Is this the new face of the Republican Party? A contender in 2012? Or the male version of Sarah Palin?
In a 24/7, horse-race handicapping, ADD, MSM culture, it’s never too soon to start speculating, is it? So let’s beat them to the punch as we await the great Health Care Showdown and get your thoughts here.

Love the comment about the male version of Palin. Thanks for that.
Well, lets hope like hell the answer to you question is none of the above…k
Whoa, Phil Hartman has a show? I thought he was dead.
It seems like the day after his election there were those proclaiming him
the rights answer to baroke obummer
Is this the new face of the Republican Party?
NO
A contender in 2012?
NO
Or the male version of Sarah Palin?
NO
it’s never too soon to start speculating, is it?
YES
Everything is not so easy to put in a tidy box, and rushing judgement has been the biggest reason we're in the mess that we are in today. We need calm, reasoned, common sense, along with honor, integrity, and consequences.
I'd say Scott Brown is the male version of Romney.
Republicans should promise to repeal the bill the minute they are in the majority again which hopefully won't be too long. I'm still mad at them for paving the way to an Obama presidency in the first place.
If "41" goes no further than the US Senate, Scott Brown's role in our country's contemporary political history is already quite remarkable. He fulfilled a destiny by standing up against all odds, persevering, inspired people nationally and internationally, and won as a Republican in the People's Republic of Massachusetts.
Scott Brown fulfilled a destiny — he was the right man, at the right time, with the right message for the January 19, 2010 Massachusetts Senatorial election win. He changed the national dialogue on ObamaCare and the 60 vote Democratic majority in the Senate — what an impact for one senatorial election! However, Brown's halo slipped with the yea vote toward advancing the "jobs" bill.
2012 Presidential candidates will be declaring about a year from now — a lot can happen between now and then — and RNC Convention time. Just think, a few weeks ago, most people were unaware of Paul Ryan. . .and there is now some buzz about his potential. All I know is that I would rather have a President with real-world, business expertise and transparent achievement records vs a part-time lecturer/community organizer with no real world experience, a penchant for distorting truths, and a dubious life story with no visible supporting documentation — ie academic records are under lock and key – why?
2012 can not get here fast enough and I believe that the candidate of destiny will rise from the ranks and win the Presidency away from the current office holder.
There were and they really didn't know a damned thing about him.
He won't be the GOP's candidate in 2012 ( God willing ! ) and he's no Palin.
And Romney is sort of the second coming of Tom Dewey ( aka "THE LITTLE MAN ON TOP OF THE WEDDING CAKE "), though not as experienced, accomplished, or intelligent.
Beat me to the punch. Yeah, it's time for names to be thrown around but I'm not liking the looks of things. I have the sense that Romney and everyone's darling of the moment, Brown, are already campaigning with intent. A much larger pool of prospects are needed and I don't want to see TPDB push someone on us like they did with McCain.
HAHAHA!!
Brown's a lawyer and you're an idiot. Case closed.
Glad you liked it, but I'm afraid than few will know /understand the reference.
Still, it's who Romney always makes me think of. ;^)
There are plenty of good solid qualified Republicans. He (or she) must be a principaled, baggage free clean slate, with out a series of questionable votes hanging around their necks.
On the other hand they'll be running against an enormously UNPOPULAR incumbent failure of Carteresque proportions
The GOP could run Barney Fife and draw 50% and 45 states.
Jb
Brown seems like a light-weight but better then Croakley…
No way Presidential material at this point…
Paul Ryan was REALLY impressive the way he spoke fo Obamster for 6 minutes without taking a breath!!.
and no teleprompter…
Amen!
Also probably all future candidates will have to make even their kindergarten academic records accessible. . .no more poseurs!

If Romney is the nominee it's 50-50
If Paul Ryan is the nominee, it's 80-20 …I'm likin' PR alot.. so far… Seems to good to be true..Where has he been hiding?…Got the look, the tounge, and the brains…The Bamster was ready to explode when Ryan was lecturing him at the "HCSummit"
Oh yeah, Ryan's sharp and quick. I like the idea of Coburn and Bachmann being considered, too. We'll see what happens. But even with the damage she's suffered, I'd rather see the Rs run Palin over Romney any day.
