Some people will tell you that there is no such thing as a stupid question. They’re wrong. People ask stupid questions all the time. It becomes a problem when people do it on purpose.
The “we’re just asking questions” rationale seems to be the explanation du jour for the tiresome and self-destructive continuing “Birther” fixation of some journalists who purport to be on the Right. As depicted in a fairly straightforward Washington Independent article, WorldNetDaily Editor-in-Chief Joseph Farah used his Friday night dinner speech at the Tea Party convention to “raise questions” about the President Obama’s citizenship, much to the disgust of other attendees, including Andrew Breitbart. “It’s self-indulgent, it’s narcissistic, it’s a losing issue,” Breitbart told one of Farah’s minions, his frustration evident.

Let me add a few more adjectives. It’s “stupid,” “irrational” and “destructive” of everything we are fighting for. The movement might as well take out its figurative .45, aim directly at its foot, and pull the trigger. And, according to a new book by John Avlon, “Birtherism” began on the Left.
These are the same tactics that have been deployed against us for as long as we can remember –charges leveled not to be proven but to merely insinuate. There’s no real question being raised here – the question, such as it was, was answered in November 2008 when the voters elected President Obama fair and square. He won. We lost – at least until the Congressional elections this fall. More specifically, the whole “birth certificate” argument – which was raised and discredited because of its complete lack of merit – lost, clearly and decisively.
The birthers remind me of the freaks who occasionally show up in court with long diatribes about how the Federal Reserve, in conjunction with the Trilateral Commission, is acting unconstitutionally under their idiosyncratic view of the 16th Amendment, which all boils down to meaning that they don’t have to pay taxes. Oh, and the gold fringe on the flag in the courtroom makes it a flag of admiralty, meaning the court has no jurisdiction over them. The judge usually nods, and the deputies haul the “sovereign citizen” off to jail. And I laugh.
There’s no point in reviewing the utter paucity of anything that the Anglo-American legal tradition might regard as law or evidence supporting the proposition that somehow Barack Obama does not meet the citizenship requirements set forth in the Constitution. The true believers are utterly immune to evidence, repeating like a mantra:
1. Obama is not a “natural born citizen” as constitutionally required because his father was a British subject.
2. Obama is at best a naturalized citizen and is therefore not constitutionally qualified to be the President.

That’s what makes the idea that this whole birther nonsense is about “raising questions” – the notion of asking questions implies that the questioner will accept the answer provided by the facts. You can point out facts like the birth announcement from 1961, but that won’t help. Nor does his birth certificate – oh, I’m sorry, “Certificate of Live Birth,” which is supposed to somehow be different.
The point is that the birther journalists aren’t looking for an answer – they have their answer. Which makes what they are doing not journalism at all. And we know something about mindless agenda journalism because it has been trying to undercut, defame and marginalize our movement for decades.
The last thing we need as the truth and power of our core beliefs in small government, a strong defense and the Bill of Rights are becoming evident again even in places like Massachusetts is to distract and discredit ourselves by tolerating weird, nutty conspiracy theories. It’s also a dream come true for our opponents – a chance to dodge the real questions about out-of-control spending, crippling taxes and hug-a-jihadi terrorist policies and to instead focus on the irrational fixations of a few nuts.
Every time some right-wing journalist “raises a question” about the President’s birth certificate, Rahm Emanuel smiles.
We need to stand up and say, “No.” The whole issue is substantively false – the President has always been a citizen and eligible to serve. That’s just a fact – and facts are supposed to be our currency. If there was ever a question, the voters answered it in 2008. I’m still not sure what the birthers want – do they imagine that after the President breaks down on the witness stand and tearfully cops to a Kenyan or Indonesian pedigree like some Perry Mason villain that the Secret Service is going to load him onto a C-17 for exile in Havana? Dudes, unless his term expires, he resigns or is impeached (and no, there’s no grounds for that either), to pull my President out of office means first going through me, the entire US military and about 299 million of 300 million citizens. It just ain’t happening.
We need to say “No” because this whole discussion hurts our country. The incredible damage to the legitimacy of our system by the irresponsibility of the MSM and enablers like Al Gore in the aftermath of the 2000 election is a disgrace they will never live down. For our system to work, for democracy to function, the critical element is that we submit to decisions that go against us. I didn’t vote for the President; you probably didn’t either. But the answer is not to mumble about his alleged illegitimacy (as so many liberals and leftists did in the wake of their narrow defeat in Florida) but to mobilize and do what we do in America when we want to change our leadership – win elections.
In the ‘50s and ‘60s, the conservative movement purged itself of the Birchers. It’s time to do the same with their cousins, the Birthers. Sure, there’s a temptation to paper over the differences, to just let the birthers have their say and then count on them to vote our way in November. The Democrats do that with the 9/11 Truthers – they cynically distance themselves from these creeps, but not too far. After all, the Truthers vote and it’s really not too much of a stretch to think the “Bushitler” regime might have at some level been happy to have the attacks happen in order to justify its War for Oil, right?

