Well, yes — think of how much more effective a fighting force we would have had in World War II if, when Germany declared war on the U.S. four days after Pearl Harbor, had we reached out to the National Socialist German Workers Party community here at home and affirmatively made them officers in the Third Army. Think of the crack, Bund-approved German translators we would have had!

I am completely unsurprised by this revelation. I'm even less surprised that it was kept silent for as long as it was. Keeping a lid on it to chase down connections and try to apprehend everyone possible is not only laudable, but necessary. As an ex-military man, I applaud the actions taken by the military and the administration to protect our soldiers.
And, they are merely allegations at this point. It is possible that the allegations were completely baseless. There is rather large anti-Muslim sentiment in the military – believe me, it is an unavoidable consequence of being at war with Iraq and Afghanistan for so long. I hated the enemy, and it is hard to avoid stereotyping of civilians, especially in a guerrilla warfare environment.
On the other hand, if the allegations prove true, the administration and the military are going to have to make some tough choices. Clearly, Military Intelligence is not up to the task of properly vetting candidates for military positions. Infiltration of the DoD will continue as long as we have a clearly defined enemy (which we do,of course) that we refuse to discriminate against.
The military is one arena where political correctness has no value. Diversity is not worth the life of one soldier.
If our leaders would step back and let the field commanders decide proper rules of engagement necessary to win, there would be little or no need for Arabic translators. In the event an "enemy combatant" was lucky enough to be captured (rather than eliminated), we could always give them the option of supplying their own translator.

I knew a crusty old Lt. Col. from the Vietnam days, who was just hanging on til he could retire out with 25 years. In regards to the political nature of the higher ranks, he told me over some beers discussing my upcoming re-enlistment:

My dad was a mustang Marine colonel who was advised at one point that he could make general if he could learn to be more politically correct. He retired too.

Well, it looks like I chose the right service. The Marines always seemed like they would be a little more BS resistant than other branches, but it's sad that even in the Corps political correctness is now a litmus test for command.
Gen Casey should be fired. He's no longer worthy of his rank and stature. He has placed politics above the lives of his troops. And there is no place in the military for his kind of fool. It is past time to purge the military of the Gen Casey types. First job of a leader is to take care of his troops. Gen Casey has failed in that regard. I got no respect for him. I'm just glad I'm not in the military anymore, because I'd turn my back on him or would salute him with my left hand as jesture of contempt.

The problem with the military is that at least 75% of the commissioned officers have graduated from one of the re-education centers. What has changed?
So, for some of you life is like a horse race. You need to handicap the runners because success is defined as accomplished if they are all tied at the finish line. Of course, there will be no new world records established, only mediocrity.
The tactics in Afghanistan are criminal with enemy assets dropping their arms and not allowed to be targeted, moving in to another position, and again firing. Our men are also being denied use of our technological superiority in that fire cannot be called down on enemy positions lest there "might be" civilians inside with them, who "might be" harmed. Instead our men are subjected to fields of fire.
That there is no outrage that we have lost our people because of these tactics is an indication of how decadent and degenerate a society we now are. Any commander in previous times, who caused unnecessary losses among his personnel, would have been courtmartialed and punished. Why I've seen people courtmartialed for losing equipment, let alone lives.
What has happened to make our people unnecessarily expendable? Decadence and degeneracy prevail in our society and now in our military.
Yeah most people think of that image when they think of MacArthur. Not the fact that When the Japanese attacked the Philappines 10 Hours after Pearl Harbor, they caught the US army air corp (No Air Force in those days) on the ground because the head of the air corp was told not to attack Japananese forces because it would be provacative ( again 10 hours after Pearl Harbor) Mac refused to see his staff for a day after the attack on Pearl. Later in the war other Generals under him did all the work and he took the credit. A politcal General before his time
