Texas Ranches Seized by Los Zetas Drug Cartel. Over the weekend this story caught fire in the blogosphere. One big reason the story went viral was that it fit the highly-believable narrative of violence spilling across a porous southern U.S. border.
As it stands, the story has neither been disproved or confirmed–although there’s disagreement on that point. Here’s a few reasons readers might want to keep an open mind.

Starting as a post on a blog dealing primarily with illegal immigration, Digger’s Realm, the story, BREAKING: Multiple Ranches In Laredo, TX Taken Over By Los Zetas [Update 3], began with a late Friday night tip.
Founder of the San Diego Minutemen Jeff Schwilk tipped me off to this story and passes along the following information on the location. The ranches are said to be “near Mines Rd. and Minerales Annex Rd about 10 miles NW of I-35″.
Statement from Mr. Schwilk:
I can personally vouch that this info came in late last night from a reliable police source inside the Laredo PD. There is currently a standoff between the unknown size Zeta forces and U.S. Border Patrol and local law enforcement on two ranches on our side of the Rio Grande. The source tells us he considers this an “act of war” and that the military is needed on the border now!
Digger added a “story is not 100% confirmed” to his article and posted it, but continued to work the story throughout the night.
First, let me clarify that I was also skeptical of the story when I initially heard word. It is certainly not because there haven’t been armed intrusions into the United States before from Mexico. There have been a ton in the last decade, but there have not been any where they would hold onto a position. They usually leave after a standoff or upon discovery…
I put out my feelers throughout the night to try and collect information and other credible sources to confirm the occupation of ranches in Laredo. I did not receive actual confirmation until this morning when I got word that Kimberly Dvorak of the Examiner had made multiple confirmations within the Laredo Police Department. Up until this point the story had not spread wide. There was no reason for the Laredo Police Department to crack down hard and keep things truly blacked out as there was no heavy interest from media.
At this point, things “took off” as more blogs jumped on the story; a few, myself included, worked the phones, contacting area police and other locals who might possibly confirm the story.
Local law enforcement were not saying much–but they were not denying it either. The policeman I spoke to alternated “I can’t confirm” with “I can’t say anything” for his answers. When asked if the “Webb County Sheriff was taking the lead on this,” the Laredo spokesman answered, “Yeah, and they can’t confirm anything either.”
Which makes those with suspicious minds wonder: why does someone take the lead on an event that’s not happened? Perhaps the spokesman misspoke?

That local police were not confirming the story is hardly surprising: if Los Zetas, a particularly lethal paramilitary outfit, had seized a ranch, it’s not hard to see why authorities wouldn’t want curious civilians or the press in the area.
The Laredo Morning Times weighed in with a piece late in the afternoon:
But Investigator Jose E. Baeza, LPD spokesman, said he had not heard anything about the incident. Also, an LPD sergeant, who was on duty as a watch commander Saturday afternoon, said she had not heard anything about it either.
At about 4:30 p.m., Maru De La Paz, spokeswoman for Webb County Sheriff’s Office, wrote that the report about Zetas taking over ranches in Laredo is not confirmed.
Again, the curious among us might wonder why, 24 hours into a hoax, the police couldn’t give a flat-out denial? Despite reports of many press inquiries, why hasn’t law enforcement issued a written, formal denial–and why had so many on the force not heard about it?
Although law enforcement offered a variety of answers, none were denials. Nevertheless, this story was soon offered as “proof” that the Laredo Morning Times had refuted the claims.”
In addition, a virtual war between the Mexican military and Los Zetas was taking place this weekend across the river in Nuevo Laredo, with the city and American citizens both in lockdown. Pitched battles featuring automatic weapon and fragmentation grenades were fought in the barricaded streets of Nuevo Laredo.
Which leads those with a knowledge of history to recall that one time-honored tactic of insurgents everywhere is to locate near a border: the better to dash across when the action gets too hot on one side.
Despite the many “can’t-confirms,” some demanded confirmation within hours–or were ready to pronounce the story a “hoax.” One proof offered: that Minerales Annex Road didn’t exist on Google Maps. Which is correct. However, it does appear on Bing. This created some confusion of confirming the location. The original blog post featured a Google map, with the location of the alleged ranch takeover several miles away from where Bing placed it.
One meme which started on the left and later picked up by commentators on the right was the familiar, “If this were happening, the MSM and local press would be covering it.”

