For long-suffering conservatives, Christmas arrived about a month late this year. But considering all the presents we got this week, it was like coming downstairs and finding the Budweiser Clydesdales under the tree, instead of that crummy used Radio Flyer your dad managed to find on eBay for twenty bucks.
First, on Tuesday, there was the Massachusetts Miracle, in which an obscure state senator named Scott Brown came out of nowhere — okay, Wrentham — to defeat a lackluster and morally dubious Democrat machine party hack who had expected to slow-walk herself, with David Gergen’s blessing, into “Teddy Kennedy’s seat.” But the Bay State voters had other ideas for the “Massachusette” –

Brown ran hard on the selling point that he would be the 41st vote in the Senate against Harry Reid’s and Nancy Pelosi’s screwball tax-and-wreck “health care” plan, a Rube Goldbergian contraption that would have made Elbridge Gerry weep with envy at all its cut-outs, set-asides, bribes and special-interest stroking. He also campaigned on the notion that taxpayer dollars would be better spent fighting terrorists instead of paying for lawyers for them. So, naturally, the first questions he got yesterday from the press corps in Washington were all along the lines of: “You’re not really a Republican, are you?”
To which the Democrats, caught flat-footed as usual, basically reacted like this:

In short order, Barney Frank headed for the exits on health-care, then briefly waddled back, until the pride of Baltimore, Anunciata d’Alesandro Pelosi, glumly announced that her beloved “health care” bill was pretty much sleeping with the fishes.
Yesterday was almost as much fun. First the Supreme Court handed the Maverick his head by eviscerating the notorious, blatantly unconstitutional “Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002″ and sending it to the dustbin of history. As one of the major blots on the escutcheon of the Bush Administration was handily wiped away by a 5-4 vote, with the usual suspects lined up four to four on either side and Justice Kennedy tipping the scale to the right, the man who did more than anyone else to give us the Obama Administration was seen sucking up to… Scott Brown.

Justice Kennedy wrote:
Because speech is an essential mechanism of democracy — it is the means to hold officials accountable to the people — political speech must prevail against laws that would suppress it by design or inadvertence.
That principled defense of the First Amendment in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission naturally sent the left into high orbit. President Obama promised a “forceful response” — how many divisions does the Supreme Court have, anyway? — while New York Senator Chuck “Schemer” Schumer called the decision “un-American,” announced he would hold hearings and vowed to whip up some new laws in time for the fall elections to… to… whatever.
The purest, rawest and most crazed reaction from the lunatic fringe, of course, came from the super-special “Special Commentator,” the Former Sportscaster, Keith Olbermann, who disinterred the corpses of Roger Taney and Dred Scott in order to beat Chief Justice John Roberts with their bones. As a dark, paranoid, tasteless, moonbat fantasy, this one goes straight to the Hall of Fame:
Wait! There’s more!
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, anyone who can watch Olbermann melt down on what passes for national television over at MSNBC without laughing has a heart of stone.
Meanwhile, almost lost in the shuffle was the news about this guy. You remember him, the one who ran for vice president in 2004, and was considered one of the front-runners for the Democratic nomination in 2008 until the National Enquirer caught him with his pants down while two crack reporters from the MSM, Time’s Mark Halperin and New York’s John Heilemann sat on the story. Well, the ambulance-chasing millionaire finally ‘fessed up about his own personal “two Americas.”
Finally, stand me with here upon the terrace as we contemplate the wreckage of Air America. which quietly breathed its last yesterday after bravely struggling against the Rethuglican Smear Machine for, lo, these few, unsuccessful years. Perhaps Olbermann can salvage something from the debris and keep it on his desk as a kind of memento mori of the ratings fate that sooner or later awaits his network as well.

Thanks for the article.
We all needed the laugh.
Christmas in January? I was wanting a Red Ryder BB Gun with a compass in the stock, but upon reflection decided against it, as I was afraid I'd shoot my eye out. Since the Health Care Bill died, I was afraid I'd be classified as uninsured and uninsuarable, and would have to scoot around on my azz, with a patch over my eye, selling pencils and gum on the Capitol steps.
Thank you Santy Klauz!
Olberman and Edwards were PRICELESS!
