I imagine that the journalism profession has always attracted more than its fair share of people who are left of center. So in a way, the Journolist does not come as any great surprise. But what does stand out about it is the glaring in-your-face nature of the whole thing.
You see, the old school liberals in journalism, even though they were left-of-center, wanted to be journalists first and ideologues second. There was a code of professionalism, admittedly not always followed, that called on them to put the pursuit of truth first. (How one defines the truth is always the question.) Many of them would not even register to vote, or at least not register to vote with a party affiliation, because of they wanted to somehow conform to this code.

JournoList stands out because of the hubris of this new batch of liberal journalists. Forget old school; they are quite content to pass along emails and concoct plans to label people as “racist” who happen to raise questions about Jeremiah Wright.
The old timers were journalists first, liberals second. The new crop is clearly made up of those who are liberals first and journalists second. Indeed, their journalism is not an end in itself but a means to achieving their liberal ends. When the New Left began its Long March Through the Institutions in the sixties, it began with the universities and other centers of power. It is culminating in the media world.
And what a choice they have made.
Theodore H. White warned in The Making of the President 1972:
The power of the press in America is a primordial one. It sets the agenda of public discussion; and this sweeping political power is unrestrained by any law. It determines what people will talk and think about—an authority that in other nations is reserved for tyrants, priests, parties, and mandarins.”
The Making of the President 1972 (New York: Antheneum, 1973) p 245
Oscar Wilde offered, “In America the President reigns for four years and journalism governs forever and ever.”

But there is good news in all of this. Absent the alternative media on the Internet—these guys would never have been caught. They would have been able to maintain the charade that they are “working journalists” and quietly continued with their plots and schemes. They are no doubt continuing to communicate with each other in the same manner that they did on JournoList.
But the veil has been torn from their faces. And their “analysis” has been revealed for what it is: political hackery.

"… the veil has been torn from their faces."
And come November 2010 and 2012, their Power and Influence over Americans will be torn from their hands….
Democrat operatives first, liberals second, not sure if journalist even fits any one in this group.
Uh, these guys were pundits, professors, think tankers, and advocacy journalists. No one has found a single journalist on here who didn't make their affiliations known publicly. So yeah, no big deal.
A failure to prosecute these people for criminal conduct will spell the end of journalism, yet I don't think they mind it. For our own sakes, we have to do what is in us to enforce the idea that nobody is above the law – including those who were supposed to protect us by sounding the alarm when one group or person acted in a way that harmed the interests of us all or had the potential to harm us all. The prosecution and imprisonment of the key players, the bankrupting of their personal fortunes, the destruction of the companies that funded them and provided them the means to continue the conspiracy are the absolute minimum price to be paid for disenfranchising 309 million Americans.
Bernie Madoff got life in prison for defrauding a few hundred investors out of $12 billion. Here we see millions hurt and trillions of dollars involved and the conspirators all gained personally from the conspiracy and have actively engaged to further its goals by covering it up. What punishment would be fair for this kind of criminality and this scale of harm?
I'll let others reply to WHATEVER it is you are trying to say.
…If its "no big deal", Twisted, why are you and a hundred other drooling Soros-trolls MONITORING the BigWorld sites TRYING to HIJACK the JournoList COMMENT threads ?….
….Answer: Because its a VERY BIG DEAL exposing the Lying Left Media for the COMMIE PROPAGANDISTS and RACE-BAITERS they are….
…..and YOU KNOW IT……and you are TWISTED about it…..sucks to be a Twisted Leftist, right, Kid ?….haha
Citizens of the world first, the USA second.
Perhaps someone from the Journolist would like to report on WHY the SEC allowed "material information" on an Oracle lawsuit to be released a dozen minutes before the market closed. The reason you are supposed to wait for the close to release THAT KIND of information is because the poor schmucks who are at work won't know about it before active traders do.
Check out the option activity today on Oracle. Insider trading? Insider dealing? Instead of covering pimple-faced weasels from the Journolist shouldn't we be investigating the DOJ and the SEC? Oh right! Now that the SEC is protected from 'full-disclosure' all they have to do to protect someone (Friends Of Rahm) is to start an investigation.
So now the DOJ is using investigations to protect their buddies? Sorry to those who got rail-roaded today in ORCL. Ouch. You deserve a better government than this.
Yeah, Kidtwist…keep that narrative going.
Funny…a couple of years ago, liberals were positively giddy – boasting all the time about the power and influence they had gained by virtue of their internet supremacy and dominance of the blogosphere.
And they had damn good reason to boast: Because of the financial backing of billionaire and millionaire lefties, they absolutely do put conservative web efforts to shame. In fundraising, opinion journalism, and use of social networking and sites such as YouTube to get their message across, conservatives are just now barely catching up.
