Like some sort of hack zombie, former Wyoming senator Alan Simpson has stumbled back onto the political stage, basking again in the media limelight and sounding off after putting his name on President Obama’s debt commission’s liberal dream prescription – increasing both taxes and the size of government.
This raises an important question: Who the hell cares what Alan Simpson thinks? The answer is that the mainstream media cares, for now, because his dreary conventional wisdom is useful to them – for the moment.
Simpson’s return to prominence in the wake of the conservative – not GOP – victory in the recent mid-terms is a harbinger of what we will see much of in the next couple years as MSM-approved “reasonable” and “mature” Republicans are dug-up and held-up as role models while Republicans who actually pursue conservative goals are painted as raving lunatics one step away from climbing up the bell tower with a Remington.
The 79-year old maverick (“Maverick”: A Republican who enjoys the hosannas of the press that come from attacking fellow Republicans. Related Definition: “Sell Out”: A Democrat who worries about his party’s slide to the far left.) makes no bones about where his allegiance lies – with the kind of old-school, chummy, go-along, get-along Republicanism that got us into this mess in the first place.
Fortunately for us half-wits, he’s brave enough to face down our selfish, short-sighted attempts to interfere with his ability to implement his insights – and the media is only too happy to give this relic a soap box. That is, until the label “useful idiot” becomes only half true.
Jeremy Pelzer of the indispensible Casper Star-Tribune, positions Simpson in the maverick’s favorite posture, that of fearless truth teller willing to endure the nattering of the know-nothing nabobs in order to Do The Right Thing which, shockingly, always seems to be the liberal thing:
But as the co-chair of President Obama’s debt commission, the Wyoming Republican said he’s been taking an unprecedented amount of flak for the commission’s draft proposals to help erase the nation’s $13.8 trillion debt.
“I’ve never had any nastier mail or [been in a] more difficult position in my life,” said the 79-year-old Simpson. “Just vicious. People I’ve known, relatives [saying], “‘You son of a bitch. How could you do this?’”
Imagine those uppity voters, daring to express their displeasure with their Washington insider betters. Of course, Simpson is ready to pass judgment on those who presume to disagree with him and the other unelected and unaccountable twerps to whom the Administration sub-contracted the deficit crisis:
“We had the greatest generation — I think this is the greediest generation,” he said.
Ah, there’s nothing like MSM-supplied moral lectures about how the deficit problem is the result of our selfishness given by one of the very folks who voted for all the extra-Constitutional spending that created the problem. It’s like a guy gobbling a couple grapes in the produce section of a Safeway getting confronted by a morally outraged Bernie Madoff.
Thank goodness we have powerful truth-tellers like Simpson to show us the way:
However, Simpson said he’s loved taking on the challenge of cutting the debt and — as he said often during an interview Tuesday — through the b.s.
Of course, the thing that gets the MSM more excited than Lindsay Lohan on a two-week vacation in Medellin is Simpson’s lament about those awful, awful people who forcefully articulate their political views outside of mainstream channels:
All this hubbub isn’t a surprise to Simpson, given how politically polarized the country is these days.
“You don’t want to listen to the right and the left – the extremes,” he said. “You don’t want to listen to Keith Olbermann and Rush Babe [Limbaugh] and Rachel Minnow [sic] or whatever that is, and Glenn Beck. They’re entertainers. They couldn’t govern their way out of a paper sack — from the right or the left. But they get paid a lot of money from you and advertisers — thirty, fifty million a year — to work you over and get you juiced up with emotion, fear, guilt, and racism. Emotion, fear, guilt, and racism.
Is there some genetic reason that none of these people can construct a coherent sentence? “Rush Babe?” At least fellow out-to-pasture GOP establishment type Bob Dole’s bizarre tendency to speak about himself in the third person was amusing in a kind of post-modern way.
No, Simpson doesn’t want you to “listen to the right and the left – the extremes.” He wants you to listen to him and his pals in the mushy middle, and he wants you nobodies to stop presuming you know better than he and his cronies.
