basic guidelines of manners continues to elude you. Please, keep writing, it's quite amusing -
Enough of this.
I hope you tell this OCG woman the same thing…
I just want her to leave me alone and stop saying slanderous things about me
I'm not here to make friends or trouble, just to exchange ideas with intelligent like minded Conservatives…
This woman cannot take rejection..