Well, it would help expose those who were Marxists and dummies from early on. But I'd rather have an adult with an ounce of common sense. That would be an ounce more than Hussein has.
Nope, if it's Romney, which it won't be ( just like his father, who tried and tried to become president and never did ), Obama will win in a walk.
Ryan's not bad, did a bang-up job at the " HC trap", has been doing his job, but please………………no more damned Congress critters, but at least he's not a Senator !
Brown's a "Massachusettes Republican". That's like saying a "Guinness Light", or " 'Gimme a Molson, but one that doesn't smell like cat pee."
Or a "light hitting shortstop but he's a bad glove too" or "He isn't that fast, but he's not quick either".
He would have to really "Cowboy up" and get right with the fiscal and social conservative wings of the party to have a chance. That will be impossible because I presume he wants to be reelected.
I'd expect Mass. voters to be their usual leftist selves, and soon.
Ww-up
Right now…I like Ryan / Bachman…The Trolls would go nuts ….

If the Bamster can be Pres, anybody can…But Romney won't make it thru the primaries..Has as much chance as the Huckabee..
The next president will have a monumental task of reversing the severe corrosion that is about to topple this country. We need someone more than just anyone but. Browne for a brief moment captured the Zeitgeist. However, at 50 nothing points to him being the right person for the president. On the other hand his vote on the jobs bill is evidence he is not. But the hour is young. We need someone like NJ Gov. Christy. Who will tell it like it is and deal with like it is real. There are other rational adults like Bachman, DeMint, Coburn, McCotter, Palin, Ryan, perhaps even Santorum, Gingrich or even Kasich.
Indeed. I'd like to see a lot more patriots willing to make a stand, and soon.
I wasn't sure if that earlier post when through…. site chopped it up so much I just deleted it.
They are all safe picks but we need much more. So we have to make sure whoever we elect will realizes that this is it. We need to tackle entitlements, energy, and the bureaucracy. We need to make it hard for government to enact government centric programs that turn the masses into junkies. We also need to shut the spigot off of tax dollars so the politicians cannot use it cover their tracks. We need to end earmarks and other political payoffs. Locally we have to do the same while making our schools teach the history of this great country. A majority of people are starving for that kind of leadership. We will provide the votes as long as the representatives mop up the mess.
Jb
Don't see SB going anywhere past where he is now…Might be the Massachusettes contribution Peter Principle theory…
6 years from now he'll be traded for a real Senator to be named later…
JamesbI think you got it right. We have already been moved so far the the left and into the red(pun intended), that we need a commander in chief with the cajones and the charisma to fundamentally untransfom us back to about 1912 or so.
The Cverton window has been moved way too far to the left…
No, Barry had the race card, the Daley Machine, Acorn, and union thugs……………….which nobody else has ever had, in that combination, before, on the heels of 8 solid years of the MSM's constant drumbeat of hate propaganda against #43.
And just look at the mess Obama has made; so no, not "everyone" can or should be president.
This presidency, had it been in a book of fiction or made as a movie, would have been laughed out of existence, as being too far fetched!
Romney won't make it out of the primaries………………yet again, and his wife wasn't thrilled that he threw all of that money on his last venture.
Agreed, the Huckster has no chance at all; thank GOD !
Yes, definately. A couple of no stick, journey men "congress critters".
The media would love another "Dem Light" semi-liberal Republic – a McCain with "hair and abs."
See Senate "Jobs vote".
lol! ya, fer sure – one with range and "gits".
John Thune.
Obviously there's alot of ancillary issues to a White House run. It'll cost at least $300 million dollars, Obama will be tapping cash sources from all over the Middle East and alternate places, considering he'll be a hated, failed incumbent.
Serious candidates need to be ready to hit the groung running after the midterms and the holidays. You'll know by who starts lining up appearences in New Hampshire and Iowa, the traditional "jumping off spots". The winning candidate has to have a volunter "infrastructure" a ground game, ready to go by then.
That's why I know Palin isn't serious, she's not getting organized.
Romney, on the other hand just published a book and he's ramping up.
hey, they deleted the O b a m a should have been subjected to a media c o l o n o s c o p y comment?
Get a clue.
