You know you’re out of the loop when your only source of news is the New York Times, which is why you’re probably in a deep funk at this moment, suffering from near-terminal cognitive dissonance. Because, as Matt Welch of Reason notes, if you picked up your paper this morning, you were probably feeling pretty good about your chances tonight in Massachusetts:

On the lower two-thirds of page A22 today, The New York Times runs side-by-side Liz Robbins-authored articles of the same length, space, design, and sidebar-box analysis (the latter by Katharine Q. Seelye). On the left, the story is about Martha Coakley. On the right, Scott Brown. The exercise practically screams out for a bias-detection exercise, and oh my word does The Times deliver the goods.
First, a headline comparison:
After Career as Their Advocate, Coakley May Face Voters’ Wrath
vs.
Riding Wave of Disaffection, Brown Pushes for an Upset
Coakley: Advocate! Brown: Wave-rider! Voters: Wrathful!
Whoops! Be sure to read the whole thing here as you kick back with your favorite beverage and watch Chris Matthews crying in his beer, Rachel Maddow trying desperately to keep a stiff upper lip, and Keith Olbermann, as indefatigably nasty as ever, still snarling at Scott Brown and calling him playground names — which, when you come to think of it, are the only kind of names the Former Sportscaster probably knows.

Luckily for MSM pundits, there’s never any penalty for failure.

Thank you for the article.
Fortunes sure can change, and turn on a dime.
Had the outcome been different, Olberman, Maddow, Matthews and Anderson Cooper would have had mutually congratulating multiple orgasms. It is sure nice, seing them denied………
They ain't seen nutin yet!
Wait till november, there will be community heart attacks!
VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: Who will be the first big Liberal/Democrat/MSM to start to blame OBAMA…. and try to save their career/newspaper/ reputation…. Who will use this to save themselves and their precious party.
[...] Update: “As Coakley Sank in the Sunrise, NY Times Whistled Past Graveyard.” [...]
Loved this.
The "Official Seal"=Perfect
Dig the seal! John Adams is smiling down from heaven with pride at his home state of Massachusetts.
SHAME ON YOU, FOR RUBBING IT IN…………JK.. They still don't have a clue!!! Enjoy the victory tonight, Tomorrow will begin with renewed threats!!!!
new drinking game.
take a shot every time you hear an msnbc anchor say "teabag".
They would have at least had tingles running up and down their legs!
StoryKeeper makes a very good point.
The Lord Most High Oblabla will freak over this. His delusional ego cannot handle the idea of the peasants resisting his Magnificent Wisdom. Since he's too high on himself to bother with the Constitution and the rule of law, there's no telling what the BoyChild President will do now.
I like the baby whining baby motif.
The transcript of BHO's call to Coakley just before her conceding seemed at best, a luke warm consolation. Let's see, the fiasco of the Ignoble Prize, the shunning of Chicago for the Dopelympics, exclusion from the table at Copenhagen (Well, according the the Financial Times of London, after he begged, India and China let him sit with them.), the "9/11" Part One at Fort Hood, the "9/11" Part Two Near Miss with the Pants Bomber, I'd say he's lost MORE THAN A FEW OF THEM.
Asked about why she was not spending more time with voters, Coakley jabbed at Brown for having greeted hockey fans who attended a special outdoor game between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers.
“As opposed to standing outside Fenway Park? In the cold? Shaking hands?” she said.
Me thinks Ms. Marcia (sic)Coakley now wishes she had stood out in the cold to shake hockey fans hands at Fenway Park.
A perfect example of how out of touch the libs are with the American electorate.
As the "machine" wonders aloud why she got her skirt handed to her by the voters of Massachusetts.
only alcoholics could keep up that kind of drinking.
Look for a quick pass on the Senate version of health care…
Something else to add to the list for November…
after a few drinks olbermann is hilarious. sober, he's just sad.
Think about this..If Scot Brown LOSES by a small margin, then the chance of regaining the House were prob 3-1. Now that the "political winds are shifting" and the" handwriting is on the wall", the other dem rats will change their minds/votes to blow with the political winds and save their own sorry asses by voting NO to ObamaCare. Saving the country from a disaster, but keeping their seat in Congress. Making the odd even money…
In 20 years, they will try it again and again…We need to send a stern message to all of them, RorD, and vote all of them out, just so they know whose's boss…The American People…
She's out in the cold now eh?
MSLSD's gabbers are crying because this election was, in part, an indictment of the MSM in its entirety. They've always been biased but never as polarized and polarizing as now. Thanks to Breitbart and all forms of New Media!
They are so shrill it's become entertaining. Olbermann particularly is worse than a shrill buffoon, he has become a caricature of a shrill buffoon.
When the democratic party pushes forward HC, the democratic party will collapse, and the party system will rightfully die. The unaffiliated have spoken, not the republicans, but will the republicans listen? NO, they will not, they only care about their power, not representation.
