David Broder is known as the “Dean of the Washington press corps,” but it can more accurately be said that he’s the “David Gergen of the Washington press corps:” the apostle of conventional wisdom/custodian of institutional memory/protector of Democrat Party interests/and non-rocker of the boat.
Broder is the kind of journalist who facilitates the smooth operation of the rackets, the scribe who keeps the rubes out there in Flyoverland thinking that the game isn’t rigged, that somebody inside the Beltway takes those noble words inscribed on the D.C. buildings and monuments at face value, and that here in America the people — not the powerful — rule.

Which is why he could hardly let slide his Post colleague Dana Milbank’s astonishing act of lèse majesté against the Emperor Hussein in the form of this extraordinary paean to the genius of Obama hatchet man Rahm Emanuel, which included these gems:
Obama’s first year fell apart in large part because he didn’t follow his chief of staff’s advice on crucial matters. Arguably, Emanuel is the only person keeping Obama from becoming Jimmy Carter.
Obama chose the profane former Clinton adviser for a reason. Where the president is airy and idealistic, Rahm is earthy and calculating. One thinks big; the other, a former House Democratic Caucus chair, understands the congressional mind, in which small stuff counts for more than broad strokes.
Obama’s problem is that his other confidants — particularly Valerie Jarrett and Robert Gibbs, and, to a lesser extent, David Axelrod — are part of the Cult of Obama. In love with the president, they believe he is a transformational figure who needn’t dirty his hands in politics.
Anyone who’s spent five minutes playing in the journalistic big leagues knows a purpose pitch when he sees it, which forced the Dean to leap to the defense of his beloved President and administer a very uncollegial brushback to Milbank:
It sounded, for all the world, like the kind of orchestrated leaks that often precede a forced resignation in Washington.
Except that the chief of staff doesn’t usually force the president out. When George H.W. Bush had had enough of John H. Sununu, of course it was Sununu who walked. Maybe the sources on these stories think Obama is the one who should leave.
Now Milbank may be something of a buffoon — as when he showed up for a television interview about Dick Cheney’s hunting accident dressed like this:

– but in this case he just may have been right. What if it was a message — from the Chicago Machine to Barack Obama, instead of the other way around? A message that read: you’re not getting the job done.
You civilians aren’t supposed to know this, but the Washington press corps is probably the most insulated group of reporters in American journalism. As political journalism has come to be entirely centered on Washington, the Washington bureau is the ne plus ultra of postings: once you’re there, you stay there forever. Like barkers at a perpetual carnival, they keep touting the same acts, but with different Fat Ladies, Little Egypts, and Dog-Faced Boys, and hope that an infinite queue of suckers keeps crossing their palms with coin before they realize they’ve been had.
Had these crack reporters spent any time covering either the intelligence business or gangland, however, they might actually have some insight into what’s really going on with the current administration, which combines both disciplines in nearly equal measure, with a hearty dollop of Saul Alinsky poison thrown in just for Frankfurt School laughs.
For example, does any of them ever stop and ask why — aside from horse-race considerations — President Obama is in such a desperate rush to ram through “health-care reform,” oblivious to the electoral consequences both for himself and his party, as if he were a kind of legislative suicide bomber? Could there possibly be some other reason to explain the Punahou Kid’s arrogant disdain for the public, the willingness to treat the members of his own party as cannon fodder, and the logical implication from his own words that “health-care reform” now is worth a one-term presidency later? And if so, what is it?
Not only won’t they ask these questions, they won’t even think them. So, as a public service, Big Journalism offers them this handy primer:
Here endeth the lesson.
For now.