Note the reference to “governing,” the word that gives away the game. Simpson, and those like him, are establishment advocates of the status quo terrified by the notion that there are now power centers outside of the Senate meeting rooms where guys like him used to be able to make their deals without the burden and bother of accountability. Simpson’s problem with “Rush Babe” isn’t that Rush is too extreme; his problem is that Rush is someone who is neither him nor one of his establishment pals who has the ability to exercise power and influence. Conventional “conservative” politicians hate competition more than liberalism.
The fact that Sarah Palin even exists probably blows his mind, and there’s no doubt fellow maverick John McCain would never have picked her if it had ever occurred to him that she would so utterly overshadow him by holding firmly to a coherent conservative ideology.
Conservative ideology, of course, is the enemy of the mavericks – and the MSM as well, which is why they so frequently ally themselves. Conservative ideology is inflexible. It actually has, and acts upon, principles. This gets in the way of “governing,” the process of incremental compromise with and surrender to the liberals that inevitably, over time, pulls the country to the left.
In the meantime, Simpson just gives and gives:
Simpson said he’s spent about $25,000 of his own money on travel and hotel expenses on behalf of the debt commission — an expense he said he doesn’t mind paying.
And, although we Americans have failed to live up to his exacting standards, Simpson still knows that with his guidance and the wisdom of his fellow establishment types, the people will one day see the light:
Simpson might appear cynical about politics these days. But he said he hasn’t lost heart.
“I really believe that there are more patriots in America than selfish, selfish people,” he said.
The sad fact is that Simpson will get a few minutes in the MSM spotlight, enough time to trash the relevant GOP figures of today, and when he outlives his usefulness in about 14 minutes from now, the MSM is going to drop him back in the memory hole with Chuck Hegel, Lincoln Chaffee and the pre-nominee John McCain.
Then the MSM will find another putative Republican uneasy with the fact that power and attention are accumulating somewhere else. He (or she – Lisa Murkowski is already hopping down the maverick trail) will find that a few words of hostility about allies means lots and lots of favorable coverage. And Alan Simpson’s phone will stop ringing. Again.

As far as greed goes, there are none more greedy than politicians spurned by the voters, desperately, hypocritically, and cravenly seeking that one last totem of power or significance. WY no longer stands for Want You, Alan. Please graciously fade.
Senator Simpson…
Until you "fellas" address the costs related to the ObamaCare fiasco,
you're all, irrelevant, elitists hacks, just whistlin' Dixie…
How does an old politician know he's irrelevant ?
He's appointed to a commission.
"They couldn’t govern their way out of a paper sack — from the right or the left"
Neither could you Mr. Simpson, but you certainly could steal, lie and cheat your way out of one, as your past has shown.
“I’ve never had any nastier mail or [been in a] more difficult position in my life,” said the 79-year-old Simpson. “Just vicious. People I’ve known, relatives [saying], “‘You son of a bitch. How could you do this?’”
Familiarity breeds contempt, doesn't it Mr Simpson?
Seriously, I thought he was dead.
Damnit…….
Nothing to add. The articles says it all.
You got us here, Mr. Gateman. Now, go away again.
He wakes up while a page is wiping drool from his face.
I know I'm getting up there in age. But I'm ready for those Death Panels for guys like this, Soros and so many others.
I would prefer articles that take him on on the issues, he is an establishment RINO is close enough. Now what about cutting the mortgage, child and marriage taxes?? They seem unconstitutional to me, why should marriage get a tax credit or spawning a bunch of trophy kids.
We have to start cutting spending somewhere, SS age should be raised. Both medicare and SS should be means tested–although not constitutional either IMO. I am willing to raise my retirement age to 70 and I am already 56, I just want SS to be run by some kind of private group and for the IRS to be abolished for my trouble, that would be a good place to start.
When I first read this article, I took exception to it.
I learned a long time ago, when something makes me mad, I better take a step back and look at myself, and review my perspective. Years ago, I knew Alan Simpson, when he sat on the Senate Energy Committee. he treated me decently, and fairly. In looking at this article, the reason I took exception to it, was because of my own personal bias.
