In an era when satellite imagery allows one to count cars from space, and in a country fascinated with numbers (weekly box office take, home runs, calorie counting, etc) the MSM is having a difficult time with the math on Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally held on the Mall in Washington yesterday. By all reasonable estimates, nearly half a million people were in attendance, and yet, confusion (or perhaps subterfuge) rules the day.
CNN.com was reporting; “large crowds” and “People filled the park by the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool. . .” I have a question for the writers at CNN. If Beck’s 500,000-plus is considered a large crowd, what term would you use for the Sharpton rally held across town? Oddly enough, no mention of numbers or size was included in the description of Sharpton’s event. Was this done to diminish one or to equate the much smaller march with the enormous rally?
MSNBC.com reported, “Tens of thousands flock to the capital for a rally that largely avoided politics.” After attacking and analyzing the event for a week before it happened, the NBC’s minor league team mostly avoided putting the story in the spotlight, instead favoring a position on the U.S. news page. There was a mention on the homepage with a link to a video entitled “LaRussa, Pujols speak at Beck Rally” – huh?
Perhaps the most bizarre term used to describe or enumerate the crowd size comes from C-Span. In a piece titled, “RESTORING HONOR” RALLY DRAWS PROTEST ON “I HAVE A DREAM” ANNIVERSARY” the folks at C-Span described the audience size by stating; “droves of people descended on the nation’s steps of the Lincoln Memorial…” Droves?
However, CBS News wins the big prize here. In a web piece called Glenn Beck; “Something Beyond Imagination Is Happening,” the last-place news network actually reported their estimate for the crowd to be 87,000. Seriously. There has been no claim of website hacking by CBS, so one must assume that they meant what they wrote when stating; “Approximately 87,000 people attended the rally, according to a crowd estimate commissioned by CBS News. The estimate was made using aerial photos taken at noon, which was judged to be the height of the event. The estimate has a margin of error of 9,000 people.” CBS News is also the network setting records in the ratings department, the low ratings department.
To their credit, ABC News did state “hundreds of thousands of people from around the country converged on a hot summer day.” But the Disney-owned network did not miss the opportunity to focus their report on topics other than the actual content of the Restoring Honor rally, titling the attached video, “Rally Uproar” and including the incendiary comments made by Rev. Al Sharpton.
As one who attended the event and marveled at the size of the crowd, I can only speculate that the outlets underreporting or misreporting the size of the crowd had filed their stories long before the event, or perhaps they had made up their minds about its size, content and character well in advance of 8/28.

I suspect that the people who bought the first televisions in the 1950s, for whom Walter Cronkite, Huntley-Brinkley et al. were trusted voices bringing the world into American living rooms, are among the last ones for whom these so-called "news" outlets are an authoritative source, as their dwindling viewership would indicate.
All of statist Washington, must marginalize these remarkable rallies. They are scared out of their government issued booty’s. Conservatives don’t protest, we’re supposed to stay home and pay the bills. Oh well, they’ve pushed us, and now we’re in the town square, and not going away. I wonder how large a crowd we get up there for an out of control lame-duck session?
Glenn consistently reminded everyone that the mall holds approximately 250,000 people and the side field on the left in the picture holds about 350,000 people. He also reminded everyone that they would make sure they had the ability to estimate the crowd. My guess is that they had their own camera somewhere in the Washington monument from what he was hinting at during his radio show. I am assuming that is how they got the shot above but cannot be 100% sure.
You know last year we were all worried or at least I was about just how many people showed up for the 912 rally….
This year all I need to do is look at the mall shot above, that's all the info that I as well as the soon to be gone political class on both sides of the aisle needs to see…
If any of these nitwits thinks for one second this new awareness of the fact that this is once again. or soon will be a government 'of the prople, for the people, and by the people' is going away soon, well they are just whistling past the grave yard…..

I am pretty sure all 87,000 of CBS's reported attendees were crowded around me on the Vietnam Memorial side of the reflecting pool where I am positive I caught sight of Katie Couric with that cute "deer in the headlights" look.
You don't hear a lot about Sharpton's mono-chrome rally. I wonder why. Nor are there many crowd shots or crowd estimates.