Sycophants in Washington DC?
Say it isn't so…
This '**president' has such a bloated and narcissistic ego it is amazing that he apparently believes he's doing a 'great job' kinda like the people advising Saddam before the fall of Baghdad…
Obama is a prop, selected to be the face of Rahm' presidency.
So, Broder thinks he's the David Rotten Gerkin of the Washington press corpse. What a pathetic creature. It's getting pretty crowded in the kneewell of our dear leader's desk. Maybe, Barney Frank would be willing to take the overflow.
David Broder the ultimate statist loving beltway reporter whose fed at the peoples trust trough for far too long. Being the elder statesman of Washington horseshit, he’ll lead the way saving, Barry the Boy King! The “Dean” of the Washington press corps is a devout leftist whose credibility has long since faded, in real America, or otherwise known as outside the beltway.
Some good cartoons about Obama's truthfulness and arrogance at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/obama-...
Mr. Walsh, thank you for holding these pukes' feet to the fire. Like roaches in the night, they need a spotlight and a powerful exterminator applied to them.
Nah, I'm pretty sure Barney is all full up in there, maybe Gibbs..?
I hear Lindsay Graham is spending a lot of time under Rahm's.
Correction – > Even the Guardian or Independent over there are more honest than ours…and that's saying something.
He's bucking for the globalist "ass kisser award", he's just as bad as Chairman O….
Yeah, the lttle Jerkwadd is still drinking Al's AGW Kool-Aid.
Interesting, Michael. You know, the only explanation that we've had as to Obama's craziness has not been completely satisfying. The explanation is, of course, that Obama is a hard-core ideologue who will do anything and everything to institute socialized medicine, thus getting control over 1/6th of our economy and ultimately gaining total control over every aspect of our lives. As long as he gets the bill passed, it will remain forever and ever, and even if he loses the next election, he'll win the war. Plus, once everyone sees the utter brilliance of his ways, we will eventually return him to the Presidency so he can finish the job!
That explanation is not fully satisfying, and I cannot put my finger on the exact reasons why. Maybe it's because Obama does seem an awful lot like a Manchurian Candidate, an empty suit who was propped up to get a specific job done. He does seem to act like a guy who's been given his marching orders and he's going to follow them, even if it means going off a cliff.
Even a true believer sometimes needs a push to get him over the cliff.
" Emanuel is the only person keeping Obama from becoming Jimmy Carter"….
Too late, that's why Jimmah is so happy….Finally, someone worse then him, …. he won't go down in history as the "Worst President in the World"…..or of the last 60 years…
Only 1052 or less days until dear leader is no longer president. http://obamaclock.org/
Pray for dear leader. Psalms 109:8
Stop trying to rationalize these people. Don't you understand?
OBAMA AND THE TOP TIER DEMS ARE ON A POLITICAL KAMAKAZI RUN!!! Assured in their belief that they will bail just before the end, their golden parachutes landing them in the Elysian Fields of million dollar lobbying/consulting jobs and faux book deals, and speaking engagements.
http://www.clintonfoundation.org/contributors/pag...
If Bill Clinton got X $10 millions from Saudi and Norway(?!!) for his luke warm shenanigans, what do you think the One is dreaming of? World president? Convert Licoln's memorial into the Temple of the Oneness? His future only fails if he DOESN"T go down in flames trying this.
Typical Obama ….Hires a fellow Chicago thugster to be hatchet man and confidant…..on important policy items, ignores his council, listens to the "true believers"..(Jarrett/Gibbs)
.more proof of Obama incompetence and permanent ":tin horn" political status…
Don't go looking behing the curtain. It sounds as if the beltway "reporters" are the king's family hostage theme in reverse.