Can't stop smiling!
I can't stop laughing at that photo of Pelosi.
HA "contemplate the wreckage of Air America" HA! music I tell ye, music to my ears.
Love it, helluva week. Enough back patting, time to gear up for next week now. Let the pukes chase their tails on the Sunday talk circuit while we reload.
We've been partying all week, with each day producing something even more joyous than the last!!!!!!!
This is Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year's Eve, Purim, Fasching and Tet all at the same time!!!!!
Suck it, douchebags…and say my name!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You find humor in that face? How? She sends my heart into atrial fibrillation. Seriously, that woman scared the living crap out of me.
Now THAT, was funny.
Liberalism: tag it and bag it: http://tinyurl.com/yzhfqe3
Oh, and I do have the heart of a liberal. It's displayed in my trophy case. http://tinyurl.com/ylztqgf
Celebrate the battle victories, but keep the war inmind. We need to keep up the fight. RINOs need to meet the same demise,. I still don't trust Steele, and I don't want a "bandwagon leader". This b.s. about Boehner wanting to co-opt the Tea Partiers is folly. Study groups to learn what you should inherently know? And these guys represent us? Please.
It has been a great week. And, hopefully, the course-correction will continue in this direction. But don't think for a minute the Progressives are going to let up. The Democrats are dazed and confused. And many Republicans are eyeing the TEA party movement as their trump card. Don't let either party fool you! The danger is still out there. The danger is still real. Celebrate, but keep your eye on the ball.
Everyone needs to calm down and not get too carried away. Look – Mr. Brown's election to the Senate is nothing more than a minor speed bump, a detour if you will. These people in Washington are nothing if not commited to the financial destruction of the United States, destruction of personal freedoms, and the micromanagement of our personal lives. They are NOT going to give up. Don't mistake them for Republicans in that regard.
You better take a closer look at Pelosi's eyes. If you don't see pure evil, or insanity in those eyes your'e denying the obvious. She has blood in her eyes and will be seeking vengance. It's not a botox reaction. Do NOT let your guard down. They are not throug yet.
Perhaps Olbermann can salvage something from the debris and keep it on his desk as a kind of memento mori of the ratings fate that sooner or later awaits his network as well.
Watching this guy on these YouTube venom vignettes, ..(.now that the pudgy poster girl of putsch, Garafolo, has lost her medium)…I wonder, is THIS the face of the modern Democratic Party?
Nancy Pelosi and Keith Olbermann represent ALL that it stands for…and against. The marriage of these two…and that marriage's consummation would produce what, exactly? A wrinkled taxpayer pincher that bites.
Michael: Great article. Methinks Olbermann is taking msnbc into the sunset with his radical rantings. While he may be able to do this on one occasion, it is inconceivable that he is allowed to continue. Is nobody in charge there?
All right, Olbermann smokes crack. When Jon Stewart lambasts you to the liberal clubhouse, your days are numbered.
It's not hard to envision the man sitting in isolation in a nice padded room delivering true monologue.
I know, made me think of one of those gag e-mails that throws a scary face on the screen to scare the crap out of you. The scariest part of this one is. She's Real!
I know what you mean…I have to scroll down to hide it, had the story been wrapped around the pic I could not have finished it.
The best thing that can happen to conservatives is that Olbermann keeps his job and keeps talking. Same with Obama – every day he is President is one more day closer to a time when liberals will be looked at like an extinct wooly mammoth – dead and frozen and viewed with wonderment about how they ever lived in the first place.
We've earned one day off, and when the sun rises again, it's back to work with a more hopeful heart. We have a start, and a good one, but we need to keep our eyes on the prize.
November 2010 won't happen without all of us doing our parts.
A keeper Michael (although the picture of Ms.Lugosi is a bit much to take so early in the day…have a heart)
A great week indeed.
Thanks again to the voters of Massachusetts for sending Mr. Brown to Washington. Millions of Americans are forever grateful.
Now that a co-worker has kindly restarted my heart after having the Pelosi pic pop onto my monitor, a question occurs…
Doesn't KO work for a corporation?