But the Van Jones debacle shows what happens when you ride the tiger of conspiracy idiocy. And beyond the practical, utilitarian rationale for rejecting it, there is the more important moral one. It’s dishonest and it’s wrong. We have suffered from agenda journalism and its “question-raising” insinuations in the past. It does not become morally right when our side does it and it certainly does not show the American people that we are somehow ready to govern again.
The minority of conservative journalists who are still flirting with this moronic fixation owe it to their readers to accept the answer. As the majority of Americans once again begin to think about trusting us to lead, the last thing we should be doing is demonstrating that we are unworthy of their trust by consorting with nimrods.

Sorry but your wrong.
barbera beles
The election of Obama was a blessing in disguise. (citizen or not). If McCain had pulled it off we would be heading in the same direction just slower.
Agreed, enough with the birther argument. Let this Administration implode on there own The country will be better off for it.
The author is correct.
We are, to use a phrase, "…straining at gnats while swallowing camels…" with this issue.
President Obama his appointees and the solidly left congress have turned the wheel of State a hard left.
Pres. Obama and congress are doing real damage right now to the country and setting up entitlements that will hamstring the economy for decades to come.
There are plenty of real and present things to oppose without taking on this issue.
The author is correct. Clining to the birther rumors is the equivalent of throwing more fuel on the liberal fires of the main stream talking heads.
Sorry.. Their own. Damn public screwls…;)
the question is can a birth certificate be melted by fire, because we know steel can't be !! Right? Right? Guys?
uh, Hello?
the way I see it The Bilderbergers and the Coconut Grovers are trying to frame the Trilateral comission for it, when we all know that it was the Knights Templar who are really the Freemasons (Scottish Rite not F&M) to raise the price of oil so we can get it for free from the … oh the hell with it. I'm tired of letting the conspiracy nuts have a forum. It just gives legitimacy to these nuts who should have shrivelled up and blown away by now.
I could not agree with you more! I heard someone the other day saying maybe Obama has not let the original document be disclosed because it is something he can use, the birther fringe kooks, using this to his advantage. It is a negative that definitely discounts our side.
There is so much more to take them down with, they have left us a rich trail to follow and tear apart. Their hand has been played, the cat is out of the bag, the regressives are no longer hiding their game plan….
Kurt, you're a Bozo.
Show the document. It's that simple.
I'll spring for the twenty dollars.
When you spend a fortune to keep a document hidden, you certainly give the appearance of hiding something.
Are you idiots really suggesting we take Obama at his word on anything?
If regular citizens have to produce a birth certificate to get a drivers license, a citizen should have to produce one to get his hands on the nuclear trigger. The president is not a king, not a god, and not a movie star. He's a citizen, just like the rest of us.
If the law does not apply to him, then it no longer applies to anyone.
Amen!
What like 'healthcare', printing monopoly money and further indebting everyone, keeping troops in over 200 countries worldwide? Where's the hope and change? Same old thing different puppet. What sand dune is your head buried in?
I agree with the author. Lets's drop this. I want to believe that the sob that single handedly destroys our economy, our nation, our freedom and our constitution, is, at least, abusing his office legally.
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Vince Humphreys, greychampion, Derek Hunter, Granny Peterson, Carissa Mulder and others. Carissa Mulder said: RT @BigJournalism: Get Over It: ‘Birtherism’ Is Not Journalism http://bit.ly/csUi3u [...]
True. Though it is fun to joke about, at times. I'm sure more doubt still exists in the collective mind of the left. heh…heh…heh…
Agreed. I think there are Birthers who think he's not a citizen and then there are people who want to know what he's hiding. A certificate of live birth is not a birth certificate…so what's on his (American) birth certificate he doesn't want people to see?
It’s also a dream come true for our opponents
Almost, but not quite. In my opinion the entire birthers movement is a combination of the left attack machine, and the natural tendency of any ideology or movement to attract conspiracy nuts.
The left keeps the story alive because any time they want to duck hard news that might not hold Obama in the presence of the Holy Ghost, they simply trot it out, chuckle about how dumb "they" are, proving how smart they themselves are.
Obama's team loves it too. They know the opposition is going to glomb on to something, so they hand picked this one, because its the easiest to spin to their benefit.
The left is using it to play the right like a harp from hell. It's a shame to see so may on the right fall for this amateurish trick. You should have seen how it wrecked littlegreenfootballs.com.
Mission accomplished.
Obama's skill at and penchant for keep as many people as possible in a constant state of angst is probably the best reason for not addressing the birth certificate although I gotta wonder why he has spent as much money as he has to keep it under wraps. Maybe he sees it as a small price to pay for the political advantage he gets from doing so. I suspect Coulter got it right when she said that, if there was an issue, megalomaniacal Hillary surely would have brought it to light, which I'm kinda inclined to believe. There's no end to the connivances the Left is willing to engage in so to try to pin this one down is likely to just make fools out of any one who thinks they have the right answer.
but, even if he might have a valid birth certificate, he went to school in indonesia as a child on a british passport, and used that same passport to go to pakistan in the 80's. that he openly admits. so how did he get a u.s. passport back? he also went to college on a scholarship only available to foreign students. did he use his british passport for that as well? i would like to know how he got his passport back?
