I flipped through one while in line at the gas station and was shocked to see how anemic it has become: it’s printed on a cheap, matte, flimsy stock, 1/3 of the pages of its heyday, and filled mostly with ads. Know why? Because of idiocy like this:

Apparently Tina Brown was too busy playing paper dolls with Diana Spencer photos in Photoshop to actually put out a magazine this week. It’s obvious that they just completely stopped giving any sort of damn.

Associated Press has just opened an office in North Korea. Maybe Newsweek sees an opening to become the house organ for the Obama Re-Election campaign.
One thing is for sure – idiotic covers like this won't bring it millions of new subscribers.
Although we know not to pronounce the "b" in dumb, unlike the mensa that reads "corpseman" off of TOTUS.
I wonder if the owner of Newsweek ever considered just putting out a magazine with news and straightforward commentary from both sides of the political spectrum? It wouldn't be that hard and might actually revive the dying rag.
I think those Marines were just obeying the latest very important and mission-critical (and PC) Rules of Engagement that require them to urinate away from Mecca.
The dead Taliban just happened to be northeast (Unlike so many these days, my primary education consisted of adequate instruction in geography), lying in the direction in which Marines are now required by regulations and probably the Uniform Code of Military Justice, to relieve themselves.
If Taliban don't want to be piddled on after we take them out, they should have the good sense to attack us from the direction of Mecca so they would be prostrate closer to that sacred portal to green fields, 72 virgins, and milk and honey and our Marines would, respecting the religion that motivates their savage enemy — as we all know their co-religionists world-wide do in their treatment of non-Muslims — turn in the other direction when nature calls.
As for "Newsweek," that's what the Marines really should have been wee-wee'ing on, but I think they keep it handy for those desperate times when they run out of GI-issue TP and Baby Wipes.
I'm a little puzzled on something regarding these latest Rules of Engagement that cover evacuation of fluids when nature calls. What are our Marines supposed to do when the wind is blowing hard toward Mecca? Do they point into the wind and whiz all over themselves for King and Country? I suppose so. Marines almost always obey the lawful orders of their superiors.

BTW—don't criticize the new stock the magazine is printed on—it's much more absorbent and makes for a much better cage lining and toilet paper.

Before the internet age, I used to buy Newsweek every other week just for the George Will columns. That was the only worthwhile part; now it's useless– a predictable, redundant liberal voice available everywhere.

This is the same magazine that put a WWII hero George H. W. Bush on the cover with the title "The Wimp Factor." That they would shamelessly in contrast depict this President in such a glowing manner, only shows how far removed from reality the writers and publishers really are.