I'm so going to miss Olbermann when he's gone. Countdown in arguably the best comedy on television. I especially loved the theory that, but for the Dred Scott decision, there would have been no Civil War. I'm thinkin' KO was smokin' some wacky-tobaccy during history class.
Party like it's 1994!
FAITH COLLAPSING !!!!
We are witnessing the systematic collapse of the Liberal / Progressive Ideology. The only thing holding it together now is the MSM's reluctance to report what is really going on. I often said before the 2008 elections that the best way to destroy the Left was to give them everything they wanted, their hubris would be their own undoing. But be extra vigilant at this time, like a cornered animal fighting to survive, now is when they become most dangerous and unpredictable.
Whew, at least I can breathe today! One day out of a year, hey, that ain't bad! I know they're going to double down and it's probably gonna be poor DownTown Scottie Brown that takes the brunt of it. I hope he is who he appears to be and I hope he can keep his back covered. Makes me nervous when he starts sidling up to McCain!
Yes We Can! Yes We Can!
First the Supreme Court rules 'the right to bear arms' means the right to bear arms.
Second the Court says 'freedom of speech' actually means freedom of speech.
Could we be on the threshold of a new era where the Supreme Court rises up and forces Congress and the President to actually rule within the confines of the Constitution?
Correct. It's not democrats vs. republicans, or liberals vs. conservatives, its We The People vs. the ruling elite class.
The democrats definitely have more of them, but they exist in the GOP too.
Remember how many of them are on board with global warming?
They could all be busy combing through the help wanted ads.
I want him to get canned, if for no other reason it'll keep his ass off my football games.
Hey there was another thing to be excited about: Air America declaring bankruptcy and ceasing broadcast.
We're past campaign mode…
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d2e_1264088826
This Conservative is not celebrating a Republican win. More Right-Left BS that's ripping our nation into shreds. We're being played like violins.
I find great humor in that face. It's uproariously ugly… I guess I'm one of those people who giggle nervously when something scares me…
Lord Obermans equating free speech with slavery
Under R/F lobbying and coprorate influence will decrease, that was the argument, well did it Lord Oberman?
What a blowhard, only guy in the world that can take 20 minutes to order a cup of coffee.
Ahhhhhhhh…. Life is good.
Please put a warning at the beginning of your articles if there's going to be a scary Pelosi picture when readers scroll down. I thought there was a Botoxed leprechaun getting ready to jump out of my computer.
Piggy looks like she is being thrilled with a refrigerated, uh, "prosthesis".
Enter HD TV at CSPAN and enjoy Nancy, Maxine,et al, in all their artificial beauty.
I think it's quite about time to rename "Countdown" to "Meltdown with Keith Olberdouche". The pic of Pelostink is great , I swear she looks like the bastard child of Heath Ledger's Joker and Joan Rivers. This week has just been a blast, imagine what November will be like. Good times ahead people.
It's Waterloo week at the DNC.
Tell u what, we can defeat Pelosi-care with that picture. Get the word out that she's is the new gov'ment Doc.
Yes it's great but Vlad was right, watch what the other hand is doing. They will not go quietly into the night.____A progressive scorned is worse than…. well you know.____And keep a very close eye on Brown. Although I have noticed the left already trying to make us think he is not who he says he is. On another board someone posted a youtube claiming he said he wanted a public option, but no where in the youtube does he say that. He listed several of the items in the current bill then said "but I think we can do better".____still I'm nervous till a few votes are behind him – as with any of the up and coming
Amen brother!!
Haven't watched a game on NBC since he showed up there.
Just don't place a mirror or anything directly opposite your door, Cowboy. Broken glass is difficult to sweep up.
Ok, I admit that I only watched a minute or so of Oberman on the second video but I really had to turn it off. He ranted on about how he, his network in fact all "independants" like him would disappear. Just previous to that he said that Kerry and Bloomberg would pauper themselves trying to run for office against big business. Geezuz, Kerry (through his wife who got the money from the hard work of a republican) and Bloomberg are big business. Didn't anyone bother to tell Obie that Bloomberg spent almost 100 million bucks to buy, er sorry campaign for mayor and still almost lose to a relative unknown.