It makes no never mind how much I think of a person, nor how much I am entertained by their rural witticisms or countrified logical pontifications. In doing so, they tend to baffle simpletons like me with bullshit. The fact of the matter is, times change, and people change. Alan Simpson is no longer the Conservative Republican that my friends in Wyoming sent to the Senate. Alan Simpson has changed. Alan Simpson has been co-opted. Just like John McCain or Lindsay Graham and a whole host of others.
Yep. This article made me mad, because it made me stretch, and think.
I commend the author for a great article.
You couldn't have written a truer statement.
Sign up and support this necessary action, it is a required action by patriots everywhere. To borrow a phrase from G. Gordon Liddy, "the timing may not be better."

''A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus." Martin Luther King, Jr.
Old Al lives here in Cody wyoming. Whenever I cross paths with him, It takes all the will-power I have, to refrain from asking him what kind of moron he is. After the 2008 elections he and his brother cosponsered Chris (tingles) Matthews to come to the University of Wyoming and give a speech on the historic election of the one. He brags about what a great friends he and Ted Kennedy were. His son who is trying to be as big a RINO as his dad, ran for governor and finished fourth. His son's chances went to zero when old Al decided to help give Obama a cop out.
I was thinking, who would know the old crow better than his own family. S.O.B. sounds about right, but should, in his case, always be preceded by "You old dried-up…"
WOW!
Your comment speaks volumes about your intellectual honesty. That's awesome.
I put Alan Simpson in the same catagory as Homer Simpson, THEY are the puppets er entertainers…..
HAHAHAHAHA, that is spot on!
An honest reflection CL , I would like to think he changed or went senile, quite possibly he was a RINO all along.
Then if you know that, then you know that one of Simpson's best buds, and amigo's is Gerry Spence.
They go to their own little commune, for legal types, out in the hills. Kindly like an Eselan Institute for Hillbillies.
Thank you.
Comments like yours are always humbling.
I am sure you have heard Glenn Beck, quoting Thomas Jefferson's "Question with boldness…"
I have done that all my life.
In retrospect, he was a RINO, forever.
Maybe that is part of what made me mad.
I don't like being duped.
Dittos- except RINO's and elitists don't know the tune to Dixie.
Did Alan Simpson jump the shark or did the shark jump Alan Simpson? He used to have the wit, wisdom and common sense of a Western country boy. Then he went to Harvard….
Trent Lott pretty well made it clear that all "new" members needed to be co-oped. Hearing the sumbitch say that made me very angry.
I was raised in the west, lived there until I was 22, lived in three states, worked in 9 states and Canada .I was always enamored with the romance of freedom loving frontiersmen and women like my great grandparents, it made me proud. I spent many hours with my great grandfather (b.1878, d.1977) listening to how tough it was, how ugly Billy the Kid was, watching westerns while he grumbled "that's not how it was" and how they loved it. It is a crying shame what a liberal bastion it has become. You can never go home.
Spence of the Silkwood case?
Gerry Spence, lol!! another lawyer maggot that makes a lot of money losing cases. He always wins when he can influence the jury, but then loses on appeal. To understand Al, just observe who he makes freinds with.
Simpson must be running low on the Obama cash flow!
Yep.
Trent Lott has me stuttering and muttering to myself for several days.
You are right.
Someone wrote a book " You can't go home again".
You are absolutely correct about those old-timers.
I grew up, and was raised by a generation of Texans, who were one generation away from the frontier. When they grew up, a horse was the mode of transportation. They were one generation from Quanah Parker, and being scalped. I left Texas because of the foreigners. I have watched the same thing happen now in Montana.
I have lived long enough now, to know how those old Indians felt, and why they did the things they did. Sometimes, a guy just has to say "I'm not going to retreat one step further." When he makes that decision, it is time to drive a stake into the ground.
America, on a whole, is at that point.
Many folks will miss the meaning in the above statement.
Those who "get it", understand.
Yep.