In fact, probably better than half of the major stories breaking in the MSM for the past few years could trace their roots back to such internet sources.
Their heroes over at MSLSD – Keef, Rachel, Mika, Ed, and of couse Chrissy – all regularly credit Daily Kos and HuffPo.
But now…now that these weenies have been caught out coordinating the message and the news itself in the Journolist (and don't fool yourselves – that was just the tip of the iceberg) – NOW they want to explain this all away as a tempest in a teabag (pun intended).
Sure, guys – these people weren't real journalists – they wrote stuff on the internet, for god's sake!
The same internet you brag about dominating all the time.
Can't have it both ways, dears.
I put Twisty's gibberish into my magic decoder ring and out came more gibberish.
The phrase "discredited journOlister" should always precede the mention of these folks.
"You deserve a better government than this."
A lot of us intend to get one, starting in November.
"A failure to prosecute these people for criminal conduct will spell the end of journalism,"
Sorry, that little pony has already left the barn. It merely confirms the lock-step between the liberal State and MSM.
I missed the announcement during Obama's campaign that NYT, WaPo, NBC, CBS, etc. were part of the Obama campaign. Millions of Americans may have taken the fawning, softbball, free-pass coverage of his candidacy a little differently if they had known it was a coordinated effort to get him elected.
Propagandists before even paper boy.
Where are the "true to their profession" jounalist? Certainly not here.
….Lying Liberals are ashamed of America, and pretend to be Canadian when traveling overseas….
Ezra Klein is a subversive 'Leftist' with a barrel of ink. The barrel needs to be turned over his head, and this 'chump liar' needs to run out of town with his tail between his legs. ….
Run out of town sure, but not before the twit is rolled in feathers. Ink and feather the bums!!!
One would have to be the dumbest of the dumb not to have known this was propaganda. Oh yeah, Obama voters.
"Absent the alternative media on the Internet—these guys would never have been caught. They would have been able to maintain the charade that they are “working journalists” and quietly continued with their plots and schemes."
That's been exactly the case with the conversation that takes place every workday morning for seventeen years between Rham Emanuel, George Stephanopoulos, James Carville, and Paul Begala. We don't have tapes of their conversations, so we don't know what's discussed. No doubt they do their own plotting and scheming.

Now that this is in the open, the American people have the right and responsibility scoff at anything ever said or written by any of these operatives. In addition, any law school profs. who encouraged illegal practices should be fired. And any journalism profs. who encouraged unethical practices should also be fired. ALL the people involved misused their positions.
What kind of criminal conduct? This is America. We don't prosecute people (yet) for having political opinions with which we disagree. If we go down that path, we'll have the law used against us.
If the J-listers violated election law in some way, then that's a different story. Let's determine if there was criminal conduct before we start shouting for heads to roll.
There's certainly no excuse for the Journolisters, but I'm wondering when this brief halcyon time was that journalists were journalists first and partisan second. As a professional historian (one of my many hats) I've spent a good deal of time dredging through old newspapers and what we're seeing now is nothing compared to the vitriolic partisanship exhibited in newpapers ca. 1900. Back then you knew who owned your newspaper and you knew you'd better suck up early and often. The newspapers themselves were often the "Republican Rustler" (still in existence!) or the "Democrat and Chronicle" (ditto). Frankly, I'm thinking this notion of aloof non-partisanship in journalism is just part of the nonsense that journalists have been peddling ever since journalists were the town storytellers and gossips.
Exactly. Cronkite, Vietnam. Enough said.
They are not Journalists or Reporters. They make up crap, create polls to fit their narrative and then they regurgitate propaganda fed to them by the state.
I don't believe the Liberal MFM (mother fricking media) any more.
Pure BS Dipstick. How much does Moron.org pay you troll? Or is it Axelrod or Soros cutting you a check to sit in you mom's basement trolling sites and spouting leftist talking points.?
Um, Chuck? You do still work for NationalBarackChannel, correct? Trust me when I say this Chucky; No one has mistaken you for an unbiased journalist in a very, very long time… Wash down a couple Ambien with some Kool-aid and we’ll see you tomorrow.
Liberty… Freedom… WillNotEndWithMe.com
The fourth arm of politics (Media) has been hi-jacked by the progressives for the sole intent to control the message. You control the messenger, you control the message and you can make the truth whatever you want it to be. The explosion of sites like this has, for the moment, been able to ham-string this progressive powergrab. As a result we're seeing more and more progressive effort to control radio and the internet.
The difference between a progressive and a conservative? A conservative will argue with you – a progressive just wants to shut you up.
Nobody cares about this. It is not a story. The real story is that Breitbart is going to get sued for his racist smear against an innocent black lady.