The sad thought is that Obie, Maddow and Matthews along with their pals at CNN will always have their shows. The two of them now fight over the hard left viewers that will never go to Fox and the network heads know that the Fox viewers will never move to MSNBC or CNN. Well as long as there's enough money for Obie's awfully young girlfriend to get paid at her weather channel job (NBC bought the weather network). The man is a pig.
It HAD been a good week until we had to see the ARROGANT cindy mccain in her ARROGANT display for gay marriage. Always did know she and her daughter were so deceitful and of course the one and only johnny boy stuck up for her. Then I get a message on may machine made by Senator Brown to vote for him!!! Then we get Sarah Palin who many of us had so much respect for jump on the wagon to campaign for him. THEY TRULY ARE ALL THE SAME JUST NOT AS MUCH BOTOX as pelosi but that is just because she used it all. AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST is michelle o showing up on the TV to ask for donations for Haiti when those creeps have given – are you ready for this??? A WHOPPING $14,000.00 – Like Glenn Beck I have blood shooting out of my eyes.
Priceless and gratifying recap of the Leftist's worst week in YEARS!
Mah-velous, simply mah-velous. The left gets paddled – on live TV. Obama thinks "we just don't get it…"
I watched some of Olbermann's imitation of a nuclear implosion live – I couldn't resist…what a…what a…I'm out of adjectives to dscribe ol' Keithy and his antics…

Keith we hardly knew ye. Well, bye.
The image of that banshee would gag a maggot.
I bet if she were dead (prove to me she isn't already) and her corpse was placed on a garbage heap, even the flies and maggots would not touch her rotting body.
She is just that scary.
She's giving us the "stink eye".
Hi wimper. I have to say I disagree with you in regards to Palin. I think by appearing in one fundraiser with Mccain she's doing the classy thing. She is showing a degree of loyalty to the man who ultimately picked her to run for VP. It's especially classy to see this after all the attacks on her from Steve Schmidt et al who were in large part responsible for the loss to obama.
There is no doubt that Mccain is the worst sort of rino but the members of the gop in Arizona can fix that by running a real conservative candidate in the primary.
Gird your loins.
The other gift….total technical destruction in the markets. (if your were short) Folks be forewarned. Monster volatility coming in spades.
this was great mr. walsh, thanks!
but now is no time to let up; as been said before the bums either don't get it or don't care. maybe both.
This was the week the left finally figured out who the TeabaggEES are….
Just heard David "marble mouth" Gergin on CNN really in a tizzy about Obama's militant tone in Ohio today.
The GOOD WEEK may not be over!
I am also a conservative but Right and left BS is what made this country great. Our country started with Federalists and Democratic-Republicans squaring off and trying to get their ideas to the forefront of American law. Opposing ideas are good for the nation, it's what made America great. We all just seen what happens when one party has too much control, although I don't remember it being this extreme while the Republicans were in control. Thank god the system worked and Obama's socialist experiment didn't work.
Late Christmas presents or early 4th of July fireworks.
Nice to see the progressive meltdown, but I thought Air America went bankrupt about 5 times already. Please tell me we can finally piss on the grave…
Think about her husband and how he must despise(envy) Todd Palin.
You forgot Halloween, it's like the bag of candy is almost overflowing.
I have to note this guy's initials are K. O. and his claim to political analysis is that he was a sportscaster. Well gee. I guess I better listen up to my Betters. I'l take a bet. MSNBC will actually surpass their own record for lowest audience. If it weren't for the blogs showing his most idiotic rants, I'd never have known who the man is. But those few clips? He needs a T-shirt that says I-yam-what-I-yam. Thank God that's all he'll ever be. He so plainly honest, he truly believes that we aren't real people ,along the lines of Dredd Scott. Both decisions are totally wrong. The lineup at that network is just amazing, swapping spit as they rant at the camera. Can anybody define who their audience is? Since he knows we weren't watching, who is he talking to every night. Please, Comcast, DO SOMETHING!
What'd you say Spider?
Olbermann's going down in his own personal apocalypse, Waco-style.
Not fun to watch.
