I felt I had to write this as I have taken part in nearly every Freedom Concert Tour since Sean Hannity and Col. Oliver North have been promoting them over the last few years.

First of all my late father was promoter of disco bands back in the 1970’s, so I do have a bit of insight into events and the behind scene cost of putting on events that the general public will never know.
While Hannity and North have publicly stated that most of the artists involved in the Freedom Concert Tour donate their time to the effort in supporting the mission of the Freedom Alliance, the small things like air-conditioned buses, catered food and bottle water don’t exactly come for free, along with transport of the bands equipment, band and their family members, security, crowd and traffic control. Simply put, I guess there are a few people out there who believe Charlie Daniels, Governor Perry or Larry “The Cable Guy” are suppose to stand in the hot sun eating ham sandwiches and drinking from juice boxes until they are ready to go on stage. Then there of course is the cost for getting a venue for the 1,000s of supporters who come to these concerts along with their families and invited guests, the pre- and post-show clean up, workers involved such as ticket issuers, ushers and others.
Artists, who have been part of the now expended Freedom Concert Tours maybe in Dallas one day and in Atlanta the next, so unless they are using private jets on their own skinny, someone is absorbing those cost of pilots, the aircraft and fuel maybe tens of thousands of dollars.
Now with all that said, there is the issue of the scholarship fund, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have been going on now for nearly a decade, so a soldier, airman, sailor or Marine, who lost his or her life with a two-year-old child would be nine to eleven years old now? The fund is suppose to be for those children to attend College, I know we have some intelligent children out there, but not a groundswell of tweens trying to get into college.
I am sure that the tax-return forums that all of the detractors are reading and basing their opinions on contain all this information about the behind the scenes cost.
I consider Sean Hannity among many of my friends, many who are regular listeners to the show know my voice, and consider Col. North to be a hero, as most of Central America is not speaking fluent Russian at this point. Most of all, their support of those of us, who have worn the uniform or who are in uniform, has been unwavering.

From the very first day that Hannity publicly announced his support of the Freedom Alliance and its Honorary Chairman, Oliver North, a few hardcore leftists and drive-by conservatives have questioned the whole effort. I personally feel that some in both groups are embittered because the success of Hannity and North to expand and grow the Freedom Concert Tour, while they play the background as backbenchers.
I am proud that I am a part of this noble effort that seeks to provide scholarships to the Children of those Americans, who have paid the ultimate price in their service to our nation and I will not allow a few “haters,” take away from that.