Got Jimmah smiling so much his face is cracking.
I'm pretty sure the kool aid is spiked with LSD or a future administration post…
He would fit in with that bunch. Maybe Michelle could use some help in the garden.
Maybe he could be the man's man..?
Jimmah is the one mf that galls me more then Obama.
Can't wait for the day he goes into the ground….
Glad I don't have a TV, so I don't have to be subjected to the "wall-to-wall"..
It will be a national holiday in Israel.
I think it's obvious, he needs to be a man to fill that position.
The general public is finally catching on to the fact the oligarchy is in control. Except for the hardcore 30% Obama supporters made up of black racists and welfare slugs. It's difficult to maintain a con job when the "mark" finally figures it out. And when that happens, the "mark" tends to get very vindictive and wants some SERIOUS retribution. This will get uglier than we have ever seen before as people fight for their Constitution and freedom
Maybe it's just me but it seems pretty obvious why this monstrosity needs to be rammed down our throats, and now.
There really is a very serious crisis approaching health care – Medicare and Medicaid are rapidly going broke. When that happens, the political choices become very few, and very bad. Raise taxes out of site destroying the economy, borrow and print enough money to destroy the economy (look at Greece), and what ever the choice, ultimately, ration health care a.k.a. death panels.
There is no other choice. All government does is ration, and when there's not enough for every one, they have to decide who gets it and who doesn't.
That will destroy the mystique of modern liberalism. Those of us who have private insurance will still have insurance, those that relied on the government, might get health care, depending upon who they know and their political connections.
That's the crisis. And their solution is to force the rest of us on the same sinking ship. After all, know one is happy with the present state of social security (also on its way to bankruptcy), but we are all in it together. The goal is to do the same with health care, so along with decades of campaigning as the saviors of social security, we can expect the same lies about how democrats are going to save our health care from republicans.
some one or some group is pulling the strings, I'm convinced. But I doubt its Emanuel.
Who ever pulled this off is smart enough to stay in the shadows. I don't know if its Soros, Soros might just be the deep pockets some other party is using.
But some one is doing this. I don't believe Obama would ever had stood a chance even against McCain. He's that amateurish.
no kidding. so Rahm is actually holding him back, keeping his boss from bringing his performance as POTUS up to Carter's level?
Its not so much that Broder's a puke, he's just like the rest of the MSM. He's convinced the natural order of life in America is democrats leading the charge to European socialism.
What ever doesn't lead to that end is wrong, and needs to be stopped. And everything that leads to the end, needs to be helped.
The first half is correct, the second is not…
Obama is a prop for Soros…the REAL "James Bond" villain in this little movie…the one bent on the domination of the world, and with the capital to tip and turn things his way…
Think of him as a, "It's a Wonderful Life" Mr. Potter, spinning his webs, but with the means to reach WAY beyond his little version of "Pottersville"… and if we don't shut this all down here and now, our "George Bailey" hallucination will be REAL and INESCAPABLE…
mm
Something like that..
I've been skimming the European on line news for the last couple of years. I concluded the Obama coverage was enough to convince me to never rely on the American MSM again.
I simply don't trust them anymore. My only interaction is I still like a local morning paper – though that's starting to rub me the wrong way – and the evening news on occasion. Everything else is the new alternative media.
Probably a java issue on his paper's end. I've had the same thing happen to me here at BH. One Saturday morning I logged in and had over 450 emails from their server.
I said to myself "self, this is either really good or really bad."
Turned out to be nothing but a bug.
Wow for a second there when I read the headline "Civil War at WaPo" I thought that maybe, just maybe the real journalists were coming out to fight. The I read the first few lines and sighed. I realized that the WaPo only breaks stories, does investigative work or actually acts like members of the fourth estate when their target is GOP or conservatives in general. The job of the fourth estate is not only to keep the people informed on what's going on but to help keep a check on government by doing precisely that without bias. I have to think that a big reason why print journalism is dying is because of this bias that has wormed it's way from the editorial pages where it belongs to the actual news stories. Personally, I'd still like to read the morning paper over coffee or while on the way to work or over breakfast on the weekends. I don't bother anymore as I really don't want to read editorials in every article.
Damn shame really.
We should have somebody 'check under the hood' so to speak…?
So y'all actually didn't know what liberals think of the WaPo, Broder and Rahm?
If the WaPo removed all the kook conservative columnists from its editorial page, it would have a blank sheet left over.
Broder? The Republican beltway grandpa Simpson.
Rahm? The guy who told liberals, in so many words, "You got us elected, now f*** off".