Don’t forget Climategate – which has been a major blow to the AGW movement. It of course was just the appetizer to Christmas in January.
uh…. I think the phrase you’re groping for is WHAT THE FUCK?! I can only presume that MSNBC keeps this hack on the air for entertainment value! Seriously, you could cut and paste him into SNL with virtually no segue and it would be seamless. Except in a bumblebee suit. Oh, please please, in the bumblebee suit! Oooops, did I just date myself?
Don’t forget Climategate – a body blow to the AGW movement that will eventually criple it.
RE: Keith Olbermann, to paraphrase a line of dialogue in the movie “The Cat In the Hat”, “He was talking, but was he saying anything? No, not really.”
In the big political chess game played out last week in Massachussets I do believe I heard the tea party-motivated Republican party say “Check”. Now more than ever it is crucial for everyone to pay attention to the future moves of the administration. A game change is not expected but a change in tactics is. Remember Obama’s words; “What we want is not negotiable, how we get it is.”
you forgot one: Erroll Southers taking his name out of consideration for TSA head was also a grand time.
as for Olbermann, well…I think his annotated "why I was right that Scott Brown is a racist teabagging scumbag" speech is what's going to finally get him fired.
With their ambitious progressive agenda in meltdown I believe they are more dangerous than ever. They crave power as an addict does drugs, and helping them out now will result only in them backstabbing the country later. Let's continue to allow them to destroy themselves, helping where we can to stick the knife in a little deeper. After all what are friends across the aisle for?
It's always entertaining to watch liberal hacks in the media fret as their presumptions collapse and they once against are slapped in the face by the real world.
But I would not make too much of Air America's demise. It's like a philosophical question – if a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it, does it make a sound. Nobody listened to them anyway so they are irrelevant, except for what I said above.
Hey, it's instant elimination of "Ar Pollution". – that's a good thing.
[...] Christmas in January, if you favor smaller government. [...]
Agreed. That was just wrong, and without warning.
Thankfully – I had time to digest dinner before looking at that botoxed mug
Olbermann is officially insane. Maybe he has been smacked in the noodle by one too many tea bags? What a douche.
I've been dancing all week! Every day was better than the next … well, maybe Tuesday was the best. Thank you Lord!!!
And Olbermann is the bggest maroon ever. He hauls out Dred Scott over campaign donations, but never thinks it might relate to Roe v. Wade. Brilliant.
Don't forget the last stocking stuffer – Gitmo is still in business despite Obama's pledge to have it closed by today!
I love the smell of Epic Fail in the morning.
Mr. Walsh you recaped quite well as usual. By the way the context of the classic Pelosi eyebrow shot was quite funny.
I can also say for the first time I've been watching the entire MSNBS lineup pretty much all week. Tuesday night's election coverage was awesom, and the Mathews Dean craziness was a comedic classic.
I'm PARTICULARLY ticked off at the Bobbsey twins(Heillman & Halperin) who kept so much of their campaign
knowledge to themselves to prevent the rejection of a Dem at election time. They sit smugly on every show
pimping their tome and NO ONE has challenged them on their blatant partisanship. Reporters? Hell no.
Elitist liberals to the max.
the dims are out to get scott brown. they didn't bother to do his unscheduled anal exam because he came
on unexpectedly & quickly in the last couple weeks of the campaign. he has been in the Mass statehouse
for several years, therefore much muckraking & sifting is surely being done in the backrooms at the behest
of rahm & axlrd. if he's even had a hangnail become infected in the past it will be the most awful affront to
society in the last 50 yrs. brace yourself, the bloom is about to come off this rose. don't let the dims' set the
bar for us, as they have tried to do so many times, remember they don't even have a bar. b o has admitted
to being a DRUGGIE, probably a dealer, compare that to any foibles conservatives are accused of, before
you over-react. greta on fox, is doing a puff piece on brown tonight, hopefully not a SET-UP, as she was apo-
plectic due to his victory, on election night. remember the extended interviews greta did on palin, as vp candi-
date. as far as i know, greta hasn't had any interviews with palin since, not sure though. greta builds them
up for us, to near HERO status, then leaves it to others to swat them down. all these people greta is inter-
viewing tonight will get a follow-up visit from the obamatrons next week. i PRAY i am wrong!
This was refreshing. It
I love the fact that olberman is arguing that they should never overturn precedent.
