The conservative blogosphere is buzzing this morning about news that President Obama relied on a teleprompter for his remarks to students at the Graham Road Elementary School in Falls Church, Virginia. And it would surely be funny if he had. But it doesn’t appear that he did.
Obama held two separate sessions at the school — the first with students and a second for the media. And while he did use two teleprompters for his comments to the media he did not use them for his discussion with the students.
The White House confirmed to TWS that the teleprompters were used for his remarks to the press, not with students.

I was a roadie for a while, so I can't help but picture all of the logistics involved in getting that Teleprompter to the event, set up, and checked out… to address a classroom full of 6th graders. Too funny.
What's even sadder is that I think some of those are monitors so he can hear himself. The center one looks to be pointed out. This is just too funny.

I'm personally offended that my president can't speak to me without a 'prompter. Just listen to anything he says off the cuff and you understand why he has it. I saw a clip of "W" speaking recently (file footage from the presidency) and he is a much better speaker. He could at least think on his feet.

It's remarkable how many people in positions of power have commented on "how articulate" Obama is, and that he is "probably one of the best orators in the history of our Nation". etc, etc. etc. If you look just under the surface, you'll see that just about every time he speaks without he beloved teleprompters he tends to ramble and put his foot in his mouth. He didn't use a teleprompter when he stumped for Coakley, for example.
Comparing Obama to the great orators of our country like Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, John C. Calhoun, Daniel Webster and others is like comparing a juiced-up Barry Bonds with Hank Aaron.
The President uses the teleprompters to address the media. He needs the teleprompters to stay on his message when talking to the press, so he won't deviate from his talking points and actually say something off the cuff that makes sense.

You have to understand the POTUS has a whole staff of writters who evaluate each word he says and its impact. I've never seen a press corp more addicted to a President than the current reporters in the White House who follow him around. The POTUS is so rookie at what he's doing that he's totally relient on speech writers to put words in his mouth. His talent is in delivery of speeches only. I'm not talking substance, just delivery. He could read the back of a candy bar wrapper and make some reporters and Americans think he's the most intelligent man on earth. It's clear he didn't get elected on his merits but only on his ability to give rhetoric speeches that stir the emotions of the unenlightened people. Of course that's what community organizers do – provide leadership to the uneducated.
