Eugene Robinson, the name-calling scourge of all critics of Obama who writes one of the anti-conservative columns at the Washington Post and serves the same function on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” has just provided another example of what post- — or in this case, Post- — partisanship looks like in Obama’s Washington.
According to the Post-partisan Robinson, Arizona’s embattled S.B. 1070 “amounts to a prescription for racial profiling on a scale not seen in this country since the days of Jim Crow laws in the South.” It is “anti-Latino” and “patently unconstitutional.” Those who support it are “xenophobes” and “demagogues … who delight in turning truth, justice and the American way into political liabilities.”

It appears as though the vituperative Mr. Robinson hasn’t gotten the message — stated by pre-presidential Obama on the Rick Warren show in 2008, repeated (with increasing shrillness, as it has turned out) ad nauseum during the campaign, and just recycled on “The View” this week — that “we can disagree without being disagreeable.”
As one can clearly see, there is never any shortage of political invective in Eugene Robinson columns, but there frequently is a severe fact shortage. In the column under review (“Immigration Helps Dems Long Term,” July 30), for example, he asserted that:
[a]side from Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio — a grandstanding publicity hound who already stages immigration raids for the television cameras — virtually all prominent law enforcement officials in the state opposed the law.

Really? Presumably, just to pick one example, the Arizona Police Association, which “represents nearly 9,000 federal, state and local law enforcement officers in the state of Arizona” and strongly supports S.B. 1070, contains no “prominent law enforcement officials.” I guess not, since there couldn’t be any “prominent law enforcement officials” among its members, including:
- Arizona Corrections Association
- Arizona Highway Patrol Association
- Arizona Police Officers Association
- Avondale Police Association
- Buckeye Police Association
- Chandler Law Enforcement Association
- City of Peoria Police Supervisors
- Copper Corridor Police Association
- Deputies Law Enforcement Association
- Gilbert Police Leadership Association
- Glendale Police Officers Association
- Goodyear Police Officers Association
- Mesa Police Association
- Peoria Police Officers Association
- Peoria Police Officers Association
- Phoenix Law Enforcement Association
- Surprise Police Employees Association
- Tempe Officers Association
- University and College Law Enforcement Association.
Even Time and the New York Times recognize that many, perhaps most, law enforcement officials in Arizona support the law. As the Times noted,
…some of the largest rank-and-file police groups have come out strongly in favor of the bill.
The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, the city police department’s largest union, has promoted the bill as a “common sense proactive step in the right direction in the continuing battle on illegal immigration.”
The Fraternal Order of Police, which represents 6,500 officers statewide, endorsed the bill but said it had reservations over the potential costs to departments and the lack of training for local officers to identify who might be in the country illegally.
Bryan Soller, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said if officers ended up arresting large numbers of illegal immigrants, that could add to already crowded jails and costs. Mr. Soller also said departments were worried about the expense of defending any lawsuits by people contending that the law was not being enforced.
But he said he thought many concerns were overblown. His group initially opposed the bill but endorsed it after language was included that he and sponsors believe give officers discretion to use it, in part to ward off federal civil rights claims.
Mr. Robinson, like so many of the post-/Post-partisan Obamanauts, seems congenitally incapable of recognizing that many — perhaps most — smart, decent, reasonable people disagree with him and his Dear Leader. Perhaps he should learn to disagree without being so disagreeable.

Mr. Robinson's stock in trade is race, without it he has no column. I think most people know that now and ignore Eugene's rants.
You know, we should start an expanded JournoList and place on it any media pundit or so-called "reporter" that makes a habit of insulting both the intelligence and character of the majority of the American people while shilling for the political class Left. Plenty of room in that Hall of Shame! How about "The Society of Professional Journolists"?
Eugene Robinson is an Al Sharpton who can write.
All the blacks who use race baiting to shill for Karl Marx and marxism, redistribution are "UNCLE KARLS"
Eugene Robinson is an Uncle Karl just like Obama, and Sharpton.
.
Actually Eugene Robinson is correct. Numerous Sheriff's groups and LE across the nation oppose the racial profiling bill sb1070, including the esteemed Sheriff Dupnik from an actual border county, Pima county. The sheriff's of Sabta Cruz and Yuma counties also oppose the racial profiling bill sb1070.
Additionally, arpaio and his masked volunteer squad routinely racially profile latino neighborhoods during their "suppresssion sweeps" (their term). Arpaio is under investigation by the DOJ for his racial profiling. The honorable Mayor of Phoenix and other mayors and law enforcement & political officials wrote to the DOJ and requested the investigation
Also, arpaio has lost over $40M in lost law suits due to wrongful deaths and vermin/disease in his 120 degree tent cities.
Arpaio will be indicted and hopefully jailed in his own 120 degree tent cities.
Mr. Robinson is a voice for those who have come to believe their own lack of morality and personal courage can always be offset by blaming someone else and having access to a program where they can trade their hard-won independence and freedom from want for a permanent sentence of indentured servitude that doesn't even flatter them with chains.