Politician = prostitute. I never thought of that one.
Wars being sold as products.
And all that he thinks is bad laws is because of the Supreme Court's ruling, and because of Chief Justice Roberts.
Yep, it is truly laughable what this melonhead sportscaster has to say. No wonder his ratings continue to pale in comparison to any of the Fox News Channel shows.
Yep, it's the evangelicals in cahoots with corporations that will control the government starting in 2010, all because of Roberts, according to olberman.
How MSNBC can continue to allow such an out of touch with reality melonhead to be their shining flagship news show will probably never be determined, even after they're sold, again.
I would prefer to have the heads of the first ten corporations in the phone book running this country that this group of dolts that knows nothing and does less unless you count the damage that they manage to do with their half baked ideas. Oberman is a moron, and I know I am insulting the morons of the world.
if a radio station dies without anyone ever having heard it, did it ever exist?
That is classic
Like the bully who comes home crying to his Mommy after the little guy punched him back square in the nose.
HA!
We all saw what McCain did and we are all happy to see Capitalism/Conservatism get their punch back.
No time to relax now… reload and send um all packing out of Congress.
Someone should edit that clip so Oberman slowly changes to a talking head of fire!
The supreme irony of Olbermans rant against corporations unduly influencing the American electorate is the fact that one of the largest, General Electric owns NBC, and it encourages the partisan drivel to spew nightly under the false guise of unbiased reportage. An abrogation of the constitutional protection of an independent press.
But I fear somehow that the irony would be lost on Keith.
Jason in Indy
Keep Jim Demint in the forefront of your thoughts! He will prove to be our savior and he is getting 90 yards of crap from the RINOS (think McConnell) beccause he is doing their jobs for them and he is up for re-election this year

It is a start. Not the beginning of the end, or even the end of the beginning.
Meanwhile, our Telepromptee in Chief assaults the banking system, ignores his own Secretary of the Treasury, and the Chairman of the Fed is in danger of being rejected by the Senate. We've got a real unemployed/underemployed rate of 22% and it's "unexpectedly" getting worse.
We won't see a recovery until the Democrats lose Congress.
Although I still believe this country is in a heap o' trouble, I confess that I feel a little bit better its prospects than I did last Monday. Not a lot, mind you, but just a little.
[I was wanting a Red Ryder BB Gun with a compass in the stock, but upon reflection decided against it, as I was afraid I'd shoot my eye out.]
I actually owned a Red Ryder BB gun once (Yeah, I'm that old.), and that's the reason I've never been happy. When I managed to get hold of one, my mother said, "Now you won't be happy until you shoot somebody's eye out." I never shot anybody's eye out.
My dart board with the Bolshevik B*tch Pelosis ugly mug on it has more than a few darts targeted right on that ugly nose. And Im not the only one throwing them.
The Edwards story shows why we have Andrew Breitbart and Big Govt,Big Journalism etc. The so-called “media” has been commie ever since Mccarthy. So has academia and most lawyers. Now that they are desperate, we see the real idiots like Uberdork(hes a journalist? with a degree in agriculture?) acting like the 2 yr olds they are.
They told me I would shoot my eye out. And I did.
(Actually, a younger sister did, but who's pointing fingers?)
This article was funny as hell, Cowboy Logic, but your comment certainly rivalled it.
Olberman is a nut! How does he think that Obama got a trillion dollars to run for President? We already have a President bought and paid for! He mentions Haliburton, but not the fact that Obama has maintained all Halibutron contracts! Listening to him reminds me that there are people who think like him, and that is scary! What a douche!
Thanks for a very uplifting article. The looney leftie meltdowns are just great!

Bought and sold into office?….reminds me of the presidential election of 2009. Who spent more than a billion dollars to win the presidency? Who reneged on his promise to support the McCain-Feingold bill?
A sweeeet week indeed.
Funny how that hack partisan adolescent pretending to be a Serious Journalist can find a parallel between the 1857 Dred Scott ruling and this week's Roberts Court ruling that corporations entities can now participate in political campaigns on the same footing as the Trial Lawyers Association, the NEA, and Big Labor have been doing for decades. Yet he somehow can't make the same connection of Dredd Scott, which ruled that slaves must be legally defined as property, with Roe v Wade, which defined the unborn child as the property of its mother, to be disposed of as she sees fit.