Falcon Dam
In May 2010, an extraordinary event happened not far from Laredo — and not one word was reported by any media, local or MSM, for weeks. Eventually, on June 2, the Houston Chronicle broke the silence.
An alleged plot by a Mexican drug cartel to blow up a dam along the Texas border — and unleash billions of gallons of water into a region with millions of civilians — sent American police, federal agents and disaster officials secretly scrambling last month to thwart such an attack, authorities confirmed Wednesday…
A border law enforcement official told the Chronicle the warnings originated in part by the seizure of small amounts of dynamite near the dam, and the discovery of a copy of the alert on the Mexican side of the border.
The Chronicle went on to report that U.S. authorities were tipped off when Los Zetas warned residents on the Mexican side “to get out… using handbills and bullhorns.” Residents who lived on the U.S. side of the border received no such warnings.
What conclusion can we draw from this? Here’s one.
That the best source of news and information as the story unfolded came not from the local press, the local authorities, or the national mainstream media: It came from a Mexican drug cartel.
Despite a small army of federal and local law enforcement who “swarmed” the area around the dam, no local media, authorities or MSM reported the incident until the June 2 Chronicle story.
Other stories that apparently aren’t ready for the MSM prime-time: the hundreds of incursions by the Mexican military into the United States during the last decade; and, the hundreds of violent assaults on U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents since 2007.
The incident at Falcon Dam is only one of many stories on the southern border which fly under the radar of both the local and national media.
It is also the primary reason that a rush to judgment on the ‘Los Zetas Seize Texas Ranches’ story seems unwarranted at this time.

I am amazed that with all this action down there on the border, that the "open border" morons still persist.
The country is deMANding that the government secure the border, and Obama et. al. say, like, Violence, what violence?
Just HOW much of this doody does the country have to eat before there is some action?
So let me get this straight, foreign nationals in the shape of a Mexican drug cartel have crossed the border (gee, how'd they do that??) and forcefully occupied 2 ranches on American soil. Is that what's going on supposedly? Did they get their Democrat voter's registration cards on the way in?
If this is the case, why aren't the military wiping them from the face of the earth with an A-10 Warthog??
The plan is for us to eat this shit and die as a country…..
I'd prefer an AC 130…..
Can't send in the A-10, I mean what about the tiny ants that would be hurt. Think of the enviornment dude. And lets not forget the damage that the spent ammo would have on the poor children who would be forced to cross the border to collect the debris to sell to a junkyard. Nope, as any true envioroterrorist will tell you, better to lose the country then destroy the enviornment. Besides everyone knows the Mexicans are such HUGE envioro lovers.
LMAO (Scary part, I can see an enviorowhako making these arguments with a straight face)
This story is a hoax! People on the ground there looked and nothing is going on! I've even spoken to the Garza family (the one's whose ranches were allegedly seized) and they say it is a hoax.
I just got off the phone with the PIO with Laredo's PD. He flatly denied that it being true. He even invited me down there to go out and see for myself that nothing is going on. That does not sound like a cover-up to me.
Please, tell all of the boards and contacts who are spreading this story that it is totally false.
As time goes by we will see more and more HONEST reporting such as this article. It niether confirms nor denys the situation at the ranch. It does, however, expand the story to include details about KNOWN incursions onto American soil in the past and attacks on our border patrol. This is the factual reporting that we need to make our own decisions.
I'm not sure how this fits in with the time-line in your article, but this was in the San Antonio Express this morning :http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/state/officials_dispute_reports_of_ranch_takeover_by_zetas_99211144.html
Hey I loves me the AC-130 Spooky, but there's nothing like that big ugly with a GAU-8 Avenger cannon sticking out of it's mouth spitting 30mm "get the eff outta my yard" at ya….
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/a-10-...
Thanks for your info. Just remember that this story takes no position other than to point out that not all the facts are in. If the "story" turns out to be a hoax, don't blame the messanger, blame those that perpetrated the hoax. Will you do that?
BTW- What is the name of the PIO? I'd love to confirm. Thanks.
Same here…
Hey! I just got an idea. Let's invite the enviroterrorists to sit in front of one of the 2 ranches a couple minutes before the A-10 flies by!?!
That's good news it's a hoax. thanks for the update!
Your link isn't working
"Did they get their Democrat voter's registration cards on the way in?" Of course and signed up for all Entitlements including PIGFORD too!
And since they're running out of time, they're getting desperate. The cracks are showing and if it wasn't such a dangerous situation, it would be down right comical to watch.