Let me put out an example using hyperbole (exaggeration for the sake of emphasis).
Let's say the president in office was (insert dream candidate name here) .
Let's also say some members of the left in this country thought he/she was really the bastard offspring of Bigfoot and a Space Alien and drew attention to this issue spent a lot of time, money and kept everybody from paying attention to the legislation passed by the president/congress.
If I were that president I would encourage this inanity because it keeps people from paying attention to the real things I am doing. F**k, I'd even send them some money to continue the search for my Bigfoot-E.T. parentage.
Yes, but let it remain unanswered. It hurts us now and we have to play the game. Farah needs to step back and shut up.
I agree the "birther" issue does not belong in the Tea Party or the Republican party; however, your claims that there is no basis to people's concerns is as much a strawman as HuffPo's whining over Sarah's crib notes. A certificate of live birth is not a birth certificate. It just isn't so let's get past that. Virtually all of Obama's past is hidden-his college writings including his dissertation, there are no traces of his writing in the Harvard newspaper he was editor for, there is no record of how a very middle-class child paid for school. This man's history is a mystery and people want to know what is there.
I agree that the citizen thing is a tool of the Left to cause problems and should not be taken up as party line but in your article, you ignore all other aspects of the "birther" issue that don't make people look like tinfoil hatters and I don't believe it's that clear cut.
Kurt,
Answer these questions and all of us pesky people will just go away.
1. Why won’t Obama produce his long form birth certificate showing the location of birth and attending physician’s name? Why?
2. Why doesn’t he just show the birth certificate and shut all of us up? Why?
3. What is on that birth certificate that he doesn’t want us to see?
4. Why has he spent all of that money defending the lawsuits when he could have just saved the money and produced the birth certificate? Why?
Answer these questions Kurt…instead of ridiculing those who have the temerity to ask them.
John
Here's the thing, I don't doubt he was born here. The problem is the birth certificate they show is from recent times, It was printed on a dot matrix printer. It does not resemble in any way a birth certificate from the early 1960s. My sister was born at the same hospital in Hawaii as BO, only a couple years afterward. Hers' was typed, which most documents were back then. It does not look in any way like the one they show as BO's BC.
All he has to do is show the real document. What is the problem? And while he's at it, there's a lot of other things he should be able to show like his grades in schools, who financed his Harvard Education, etc. IF the left was so demanding of Bush's past records, they should have no problem with that
I agree that it is pointless to argue this subject now. Having said that, i have to say that it makes for a good conspiracy. It does seem that all the questions could be easily put aside with a little cooperation from the citizen in question, but that would just allow for more focus on his other problems, like running the country into bankruptcy. Personally, I'll wait for the History Channel special in a few years before making up my mind.
Right on! Maybe now is not the time to go after it, but someday this question must be resolved. I can just imagine the turmoil that would result if it is revealed in a decade or so that Obama was never a legitimate president.
What an ass. Can you not understand the reason for the NBC requirement in the constitution? It so the president doesnt have divided loyalties. Being a Brithish subject disqualifies him. Period. That is the Law of the Land.
So using your logic if 60 million voted for the Govenator of California – Arnold S. he would be President ( which of course he cannot )? Its not a popularity contest, its the Presidency, and the constitution outlines who can hold the office and who cannot.
Obama is the biggest hoax in the history of the republic. This makes Watergate seam trivial at best.
I don't consider myself a "birther" at all. But we citizens can barely travel any more without exposing all of our dirty laundry to some nameless unelected bureaucrat. If the slightest thing is out of line mit diene papieren, you're likely to get a fisting lesson in the back room.
This affirmative racism clown from Chicago has the ability to blow up the entire freaking world and we aren't allowed to know anything about him. He doesn't have to prove anything. Try going through the airport for a flight you paid for and refusing to document yourself.
People who think that is right are simply not my friends.
When we elevate a self selected elite class to a status where they can not be touched, we are sowing the seeds of our own destruction, and that crop has already taken root.
Yeah, to hell with those documents like the Constitution and the ideals they put forward. To hell with right and wrong.
When I left my abusing ex-husband, he didn't want anyone to know the reason why, so he claimed I must have been crazy or I must have had a brain tumor. Some people actually believed him and it left me a little defensive. I feel the same way today with Barry's lack of a birth certificate. I just would like to know the truth from a man who doesn't normally tell the truth.
OK…. let's say he is a citizen… Then where are all of his school records? I want to see them.
The whole birther thing is getting embarassing, even if they are right so what?
Do you think you will ever get him dumped out of the presidency that way? If Ronald Regan had not been born in the US would that have made him a bad president.
Obama's insanity in regards to policy, economics, security etc. is more than enough to sink his ship, the rest of this is like launching bottle rockets at a tank, a complete waste of time.
Just one question, Kurt: Who documented that Barack Obama was/is Constitutionally eligible to be POTUS? Is FactCheck.org a "contolling legal authority" as Al Gore once said? " 'Birtherism' is not Jounalism"? "Birtherism" exists because of a lack of journalism.