And didn't I read or hear somewhere that there's some kind of wording in this bill that says it can't be repealed?
Brown is a RINO. He can't be trusted. Don't forget just a couple of weeks after getting his job, he voted against the Republican party for Obozo's stimulus, I mean jobs bill.
In the UK you don't have a wide open border with Mexico with unlimited millions of people ready to pour in for freebies. That's just one reason.
"The USA pays twice as much for its drugs and healthcare than other countries, why do you put up with it?", Because we get twice the quality of Health Care too. Where do most heads-of-state, and foreign billionaires – all who could afford to go anywhere – come for medical treatment? I'll give you a hint – it ain't the UK. The vast majority of Americans are quite happy with their Insurance-based health care and the treatment they receive. Could the system be improved? Sure. – but what Obama is proposing isn't an improvement..
In order to save our country as we know it. We must purge both the Democratic and Republican parties of the Elitist Liberals and Progressives.
We must elect non career leaders that will enact term limits so they do not become career Politicians.
I am donating, and encourage others to donate to Conservative ( I do not mean progressive) primary candidates all over the country.
If we are to survive we must take control of our country.
Political Links
What thrills me is this may inspire democrats to get some backbone against this healthcare thing. Brown won the retiring Massachusetts democratic congressman's district, so the surge for republicans will continue with this seat going republican. Surely, democrats are not so dumb as to continue over the cliff like the lemmings they are.
Plus we pay more for drugs to support further research. Those costs aren't passed along to foreign purchasers, so you're welcome.
I'd say Scott Brown is the male version of Romney.
Tresise, The Constitution is a limit of federal powers in order to keep the people from being enslaved by the government. The Federal government does not have the authority under the constitution to mandate anything on the people. What they are trying to do is a violation of the law of the land, the constitution. We the people of the United States understand this and is one of the main reasons we left where you are and started our own country. We know you can't understand something as simple as freedom given where you live.
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"
-Thomas Jefferson
Of course it will cost a lot of jobs in the private sector. But, Obama will need to hire a ton of new government workers to facilitate his new healthcare bureaucracies. And of course we know the government is an EOE and has all kinds of regulations to ensure minorities go to the front of the line. Obama Healthcare = Reparations. Tavis Smiley, you just need to wait a little longer.
The next POTUS will have to have steel gonads to straighten up the disaster Obama (in his infinite ignorance and arrogance) will leave behind. Scott Brown’s have shrunk since he got elected. I don’t see how he could even be an option at this point. Right off the bat, he voted against Republicans on a bogus bill jobs which will only add spending, debt and deficit. Scott Brown is just more of the same. I say definitely NOT POTUS material.
Perhaps, (and me too) but the proverbial "bar" has been lowered considerably in recent presidencies. Presidents used to be these "story book" type personalities, and information about their private lives and/or proclivities were less common knowledge. Reporters knew JFK was "poonhound" but suppressed the info as a "private issue" (wink, wink, nod, nod) but by Clinton, perhaps the first "internet generation" president, the dirt is everywhere.
That's what makes the secrecy, or more precisely the iron-handed control of Obama's shady past id troubling to me.
He wrote two books, that basically is his background, and that's it.
I'd like to see his college transcripts. He obviously didn't take any macroeconomics.
I concur.
I agree. I need to point out, (living just north of Mass.) that expecting a 'red-meat' conservative from Mass is like expecting to hit Powerball every time you play. Ain't gonna happen, people. What he is, however, is a great start from a state where there hasn't been an "R" senator in over 30 years. Little steps people. Can't expect miracles overnight. That's Obamazombie territory. You know, pink clouds, unicorns, and fuzzy bunnys.
Scott Brown would be a perfect choice for VICE PRESIDENT. He's a moderate Repulican with a military background and could help pull in the states from the Northeast that lean Democrat. Run him with a conservative candidate for President and you have a formula that will beat "O" in 2012.
twice as much for drugs, eh? I get my prescriptions filled at Wal-Mart. $4 per, WITHOUT insurance. Nothing like free-market capitalism, eh?
"I live in the UK looking at the this debate over basic health care, I cant understand why so many people are against something so basic and something we have had in the UK for decades."
