I believe that people of good will everywhere hold life as sacred. I hope we will be able to convince people of the error of their ways rather than just go for a war of attrition.

One can only hope his family believes in redemption and that they, and he, did some form of penance.
I don't remember a lot of sorrowful eulogies when Nixon died. Keeping in mind that Nixon did nothing in office to enrich himself or his family (unlike Murtha). Nixon also never publicly slandered troops that were in a warzone (unlike Murtha).
Many people (including me) believe Murtha gleefully gave aid and comfort to the enemy, arguably endangering American troops, in order to increase his own prestige as a politician. If it's wrong to speak ill of a man like that, I don't want to be right.
He did what he had to do for his communities at a time when help was needed. He campaigned, "Jack's for Jobs" and he delivered. The revitalization of his district during his tenure will stand the test of time and the rest of you can stick it. He will be missed by his district.

One doesn't enlist in the Marine Corps as anything other than an E-1 scummy recruit maggot. I suppose it was different in the branch of service in which you enlisted. I've heard of Officers entering the service with a rank greater than O-1, but it never occurred to me that enlistees could enter at a rank greater than E-1.

I went in as E-3 because I already had my EMT-P cert., as well as, some other certs. but that was Navy & I was a corpsman (HM). I haven't heard anybody going in higher than E-3 without prior military or ROTC especially since E-4 up requires NCOS, not saying it hasn't happened, I just don't know of any.
Actually, in Murtha's case, "Corpse" is the appropriate pronunciation.

At Parris Island, we had a guy (Mike Phelan) in our platoon who had served a term in the Army. He was an E-1. No special treatment, but he graduated as an E-2. Yes – he had been in the Army, but had to go through Parris Island.

I live in PA and I am praying for the people here to wake up. I post as much info as I can on my facebook page (have both liberal and conservative friends but my liberal friends are a whole lot more conservative than they give themselves credit for so there is hope for them yet!).