Left KOOL-AID. Right KOOL-AID. Kool-aid just the same. Aside from your analysis lacking reason and facts, it is extremely inaccurate. It was my understanding that Andrew Breitbart took a rather aggressive position involving the FREE SPEECH ATTACK perpetuated upon Dr. Michael Savage. Any suppression of truth or fact is vulgur. I particulary find your "unworthy of their trust" contradictory. FYI. You may want to consult the constitution or do some research about "naturalized citizen", there is not such legal basis for POTUS eligibility relating to naturalized citizen.
A very well articulate argument against any continuation of this "absurd" notion of illegitimacy. One problem he has never proven his right to hold office. He has not been vetted and if you can just shame enough who question this I guess you think people will not ask for a reasoned response from the "president"… Nice try.
Very true, that's why I remind birthers that even if they were right in some weird alternate reality, that would mean we'd have President Biden. That's way scarier.
I don't know if the so called birthers are nutts? But I do know one thing, if they are right. There is darn sure a reason for him(osama von chicago) to be removed. And he would be removed. Everyone, no matter what side of this issue know's it would be game over if Osamabama where not a Natural Born Citizen.
None of these so called journalist of whatever stipe, ever ask the one question they should be asking, if it is no big deal, and everyone who ask's the question is nutts, why does he (osamabama) just not show the birth certificate? The only reason,( and no it is not some brillent plan to make conservative journalist seem crazy, or out of touch with the main stream) is that he can't. He can't show it, because he does not have one.
I heard someone the other day saying maybe Obama has not let the original document be disclosed because it is something he can use, the birther fringe kooks, using this to his advantage. It is a negative that definitely discounts our side.
Someone posted something on another thread that pretty much sums up my feelings on the "birther" issue (my paraphrase).
Obama won't release his long form so I assume there is something he doesn't want us to see and it must be pretty bad.
He won't release his college transcripts so, again, there is something in them he doesn't want us to see.
He won't release nearly every document that most Presidents have openly offered to we, the people, so I assume he's hiding something.
Until I see otherwise, these are my assumptions which I think are realistic. His life is not transparent and neither is he.
End of story.
"We need to say “No” because this whole discussion hurts our country". Who died and made you God? To quote Dr. Michael Savage: "ANY SUPPRESSION OF FREE SPEECH OR ONES PURSUIT FOR THE TRUTH IS VULGUR".
This is my last visit to your business. Good luck to you in "our movement", whatever that is.
There are million of us out here that believe THE TRUTH AND THE LAW is above "our movement" or "our country", and definately above your opionions that seek to intimidate others. So sad to see Breitbart sink to the tactics of the left. So sad.
Just one Question??
Look at father's race on the COLB?
Is that what they used in 1961 or is it a fraud?
Nice job Kurt. When you read through court transcripts as Orly Taitz has tried to press the issue, the judge's ultimate response is: if you're correct, what's the remedy? The Electoral College has spoken. Absent impeachment or resignation – which ain't gonna happen, even if the birthers were 100% correct – it's pointless. Barack Obama is our President for better or worse, end of story. You laid it out perfectly. Bravo!
Kurt (that's the only name I'll call you although you sure did lots of name-calling in this piece):
FYI: The conservative movement has never purged itself of the Birchers. If anything the Birchers purged themselves of the faux-conservatives. It is they who have remained staunchly constitutionally conservative, through the decades, gaining momentum and members. In fact, several outstanding members of state legislatures are active in the John Birch Society. Go figure.
Perez Hilton called, he'd like to say you're a little too much of a drama queen for his tastes.
"the conservative movement purged itself of the Birchers. It’s time to do the same with their cousins, the Birthers"
Wow! Someone feels important! What happens if the "Birthers" kick YOU out of the conservative movement? Let's all start purging each other from the conservative movement and then insist that the little slice we've carved out for ourselves is the REAL conservative movement!
You simply aren't going to shame people into believing that a dual citizen at birth qualifies as a Natural Born Citizen. You have to play dumb to believe those two things are compatible, and no one wants to be in a movement of dumb-players.
Why won't Obama produce his long form birth certificate showing the location of birth and attending physician's name? Why?
Because your fellow conspiracists produced several fraudulent birth certificates already. Why should he believe you won''t do the same with his original records?
Why doesn't he just show the birth certificate and shut all of us up? Why?
Because the last time he tried to do that, he was beaten over the head with it.
What is on that birth certificate that he doesn't want us to see?
As the COLB is the electronic version of the original, I don't see why you expect to find anything new..
Why has he spent all of that money defending the lawsuits when he could have just saved the money and produced the birth certificate? Why?
Because that's not true. Yet another completely unsubstantiated assertion, courtesy of WND. But it's been repeated so often, it's regarded as gospel by those who are predisposed to think the worst.
Correct, my friend.
And if it was done properly, where are the records of it. They should be generally available,
or at worst, an FOIA request.
A secret government is a tyrannical government.