Mr. Robinson, Shirley Sherrod, and Barack Obama have done more to set race relations back in this country than Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. And that's saying a lot. America is tired of these loons bitching about white America discriminating against black America, when it's really the other way around now.
Why don't you list the "numerous Sheriff's groups that are opposed. And if they are outside of AZ, then their opinion does not matter. The law in question is an AZ law, not federal. The Mayor of Phoenix is a far left dem who favors open borders. And why should jail be a comfortable as a jail? Most of the people housed in tent city have short term sentences and are not violent offenders. For example if you get jailed for DUI you spend your time in tent city. Works as a great deterrent. If Joe Arpaio were so awful, why do the PEOPLE OF AZ keep electing him? I thought we were supposed to respect the vote of the people? If more LE did what Arpai is doing there would be much less crime.
When have facts ever mattered to the left?
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is an American Patriot. He has the courage to do what Barack Obama won't. Round up illegals and process them OUT of our country. What is so hard about advocating for America's sovereignty?? We are being INVADED from the south, and you loons are O.K. with it. I'm all for more "Suppression Sweeps" in Arizona and the rest of our country, for that matter. There is a process for which foreigners may LEGALLY immigrate to the U.S. Sneaking accross the border is NOT part of that process. I live on the border and I know the situation first hand. We MUST secure our borders before we consider any modification to current immigration law.
Funny, wasn't there a Sheriff on Fox last night talking about how this law changed nothing in his agency, but that it just made the dealings with possible illegals the same across the state?
Funny how the liberals/progressives/fools cannot speak the truth, even given a full article of space to do so.
Notice, they're 'across the nation' and not in AZ.
Simply put, there isn't any legitimate organization that will say the police/LE should not enforce the laws of the land, as they are, in reference to those who have crossed our borders without permission/permit..
Yep, I'm sure if you wait long enough the sand on the seashore will evolve into a concrete building on it's own, as well.
Most children have the courage to do what BO will not, speak the truth.
HOw come nobody is making any noise about this Administration targeting White Males??? The White Male, and traditional female, are under assault everyday by this administration based on the color of their skin. Oh, thats right, its ok to be a racist now as long as your not white. ;0(
Dee there is hardly consensus or agreement in any of those counties or the state as a whole. So a sheriff in one county opposes it, a city LE in the same county supports it. So what? What's more is that some of the opposition oppose the law because they are weary of extra cost, etc. NOT because of their pro-illegal-ness. There is a difference.
I work with many MCSO deputies and they don't like the scrutiny Joe brings on them, but they do love their jobs and do them well. Being in the country illegally is still a crime and one that Joe chooses to enforce in whatever loud obnoxious media whoring way he does. If someone wants to run against him and continue enforcing the law without being a loudmouth jerk, I'd be happy to vote for him instead of Joe.
Without the race drum to beat, Eugene Robinson would be unemployed as a drummer. He'd have to find another occupation, Maybe he'll pick up guitar lessons.

There is only ONE minority left in America.
The average white American Male.
The man that carries the burden of the world on his shoulders.
The man who goes to church on Sunday, and says grace over his meals. The man who worries about his kids, and grandkids, and his Country. The man who goes to work, and pays his taxes. Who scrimps and saves, in order to provide for those around him who are his responsibility. The man who goes off to war when his Government calls, without thinking twice or batting an eys; and comes home again all blown to hell and gone, a changed man. There aren't that many left. They have been the Governments Cash Cow now since the inception of the Income Tax.
Quite frankly, they are getting tired of being taken for granted.
They are getting mad.
". . .virtually all prominent law enforcement officials in the state opposed the law." – Eugene Robinson
"Actually Eugene Robinson is correct. Numerous Sheriff's groups and LE across the nation oppose the racial profiling bill sb1070" – dee_321
Statement one: Eugene Robinson lied
Statement two: dee_321 takes this lie as truth, and then adds a compound lie on top of it
I like that! May I use the term, also?
Very glad that this post didn't expense ink. Because wasting ink on what Robinson thinks is just a tad better than wasting ink on what the NYT Blow guy thinks.
Look already. The brochures distributed by NYT and WaPo have been received. Thanks but no thanks. I don't need a timeshare in Progressive Land.
Let's just do away with the border, and the silly pretense of soverignty…
Let everybody in….You in favor of that Dee ?
I guess that "JournoList" thingy is still issuing marching orders….
'cause I'm still hearing plenty of the racist, profiling, unconstitutional drumbeat,( all at once now!.)
from many of these so called "independent" thinking folks on the left…like Eugene Mr.Robinson.
and I'm sure his 10 readers appreciate that, drifter!
))))))))))))))))))))))
"…the racial profiling bill sb1070…"
There is no "racial profiling" in the bill.
That is a lie, and you are a liar.
"Charges of Racism"– the last refuge of scoundrels.
You don't mask your anger do ya !! It would appear that your spouse may have been recenlty deported or something…Put him back in line across the border..I'm sure that in time he'll be allowed back in legally !!!
Off topic, but what's the latest special offer at KFC?