But 90% overhead. $36 of a $40 ticket goes to overhead? How does that compare to Farm Aid or other benefit concerts?
Bite that, Debbie Drama Queen, and choke on it for a while.
Speaking of "freedom" there is a new cartoon up at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/libert... combining features of the Avatar movie and the Statue of Liberty. It's worth a look–Obama's portrayed as the invading force!
The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund has awarded $2.5 million in scholarships to the sons and daughters of American heroes in the last several years, including:
$25,000 to the USS Cole Memorial Fund for the children of the 17 sailors who were killed in the terrorist attack against the USS Cole in October 2000.
$40,000 to the dependent children of the 21 soldiers and 33 sailors killed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
55 individual student scholarships for the 2002 academic year.
73 individual student scholarships for the 2003 academic year.
80 individual student scholarships for the 2004 academic year.
95 individual student scholarships for the 2005 academic year.
105 individual student scholarships for the 2006 academic year.
113 individual student scholarships for the 2007 academic year.
167 individual student scholarships for the 2008 academic year.
If you can do better, then go do it!
Is this about the money? Or instead, is it about spreading the message of freedom in America?
So, a $40 ticket cost? The last concert I went to (Jimmy Buffett) and I had LAWN seating back in 2005 cast me $78. If I could be entertained by top level performers for $40 and still know that a portion even 10% can still be DONATED to a worthy and honeorable cause after all costs and incidentals are covered, then sure, I can see there is nothing going on under the table. I wonder why entertainers like Springstoned or that Irish rock band who is sooo concerned about the world don't participate in the Freedom Concerts? I bet it's because they have a fee schedule they are unable or unwilling to renegotiate to keep the donation level where it is at or better. In fact, those geriatrics still alive from The Who earned more from the NFL than a Freedom Concert takes in as a whole.
Yes 90% overhead at a ticket cost of just $40.00 per ticket, not to mention the free tickets that are given out that take away from the total. Hey, how about those fancy 1$10 – $15 K dinners Che Maobama does for PAC donations? Do you think the food is really that good? Do the chefs donate their time and fees to support that? Does that wrinkle your panties too?
Thank you, Mr. Kevin Martin. God Bless you Mr. Hannity and Col. North.
Hate may appear to scream loudly, but God, The Great I AM, is Love and "he that dwelleth in Love dwelleth in God and God in Him."
So all these people who want to criticize Hannity…. what are THEY doing?
Hannity gives the profit from his concert tour to a charity he finds worthy and honorable. He does not say that raising money for the organization is the primary focus of the concerts.
If you think that money could be raised more efficiently, then go raise money more efficiently.
If you don't support the way the Freedom Alliance is spending it's money, go raise money for another organization that does things your way. There are sound reasons for saving their "war chest" and not spending the money as fast as it comes in. There are reasons for granting lots of (relatively) small amounts rather than a very few massive ones. There are also other ways their money could be spent, and if you think those other ways are better, then go for it.
How about we stop with the whining and the finger wagging and the "But he's doing it wroooooonnnnnng!"
If you really think that Hannity, and the Col. and the Freedom Alliance are doing it wrong, then quit complaining and go do it right.
In 2006 less than 4% of the money earned went to the proper people.
You should really read this: http://bestoftheblogs.com/Home/27235
Freedom IS free. It is oppression that is expensive. It drove the USSR into bankruptcy just as we are headed (living on borrowed time at this point – TENS of TRILLIONS in debt)
Thank you for the insight and your service Mr. Martin.
Anyone with a scintilla of common sense should dismiss these attacks on Hannity and North as baseless and wrong.
(I agree with you btw, stopping Marxists in Central America was well worth the cost, now we need to eradicate the Marxists in our own Congress)
Producing a big concerts costs $$$$$ – thats why there are fewer road show type big acts on the road these days, with a soft economy particularly – from what I've noticed. It's quite a financial gamble.
All this childish chest-beating about "freedom" (when this country was based on LIBERTY – a very different concept) and hoopla including some iconography of the bald eagle (the eagle was a symbol of MONARCHS in Europe, btw) led me to look up Franklin to see where we went wrong:
————–
From http://www.greatseal.com/symbols/turkey.html
"For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him.
"With all this Injustice, he is never in good Case but like those among Men who live by Sharping & Robbing he is generally poor and often very lousy. Besides he is a rank Coward: The little King Bird not bigger than a Sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the District. He is therefore by no means a proper Emblem for the brave and honest Cincinnati of America who have driven all the King birds from our Country . . .
"I am on this account not displeased that the Figure is not known as a Bald Eagle, but looks more like a Turkey. For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America . . . He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on."
The concerts are a morale boost for the troops regardless of the money I would think. I'm sure there isn't anybody who wouldn't want more of the income going to the troops; the question is how feasible is it considering the expense of putting on these shows? I know I'd rather see Debbie Schlussel's efforts focused more on islamic extremism in this country, something she does very well and I hope will continue to do.
(cont) I find it sickening that so many are fooled by this talk of "freedom" when the biggest…indeed ONLY….threat to our freedom and liberty is OUR GOVERNMENT. And since the creation of the Federal Reserve (funny how we have had near non-stop WAR since the empowerment of that cabal, eh?) our government not only enslaves us with law but by our now debt-based currency. But keep throwing your money at snake oil salesmen like Hannity (who never served in the military but wants Americans to die for his kooky ideas which are BIG GOVERNMENT in nature – FAR from "conservative"). You guys are being taken for a ride.
Guess what Guest, your blog implodes right out of the gate: calling Beck, Rush and Sarah 'right-wing whackos [sic]'.