Can you go into details about where Simpson wants to increase the size of government? Simpson referred to Social Security as "a milk cow with 310 million tits." So it's not at all clear that he's attacking the right anymore than the rest of the country. The Simpson-Bowles plan calls for an increased retirement age to receive Social Security benefits. The whole commission was a joke from the beginning. I think we can all agree that Rush has much more political influence than Olbermann or Maddow.
Quick sidenote: You spelled the last names of Chuck Hagel and Lincoln Chafee incorrectly.
Exactly correct.
Back in the early 90's, Spence represented a friend of mine, at a cost of seven figure.
Spence lost.
So did my friend.
The left may think this parade of rino's will help them, but I have a feeling it is going to add rocket fuel to the conservative agenda. Watching them prance across the stage in the limelight, reminds us of how many there have been. On top of that we get to re-experience their massive egos. All of this just validates and energizes the fight to clean them out. Senators in particular, seem most obnoxious. We need to take some of their power away.
American history is unique, the Europeans look down on us because of the short duration we have been here but they are wrong. The elder generations of us have the enviable honor of being 1st, 2nd or 3rd generations behind these pioneers and if they are truly fortunate as I was to have spent valuable time with them we gain first hand knowledge of their experiences. It was great.
You are right it is time to drive a stake and hobble the horses.
The "Greediest Generation" that was forced to pay taxes into a system that the socialists dreamed up. Wow, this old puke needs his face slapped.
They've all changed for the worse, to one degree or the other. With a constant barrage of PR, lies and BS from lobbyists, co-workers and the "inside the beltway" gang.
Marco Rubio, our new Senator Elect knows it well. He was FL House Speaker for 2 years and knows full well he went a bit to the dark side. He left politics for 2 years. And he made the most humble and titillating acceptance speech I've ever heard. He said towards the end (and I paraphrase) "Washington changes people. Please, PRAY for me. I will need your help." Still gives me chills.
America is still worth fighting for.
America has ALWAYS been worth fighting for.
The problem is, somewhere within the last generation or so, We, The People have been co-opted, as well as those representing US in DC. We have grown fat, dumb, and happy, with our material things, and our triple lattes, and our electronic junk gadgetry, all brought to US, courtesy of Bill Gates and the i-Pod thingey guy.
It is time to turn back to the basics; to what is important. Let the globalists sell their junk, substandard goods to China, India and Mexico.
I agree with him on the point that the old farts are greedy. I have paid and will continue to pay but have no expectation of future benefits. This is a welfare program and needs to be treated like one. If we want to drop it completely I'm game but I doubt everyone else is. So I'll stand with Simpson on his point, you baby boomers are the greediest generation. Any generation defined by birth control, abortion, mind altering drugs and an explosion of the size of the government needs to be set afloat on an ice raft from Palin's Alaska.
You're welcome, and you're totally deserving of the compliment.
I knew from a long while back that you don't talk a bunch of BS.
The economy is a disaster because Washington has been tinkering with it for 50 years. The Employment Act of 1946 can be seen as the turning point, when DC decided they were responsible for full employment.
Add to the mix the White House with their Council of Economic Advisors and you have a full-blown mess.
Then the Fed gets more power and more bold and they move the rates around.
Now we look around and the savings rate has gone negative and the overnight loan rate is ZERO and you have the true value of our money.
And the whole mess falls in the lap of the elites in Washington.
Obama can't fix it because he doesn't see the problem. He's a progressive and they want a bigger government and more entitlements with no understanding of how wealth is created.
There is no political answer to this mess.
Simpson reminds me of Jimmy Carter, and I cannot stand listening to either, as they are self centered and no longer relevant.
The left's idea of compromise, middle ground is having the executioner shoot you in the right eye instead of the left.
It's Republicans like Simpson that are responsible for the shape the country is in today.
Alan Simpson is trying to cut the deficit by reforming the socialist expansions of Socialist Security and Medicare and other government entitlements. Why does this author support the socialist spending and the deficits (which Simpson's plan would curb)? This author is firmly aligned with Talking Points Memo and the Huffington Post, in opposing a balanced budget at all costs.
Why don't you like Simpson? What parts of his plan do you disagree with?