True that…
How about the enviro-friendly sub-sonic .22 round administered up close and personal? Nothing to clean up until the trash bio-degrades.
This is just one element of their 'perfect storm'…….
Mondo Frazier,
Well why don't you get off your a$$ and fly down there and let us know. Stop with this maybe it is true sh!t and prove the story out. Be a journalist do some leg work man. You can read a map easy enough knock on the door of the ranches in the area and if they do not kill you you will know the story is false. If they shoot at you before you get to the ranch you then have a story.
an 'H' model with the 105 in the nose…
Needed one once. ALMOST felt sorry for the poor bastards it reached out and 'touched'…
Now isn't in Big Hollywood's turn to confirm it?
beware the stories coming out of this region…
The MSM will launch their own 'Shrley Sharrod' piece as soon as they get it. Some mistaken identity thing which paints either the milita, or the Border Patrol as racist thugs. Preferably both parties, too.
It's coming; it's just a matter of when, not if…
Why is Big Peace still humping this dead horse?
If the Los Zetas story is true, then I say, take no prisoners!
Must be a false story since the Obama admin says the border has never been more secure. They would never lie to us would they?
/sarc/
never got to see one in action, but I remember the first time I saw a Cobra piss fire from the sky, and the sound….like a pipe organ….
GPM,
I watched this story evolve and devolve all weekend and remain skeptical since all claims UNTIL YOUR POST cite the same "unamed" sources, issuing the same "non-denial denials or non-confirmational confirmations, which leaves those of us who know what PROOF LOOKS LIKE exactly where we started. Nowhere.
A SUGGESTION, GPM,
Call the Garza family back (btw how did you find out it was their ranches supposedly under seige?) and ask if they are willing to go ON THE RECORD via email or phone call to Mr B, with a confirmation or denial.
Call the LPD PIO back and ask if he is willing to go ON THE RECORD via email to Mr B, with a confirmation or denial?
Can't imagine why either would be unwilling. And I can't imagine Mr B would decline putting these emails or phone transcripts up………. in the interest of due diligence an accountable journalism.
This ain't rocket science, folks.
Great questions raised by the post claiming they know it is a hoax.
Where did the name Garza come from – what news story ??? – what source ???
What was the name of the Public Information Officer that made the flat statement – they are public information officers and always work on the record – so why was the name, date and time not included in the post claiming it has been confirmed as a hoax by a public information office.
Information is useful only if it can be verified – so provide some details so it can be confirmed by an independent source that the story was a hoax.

Pedrom,
I couldn't link off this site but did reach the story from a search engine so I just snagged the article.

LAREDO — Local law enforcement was bombarded with calls from across the country Saturday asking about a report that the Zetas had taken over two ranches off Mines Road.
But officials with the Laredo Police Department, Webb County Sheriff's Department and Border Patrol said they knew nothing about such an incident, while Erik Vasys, an FBI spokesman in San Antonio, said the agency does not comment on rumors.
“The public would be the first to know if anything was going on,” said Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar on Sunday afternoon. “Our deputies went out there and talked to ranch owners in the area and found nothing.”
The report that the Zetas, the Gulf Cartel's former enforcers, had taken over two Laredo ranches appeared to have initially surfaced around 10 a.m. Saturday on the blog Diggers Realm.
The report then spread like wildfire among blogs and social networking sites throughout the day. A Webb County Sheriff's official said the department was even having difficulty functioning because of the volume of calls they were receiving because of the report.
The Diggers Realm blogger stated that he received a tip from a San Diego Minuteman named Jeff Schwilk, who said the Zetas had crossed into the United States and taken over two ranches off Mines Road, about 10 miles northwest of Interstate 35.
Quoting Schwilk, the blogger wrote of a standoff between “the unknown size Zeta forces and the U.S. Border Patrol and local law enforcement on two ranches.”
The blogger wrote that the story was confirmed by anonymous Laredo Police Department sources.
Late Saturday, no law enforcement activity was visible along Mines Road from I-35 to Las Penitas subdivision.
Laredo Morning Times Staff Writer Denise Blaz contributed to this report.
thx
Thanks. It's still on http://www.mysanantonio.com
Did you mean to post this reply to GPM? If so, good luck getting an answer. Hit and run troll, I think.
Hey, TS. I just wanted to give you a thumbs up for the statement, " ….those of us who know what PROOF LOOKS LIKE…". Hard to believe that there are some out there that don't!