from the fortune 500 top 50 profitmakers around 20 of those out of 500 do better than 10 percent genius
Randy I have bald Eagles living near my lake Huron home and have not only watched them catch their own fish including smallmouth bass but have watched the adults teach the young to do the same seems somewhat honest to me
Percentages:
I work for a non-profit charitable organization. We determine our success by measurement of the percentage of the dollar that go towards beneficiaries to the money coming in. Some of you speak of the cost of running these events. The lion's share of our efforts are spent in the area of sourcing. We seek out those that are willing to donate their time, talents, and resources. We also all have a keen understanding that every penny that is not spent on food, drinks, travel, lodging, etc… is more going to the right place. That is what successful organizations do.
Some here speak of $40,000 going to this and $60,00 to that but the real test is the percentage. The questions that come to my mind are, "Is Hannity a slick salesman, a con man, or just does he just to a really, really poor job of running a charitable organization?"
Regardless of the validity of the cause, 4-7% going to the recipients is a lousy percentage.
You can like what Sean Hannity says without blindly rubber-stamping the performance of this charity. If this were a Leftie "charity," there'd be calls for an investigation. There should be here, also.
At the very least, they need to cut their overhead and send more money to the soldiers and kids. Most people think that they are contributing more than 10%.
Guest #2, you moron, he doesn't RUN those concerts. He VOLUNTEERS his time and effort and PAYs his OWN expenses and those of his family and friends that he invites. Maybe you need to actually do some research before you trip over your wagging tounge!
Rolly
Well it's supposed to be about scholarships for children of soldiers killed in combat, so…yeah…it's partially about money. More money spent on gas for Hannity's private jet, less money for kids to go to school. It's called basic arithmetic, check it out sometime.
I have put on some conferences of a not for profit organization. We had to have food, snacks, a venue and insurance. Plus we had to have lodging and transportation for the speakers. It was tough to break even at $10 per attendee and some donations for a local under 1000 person weekend and a local band with no original material.
Until irrefutable proof is presented, my money goes with Sean Hannitty and Col. Oliver North. Col. North's actions suporting the Nicaraguan Freedom Fighters against the innumerable obstacles thrown up by the likes of such treacherous bastards as, Sen.'s Dodd, T. Kennedy, J. Kerry and others in the Socialst/Democrat party, will never be forgotten by the people who had to suffer through the communist aggresion in Central America. John Kennedy abetted the Castro tyrany. Jimmy Carter, undermined Nicaragua and Iran, Bill Clinton aided the muslims against Serbia, and us, and BHO will destroy Israel if he can. This is the legacy of the Democrat Party in a nut shell.
Except that they never paid for Hannity's jet, travel expenses, etc.
See – http://www.unitedliberty.org/files/freedom_allian...
What people can't seem to wrap their heads around is that this is a scholorship intended for kids, some of whim are infants. Most of the money hasn;t been spent. It's sitting in a trust. A properly run scholorship should in theory, collect enough money to hold in trust that it can meet its future scholorship obligations in perpetuity, spending interest only, never touching the princple.
The expenses of this charity are low in comparison to others. The amount of money spent on fund raising versus donations are in line.
Unless somebody comes up with something else, there is no issue here.
A very lame attempt to defend Hannity and crimnal Ollie North. The real reason for these concerts is to help the troops and their families. Who cares about all the so called arrangements that you are talking about// The bottom line is the troops got a measly fraction of what was collected. Let me put the numbers in simple term to make you understand.
TOTAL MONEY COLLECTED about 49 MILLION. ACTUALLY GIVEN TO THE TROOPS 3.8 MILLION. Now they are changing the tune covering up heir scam and telling us that 15 million is lying in the trust fund which will be given when children grow up. Even then it makes it about 19 million. Still 30 MILLION HAS BEEN SIPHONED OFF IN EXPENSES a LOT OF IN SO CALLED CONSULTANTS FEES. MORE THAN I MILLION IN SHIPPING AND POSTAGE JUST IN ONE YEAR. This was pure and simple scam and we should hold Hannity and North accountable by an independent audit.
So the Freedom Alliance may not be a corrupt charitable organization, but it's certainly an extremely inefficient one. I read one of the tax returns (2006) and the costs were clearly listed. They made $10.8 mil, they spent $7 mil and the gave away $400,000, presumably because they'd already committed the extra $3.4 mil to the next year.
It's not illigeal (I think), but it's not a charity. It's a political event which donates scraps to our soldiers' families for the tax break. Pure and simple.
Heavens no I would not expect super stars to stand in the hot sun and have to endure some hardships before they performed. I am a retired veteran, 24 years active duty, and when I had to endure direct sunlight and numerous hardships in my military career, no one ever went out of their way to give me air conditioning and cold drinks for my comfort. If these parasite performers can't donate time and money for freedom concert tours then they are faux patriots. As Samuel Johnson said "The last refuge of a scoundrel is patriotism".

Regardless of what happens in the ongoing saga of Hannity v. Schlussel's right-on-right-fight-night, chapter ad nauseum, calling Oliver North a "criminal" sounds like the mating call of a rage troll to me. Yes he was convicted – of violating a law that should never have existed. Scooter Libby was convicted too, but is he a "criminal" ? Sandy Berger wasn't – is he "innocent" ? As for those damning the artists, donation of time to a worthy cause is still a donation, even if it's not 100% uncompensated, so don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
If Schlussel's numbers are right, Hannity needs to go to the woodshed, at the least for avidly endorsing a poorly-administered charity. If not, Debbie needs to swallow some of her overwhelming personal animosity toward a man she once kissed up to and focus her energies on the real enemies. This right-on-right crap isn't what we need right now, and cults of personality are for the other guys.
I wonder what the Hannity-North response would be if the Dixie Chicks put on a "benefit" concert for some charity and only 4 % of the proceeds went to the charity? I wonder if the same excuses would be accepted .. "well, it takes alot of money to haul Kanye West's equipment to these events" .. "you can't expect George Clooney and Sean Penn to eat ham sandwiches in the hot sun while waiting their turn to go on stage" .. The amount of money that these Hannity-North events have actually generated for the children of the soldiers is disgraceful .. only a partisan hack would disagree with that
Those of you critizing need to go to this site. Almost everything you are parroting has come from leftist site and the "reports" are absolutely false. Check things out before you begin attacking fellow conservatives. The left hates us and will do anything to destroy one of use, especially if that person is well-known.

Yeah, it can be pretty tough. Entertainment is another huge expense unless you can find a band willing to do it all for charity. Some are willing. Green Day has done it in the past, I believe.