It sounds like you are describing Breitbart and Fox!
Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach.
Anything or anyone starting to fit this definition?
In your dreams, no one cares. Maybe she can put some of the $13mil. she and her husband scammed from the taxpayer for losing their commune back into the system trying to stop Breitbart.
No, journalism comes third; they are retards first and foremost.
you reveal your ignorance with this remark. Breitbart posted a video of the woman speaking, nothing more. The reaction to it was totally driven by leftwing racist hysteria, such as you demonstrate with your comment.
Tarheels77, i hope that you are not a registered voter. you don't sound like someone who is acquainted with concepts such as logic or reason.
They are not journalists; they are prostituting propagandists.
" Today’s ‘Reporters’ Are Liberals First, Journalists Second."
I think you may have that succession a bit out of order and the absence of qualifiers defames the few remaining in that profession who still try to be objective.
It would be more accurate to say that " Today’s Agenda-Driven 'Progressive' ‘Reporters’ Are Liberals First, Liars Second, Slanderers Third, Libelers Fourth, Defamers Fifth, Cutpurses Sixth, Footpads Seventh, Leni Riefenstahl Fan Club Members Eighth, and Journalists Ninth."
A few modifiers are necessary to separate the vast horde of lying 'reporters' from those who still try to maintain their journalistic integrity.
When I was getting my sheepskin from the J-School at Mizzou, most of my fellow J-School students were there to "change the world," not learn how to research, interview, write and read. Heck, most of what I "learned" in journalism school proved useless on the job.
Waste of time and money except the fact that the degree opened doors.
Alas, I'm on these sites in the first place because I'm afflicted with a pathological need to read conservative sites. It's not fun, but I manage to live with it. No Soros checks here.
Anyway, one reason I'm not incensed by Journolist is that there's really no evidence of a conspiracy. A handful of (leftist advocacy) journalists said intemperate things, like that Fred Barnes should be called a racist, but I don't think anyone has been able to find evidence of Fred Barnes actually being called a racist. It seems to me that the only thing Journolist produced was an open letter.
Nope! I just don't like seeing the reputation of unbiased journalism impugned by people who mistake unbiased journalism with advocacy journalism of the sort practiced by Journolist members.
Good point. Here's the thing–at no point in the Journolist emails does someone say "Ok, here's today's talking points from Obama" or participate in a discussion with a member of the Obama campaign. It's hard to consider them members of the Obama campaign, then, and not just leftists working to achieve their goals.
The only journalists found on Journolist were those who already made their political affiliations known–opinion writers like Paul Krugman, or writers at liberal magazines like The Nation or The American Prospect. No one has been able to find an avowedly objective journalist like Chuck Todd, John Dickerson, or even Chris Matthews, on the list. As a result, it's hard to take seriously the claim that this exposes a massive conspiracy in the MSM.
Oh, you went to J-School? Bad news–you're an idiot. Real reporters don't need J-School and get their degrees in other disciplines.
You aren't just reading conservative sites. You comment and try to spin them towards your own agenda.
And I don't mind that. We all do that. What I mind is that you don't have substance in your comments. Journalism is about reporting facts. Informing the populace. 'Advocacy journalism' is an oxymoron. To advocate towards any position is editorializing. It's not reporting.
If the New York Times had advocacy on the editorial page and still had quality reporting on the rest of the paper they would not be printing from the cheapest back alley they can find (I know, they are still in the building they used to own, so far).
But those talking points, they aren't factual.
The 'jobless recovery' means 'I'm doing fine, you're still unemployed'.
The 'green economy' means 'you can't get gas and won't have energy to heat your house'.
The 'green jobs' he promises has been tried in spain, it ruined them. They have the highest unemployment in Europe. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/arti...
If the talking points were accurate, there wouldn't be this resistance to the liberal cool aid.
So, you must support Breitbart who simply posted a video of someone in their own words looking stupid?
And a video of the audience enjoying her stupidity?
You can hear the boots as the goose stepping soldiers march past.
Probably visiting Dan Rather in his assisted living facility.
No, we use facts.
You haven't shown where Fox or Breitbart has been less than accurate.
You just say it's not. Empty words from an empty person.
Facts are not your friends.
Innocent of what? We can clearly see she's a race baiter and a struggling bigot. That may be better than her husband, but still not the character that public employees should have.
So, what is she innocent of exactly?
Why would you deny anyone an education?
Are you afraid he has the wrong skin color or something?
Hey, Kidtwist88 – you know where you can stick your offensive comment, jackass. I happened to have gotten a second bachelor's at the same time in American history. And I entered the J-school when I was an idiot liberal.
So do yourself a favor and STFU about people you don't know.