In Texas, we consider any expended ordnance fertilizer. It's like Miracle Grow for freedom!
our wonderful live fire training exercise in Grenada…
'Urgent Fury' as it was called. Talked to one of the pilots later. they said when the howitzer- the 105- went off it would knock the plane off it's course. Top once told us about Puff, the old C-47 with quad .50 mounts and a couple of .20mm chain guns.
Said he saw peasants planting rice the next day where the fire went down…
The open border morons persist because we are being lied to by omission by the MSM. If the truth were being told, the open border goons would not get any traction.
There's also too much drug money involved for a lot of it not to be going to politicians on our side of the border too.
.
LOL, Oregon,
There are, according to one poll, still 8% of the public who believe Elvis is alive. Call me a cynic, but I'm not holdin out a whole lotta hope for more nuanced matters.
But I heartily invite those convinced there has been an armed invasion of Texas to come on down, drive right out into that desert. And don't worry!, Unnamed sources in the Laredo PD confirmed there's plenty of gas stations and Quik Martz out there. No need to stock up.
))))))))))
But carry a beeper with ur address on it………..so we'll know where to ship the bones.
How about a "Big Let's Get Our Stories Straight"? It is…it isn't…it might be. When does Big Hollywood get a turn, and what will they say about it?
Fact is, it might be true, it might now. No one can confirm or deny. So why are we rehashing it again?
Proof. Ha. I'd settle for a plausible sounding story at this point. Heck, we've had yes, we've had no, this is I guess the maybe…after this is there another bowl of porridge or do we just start checking out the softness of the beds?
Sure thing–soon as I receive your check for plane fare. Good points; unfortunately, I don't have plane fare for every story I report.
Sorry to disappoint.

Both away or on answering machine. Left messages for both to return my calls. Said I was looking for a bit more confirmation and information on the Laredo story. We shall see if they call back.
i live on 45 acres just down the mines rd from los minerales annex where all of this is said to have taken place. i was home friday night and all weekend. from here i can usually hear the 'cuerno de chivos' and the grenade explosions on the other side because the nuevo laredo airport is somewhat on the trajectory from my US vantage point. from my view the line of trees cover the river but from my hills i can can see all the ranches and houses
where this is said to have occured but i saw nothing at all.
i would have heard gunshots– especially big caliber guns. from here i can even here small caliber 22's out of that area but there was nothing at night. saturday night when i went out to get groceries a sherriff came up close behind me for about 3 minutes on the mines road– there were about 3 or 4 sherriff vehicles out and about 8 or 9 border patrol vehicles. on saturday morning i took a drive out to los minerales and everything was normal.. i saw the border patrol helicopter along the river pass by like it does all the time and closer to my place just a couple of border patrol vehicles during the day driving by along the jeep trails by the house.
i have been out here all this time. this whole thing is a hoax. im hearing here locally that it all started when a city councilman did an interview on thursday with a mexican blogger and he told him that two ranchers with land along the river had gotten into an argument, and also that the violence in nuevo laredo had become very very bad lately- this is true.. whatever you do do not cross the border thru laredo right now.
then drive.
Chase the story, verify the facts ON SCENE, or hand it off to someone who can.
It's what reporters DO.
I think they called her Puff because the Minigun tracers looked like dragons breath.
I'm waiting for Big Journalism to demand a correction from Big Peace.
What is wrong with the Brietbart Bigs this week? Are the adults all on vacation or just on talk shows?
As a commenter over at Big Peace points out:
"Here' is hoping the one's who over hyped and sensationalized this false story hoax will end up with egg on their faces and disgraced by the conservative and the teaparty. I hope that Breitbart also see's the kind of people he does not want posting on his sites. This story/blog post should have a retraction, an apology and a full admission of all people involved in throwing this crap around.
Who on earth relies on a huffpo wanna be website like the examiner to base as a credible source anyway? I do not plan to ever take this sun tzu seriously ever again. Which probably means he/she will only change his/her name. "
There more at
http://bigpeace.com/stzu/2010/07/24/breaking-news...
And now, Big Peace's SunTzu is pointing at this piece on Big Journalism as some sort of "verification"???
How this fer plausible:
In any Mexican border state on any given day there's some shit happenin somewhere that's guaranteed illegal, probably violent, and could quite easily, in the vast open ranch lands of the SW desert spill back and forth across the border on a routine basis. And ain't NOTHIN LIKELY TO CHANGE THAT.