I showed up with a short-form (COLB) for my daughter's soccer registration and was turned away needing an original 'long form' (i.e. the thing BO has spent hundreds of thousands keeping under wraps). The Hawaiian newspaper announcements were NOT made based on parental request (the point you hold so dear as "fact"), they were simply town hall blotters (they simply posted the COLB's that were filed at town hall). A person born in Kenya, to a mother with a Hawaiian address, would have the exact same documentation at the time. You sound like a climatologist with your, "the science is settled" line. The bottom line is this: your casting dispersions on WND is exactly what the left does to everyone who disagrees with them. Instead of "stupid", why don't you just call Farah, "F'n retarded" and join THEIR club? I say this tent, and this country, is big enough for birthers, truthers, librals, and conservatives. I just hope the mindless masses, and the supreme court, don't use a newspaper announcement from 50 years ago to determine "fact" when a notarized document exists in a vault.
If you do nothing and don't fight when you know something is wrong you lose your ground the next time when they put someone up that really needs to show proof of birth or anything else. Allowing him to brush this off allows BO to stand above the Law.
I don't have a problem with questioning why there is such secrecy with Obama's past, the problem is that the Birthers have destroyed the ability to ask. By merely posing the question, you are lumped in with the lunatics who insist it's all some convoluted conspiracy. I think there are unsavory things in his past that he doesn't want brought to light, so he is secretive about everything. That way all questions can be attached to the, "I don't believe he's really an American" mindset. It's the best way to avoid having to address things that might make him look less like the Moderate Pragmatist he pretends to be.
Suggest you check the category "Father's Race" on the COLB?
Is that a race, or what was used in 1961, or a questionably fraudulent document?
Yes, McCain was born in the Canal Zone. And a handful of people yakked about that to no avail. And a lot more have questioned Obama's birth. I think they will also gain nothing.
IMO the real difficulty is in the Constitution itself. It does contain that "natural born citizen" clause but it says nothing about what to do if the clause is violated. IMO the words seem to be an instruction to the Electors. But once they chose Obama the Electors had no further authority to do anything.
Could the Congress impeach? Sure, they can impeach for anything.
Would this be a high crime or misdemeanor? Technically I believe not. Technicalities seldom trump politics so we can't be sure.
So even with smoking gun proof that O is not a NBC what would or could be done?
Check out the article by Jack Cashill at Americanthinker.com from February 7, particularly the comments afterwards. What's really important, it seems to me, is not the details of his birth certificate but rather the suppression of all discussion of Obama's background by the Liberal journaliasts in bed with him. None of them delved into his college days, his law school days, the details of how he financed college or lawschool, his associations and his jobs. Anyone daring to get into any of this stuff during the campaign was immediately accused of being "racist." That is the much more important issue to expose as we go forward to 2010 and 2012.
You're protecting the fox already in the henhouse, for fear of the skunk that might come after him?
It doesn't matter who was next in line. The Constitution is what matters.
I want the truth from my government. I'll trust if they let me verify.
Besides, Biden would be a riot. He's such a helpless fool he could do little harm.
Might still all die, but we'd die laughing at him.
Half of America disagrees with this author. We want the “president” to cough up the documents proving he can hold the office of POTUS, of get out of the White House. Not one document has been even presented, mush less validated in a court of law.
You sound like a Property Court Judge from Massachusetts.
A man breaks into my empty apartment and won't leave. The police won't come, claiming it's a landlord -tenant dispute.
The judge says, you should have written a better contract when you rented to him. He can stay forever now, for free.
If someone breaks the law to get into office, that's all the more reason to remove him from his office.
The injustice of the whole thing is why people won't let it go.
Breitbart is another Murdoch puppet like Beck and they are all reading the same script and it is coming from Saudi Arabia.
A certificate of live birth is the long name for the more informal "Birth Certificate"!!! I was born in the state of Oregon, and the document that proves it has "Certificate of Live Birth" scrolled across the top! There is one simple way to answer this question. Prove that Obama never traveled outside the U.S. as a private citizen of our country.
You can't because the same people also claim that he converted to Islam while in Indonesia… A place he traveled to with a US passport. The man may be a raving left-wing lunatic, who has an agenda to turn our country into a socialist paradise, and needs to be stopped, but, he is an AMERICAN raving left-wing lunatic, who has an agenda to turn our country into a socialist paradise, and needs to be stopped.
In JAN, the TTL# identifying themselves as Dems fell another tenth-of-a-percentage point. The # of Dems is now at the lowest level recorded in more than 7 yrs of monthly tracking by Rasmussen Reports. However, the # of Repubs dropped by nearly two percentage points. Currently, 35.4% of adults view themselves as Dems. That’s down from 35.5% a month ago and 36.0 two months ago. Prior to last month, the lowest total ever recorded for Dems was 35.9%. The # of Repubs is now down to 32.3%. The # of Repubs in the country has stayed between 32.3% and 34.05% in every month for the past 18 months. The # of adults not affiliated with either major party is now up to 32.3%. That’s the highest number of unaffiliateds since 2007. Kurt, before you decided to put out this very offensive diatribe, did you think to consider that the "unaffiliateds" people are the same people as the "birthers". Get it, they are increasing at an asstounding rate. And you just piled a massive insult upon this rapidly growing market share. If its any consolation, at least you look good with the elitest know-it-alls at Fox and you don't have to worry about an IRS audit.
Just show the real bc.
People in opposition to the statists should fear nothing they have to say. They are the problem
Right on!