By the way, this article doesn't actually mention why Simpson's plan is wrong. It simply quotes him pointing out that the excessive government spending is greedy.
Um, yeah, Simpson doesn't support Obamacare.
The voters who continued to vote for excessive government spending are pretty damn greedy. Why do voters often vote for politicians who bring them pork? And why do voters often oppose attempts to reform Social Security? (The 2005 attempt to reform SS was unpopular with a majority of the public.)
Actually, Simpson put out a detailed plan to cut the deficit. The national debt is $13 trillion, so this is an important issue.
Also, Simpson is exactly right to slam the extreme left for governing poorly. You disagree?
Exactly, this article has nothing to do with the issues.
Simpson is a patriot who released a plan to cut the deficit.
How exactly has Alan Simpson changed? He just released a plan to cut the deficit.
How are we suppose to take any debt commission seriously that dosen't even mention a brand new entitlement that we can't pay for as a possible cut?
Hint: Obamacare.
Don't lecture us about greed, Senator! During the time you were in office, Senator Simpson, how many surpluses did Congress run? How many times did you vote to increase the national Debt Limit?
Alan who? It seems like I heard of this twit loooong ago as a lib Republican. And we're looking to twits like this for answers? Forget it, pal, you're the reason why we have a mess!
Simpsons Plan does not balance the budget, or cut it. It just juggles figure from one category to another. Further and beyond that, it expands government.
Well Governor, why don't YOU start quoting from Simpson's Plan, and cite where he was right, as opposed to talking in blanket generalities.
EXACTLY!
CL
Finished "Empire of the Summer Moon"… Words alone cannot describe the caliber of men who really "Won the West"… The McKenzie tactics against nomadic fast moving tribes should be read by everyone going to A-stan…Esp the 'brass'…If you 'really' want to win, it must be 'take no prisoners', or don't bother…
I'm now reading a novel, that you may have read awhile back.."Term Limits" by Vince Flynn…It is tracking EXACTLY what is happening now, … the probability of violence and how it will happen…Very compelling…And it was written 14 years ago…
Great post, buddy…Stay warm up there…
Thanks Alan Simpson for being a real standup guy. Not You fool.
Thank you.
I am glad you enjoyed the book.
Can you see why I believe that book should be required reading at West Point? The only way to win at tribal warfare, is to understand your enemy. McKenzie did not at first, but he sure was a fast learner.
When you finish your novel, here is another new book I'd recommend "Madison and Jefferson". It is impressive.
Actually this article says that Simpson is "basking in the media limelight AGAIN," (capitalization mine, since I couldn't bold it) suggesting that he liked to do the same thing when he was a Senator, not that he changed.
And none of what the author criticizes him for is actually a bad thing. For example, this author criticized Simpson for saying that partisans like Keith Olbermann and Rachiel Maddow are spreading misinformation.
The author also criticized him for saying that government spending is greedy.
How exactly does it not cut the deficit by cutting $1.5 trillion from spending?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2010-11-1...
And how exactly does it expand government by cutting the size of the federal workforce?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2010-11-1...
Or expand government by reforming Socialist Security?
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/11/10/defici...
Still just as stupid as ever.
This man is progressive scum. He should burn in a pile of corpses like the rest of the marxists enablers.
HiPlains: all of Flynn's books (and I've got about 3 left to read) are extremely prescient. Memorial Day apparently had to be cleared through the Pentagon before publication. The man has sources and he gets it.
I downloaded Empire of the Summer Moon to my iBooks library but haven't started it yet, been caught up in the world of Mitch Rapp (who's not in Term Limits IIRC) and the McCullough bio of John Adams.
Maybe we should push Dana or one of the other editors to start a "CL Book Club".
Are you planning to answer CL's question, or are you just going to hop and skip along like you usually do, spewing half truths and idiotic platitudes?
Did. You. Read. The. Plan.? You've been asked, you've never answered, you just keep spinning.
Hmm…how about a pile of RINO corpses?
I don't care about Simpson is the point, the point is supposed to be to start a dialogue, well he did and someone has to.