I was there and it was a reaching out to GOD for guidance, forgiveness and a commitment to make changes from within.
The main message I got was Glen Beck recognizes that whenever anything great happens in America it starts with acknowledgment in the public square our reliance on the God of Heaven.
That our founding Fathers gave us a creed and as God fearing Americans we have stood by as God is kicked out of our public squares and this must not be from this day onward.
When Glen Beck called America to Washington he did so not knowing what exactly would happen. He was pleased with the crowd but helpless in inflicting any conviction. That is left to the Holy Spirit and it will come in His time.
He used the opportunity to honor our fallen troops in Special Opps, to honor the creed "First in that others may live"
To do what God calls true religion…to care for the widows and orphans.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction.
I heard $7,000,000 was raised.
The fact that 500,000 Americans showed up sends a message to God that we put our faith before us.
500,000 Americans showed up to ask God for His divine providence. Millions even tens of Millions more who could not be there were there in spirit standing with us.
America is at a crossroad and our vote in November will send a clear and crackling message to the enemies who are at war with the rights of mankind but Politics aside our political successes mean nothing without the presences of Him with whom we all have to do.
Without honor for both God and Country (namely those who protect our freedoms) Our country as we know it will soon be forgotten.
We must not only vote in November but make a commitment to educate ourselves, our children and do our best to persuade men everywhere that God is first, Country second and that our freedoms are bound up in the practice of Faith, Hope and Charity.

They must deceive themselves, no surprise that like the author says they can count your calories but they can't count how many are at the Beck rally. Remember the Million Man March? Beck got orders of magnitude more attendees than that fiasco did.

The magnitude of the event shows that slights by the MSM are mattering even less. People are growing beyond the ability of MSM to manipulate.
I'm constantly amazed that ANYONE would allow Sharpton to report the time of day, let alone, make any comment regarding race or any other human issue! I read one article the AP( AntiamericanPress) put out that stated it was an anti Government rally.
Make no mistake. Beck's rally caught the attention of many in the media and they realize they are way out of their element at this point.
Also, there are many Americans who either witnessed it first hand or watched it on TV. Those two facts, attendance and viewership, are two known facts that can't be denied. As I am sure there are those who only heard the negative opinions of Beck, but have now walked away with a different outlook.
But don't worry, besides the MSM's, Media Matters and Huffington Post continue to lay out the bullshit in spades. And while they scoff, they are internally concerned….

1. There were 47 people at the rally. They just moved very fast and created a blurry number that LOOKS greater than it actually is.
2. 17 of those people were actually named Larry.
3. The one fat guy there was named Carl and he had a "thing" for Celene Dion.
4. All the women there were absolute babes, but they all had boyfriends. (I asked)
5. For the far away video shots, Glenn Beck had a stunt double. Some say it was the Mexican wrestler, El Grande Marshmallow, and others state it was Oprah.
6. Reporters for CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN were there but they stayed at a Best Western and ate smore pop-tarts and got high on grape incense instead of actually going to the rally.
7. Al Sharpton did show up but left when the line at the buffet table got too long.
8. The ghosts of George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson got into a fight with the ghosts of Che, Marx, Lenin; and kicked theirs butts!!!
9. Beck did state that the next rally would be held at a Krispy Kreme by his house.
10. Regardless of the actual number, all who attended, did so with dignity, class, maturity, a love of God, a love of country and were patriots all. A friend did take videos and pics, she texted me during the rally and stated how dignified it was. How honorable the intent was. I wish I could have attended.

I would think that the easiest way to judge the size of a crowd would be to compare it to previous events held in the same spot. The Million Man March. The Obama Inauguration on the other end of the Mall.

No doubt very impressive for January in Washington. The leaves are not on the trees and you can see no one is standing under the trees. The area for the inauguration was much narrower and there were large open spaces in the crowd. On Saturday most folks were actually under the trees and packed very tightly.
So contrast the pictures of the inauguration with the crowd at Saturday's rally. There were more people there on Saturday. I'm not suggesting it was over a million but it was definitely more than the inauguration.

This is actually true, but not for the reasons you think. The folks in Washington are far more wealthy than the rest of us. So are their well-connected friends in various industries. They work together (some might use the word "conspire") to milk every last drop of cash from us that they can. This also includes poor minorities. This is the class warfare you should be talking about. It's from the top down, and it comes directly from the federal government.
What's most heinous about this set-up is one very important component of it. In a bid to maintain power, politicians try to get poor folks dependent on the system. In essence, they want poor people to stay poor so they'll keep voting a certain way. They keep poor folks poor and then throw them a few scraps in order to look "compassionate." That is incredibly degrading, and I can't think of anything that dishonors Dr. King's message more than the idea that poor folks should be used as pawns to prop up a corrupt system of injustice.

I turned on the news around 10 pm or so that night and came across CNN first on the menu. And it looked like a funeral.
On that night Chris Matthews actually gave me a thrill up my leg by stunned into silence.
Now that you mention it, I'm a local who can't recall a single such event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. IMHO the absence of such a tribute isn't a problem, the problem is that too many haven't been living up to 'The Dream'.
That is freaking awesome!!! The man who tries to represent MLK hsa 3,000 people attend, while Beck has well over 100k! I love it!!!