Actually, it would undermine Biden's very election to the office of VP. The only way to resolve it would be to hold a special election (although there is zero chance of Obama being removed from office at this point). It will be interesting, however, to see if this issue comes up in 2012.
just show the damn certificate! If Repubs get the majority, they need to RAM through legislation for ALL candidates to prove citizenship beyond the short form. let obama veto that…then you'll know
Hear, hear! This whole cover-up is the problem. We're left with a mountain of unanswered questions that were posed long before the election. Trust is the issue at hand and these lingering questions only fuel further distrust of the system. I'm in agreement that no answers will be forthcoming so we shouldn't be side-tracked in pursuit of them. The day will come, though…
This elitist mentality is exactly why a lot of Americans dislike the leftist Democrats. When the name calling condescension "you are a stupid birther, and I am the enlightened journalist" comes from the right it is a little harder to swallow. The problem is there are a lot of middle Americans who are concerned about the Constitution and the abuses it faces. These are the people who are not preoccupied with winning and losing, they are worried about what is right and wrong. And the fact is that some other people want to pick and choose what parts of the Constitution we abide by based on it's "worthiness as a winning issue". These people are the "Politicos" who are keeping score and a check mark here ("W") or there ("L") makes a big difference. Making fun or mocking the sincere concern people have about the "Natural Born Citizen" clause in the Constitution is not going to make it go away. It will only alienate more and more people. There are endless resources on the internet making actual LEGAL arguments about the "Natural Born" issue and why it is important, however this article states NOT ONCE legally why it is not. "Obama was elected and that is all there is to it" is not a legal argument!
I think Mr. Schlichter is wrong on some points. Yes, this could be seen as kooky by most people, but as we all know most people don't critically analyze anything they hear, read, or see. The COLB only verifies there is a long-form document. We want to see the long-form document. Obama sealed all of his personal, professional, and schoalstic records. Why? Why is it so difficult to produce the document? Why is it so out of the question to do so? Can someone please tell me who verified this information when he entered the race for President or assumed office?
Let's say, for example, that a person born in another country to non-US citizens was transported to this country (FYI: Its a fact that Hawaii provides Hawaiian COLBs to children born in other countries who are soon transported to Hawaii) and given a COLB. He then does well, scholastically, and graduates with a law degree. He runs for state office, then Congress, then President. If no one checks his documentation how do they know he's Constitutionally eligible to assume the Presidency? Please answer that for me. BTW: Liberals have over the years changed what "natural born citizen" means, so under today's laws Arnold Schwarzeneggar could become President. They successfully made a provision of the Constitution meaningless. Is this good for America? I say it is not.
I was last told the issue was "settled"…and then somebody blew the whistle and now some guy who sent out emails is contemplating suicide.
I'm not so arrogant to suggest that I "know" with absolute certainty what the circumstances are related to someone's birth nearly a half century ago.
I have also seen enough documentation be buried, forged, and distorted…to not rule out foul play of some sort, although I don't know how to prove or disprove such things.
But, I do know this…when the media refuses to vet a candidate, when a candidate has a penchant for blocking inquiry into past associations and activities…it raises a red flag.
Where people take that red flag and run with it…may be …from time to time…down some blind alleys. Yet, you never know what 'other" information might be unveiled, by actually doing the vetting…that was deliberately abandoned the past couple years.
So, while I generally dislike bizarre conspiracy theories…it was the conspiracy of silence and the intentional obscuring of natural fact checking…that leads me to say that …if you act in a suspicious manner, don't get offended when people begin to suspect something.
A natural born citizen is not simply just a citizen! Even if BO is a citizen (which he has never proven), he is not a natural born citizen, as required by the Constitution.
The author is a purveyor of propaganda, nothing more. Anytime someone equates Birther with Bircher, you know they are a hack. The Birch Society can't be counted among "Birthers," for one. Second, the Birch Society is practically the only conservative organization that has not abandoned the Constitution and has maintained the idea that the government should be restricted to only limited enumerated powers. Not so the neocons, who are more than happy to expand the power of government whenever it suits their agenda.
I noticed you failed to provide any facts to support your assertions the so-called birthers are part of a "movement" or consider themselves "conservatives"? I have never seen any polls on this subject, in fact, is it not so that the pollsters have avoided the subject of Obama's eligibility and lack of proof of NBC? Before taking on this issue, did you consider that these people you refer to might be unaffiliated from your "movement" or any other organized group for that matter? Your entire approach to the subject matter is infantile and falls short of the journalism your reference. FYI, please take note for any future "journalistic license" you pursue relating to "birthers", study of the media indicates this is a word created to be a tactic to intimidate and prevent the free-flow of speech and information about Obama, your use of the word and your attack methodologies indicate you are either ignorant of traditionally leftist tactics, or you condone and thereby now participate in such tactics.
of course he has a passport. He travels all over the world.
He's right folks, the birther thing is a distraction. It is the noose we provide the left so they can hang us with it. There is enough wrong with this president and his whacked -out agenda wihout the question re: his place of birth.