And that's the truth…..pfluggggggggggggg!
citation/source
cuz I say so!
)))))))))))
yep- plus it was a tweak at famous Communists Peter Paul and Mary- and believe us, they HATED the fact that badass C-47 had the same name as their fairy tale song. Top use to chuckle about that as well…
Ahhhh……the Cobra…..
Well ask Andrew for the money if it is a story. I would buy you a pre paid ticket for you if I thought this story had legs. I just think this story is 99% probability of being a BS. This is a story of a lifetime if true, you know how much fame you would have if you prove this out, you could turn it into a book deal. You would be picked up by every major news outlet.
"..don't worry!, Unnamed sources in the Laredo PD confirmed there's plenty of gas stations and Quik Martz out there. No need to stock up."
Now, I've got to go get a paper towel…
You have to be alive to write a book.
While I find your posts mostly juvenile, I do agree that Sun Tzu damages his credibility when he posts without disclaimer or caveat and/or uses another Big site that offers no actual substantiation to corroborate the story. He, at least, has lost some credibility with me. He posted an open thread today and I'll admit I was skeptical.
So, since you find this episode to be so abhorrent that you've lost all faith in the Bigs (as if you had any in the first place) will you tell us whether or not you've lost faith in Newsweek for their fake 'Koran in the toilet' story? Or the AP for their multiple instances of photoshopping images to suit their narrative? How about the Washington Post for continuing to run known prevaricator, Dana Milbank, on its front page. Or the "journalists" admitting to being engaged in framing a narrative to keep damaging information about Democrats under the rug on Journo-list? Have they lost credibility with you? When they have then you can have your high horse back.
Amen, brother!
ewwwww
Have Mercy, child! That's a picture I didn't need in mah hed!
bwahahahahahahahaha
TS: 'The public would be the first to know if anything was going on,” said Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar on Sunday afternoon. “Our deputies went out there and talked to ranch owners in the area and found nothing.”'
I have no idea if this particular Laredo story is true or untrue, but I have watched enough classic crime dramas over the years, to know:
It's a good bet that if someone answering a door has a gun pointed at them or someone they love, they're gonna say exactly what they've been told to say!
These ranches can't just grow feet and re-locate. The criminals know where the border ranchers live. They don't even have to be in the vicinity to threaten these people's lives – at any time. The people know if they "talk" or cause too much trouble, they will probably stop breathing pretty soon – in a gruesome way.
Sorta like the Arizona rancher who was killed on his own ranch for calling the Border Patrol to intercept drug smugglers. HIs only good fortune was to be killed quickly by a sniper, as opposed to their normal methods.
Folks, if you follow the real news at all, you're bound to know that the Middle Eastern terrorists are co-mingling with the Cartels. They're learning from each other. It didn't use to be commonplace that bags of heads were dropped off on the courthouse steps in Mexico. Or that politicians, who wouldn't cooperate, were hung from the bridges. Or that people's faces were cut off and stitched to soccer balls, left in the street. That's really gruesome, but it really happens these days. It's been happening in the Middle East forever. You've seen the news reports and terrible videos.
If this country doesn't start defending itself, and voting out the politicians, of all parties, who are perfectly willing, and even complicit, to stand by and watch – for their own political and personal gain – then expect to start reading these accounts in your local newspaper.
By then, without a major, unified military action, just about everybody will be afraid to speak out or act, because they know what will happen to them and their families. Just like in the Middle East.
Yeh buddy…..like you say…
YOU GO GUY….we're all riiiight behind you. We're just gonna stop off at Walmart fur supplies and catch u up.
pssssssssssssssssst…..git the dam car, dude, we are SO outta here.
Seriously Jackson, google Los Zetas, K? Just cause they didn't invade Laredo don't make'em Martha Stewart. They are one of the most violent gangs in the US and I don't mean two miles across the border, dude. I mean in the whole frikkin US. And the make Crips and Bloods look like little school girls.
TS, I tried to reply to one of your other comments – again, and couldn't. Did it below as a comment.
I'm getting fairly sick of all the problems that have been going on of late with trying to reply and being unable to, pages of comments disappearing, links not working so that you can make replies without having to open every single reply on the pages, etc.
Sorry there, Partner, lolol…..couldn't resist.
must remember to post "no beverage" warnings, lol!
This is Texas, folks. If there's anything to this story, I assure you that Governor Perry and the Texas Department of Public Safety, as well as the appropriate Webb County authorities, would be all over it.