Olbermann (Obama's mann) is more than shrill. He has now brought out the race card. Racists elected Brown. This guy is a serious nut case. It is so amazing they even let him have a show on TV
New Bumper Sticker seen on MA streets on Wednesday morning!

I watched a bit of CNN's Talking Heads after the election this evening. They had some pretty sobering thoughts for the Progressive Party Formerly Known as the Democratic Party. What was NOT impressive was thier interpretation of the voters as simply "angry". Never once could they get around their heads that there are deep, philosophical differences with the Ruling Party. But, what can one expect from a panel of pesudo intellectuals?
To the bitter end the MSM thought Croakley would win…Their epitaph along with the dems and Coakley in the graveyard of arrogance…" We Were Slow to Adapt, Blinded by Ideology, We Committed Mass Suicide and Didn't Even Know It"…May they all RIP… in Hell…Man with no name …OUT…
ya, and without her skirt.
Sometimes he's on NBC commenting before a football game, and I won't even listen to him then.
I turn the channel, or mute the TV.
He cries more than a colicky baby with diaper rash. Instead of "countdown", they should call it "crydown".
Do yourself a favor, and stay away from the Commie News Network. The "angst" factor alone could lead to an early grave.
Just sayin.
Hopefully, they have seen the tombstone…the epitaph reads " slow to change, blinded by idiology. commited mass suicide and dedn't even know it " RIP ..in hell…Drifter out…
I have noticed a trend on the blog today– thumbs down for everyone! There are some bitter, bitter libs out there today. (Though I have tried to remedy that as much as possible).
For once, I'm happy to be thumbed down. It literally brings a smile to my face.
play golf?
hmmm, if that global warming thing had just come around in time to save her…
Given their demonstrated hubris, I very much doubt Obama and Company will "get it." They've already started blaming Ms Coakley as a "bad candidate." She WAS, but this tsunami was THEIR fault more than hers. She simply couldn't overcome decisions on the part of Congressional Dimocrats to rush through Obamacare on Christmas eve, larded up with exceptions for this and exceptions and bribes for that–just to secure the necessary votes for passage, added to a full YEAR of out-of-control spending of money we simply don't have, increasing the deficit by more in one year than the Bush administration managed to do in 8!
I'm not sure but I believe that's Keith Ohlbermann as an infant…………………………..he, or Chris Mathews.
Anderson Cooper? geez now I'm not sure…..
he look's like all of them……………………..
I kinda like seeing the smugness being wiped off their ugly faces!
Mr.Walsh I don't understand, the media is a business, in this case the Times, their circulation is down, and people are laid off.
I don't understand how ideology or even ethics would trump profitability. Why doesn't the board replace management and get their house in order?
Oh no. What's dear leader going to do now?
I know, host another party for whoever wants to show up.
The msm will NEVER understand that this election was FOR the PEOPLE of AMERICA!!! They will NEVER admit that Democrats participated in this election…Scott Brown WON because the PEOPLE are SICK of the Obama policies, they are SICK of Obama's weak image of the United States of America!! WE want our country back from the criminals in the White House!!! Obama was elected because of the LIES he told the American people and they want NO MORE of it!! Get over yourselves msm…you are dead in the water!!!
Well now, after a year in office it looks like Obama's "hope and change" thing has finally got some purchase.
Enjoy the night, the real work begins tomorrow. Obama is going to lash out like the cornered rat and really step up his destroy america campaign. He actually believes the whole country is wrong and only he knows what is best for us. He will destroy the democratic party but he does not care, it is all about him and his delussional belief that he knows how to do socialism right and we will all end up loving im for it.
God save the republic!
We'll see. The things I've heard out of Nancy's mouth seem to suggest they're going to try some back door means of passing the health care bill. Should be an interesting 10 months as we head for November!
I'm still amazed anyone would choose her as a candidate. She kept an innocent man in jail and brags about it!
And I thought the Boston Globe's gaffe was a doozy…!
It takes Olby several months to catch-up with the rest of us. He's still throwing the "racist" lawn dart at us and instead of being offended, we just seem to shake our heads and feel sorry for his poor wife and kids.
Wait'll November! We'll be witness to a live suicide by Olberwoman on BSnbc.
The same goes for the Boston Globe (owned by the NYT); rather than moving to center – at the least – they choose to let themselves slide into the red. This costs hundreds of people good jobs as writers, editors, pressmen and ad sales people.
Even a common house fly realizes it has to move when it's about to be swatted!
This is why the alleged "intellect" of the liberals has been exposed – they are too stupid to save themselves and cling to their ridiculous progressive ideas – which have been proven time and time again in recent history to be a failure.
I actually watched MSNBC for a bit last night in order to gloat. Olbie, Matthews, Maddow and O'Donnell were pathetic. Olbie and Matthews were talking reconciliation to jam home the bill. O'Donnell looked like someone who had just found a strange pubic hair in her facial soap. They were all clueless thinking the election was merely about jobs (maybe health care anyone?) Of course, The New York Times would be just as bad, but I never even look at that unless it is brought up here.
Ah…Good King George.
