The LA Times (and its parent company, Tribune, Inc., the largest privately-held newspaper company in America – is on the decline and will continue to be on the decline due to its overly leveraged buyout (possibly fraudulent buytout according to a major lawsuit from lenders for the deal) led by real estate investor Sam Zell and using a Tribune Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP) that actually didn't exist but was created solely to be the main buyer of Tribune! Talk about chutzpah. The LA Times was already facing major competition from online news and from spanish language dailies in the SoCal market. The overleveraged Tribune LBO that drove the company into Ch. 11 bankruptcy destroyed all flexibility and investments in quality journalism. Regardless of whether you are liberal or conservative, there's no denying that the LA Times is now forced to cut corner on accuracy and should no longer be trusted as a newspaper of record.