Good point, you could follow from a distance and watch with binoculars, take TexasStomp with you for backup and you can write the book. But then again you would have to calculate the probability of this being true and see if it was worth the investment.
I know alot of bad things are happening at the boarder, I just don't think this is one of them. But I am just a dumb a$$ commenter on a blog.
So Mondo don't take offense to what I have to say, you have a great web site full of weird stuff and some of it is true.
http://deathby1000papercuts.com/
I would love it if you'd go on record with a blog (including photos — w/today's newspaper in the image so there's no dispute) so this can all be put to bed. I don't see why officials aren't just saying, "no, not true" and they're relying on anonymous sources to make the statements they should be making. Sometimes I wonder if they deliberately allow these stories to get out of hand to mask other things that are going on.
In any case, your vantage point would give valuable information. As well it would be nice to get a first hand accounting of life on the border. Please consider a blog of your own. It's free on blogger and Word Press, too.
may already have…..just not this place, this way, on this day….least not till someone goes on record with PROOF.
You remember PROOF….Film, photos, like wakko, Ruby Ridge, gunfights on US soil between law enforcement and whoever…live footage….with sound, explosions, an sheaaatt.
Yeh this type thing has happened and will again. And when it DOES I guarandamtee you some journalist with a camera and cahones WILL cover it, no matter WHAT his journOlista buddies want or don't want.
IT'S PULITZER MATERIAL!
"So why are we rehashing it again? "
========================
Hang on, I've got this on.
ummm…it's too windy to ski and we're outta peanut butter?
Good point, How about you back him up your close by, maybe TexasStomp could back you up. Triple redundancy let the cops know in case there is a problem.
Mondo has a great website with many accurate stories he may be on to something. http://deathby1000papercuts.com/
Thanks for that, betoMora.
And you would be?
Sorry, I really mean no insult, sincerely, but your profile is not filed out, so for all we know you could be a bored 13 year old school kid from Del Rio. Got any way to prove what you are posting?
Links to pictures of your ranch
pictures of the geographic coordinates mentioned in the story?
Pictures of Nuevo Laredo taken with a time stamp today?
Again, this isn't personal. This is just me askin you to prove what you're tellin us. I believe what you typed cause I'm NOT buyin this story. But sayin so isn't proof, from you or me.
I'm in Tucson so I can't verify ANYTHING except to say Los Zetas have NOT, REPEAT NOT taken over my neighbor's house. Least not the front yard, cause that's all I can actually see….or their driveway.
See what I mean? Proof is not just typed words.
Gerald Vanderleun,
How about first demanding a correction for all of the comments you posted over the weekend labeling the story false because you couldn't locate "Minerales Annex Road" on Google Maps?
Such as this comment: vanderleun July 24, 2010
"Let’s look at one widely verifiable fact:
Google map the location the source claims the incident happened at.
The is NO “Minerales Annex Road” in or near Laredo TX. There’s a Mines Road there but nothing else I can see."
I have seen no instances in which you went back to the many, many sites where you dropped this comment and posted a correction.
Maybe you were on vacation–or on a talk show?
I totally agree with the author. So much of insane stuff happening on the border has been covered up by the media, that not hearing anything isn't proof of anything. Someone down in Laredo is going to have to take some photos and post them. Otherwise we won't hear anything ever. Remember when moments after taking down the Ft Hood shooter the FBI or Homeland Security bureaucrat announced it wasn't an act of terror without any evidence. The government and media work to keep everything hidden. Maybe for different reasons but same result. Some brave soul down there will have to snap a few kodak moments of FBI or Police at these supposed Zeta standoffs. We need the truth and no in the media or government is going to give it to us. Just be safe.
I'm not saying this story was anything other than an attempt to discredit conservative news sites, websites, and bloggers.
I'm not saying this story was anything other than an attempt to seize total control over cable, internet, print, and airwaves.
However, there are many, many more stories that have been proven to be true, that show our Southern Border is leaking like a sieve, and allowing very dangerous people to enter the U.S. almost at will. And that our elected officials refuse to do anything about it.
I would also like to add the following question:
Other than weather-related emergencies, when is the last time you heard anyone in any branch of government advise, "Panic.. PANIC NOW!"
In defense of Gerard, one might say that we automatically hold the Bigs to a hugely higher standard than any of those people you mentioned. It's one of the reasons we're here (mostly…anyway, right?).