First, I highly doubt that. I notice you don't mention having huge issues finding dentists who accept new NHS patients, or having to wait years on NHS waiting lists for a necessary operation, etc. I also notice that every person who can afford to, comes to the US from other countries for our supposedly "awful healthcare".
That should be dead where it stands. They can't amend the constitution with just a few words in some shady bill. DemoKKKraps have been playing dirty for far too long and WE must stop them, once and for all, one way or another.
Good points: he is far, FAR better than Coakley would have been, or any other Dimocrat that would have been anointed by the Liberal-Progressive Machine in Mass. That, plus he campaigned as anti-ObamaCare, and won because of it.
Bad points: we really know almost nothing about him. He has just gotten to the Senate, isn't it a wee bit early to start talking about his Executive branch prospects?
Or steel ovaries, perhaps?
"Or the male version of Sarah Palin?
NO"
That's because the male version of Sarah Palin has already been President, from 1980 to 1988. My only Commander In Chief, I'm proud to say.
That wasn't a challenge to the President to do better…those were just words. There has to be a gauntlet thrown down in front of the President. A backyard line drawn in the dirt etc…
Scott Brown will be just a Massachusetts Republican. That is all.
Senators do not make good Presidents. Candidates with executive experience is required…look what we have now.
Nix Gingrich. A post mentioned above, no poseurs. He is not a man of principles or morals.
That will never happen as long as the Old Guard stay in office. All of the things you mentioned are business as usual, and have been for 40 years. Once all of the political lifers are out of office, we can begin to work on our social and economic health, but not before. The Dems especially derive alot of power from entitlements and earmarks.
We like Brown because he kills Obamacare (at least by Senate rules, until they break them).
I would not vote for him. If he somehow wins a presidential primary <shudder> I and millions of others would vote for a 3rd party – EVEN IF THAT MEANS 4 MORE YEARS OF OBAMA! Better that than a 2nd progressive party in the Republicans – just moving there less quickly.
Yuck.
Definately. It would need to be a DeMint kind of Republican to pull that off – and someone like that wouldn't stand for it, betraying principles for NewEngland votes (that he won't win anyway).
I sorta remember the talk of changing the Constitution to allow Arnold Swarzenegger, pride of the Republican Party, to become President.
That went over real well.
Scott Brown is from Massachucetts. He's about as conservative as John McCain.
Brown supports abortion. That says it all.
Once an entitlement is enacted, it's very hard to remove it. People become addicted in short order.
I absolutely agree. However, repeal would require a filibuster-proof super-majority, and then there's the problem of an Obama veto.
In the words of one well-known economist: "We're soooo screwed!"
I live in the UK looking at the this debate over basic health care, I cant understand why so many people are against something so basic and something we have had in the UK for decades.
The USA pays twice as much for its drugs and healthcare than other countries, why do you put up with it?
You vote in a new president and then when he tries to do what he said he was going to do every one tries and stops him, from the coverage we get in the UK is just mind boggling that such simple basic issues cause such a huge reaction in the USA.
wait till brown bites that hand that got him elected ans starts doing his version of mccain and becomes a rino – dont think brown has anyway to go but so in the future, especially when it comes time for reelection time in taxxachusetts – in the future, the state's voters will force it on him
I'm 56 years old and wouldn't even run for town council based on my "youthful indiscretions."
With "morality" having been redefined constantly since the 1960's in this country, I tend to doubt that there's anyone out there who hasn't done something they don't want thrown back at them in a political campaign
I don't believe Scott Brown is a RINO
Scott Brown is a common sense/reasonable guy who will thrive to get things done in Washington. We certainly don't want a "far-right" loony in the White House, like the "far-left" radical currently occupying the White House.
Mr. Walsh, you forgot to mention Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. He is presidential material as well.
How much you wanna bet Brown votes the left way in the future. It was just too easy for him to get elected. You have already seen how he voted lately. If he is really a conservative – then he is like McCain – not really. Or as they say, a progressive conservative.
Excellent post. Love the Moslon reference!
If we hadn't just been yanked so far to the left I might agree with you about a VP concession. Brown is going to be a hard sell and a liability to the non-New England rest of the country, though.
not sure why as your comment pretty much sums up how Americans will scrutinize their candidates going forward. . .no more poseurs. . .no more OJT Presidents.
