American Colonel Writes to Spanish Colonel

Responding to a document first published here on 08 March, U.S. Army Colonel Robert J. Ulses writes to Spanish Army Colonel Jesus De Miguel Sebastian.
The letter from Colonel Ulses contradicts the previous memo by a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel.
Risking liberties to read between the lines, the letter might translate: “Situation rectified. Moving to tamp down the controversy. Let’s move on.”
Clearly it’s social grease, designed to spackle over rough spots. Spots that could have gotten our troops killed. I’ll ask some of our people in the next week or so if the situation has improved. You’ll be the first to know.

If you read this with a hint of sarcasm it works much better. I.E. I have been assured that you would not be screwing us over and getting our troops killed. Hopefully Col Ulses is not some PC a$$hole and actually does care about our troops.

What has happened to the upper echelons of our military? They have all become so absorbed in avoiding controversy and covering their rear ends and the troops sort of get lost in the shuffle. If this is indeed a letter verifying that things have improved, them great. Hopefully it stays that way, but if it is not, then Colonel Ulses needs to start looking for a good time to retire. He has lost sight of the military's ultimate goal.

Looks like you've done a great service on behalf of those brave troops at the point of the spear. Keep the light shining on them, Michael.
It's been my experience that most COLs/CAPTs and above are no longer soldiers, sailors, airmen or Marines. They are politicians. Sounds like the Spanish got their panties in a twist when they saw, or were made aware of, the original letter. This guy had to smooth the ruffled feathers. I'd be surprised if the original situation has changed much for the better. But the threat of a visit from MG McHale may spur them to make some improvements before he arrives.

Question, should this letter really be publicized? I know it's improperly marked for classification or maybe the information owner felt that it was not FOUO or sensitive but it sure as heII looks official. It also carrys the names of commanders and their positions as well as mailing addresses. And who supports who where.
I may be being too picky but wouldn't we all rather be safe then sorry? Tell me if I'm just being a nutt.
On the content, it just looks like another incident where a U.S. Military officer, who has been rigurously trained to so, is kissing the lower back side of another foreign commander. What ever happened to the commanders like we see in the old WW2 "movies" who would tell him to light a fire under his a$$ and respond quickly next time or face the same treatment?
I know, it's only in the movies…..now.