I heard that Governor Perry was going to be on Greta on Fox News tonight. Haven't confirmed that yet.
Hope it's more than re-election stuff.
Those are certainly valid reasons!
Perry? Umm…okay. There's not an election coming up, so why would he care?
betoMora, if we knew that you were not simply "putting out a Cartel fire," that would be heartening.
Personally, I hope you are the small rancher you purport to be, who is endangering him/herself to tell us what you saw, but it would indeed be dangerous to write that you can see Laredo border goings-on from your ranch.
However, the fact that you have just identified where your ranch is located, makes me more than a little skeptical.
If I am wrong, I sincerely apologize in advance, congratulate you on your courage, and advise you to be very careful.
Ummmm, yeah, there is an election coming up, Tony_Costine!
The election to decide who is Governor of Texas – one of the largest economies in the WORLD!
Perry is not perfect, but he is so much better than the Uber-Liberal running against him, that it defies description!
The Marxists are pulling out all the stops and sparing no expense to try to turn Texas Democrat, by hook or crook!
I don't know about Gerard, but I agree and I was serious when I said Sun Tzu's lost credibility. But, I've taken the Bigs to task for unsubstantiated articles before (had a bunch of down-dings to show for it too), so I know when to take things with a grain of salt anyway.
Still, even this story that seems very "off" doesn't sink to the level of my examples above. I don't completely trust any news organization, but often those who decide based on pile-on talking points that the Bigs have lost all credibility, tend to give the left side of the msm a free pass with outright dishonesty.
Tex,
I don't know where you are but our friends, ranchers out of Marathon, Marfa, Big Bend, Lajitas and Terlingua are NOT THE LEAST BIT afraid to speak out, and will NOT HESITATE to shoot first, ask questions later, defend their property, their herds, and their lives. They BLOW UP tunnels when they find them, they return fire when shot at, and they have NO PROBLEM with borders when they're in pursuit.
One friend owns over 500K acres where he runs cattle. He flies a helo to drop feed and has over 250 ranch hands, all armed to the teeth and nobody's fools. They don't TALK about it, they DO SOMETHIN about it. Whatever it takes. Since 1990, they haven't lost one hand, one American life, and precious few cattle. They have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY. This is the way they've secured their land and herds for DECADES.
250 men is a frikkin Company in the US Army. 250 men with at LEAST 250 guns. They're real, they're loaded, and they know how to use'em. And because of that fact, most coyotes find it healthier to be ELSEWHERE.
Like Arizona…where ranchers offer them food and shelter instead of a hail of bullets. One gets you dead. The other gets you peace of mind. That rancher, bless his soul, brought on his own demise. He was known far and wide for aiding and tolerating his land bein used as a trail into the US. And he paid the ultimate but inevitable price for such naivety.
These folks are not poor huddled masses yearning to be free. They are murderous evilast bastards who need to know with lead certainty……YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

King Cole,
If you don't believe anything the gov't or the media says, and you know anyone can take a picture and make it look like anything they want it to, making photographic evidence just as useless, then seems to me you've priced yourself out of the "convince me with the truth" market….. short of flyin down there and seein for yourself.
And while I love many parts of West Texas, Laredo is a total shithole…so's Del Rio unless you're huntin rare snakes on moonlit summer nights….and you couldn't drag me there to confirm the second comin of Jeezus Christ, let alone this story, LOLOL!.
It didn't use to be commonplace that bags of heads were dropped off on the courthouse steps in Mexico. Or that politicians, who wouldn't cooperate, were hung from the bridges. Or that people's faces were cut off and stitched to soccer balls, left in the streets…
I dunno…somehow this simply bears repeating.
You're still having a problem??? Mine cleared up Sat. Operating normally now.
Well, TexasStomp, I don't know where to start with that one, but I'll dive in. I am genuinely happy to hear that your friends have managed to keep their land secure.
However, a whole lot of ranchers don't own half a million acres. They can't afford to pay for 250 armed or unarmed hired hands. And their government has not been doing its duty to protect them. No matter how much "coddling" anyone says the Arizona rancher gave the illegal aliens, he did not deserve his fate. No American citizen deserves to be killed, standing on their own land, for reporting a crime.
Basically, your saying your friends have followed the Broken Glass policy of Neighborhood Watch. "There is absolutely no way to ensure that your home will not be burglarized, but you can make it as difficult as possible for it to be burglarized, with the hope that the burglars will rob a less-protected home." Make them "Break the Glass."
