I do. Pelosi's The Word routine was funny. You can't sit there and tell me she didn't plan that one out. And her " you have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it" was a knee slapper. I mean for a progressive, she has some great comedy writers. And Reid's “Obama is a light skin black who doesn’t talk like a black man” was a great tribute to Amos and Andy. I mean it is great that the DNC has taken up Jon Stewart's offer to write their material. Are you telling me that they are serious when they say these things?

The Daily Show sucks and makes me sick. The jokes are ALWAYS unfair and unfunny and, yes, smug. Stewart is arrogant and hateful.

All pigs are created equal, but some are more equal than others? I get it. That sounds reasonable. I admire your tolerance for everybody but me–especially when you know so much about what I think. You are so sweet. I'm sure you feel very comfortable hating the people you hate because Jon Stewart has told you what to do. No regurtitation there.

Jews and Christians (and Muslims and quite a few others) believe there is one G*d. It is nevertheless possible to worship false gods. It is possible to concoct a non-existent
abstraction, call that G*d or Allah, and worship it. This is not inconsistent with the ten commandments.

Suppose I claim that there is one true creator god. His real name is Buddy and he likes messing with people's heads just for laughs. He does not think humans are his best work, but we are a source of amusement. In fact, his favorite TV shows are “Dancing with the Stars” and “Wipeout.” Of course, I worship him in the hope that maybe he will not mess too much with me. Now, do you claim I worship the same god as the Christians and Jews do?

The question is whether worshipers of Allah (or Buddy) understand who their object of worship in a sufficiently similar way to how Jews and Christians understand theirs. I think Buddy and Allah have a lot in common (including that they are fictional, though I suppose Allah prefers antisemitic soap operas to “Wipeout”). Neither has much to do with the true loving creator as Jews and Christians understand him.

There needs to be a commonality between the entities. Buddy says that the only certain way to see him in the afterlife is to kill an infidel. (It is not the ONLY way, just the only CERTAIN way.) This is not consistant with the nature of Yahweh.
I understand your reference, however, if someone is worshiping a lesser or false god, as you said, that does not make their worship the same as worshiping the God in the Judeo-Christian theology. Two people disagreeing on how to worship a god does not create a second god. However, I understand the issue to be: these people are worshiping an entity whom they claim is the same as Yahweh, yet their god has only the name and some of the Old Testament political, social and health rules as Yahweh . The nature of their god is much different than the nature of Yahweh. It is very much different as partially expostulated by another commenter in this thread. Also, very much different as described in their holy books which describe their god and his directives.

We do agree that there is only one God in the sense of the Creator, however, we do not agree that simply thinking that one's god is the same as Yahweh makes it so. Other religions with multiple gods sincerely believe them to be gods in the same sense as Yahweh. That does not make them synonymous. To a Cristian, I would call them false gods, but they are gods to those who worship them and therefore legitimate in their view. The only discernment I would make to those people is to show them the incredible difference a personally involved God makes in people's lives.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me pretty much suggests that there were/are entities who were worshiped as gods by humans other than Yahweh, and acknowledges them accordingly in Mosaic Law.. Seems to me, Allah fits that category in the Christian theology.

The people who sincerely worship something other than Yahweh BELIEVE their God is real. That is my only point. To those who follow Yahweh, other people's gods do not matter. The people of the era were generally accepting of one anothers' gods, and when someone married into the Jews, they were required to leave the gods/idols/worshiped entity behind. I don't hink we disagree. I just think we are saying the same thing in different ways. Except, then, Allah becomes real to people of the Islamic faith, but has very little in common with the Yahweh of the Jews. I would argue MOST ardently that the Allah is not God in my Christian perspective. However, the adherents to this fabrication feel and believe quite differently. It does not help to have Christians and Jews saying the names refer to the same entity when the entity of Allah's nature is often diametrically opposed to Yahweh's nature. I do not believe they are interpretations of the same being. It would take more than a consensus of man to make Allah consistent with Yahweh.