Olberman sees the Constitution through a glass eye, darkly.
Keith I guess would rather have a dictatorship.
Good article, Mr. Walsh.
I could hardly believe it when I saw the always staid, painfully understated, famously skeptical Charles Krauthammer declare this past week to be his best since spring break at medical school.
We conservatives have not had much to celebrate for quite awhile, and even the election victories in VA & NJ, I think, seemed almost to good to be true – maybe just a fluke.
Mere months ago, the Repubs were being proclaimed (and not just in the mainstream media) all but dead – they were "reduced to a regional, southern party", doomed to minority status for at least the next generation.
Now, people are comparing this current wave of disatisfaction and disgust with the Dems to the '94 miracle, when the Newt-led Repubs drained the swamp of the previous plague of snakes.
I don't agree. Back then, the Repubs had a game-plan – the Contract With America. This was promoted aggressively and endlessly by its author, Newt Gingrich, and his Republican colleagues. But in order to grease the skids for that strategy, the Repubs had to have something to hang their hats on. As now, the Dems, having been in control for awhile, were not only over-reaching legislatively, but as always, their supremacy led to corruption and cronyism. But it was nothing like this current pack of thieves. Back then, for those who don't or can't remember, the "huge" scandal the Repubs drummed up had to do with Dems in congress receiving salary advances, which basically added up to interest-free loans. Another big scandal the Repubs capitalized on had to do with Dems in Congress converting their postage allowances into cash payouts. Mind you, these scandals were so "big" that I no longer remember their names – "Pay-advancegate"? Nah. "Loangate"? Nah. "Stampgate"? Nah.
So, Repubs took these two issues and ran with them. Sure – now we're jaded, and this piddling little larceny would not turn anyone's head. But just 17 or 18 years ago the media were not as blatantly biased as now, and after much ado and relentless harping, the image of the money-grubbing, above-the-law Congress took hold. Of course, the media did their best to portray these shenanigans as a much more bi-partisan issue, because there were some Repubs doing the same thing (not nearly as many, nor to the extreme the Dems were involved). But, hey – at least then they covered it. Now, of course, they would do their best to ignore it. And when finally, belatedly shamed into covering it by Fox or the Blogosphere, they would claim it just wasn't that big a deal.
Anyway, now the Repubs have no such plan. They're just as clueless as their opposition. Boehner is no Gingrich. All the Repubs are doing is shouting out the glaringly obvious – the fiscal irresponsibility, questionable appointments, and radical policy decisions which have done nothing to improve anyone's lot, have left us less safe, and done nothing to "improve our standing in the international community", for that matter. This time, the fact that the Dems and their leader have fallen so hard so fast, truly is a miracle. This time, public dissatisfaction and disgust is truly native-born; grassroots; visceral in nature and universal in scope.
Whereas the 1994 elections were a referendum on incumbency (and the Repubs made out because there were less of them TO lose their seats), this current wave is heading in one direction. The Repubs are not, as a party, being touched by any of this. The mainstream media may say different – "Party of NO", and all that b.s. – but anyone who truly pays attention knows that dog ain't huntin' no more. Now that Obama has signalled he is not inclined to moderate, that he intends to continue pushing his same radical agenda, this November's elections will make 1994 look like the blip it honestly was.
Cool stuff happening – and vids of "Keith Olbermann" going insanely over the top, forcasting the end of civilization and the enslavement of all citizens and a disaster he says will be worse then the civil war. ;/ He seem to ignore all the supreme court did was shut down a 7 year old law — I don't remember the world dramatically improving after '02?
Good point, Kelly.
In fact, I've always suspected the only reason McCain had anything to do with that dumbass bill was to burnish his bi-partisan cred in preperation for his (failed) presidential runs.
And, yeah – a hell of a lot of good it did.
I find Olberman's diatribe completely hysterical. this from the loonies while we have the most "purchased" president in the history of the nation sitting at 1600. they are just mad because Exxon has more $$$ than SEIU. Awwwwww.
Pelosi was so upset that she had an expression!