I know you are in a unique situation to comment on the Arizona situation, and have the skill and intelligence to do so. I commend you for that – and I "follow" you. Through some law enforcement connections, as well as political connections, I have some insight regarding Texas situations. I am not at liberty to disclose those connections, nor would I ever endanger those behind those connections.
What I was referring to was not a simple "coyote" band crossing the Rio Grande with their drugs or illegal aliens. You can log onto a whole lot of websites and watch that live parade any time you want.
I was referring to the news reports, true or false, that a heavily armed para-military foreign force had begun occupying land in Texas. And, say what you will, 250 armed razor-tough cowhands are no match for that bunch if they arrived en masse, fully armed. By all reports, that bunch "acquired" part of the weapons the U.S. government gave to the Mexican government to fight the Drug War. Some of those people were Mexican Special Forces, trained by the best the U.S. had to offer. (And that's pretty dang good!)
Unless your friends own some RPG launchers, howitzers, and attack choppers, and have their land mined, they could not withstand a full-out attack by that cartel for over 15 minutes.
Also, you stated that your friends and their employees "have NO PROBLEM with borders when they're in pursuit. "
I'm sure the administration appreciates that little tip. You know how protective they are about Mexico's rights.
In closing, I sure hope the ones crossing the border into Mexico, while chasing the "bad guys," never get ambushed. Otherwise, they'll be adding to the pile of bone fragments in one of those 18-wheelers' tanks of acid.
I will wait for the truth to come out, but I have no doubt the current administration would go to any lengths to keep a situation like that from becoming news. And living here in Arizona I have no doubt it will happen here one day.
Tex, Tex, Tex…..
This IS Perry we're talkin. If he's on Greta by definition he's either firin a volley at his political opponent or campaignin to bump his numbers. Don't get me wrong, I like him but he's 100% a political critter. That's not to say he won't do something or AGREE NOT TO INTERFERE with somethin AFTER the election.
just sayin…………
Let me also say ~
Tex, Tex, Tex….
God help Texas if Perry's Democratic opponent, Bill White, gets elected!
Obviously, I meant that I hoped Perry addressed the situation that did or did not happen near Laredo.
Also, TS, if YOU care about your home state – the one you hope to retire to – you'd better put the kibosh on anti-Perry statements.
You really need to visit Arizona's Tucson sector of the border. If memory serves, they have now taken down the signs advising American citizens not to enter bad guy held territory on our side of the border. Seems it was bad publicity for homeless insecurity and doj(dept of jerks) and their remarks about the border being better secured than it ever was. IMHO, it was due more to the adverse effect the signs might have in the court case against the state and Governor Brewer. Whatever the case, come packing some heavy hardware. Snakes and vermin are everywhere in the desert this time of year.
This story is still developing. I hope it isn't true. LOL, yep, they'd lie at a heart beat.
The Demoncrat National Committee has been embarrassed by their ineffectiveness in Texas, and
one of the oRegime's first acts was to declare stealth WAR on the state of Texas. o has made it his
personal priority to hurt the state as he has been repeatedly embarrassed by our unstoppable economy.
The Dem Party is doing their damn best pulling all the stops, and pumping cash into vulnerable dist-
ricts, especially major cities downstate. Early in his Regime o set turning Texas blue as a priority.
The border ain't the only war goin' on in Texas.

I will take you to task. the MS-13 gang from El salvador is as bad if not worse.
So what's your answer.. that we just ignore Zetas hijacking ranches because Laredo apparently sucks? Photos are just fine. I'm pretty sure the stick figure Zetas fighting stick figure National Guard will be easy to spot. Under your level of evidence every one of us would have to head to Laredo to verify it with our own eyes. Not my idea of a good time. If someone wants to post some photos of these ranches, pinpoint them on a map, or hey maybe get someone to make an official statement more power to them. It may be the only way to verify. It would at least add something slightly more concrete. Otherwise this whole issue will remain under a cloud. Hell, they haven't even bothered to say anything on the record yet.
But I did. I did correct them. If I missed some give me links an d I'll do that too.
What makes Los Zetas so dangerous, they were originally trained by our special forced to help the Mexican government fight the drug cartels. Because the pay was much better, Zetas quickly flipped off the Mexican government and joined the bad guys. They're very heavily armed, were taught to fight dirty, and a step up, because they know us. It's going to be a problem.