What about a Presidential debate where the candidates present a "business plan" for the country — just as a CEO would to the board of director?
That is EXACTLY what is going on. The US market underwrites medical research and pharmaceuticals for the entire world.
If the socialist countries which regulate drug prices actually had to pay their fair share of medical R&D, their health care plans would go bankrupt within a year (at the latest).
Exactly!
If socialist countries had to pay their fair share of medical R&D, they'd go bankrupt in short order.
ROFLMAO
I like Sara "legs" Palin myself but i dont see her doing it in 2012
It still has a looong way to go
alot can happen
The US has a constitution that limits the authority of the federal government to pass laws to provide universal health care. In the past 100 years Progressive Marxist's have been trying to make the consttution irrelevant. In the past year our constitution is again being tested by an administration that believes that they can ignore the laws they have sworn to uphold. Americans in growing numbers are realizing that this agenda is subverting not only the laws of the land but the character of the nation by attempting to create a culture of entitlement which is not the nature of the American people. Yes, everyone wants quality health care, but not at the price of our republic and our rights as citizens. And financed with deficts that our children will inherit and place the country in danger of bankrupcy.
;^)
It will baffle regular Americans for years how this guy got past the common sense filters and got elected. I'll concede and understand that the media assassination of G.W. Bush (some of which was deserved fiscal responsibility wise) but any Democrat was going to win. McCain had no chance bucking that head wind, but Obama? What a disaster…
Sheesh.
count the cemetery votes and throw away the overseas milttary votes . . then count acorn car trunk votes, voting machines that are rigged (as in city of chicago machines). . .and count all the other Dem tricks. . .the election of 2008 was not that close. . .Obama votes are paid by Soros — as part of the Move Amerika to Communism Movement. . .
My goodness == Sen DeMint is pushing back today on NoBama's land grab. . .we are lucky to have Jim DeMint fighting for Ameriaca
The MSM went after Brown as though he was a woman, when that "BEEFCAKE" photoshoot layout turned up, so he's an easy target. He also has a loose cannon kind of way, in the heat of excitement, vis-a-vis that horrible dig at both his daughters.
But you're right about the stupids out there, who vote for plos for all the wrong reasons! Hell, part of the selling point, for JFK, was that he was "good looking"; which I never thought he was, BTW, but from whence that "GOOD HAIR" crap came from, when talking about presidential candidates.
Hmmmmmmmmm…….Palin/Brown for 2012? She's "cute" but is a REAL Conservative and he's got "good hair".
Agree — on Ryan so do more and more Americans — even press . . . .latest example
http://money.cnn.com/2010/03/04/news/economy/paul...
Appreciate the thoughful question. I can only speak for myself. I used to live near a housing project. Goverment provided, housing, medical, education, retirment, food stamps, heating, & air conditioning to residents. . They depended on the government for everything. As a result they were ungrateful, resentful, dependent, & in many cases criminal. Look at continental Europe. United States protected them in the Cold War and many Euros resent us. This is less so in England and we appreciate our English cousins, but I beleive Englands military to be in decline. Great Soldiers, just smaller military. Currently over 50% of our medical is run through government — elderly, poor people,.retired military. Obama wants to in essence put us all on the govt plan. We can not afford our current obligations and he is spending us toward destruction. Look at the numbers.
Good points. . .I got your original comments in my email and agreed with them — not sure what happened.
I tend to agree with you
I have usually been one to give those elected an opportunity
to settle in and make their mark but at this time we need our elected
to come out swinging.
I didnt follow S. Brown much but when I saw him at his win speech I was not impressed
"youthful indiscretions."
everyone has a few skeletons in the closet
I have the whole damn catacombs
I cant understand why so many people are against something so basic and something we have had in the UK for decades.
You vote in a new president and then when he tries to do what he said he was going to do every one tries and stops him
I think you are missing the point of the disagreement.
It is not that we are against HC, it is that we are against the WAY in which
it is trying to be implemented.
As for the POTUS he is NOT trying to do what he was said.
Will we let these HEATHEN pro-choicers ruin OUR party? I don't THINK SO!
Scott BROWN is a DEMOCRATE!