This washed up politician should have stayed in WY….his generation is the one that voted for all these entitlement programs. When you are in a hole , Simpson, stop digging……
Do you want me to answer your question, too?
If you notice CL's response consists of a total of 4 lines, while my response consisted of 9 lines. Lets see who puts more attention to reading and responding…
Interesting. I just responded with 3 specific points about the plan, and you don't have anything to say about it, because you apparently don't know what's in the plan. Well, I just told you what's in the plan, and I cited specific links. If you have any disagreements with the points mentioned or with other points of the plan, mention them specifically and then we can discuss.
Ya. This ass clown makes sense. The greedy people just don't understand. How is it a person is greedy if they want to turn down what you offer, like the health care takeover? How is it a person is greedy if they want to means test before we hand out social security checks? How is it greedy that we want keep the tax cuts because we want to starve the beast that government has become? Why is it not greedy to get all the government entitlements? Why is it not a greedy politician when he is telling you he is going to take more of your money to pay for stuff he wants? Something he didn't pay for and will probably exempt himself from?
Tony…You will love that book..(."Empire"…)..CL book club is available now…Just read what he talks about…Beats the shit out of Oprah's book club..Enjoy..
Actually that is a lie. They talk about raising the amount they give to life time low earners. They want to cut military budgets, and increase domestic spending. They want the doctors to charge less for their services. You should read the recommendations. Very little is cut in domestic spending entitlements, on the contrary they are only going to limit the rise of the spending. They cut the military to almost half and they cut deductions for tax payers concerning medical spending. Check it out, its in the draft. They actually cut the deduction for a persons medical spending. They actually suggest raising the minimum social security amount paid to low earners and the recommend an increase in medicare benefits. So essentially nothing you said is true. At least according to the draft of the Debt Commission Ass clown committee.
1.) They plan on cutting $1.5 trillion – http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2010-11-1...
2.) For Socialist Security, they would raise the retirement age and index benefits to inflation for less increase – http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2010-11-1...
You are correct to note that they also cut the subsidies given away for health insurance. That's another socialist entitlement, and it increases healthcare cost. I assume you know about free markets? If you or your employer gets to write off all their health insurance benefits as income that is not taxed, then that creates an incentive to overspend on health insurance, thus it distorts the markets and artificially raises demand and raises prices.
Alan Simpson is a pathetic, wanna-be , political, aging-'hipster' desperately seeking relevance with the (he thinks) 'people who count' . That his opinions are taken 'seriously' by anyone is just amazing to me.
He ,Bowles, and their supporters should just ' get a room' and leave the rest of us ALONE!
BTW….take Senators McCain and Graham with you
one of your best ever – keep up the great work
50 years in politics is 49 years too much for Simpson. Should have been Business Leaders on the Debt Panel and not ONE POLITICIAN…..Thier Answer is ALWAYS the same: If you owe 14 Trillion just tax 14Trillion More and stop Services to the American People. Why do you think Democrat controlled Cities are all DEAD ??
obama's Health Control does not apply to the Ruling Classes, only we SUBJECTS of obama's fiefdom….
When General McCrystal presented his plan for VICTORY in Afganistan obama was not interested in winning and rejected the plan. Why are our Troops still dying ??????
Change the retirement age to 100 years old..Social Security Problem SOLVED…….That's what they have been doing a couple years at a time. I believe the new retirement age is now 67 ?
I don't disagree with much of the commission's findings but to have one of its co-chairs insult the people that must make the sacrifices is intolerable. I am tired of his everyman language and his govern from the middle crap. If we do that then we will never get out of the hole we are in now. Just like Orrin Hatch and Richard Lugar they have been in the middle for so long that they cannot see their starting point of conservatism. His desire for both parties to work together and not listen to the left or right extremes is like a crowd on a burning airplane with half wanting to fight the fire and the other half wanting to bail out. If you compromise you stay in your seats and die!