This should be a no-brainer, produce the birth certificate so that document experts can examine it and end of story. Unfortunately it is not the end. The Obama Administration claims to have put his birth certificate on the Internet for examination by all. What they posted was a document that had obviously been photo-shopped, and not a very good job at that. ALL AMERICANS SHOULD BE INTERESTED, is this man, who is enacting huge changes to our society, actually eligible to be president.
Obama supporters and apologists have taken great comfort that Bill O'Reilly (Fox News) and others have stated that on the date of Obama's birth, two different Hawaiian newspapers published a notice of the event, and, since nobody could have foreseen that Obama would someday run for POTUS, those notices are proof of his Hawaiian birth."
But are they proof? Assuming the notices are valid, isn't it quite possible that Obama's mom, or grand-mom simply wanted him to have the privileges of a US Citizen and so notified the newspapers days or even weeks after the event at another location and time?
Obama is in charge of the most powerful military force in the world. OBAMA HAS THE POWER TO START A NUCLEAR WAR with the push of a button, WITHOUT CONSULTING ANYONE. It would seem prudent to check him out.

Thanks for telling me I'm stupid. But I think I'll keep demanding all of Obama's records, including his birth certificate. You know, I remember some "conservatives" saying that trying to dig up the truth on ACORN was a stupid waste of time. Breitbart seems to have done nicely asking 'stupid' questions.
He went to college on a scholarship only available to foreign students?
Where is evidence of that?
I'm sure your fluffy little heiney is precisely to his taste, Dez.
All of the energy being expended on the "Birth Certificate" issue is just a diversion. The man is one of the most accomplished liars this country has ever known. He has virtually unlimited assets vis-a-vis the people who put him in office and there certainly has been enough time to create the finest forgery money can buy and, who knows, at some point it might be displayed. There has been so much weight placed on "THE" birth certificate, at that point, the game will be over with the pubic airing of the "real thing".
The problem is not with the certificate. The problem is that the man is, by virtue of his British father, not qualified to even be considered… end of discussion. But as long as they can keep people focused on the BC issue it keeps us from considering the real issue. Just like a magician uses slight of hand…you can't focus on the hand he's waving around, you have to watch his other hand if you want to see the trick.
(continued)
Just out of curiosity, I would like to know (and see) the passport he used to travel to Indonesia. I would like to know who paid for him to jet-set around the globe on multiple international flights as he was virtually unemployed at the time. And I would like a true explanation how, for all practical purposes, a young immigrant to the US who was a mediocre student and just a few years prior (by his own admission) was sleeping in his car, was A) accepted at Harvard Law and B) Paid the tuition.
God gave each of us a brain. Use it to contemplate if the things we know about this man are possible. This person's entire life is based on one lie spun after another. He is a player and we are the playees.
He seriously needs to have the light of Truth shown on him before it is too late for us all.
You missed the entire article, apparently. We're not talking about "substantive issues" from the left, but from the right. Wasting our political capital on a witch hunt that won't even pay off if it were to succeed is damaging a real opportunity for the right to get back into the game.
Except that it may be taken to a "world court," which would make our Constitution subject to international laws.
Anti-birtherism is not journalism. This article proves it. Another lefty apologist refusing to ask the president to just show us the paper. There are no requirements in the Democratic party to do anything that is moral or law abiding.
Schlichter, you blew it.
You produce some arguments: [...] You can point out facts like the birth announcement from 1961, but that won’t help. [...]
A newspaper birth announcement is all what's you can present here? Birth announcement which has been proved that weren't generated upon BIRTH CERTIFICATES, but upon a list compiled by the Hawaii HD, where anyone could walk-in and declare a birth? It doesn't fly, buddy –
Then: [...] Nor does his birth certificate – oh, I’m sorry, “Certificate of Live Birth,” which is supposed to somehow be different. [...]
Can you show me a signature on that COLB, a name of a doctor and a hospital, and all other data WHICH are present on a real BIRTH CeERTIFICATE?
Then, can you explain why the Hawaii HD is stubbornly refusing to confirn or deny that they ever issued the document presented on the Internet as proof of Obama's constitutional legitimacy?
And why doesn't Obama release his BC? A $15 would settle the matter -
Obamatrolls always on duty – I'll add you to my collection -
I agree that it is to Obama's political advantage to let this nonsense keep running. I do have one comment. I keep reading and hearing that Obama or the DNC or whatever have spent huge sums of money on this, but there is no evidence for that. It's in the public record that they've paid X number of dollars to a law practice, but not what those dollars paid for. The only case I know of in which someone representing Obama or the DNC (can't remember which) presented an argument in court was in October 2008 when they got a birth certificate case dismissed on the grounds that the plaintiff didn't have a legal interest in the case. They stated publicly that they went to this trouble because they didn't want any waters muddied right before the election, however without merit the case was.
My point is that Obama has no motive to make this thing go away. Just the opposite. The birthers are dupes.
You are so wrong about this.! More high quality investigative journalism has gone into the "birther" issue than went into Watergate. You just haven't read it yet.

Somehow, you know its coming. That OMG moment is just around the corner. You can feel the inescapable reality creeping up on you. Something will leak. Someone will spill the beans.