The "Hillary Special" : 2 Plump Thighs, 1 Small Breast, and 1 Left Wing. It's $2.99
Just like a cheating husband accusing his wife of infadelities, thist racist uses his position to spew his lies and racist rants. Prosecute him and other Obamites for hate crimes!
Robinson is correct. He said "virtually all prominent law officials" oppose the law. In response, you listed a law enforcement organization–not an official. You haven't proven Robinson wrong.
Mr. Robinson isn't one to let facts get in the way…
Why only 1 small breast? Is she lopsided or has she had only time for 1/2 of a boob job?
The line attributed to Mr. Robinson is: "virtually all prominent law enforcement officials in the state opposed the law."
Now, I don't live in AZ (but I am in the bordering state of NM) so I do not know how one could make this statement without some kind of factual back-up. Were these people polled? Did Robinson decide who was "prominent" and who wasn't? And, the line does say "in the state" – Robinson does mean the state of AZ does he not? I mean, if he was speaking of the state of Hawaii he might be a bit closer to the truth but c'mon, if the NYTimes even accepts the fact that most LE officials in AZ supported SB1070, how can you support Robinson's comment?
Mr Robinson is a product of a system which rewards those who are least deserving. He is just another fruit of the mediocrity encouraged by Socialism. Mr Nowhere Man is appropriate..
Amen Dawg. Consider the source.
To be fair, Robinson also wrote that one blog for the Kay Graham Memorial Margarita Party, on Jun 16, 2010, which was kind of harsh on Pres. Harvard. It was in response to the time Pres. Demosthenes went without his paper script and called on us to winterize our windows, in order to stop the reported petroleum spillage. So rather than be ad hominem (which Demosthenes actually was, most of the time) look at what Robinson wrote on the merits.
It's kind of thin. There are Rovians who want to "bring Latinos/Latinas into the fold"–whatever that means (I'll put my hyphenated Americans against your hyphenated Americans?)–but he never acknowledges that people in Ariz. are trying to deal with a concrete local problem. Even if some local troublemakers are "grandstanding", how does that pertain to the issue of a judge who has decided she is their social better? Practically there is no way Ariz. can constantly harass anyone and everyone for papers anyway, because, gee, money doesn't seem to grow on trees. Who's grandstanding now?
I lived in a New England state for several years which has some arguably similar laws on the books, which laws are being applied right now. "Where is the outrage", as the Kansan politician said. When Robinson references Do The Right Thing, he's more right than he probably realizes
Here's my idea of the week. I've lived and been influenced by the massive inflow of illegal in both California and here in Texas. The next person from some Midwestern or East Coast loudmouth calls me a racist because I don’t want illegal citizens from the four corners of the world dumped on my doorstep to provide for, I’m going to pull out my tax statement and show them how much it costs to pay for Parkland hospital….We have to pay for a hospital that accounts for the nations highest birth rates to illegals in America.
I’m also going to start a fund to pay for bus fare of captured illegals to be bussed to their towns so they can pay for the expenses of it all (Say like Kerry’s state of Mass. confusion). It is always easier to be generous with other peoples money and when you don’t have to live with the crime associated to a majority of illegal visitors who forgot to go back home.
I would be surprised if more that a dozen people bother to read this racist's rantings.
I have no doubt that if the far majority of illegals were white, Robinson (and the rest of his racist progressives) would be applauding SB 1070.
The very definition of a 'useful idiot'.
Lets see, Eugene Robinson, WaPo………………JournOlist. Nuff said!
And his 10 viewers on MSLSD..
As long as Obumbler is smilin' while he's pokin' us in the eye, it seems OK to do it….
Latinos , Spanish speakers, are not indigenous to the US any more than Brits or Italians. They are desendants of Spanish immigrants mixed with who was found here when they arrived. That is pretty much like the rest of us. Most of us are a mix of immigrants and US citizens.
Why are Latinos coming into the country more deserving than those coming from Italy or Ireland? They are our neighbors and it would certainly make sense to have a good relationship with our neighbor but as we all know that takes two to work.
Why is Mexico so horrible that people run from there like a house on fire. Instead of complaining about US citizens why don't they make their country better. They have a lot of natural resources including the wonderful workers they are always telling us about , beaches , Mexican food, you would think it would be a paradise instead of some sort of prison people have to escape from. Why aren't we escaping the US and running to Mexico because it is so great?
Canada and the US generally have this sort of give and take relationship. There is no reason all of North America could not be a real dynamo instead of all this racial hostility that comes from failing to have a secure border and a modern immigration policy.
Blame Obama first , Eugene, he asked for the job to fix these things.
OK, Twist. (Proper name, that.) It's true that he listed organizations that are in support of sb1070. From that you may infer that the majority of their members support it. At least he listed some source. Robinson makes the assertion but lists nothing, because truthfully, he has nothing to offer to support his assertions.
I regretfully think you are correct.
One Trick Pony.
I have always been amazed of how an idiot can sit in a high rise air conditioned office, in New York City and have a clue of what's going on on the back streets, or steamy washes of a state like Arizona. Do tell Mr. Robinson, do tell!