Liberals watch such scuffles amongst various conservative media outlets, conservative pundits and DINOs, and we break out the popcorn.
Now, there's a job for Barney.
There are two types of Liberals, thoughtful and well-meaning but very annoying, and total jack asses like you.
Emmanuel………total case of walking anti-Americanism. My God forgive me,but would it have really been a bad thing if he ended up in one of Hitler's ovens ???
Thanks for reminding us Mr. Walsh that at the end of the day, they are all attending the same cocktail parties, looking foe favors not any different, than the politicians they are supposed to be covering.
The majority are just an arm of the ruling class.
At least Soros won't be around forever. How many former Nazi collaborators are still around causing trouble besides Soros?
Sometimes the carpet doesn't match the drapes?
Well, I certainly hope there isn't a "Mini-me" of him hanging around…
Even excluding that, there are such things as wills, foundations, and powers of attorney that can contribute to the chaos long after he departs for Hell…
That's why I want the creature in a court very soon…just to discover how far the rabbit-hole goes…
Thank you Michael for keeping us updated on the corrupt DC media. It's why I come here and also UK news. Even the Guardian or Independent over there are honest. They've fed us poop for years and for myself I took what they told me as truth. Never again.
"Lid blows off Obama's forgotten scandal Congressmen pry loose evidence of president's illegal cronyism"
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pag...
Any hope they'll followup on this story? How are our tax-dollars being spent? If this story is true it's a worse abuse of power than Nixon. Issa continues to do a good job as a representative of the people. I wish I could say the same about the media but they're just a step away from Pravda or maybe they're arrived.
Let me give you a little tip from Illinois. Dick Durbin has nurtured Barry since his community organizing days. He is the hidden hand behind Obama. Now the hidden hand behind Durbin?… That is another story.
I believe that Obama and his cronies find it hard to believe that the rest of America isn't as stupid as their SEIU and ACORN followers. Hey, it worked in Chicago. I await the day that Rahm gets tired of Bozo's ineptitude and has him eliminated. Isn't that how they do it in Chicago?
Bingo.
One thing that really stunned me about the campaign was how professional the public relations were.
It was almost like a movie script. Boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back is what they taught me back in highschool English. Only they skipped over the boy loses girl part, and went right to the end on election day.
I don't believe in conspiracies, because the logical argument they use to support them is illogical. But to me it just doesn't seem like public faces we see are capable of pulling it off. Look at the health care circus. These people can't even pass this crap when they own Washington.
To pull something like this off, you'd need power in fewer hands, not more. I just have this feeling, something doesn't make sense. And think I'm batting better than .500 on that these days.
It was a movie script. And the MSM was the producer. They sold us Barry's "public relations". I think they are willing dupes. Everyone loves a good love story. (or at least we used to)
im with u mike……
well said, life does imitate art
Maybe, Michael the argument being fought through leaky and corrosive plumbing of the Democrat-Media sewage system, is not what…or who…it appears.
Who abandoned the Democrats in the Scott Brown election in Massachusetts? In droves?
Who was against the removal of the Cadillac health plan, threatening the one constituency in play on the Democrats side that might actually be moved?
Who has the political muscle and the history of a willingness to flex it against the Democrats who fall out of line?
Who was feeling shunned by Obama's failure to deep bow, and his insistence on regal detachment and ring-kissing?
The message may have been much more layered than you think, in a conversation that includes parties who don't appear to be participants at first glance. Look again.

"statist loving beltway reporter"
you touch on an excellent point. if DC isn't the center of the universe, then reporting from there loses its stature. more power means more power & prestige to those who cover it, too. the media has a vested interest in perpetuating this i n c e s t uous situation.

Mahmooth is yet another example of how far off the cliff The Left has fallen in this country. Rationally, objectively, and factually, they are not only in denial, they are filled with a hate for traditional culture that is present in all societies teetering on the precipice of destruction.

Personally I don't believe the MSM can pull it off. They ain't smart enough. Remember Rathergate? They couldn't even pull that off.
As I type this NPR is telling me that the increase in unemployment is up and that's proof the recession is over, the economy is recovering, and all is well.
There's no doubt they're willing dupes. But running it? They couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel.
I agree. I think the MSM was just along for the ride. One thing for sure is they will have to be backed into a corner before they speak ill of Dear Leader.
My favorite line on the economy was today. AP news radio feed…"February new jobless claims was down to 38,000. Which is good because that is almost like Zero".
p.s. I love the "boot" line.