Where are the facts? Missing from this flawed assertion, per National Databases, Obama used as many as 39 different social security numbers, none issued in Hawaii. Are we to assume Breitbart journalists investigated and the mountain of facts? You failed to reference any such investigations. Or maybe investigative journalism is reserved for those kids that carried the camera-phone into the Acorn offices? Obama has used for most of his life in Massachusetts, Chicago, Illinois and currently in the White House SSN XXX-XX-4425; which was issued in Connecticut between 1976-1979 and assigned to an individual born in 1890, who would have been 120 years old if alive today. Pile on the fact that Obama never resided in Connecticut and that he is clearly not 120 years old, your assertions and statements "tolerating weird, nutty conspiracy theories" comes across as woefully inadquate, which then leads one to question your motives. Since when do you or anyone else get to decide for others what gets "tolerated" and what does not? If this is what ("your movement") Breitbart journalism is about, no thanks.
Then after the Tree of Liberty has been sufficiently refreshed, that order from the soon to be defunct "World Court" will be rescinded.
Birch, I suspect, got a bad rap on a lot of things. Discreditation through character assassination is not as new as many would like to believe.
I gotta admit that I haven't seen anything official to lend creedence to the claim that he has spent a lot of money on lawyers to muddy this issue.
I am deeply skeptical of *anything* I read on World Net Daily, unfortunately. Some of their articles, including the matter of Obama's birth certificate, strike me as stories with one fact taken out of context at best and unsubstantiated hysteria and/or the product of someone's fevered imagination at worst.
I agree that we need to keep our distance from the Birthers.
An article long on invective but short on facts.

Here is what happens to a man who refuses to verify his identification in America.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9DO9M800...
Now we don't know if he's a creep or just a fed up citizen/customer who doesn't want to play by the ever expanding rules that bind the servant class.
But, then, we don't know that about Barak, either.
Because he will not allow us, his employers,to verify his identity.
He is, after alll, just a short term, temporary employee.
He's not a god or a king.
Folks:
There are two sets of rules: one for Obama and the other for the "not Obamas". Our not being permitted to question the Dear Leader is exactly the crap that led to the election of arguably the most incompetent indivdual to hold the office of the presidency. There were no legitimate questions on his experience, background affiliations or fitness to lead that were not shot down as coming from irrational racists. He NEVER had to answer a single question that he chose not to answer! The birth certificate is just another example.
I have no idea as to his citizenship status but I am sure his past activities and behavior scream "marxist radical" and that is what he is most interested in hiding.
The birth certificate has been shown.
Conspiracy theories exist because to some people, facts can always be explained away, no matter how far-fetched the explaining is.

I believe Obama took office and wasted no time with his pronouncement to his opposition, on his very first day he said "get over it"…combined with "I won". So you might want to reconsider your choice of words given the company you joined. Especially in the shadow of "Climate Gate", as you know, that was moving full speed to mindless taxation, until a hacker [not a news organization] released the now famous emails. The know-it-all scientist elites followed similar strategies that you have taken here, demonizing the detractors with the same choice of words "It’s “stupid,” “irrational” and “destructive”. Sound familiar? So "let me add a few more adjectives", your editorial amounts to professional malpractice, intimidation, arrogance…you see, out of all those pesky little weirdos you obviously find so intollerable, somebody, somehow, one day is going to break through.
…not that I support a world court; I don't. Nor do I support that fraud, Barry Obama.
If this issue is taken to a world court, there will be a revolution, but not without shots being fired…not that I'm against that either. When you gotta, you gotta.
It's not that I (or others) "fear" what Liberals/Progressives have to say. It's a matter of being heard through the noise. The majority of Americans know practically nothing about politics that they don't hear on their local news. The people fighting over issues are what's left over, and they have to find ways to get their message out to the masses. The MSM and Hollywood are already inclined to defend the Left and attack the Right. When they are handed the opportunity (like with the Birthers), it damages the Right's (or just people who aren't Left) ability to make legitimate and common sense arguments that could sway public opinion. The Tea Party has a great format to air their grievances (ones that are widely shared), but we all saw how easily they were discredited to the majority of Americans by a hostile MSM. It's vastly more difficult to get your message out when 9 out of every 10 statements the public hears is negative.
The Birther thing has a legitimate point at it's core. Obama has gone out of his way to flaunt his disinterest in following the traditional methods of vetting (political, economic, and personal). However, they've gone from making that point to sounding more like OCD sufferers who can't accept the most logical argument, no matter who makes it. They are then used to make the point that people who oppose Captain Transparency have nefarious motives instead of real concerns about the direction of government. Even if the final score is a tie, the net result is positive for Obama because most of America doesn't get to hear a clear representation of the concerns. There's a reason why it's important to have a disciplined, easy to understand message. Having conspiracy theorists as a part of that message does nothing but make it more difficult to get it to the people it's intended for.
And as Breitbart pointed out, it's an issue that is already lost. Nobody likes the team who can't stop complaining about the officiating being bad after the game is over.
Had to recheck my link, thought I landed at Huffington. This was a cheap shot at WND. Low blow. I thought Breitbart was the real deal. Obviously got that wrong.