I added essentially this same comment on a Hot Air post on Dick Lugar. When the left trots out "help" for Conservatives and touts some Republican as a find example of a "reasonable" conservative, watch out. That is a sign the "reasonable" conservative has taken a stance Democrats like. All advice from the left designed to "help" conservatives should not be taken with a "grain of salt". It should be rejected out of hand.
I dislike being insulted by a so called "moderate" who gave away the store and called it compromise. The type of conservative who the MSM loves for their nasty habit of bashing their own base.
How'd that moonbeam thing work for ya?
Still getting California laughed at?
Ya. How about quit quoting a talking points memo from USA Today and you actually read the draft of the report. Those news articles are lying as well. Secondly, how is letting the tax payer spend as he sees fit socialist? Seriously you can't be making that argument.
Currently, you get to deduct health care charges that are above 7.5% of your income. So if you make 48,000 a year you get to start your medical deductions on the amount over 3600 dollars a year. What you are arguing is that allowing a person to deduct that 3600 dollars is somehow going to be socialist?
As far as a free market approach, how about a free market? Allow people to cross state lines to get health insurance? But to call a tax break for medical cost a socialist entitlement is to assume that your pay check is owned in its entirty by the government and anything that the government allows you to keep is an entitlement. What drival. The company still has to pay if it pays for health insurance so what is the incentive to spend more? It cuts into profits so you don't have to pay more tax? Great plan. Hey why not raise the interest rate on my home so I can deduct more on my taxes? Same stupid idea.
You never mentioned the tax increases..
why not?
You know damn well the left will never allow Social Security to be fixed. You also know that they are proposing the 1.5 trillion dollar cuts stretched out over a decade.. When the government leaped from 500 billion a year deficits to 2 trillion in a year. That damn well can cut faster and they also can greatly increase revenue…
by cutting capital gains and corparate tax rates.
that always increases revenue every time it's tried, even Clinton knew that.
but the lefts mantra is always the same.. kill the rich… unless of course they contribute to democrats, then they provide big fat loopholes to fall through.
Here is the Debt Committee Draft instead of your spoon feed democrat party talking points. Page 36 is about limiting the growth of medicare, not lowering the cost. The sum total of the advice, pay doctors less. Maybe reform law suits. Gee. What a deal. Page 38, use the civil service highest 5 years of pay to figure the retirement. This is exactly how we got screwed by the union thugs. They do massive over time for the last 5 years and score a huge retirement. Granted union thugs only have to do it for 3. How does that help the debt? Page 43, raise the minimum paid by social security? How the hell does that reduce the debt? It is a national socialist democrat party wet dream of an entitlement. Page 50 tax employer funded health care, socialist drival as a way to get to socialist single payer.
Sadly, I know this. Just dreaming.
Nicely said! Beware of ANY slef-described 'helpful' 'Moderate'.
If you look into it, doesnt much of the pork go back to the supports of those politicians such as unions and special interest groups.
As for Social Security, that has been long ingrained in our system and those who have it dont want to loose it. Best way for Social Security to go would be to slowly phase it out by keeping those that need it on it and as Social Security shrinks more then more people would go into a private more controlled form of savings by them. We just have to phase out the worthless money pit Social Security is along with Medicare/Medicaid and other entitlement programs.
We are the greediest generation, but Mr. Simpson and his ilk, don't mind taking pensions for life, should they only serve one term in Congress. And, how many of our esteemed Senators and Congressmen end up as millionaires after serving in the government. Don 't throw stones in your glass house Mr. Simpson.
Do not concern yourself for these peoples fate for rest assured they will have an eternity to think about what they have done.
You make an inspiring comment.
As a resident of WY, I can tell you that Alan Simpson does not have much of a reputation in this state. When he "retired" from politics, it was because the polls showed him getting trounced. He was always an elitist who felt entitled to things he wanted to deny to his constituents. Nothing in his report surprises me, from raising taxes to reducing benefits, but I bet there is an exemption in his report for his ilk. Alan, Go Away And Good Riddance!
Don't fish much do you?
Too much, too little , too late is their plan.
As long as it is a union shooter that is.
Thank you, sincerely.
anyone can linksurf. did you read the plan?