Er, OBAMA!
I meant, Obama.
Can't have history repeat itself, know what I'm sayin'?
The cool thing about me being late to the party is that I'm a thumbs-up kinda gal!
You all scored yourself one more point. =)
T-Jed – Norah O'Donnell looked like her dog just got run over. I was watching the local cable news from Boston and the reporter they sent to the Brown party was just trying not to cry – It was worth it just for that. Rachel Maddow was just waiting to dive in for some dyke on dyke action at Doyle's .
I flipped on MSNBC last night, to see how the poor chaps were taking it…. not well. Olbermann, as catty as ever, was actually criticizing Scott Brown for talking so long… in HIS acceptance speech. WTF? Really? This is why you're in last place Keith. Brown just won a hell-of-an-improbable campaign, and Mr. Not-that-Cornell engages in this type of childishness. Olbie seriously looked like he was going to cry…
I'm waiting to hear Danny Glover say that the elction of Scott Brown was the result of global warming. And, of course, the MSM will cover it.
I happened to flip over for a few seconds to see what Keith Olbermann would say.
He asked the question to a guest, if maybe, President Obama, who had gone out of his way to be bi-partisan in crafting Health Care reform, would begin to realize that there was no point in trying to reach out to republicans and extend to them the offer to join in.
There is always a laugh at the intersection of Cognative Dissonance and Crazy.
Weiner was saying they have no leadership from the White House on the Healthcare Bill and they can see the message they need to start over. I would agree. I am sick of my insurance costs going up every year, but nothing in that bill was going to solve that. As little as my family used the Doctor in 2009, there was no reason I should have not went without insurance. Pelosi keeps saying it is about "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" it is time to put up or shut up Nancy. Maybe there would not be so many uninsured if there were not so many unemployed.
Lol! Thanks.
Snip "…After Career as Their Advocate, Coakley May Face Voters’ Wrath"
I am sure every deviant, hand out queen, and slack jawed knee jerk self appointed intellectual did vote for her, which seems to be the only people she was an advocate for.
Should have been "…After decades abusing Honest Hard working Citizens, Coakley worries that citizens may wake up and take notice"
Of course Keith hates Scott Brown. Every time he looks at him he sees the guy who used to give him swirlies back in high school (dunking him in the john head first and flushing for those unfamiliar with that term)
Word!
I don't know who'll be the first, but my prediction is every democrat that doesn't retire, and is facing a hard re-election campaign will do just that.
Slowly at first, then a tidal wave. These are A) politicians and B) modern liberals. Their own ass comes first.
The racism chant is just a political tactic used by the left to stop the debate. They follow Alinsky's rules and tactic–and ridicule is their primary weapon. The great thing is Americans are awake and it is not working!
Change I can believe in!
Thank you Massachusetts Patriots, all of you!
It depends who blinks first: the leadership or the rank and file.
You don't think Max Bacus isn't shaking in his shoes right now?
He's a pretty cold and calculating person. I don't expect any change in his public demeanor.
How ever, he really doesn't like uncomfortable questions, so he could start getting snippy with the press, which could steam roll out of control.
That would be fun.
Don't be so sure. She's a modern liberal through and through, which means there's a good chance she's glad she lost so she doesn't have to mingle anymore with the unwashed masses.
I turned it on Fox at 10pm last night hoping to catch some of the early results.
And what is the first thing I see? Coakely throwing in the towel!
Olberman should take his own advice. If he talked less, may be more people would watch his show.
Jon Stewart's recent bit about how incompetent the Dems have been in the last year was very telling…
I was ROFL when Brown was winning 52% over Coakly's 46% with 65% of the votes counted. I was ROFL when Maddow, interviewing Howard Dean said something to the effect of, "Well, I don't want to say Brown is winning. There's still time for her to pull this out. But what do you think of the tightening of this race?"
I just got it. They're accusing the MA voters of biting the hand that feeds them. It's the voters' fault for not being grateful to her.
Rachael and Howie are toetaggers with blinders on… spinning while circling the drain and cutting their own throats…Let them stay clueless and misinterpret the results of the Tues MA election.. Some, I've heard say, Marsha lost because she/Obama were not liberal ENOUGH…Talk about lamebrains in search of.a coherent thought…
What does ROFL stand for?…Sorry, not up on all the abbreviations..I'm guessin…Really Out For Lunch?.
Jeez kids, please don't get too impressed with yourselves.
I read those headlines (and the stories too!) in the NY Times before the election and heard the news that Brown would probably win. And then he did!
Please have fun pointing out mistakes, but making stuff up is uncalled for.
[...] He also points out that a certain newspaper was biased in favor of Martha Coakley, despite the fact that the instance of bias he pointed to, and [...]
Good job, I usually don’t really care for purple color sites but you guys def. pulled it off. Great stuff!
Untrue. They were one of the first banks to completely repay their TARP funds despite the fact that they had bought both Bear Sterns and WAMU. If anything, they lightened the burden by paying for those banks liabilities so you didn’t have to.
